That red-robed demoness in the Inner Landscape that is being depicted as a major antagonist? All of that gets brushed away and she becomes a friend later on without much ado. Hell, she turns out to be a sort of half-sister to the MC.

It turns out that her parents were living with the bodies of MC's parents as part of a symbiotic deal, so MC actually had four parents in total. There are many girls who orbit MC, but he ends up with Goddess Zhao (that beautiful classmate he meets during the graduation reunion).

By the time I got bored of the novel, some super expert essentially robbed MC of his cultivation and treasures, causing him to drop back down to square one. Before that, he had reached the 12th stage, which no one else had achieved in history.

Did I forget to mention that the immortal realm is decaying across the universe? Yes, that same immortal realm that every cultivator goes to when they ascend to a higher realm.

Because of that, every immortal is desperate to escape the immortal realm and descend back into the physical universe. When the immortal realm decays into nothingness, every immortal in that higher realm will die along with it, so they're all trying to get the hell out.

The death of the immortal realm also means that anything related to the supernatural will eventually become mortal and mundane. Everyone will lose their cultivation, and it will become impossible to even cultivate.

Around where I stopped reading, the immortal realm finally collapsed. The immortals that escaped are now roaming the universe, but their cultivation bases are slowly disappearing, and it will not be long before they all become normal people with mortal lifespans. Some immortals have left on a journey to escape the universe and find somewhere they can cultivate again.

MC decided to stay on Earth, settle down, and marry Goddess Zhao. He's also trying to find a way to start cultivating again and maybe restart the immortal realm/supernatural era. That's roughly 40 chapters into the second half of the story.
