“I can’t accept this! I can’t! Even as a ghost, I’m going to spend eternity cursing that your relationship will shatter like glass! Break apart like a pair of mandarin ducks that fly away from each other!” With such a persisting obsession, it would be difficult for the vengeful departed spirit to move on.

Ji Man had only read a light novel to pass the time, but she was unexpectedly pulled into a very strange dream. She had become the novel’s most vicious villainess.

The novel rewinds to the beginning. The villainess who had been ordered to commit su*cide reappears on stage and begins to follow the plot as she walks toward the novel’s ending once again, to a courtyard deep inside the marquis’ residence. A female lead that’s like the Holy Mother. Countless cannon fodders. The imperial family’s favor…

I have so much stiffled feelings while reading this. This story was definitely a rage inducing. Ugh, my resentment towards the ML never dissipate. The story was good but..... I'm just so angry from the ML conducts that I can't even bear to give this 5 stars

This novel was LONG but so very good. Its development is slow and goes through a ton of ups and downs.

This is HE. The last 30ish chapters were extras and 1 of them was not so HE depending on how you take it, but overall the extras wrapped up the novel really well.

WHOA 500+ chapters!

So good! I read this because I like the translator's style. I was originally reading chongfei manual, and boy o boy, I prefer DSB so, so much.

As a woman, this novel hits hard because the FL & ML are NOT OP. They stumble & fail & was repressed & schemed against. No easy breezy romance, no easy breezy birth, even the romance is evolving. It's super refreshing to read the translator's notes at the end too. I wish the author best of luck (she mentioned it will be... more>> published), I wish fuyuneko the best too (constantly reading & translating, even if she received monetary support, is still hard). <<less

I think this was my first historical romance. Loved Ji-man at the beginning, but in the middle and end there are lots of deviation from the character in my opinion. The only steady one was Moyu who is a scum through and through. But well have to give him pointers for steadfastness. Felt really really really sad for Sangyu. She was really young with no guidance. I really wish to know if she had a happy ending in her journey.

It's a nice story for me. I've read it long ago and just come back to make reviews. It may not be your cup of tea if your looking for some ML that immediately dotes on the MC out of nowhere. Before reading, take note that the setting is set on ancient china so the author makes the characters act as closely as such. The ML comes of as bad in the beginning from the modern way of thinking with his harem and behaviors but he gradually changes. From what... more>> I can remember, the MC is not some mary sue. All of the characters were not flawless. They have flaws making this story realistic. <<less

It was a whirlwind of a book, unlike anything i've read so far. ML is sh*t and the FL still loves him but it's not annoying that she does, just s*upid. Sometimes we can't help but fall in love to the people who hurt us.

I haven't binge read for a while and this novel has been a interesting read for me.

It has very deep and a complex structure that all the characters in the story has their own purpose and naturally indicates the plot and slowly reveals the characters sides through favorable situations to adversity. I like the fact that it doesn't always focus on the MC and ML romance but also shows other characters perceptive and love. Bearing in mind that some love can be sweet like a fairy tail, some are merely... more>> but a attraction, some doesn't understand and appreciate because they were blind by power and ego. Understanding that not all love stories have a happy ending does give a bitter sweet taste.

This is a slow burn romance which I actually prefer. For the MC and ML they spend time to figure out each other and started to learn how to trust and respect each other. They do lie and to deceive each other at some point (mostly the ML) but isn't forgiving and redemption one another also love?
Spoiler

I do enjoy the MC personality; she's intelligent, reasonable, pretty funny, has a high emotion intelligence and has a fundamental understand of human nature. As the plot progress, she does have to change, she can't be soft to her enemies and so she choose to be harsh on others and herself. Although she has can grasp other peoples emotions/love she isn't very honest with her. Near the end of the story she finally found how precious this world is to her and how limited her time can be.

At first I did hate the ML but over time I understood the reason for his actions. His action can be unforgivable and can easily harm other but logically speaking this would probably the best that he could do at this current situation to protect the ML life and people important to him from his foes. Even when I was thinking how the ML could this be avoid or do things better, I couldn't think of a better alternative because if he wasn't sly and cruel, 9/10 he would have been controlled, killed and lost his love ones maybe.

Overall, I do recommend this. A big thanks to fuyuneko (translator) and author. <<less

Regarding the translation quality, it is quite good, definitely better than almost all other fan translations, however, some phrases translated verbatim from Chinese mean nothing to an English reader, I don't mind the usage, but a note on the meaning, at least for the first time would be nice. Phrases like "peach eyes" or "full moon eyes". I do appreciate the images of unknown terms the translator added sometimes. Anyway, good job overall.

Minor spoiler about the framing story:

This is supposedly not a transmigration story, but all a dream or a delusion of the main character, which makes it sad. Supposedly, when she dies of old age in the dream, she will wake up, only a bit older than at the start only to again realize everything was a dream.

[collapse]

Except for that "twist ending", this starts well, but the later half is actually quite poor if you think about it. Major spoilers from here on :

Spoiler

1. The greatest twist in the story, that causes her family to be executed, occurs mostly off screen for the dumbest reason. Why did she keep the book keeping records for her illegal business ? For the tax inspection ? Ridiculous. She also pointlessly used the illegal money in her role as a matron, which is begging to be discovered. She was supposed to be hyper intelligent.

2. The main MC often doesn't hit back when someone tries to kill her, even though she can, which predictably leads to serious problems later on. Shes does this multiple times and doesn't learn, which is annoying.

3. The story with their son is just bizarre. I'm supposed to think it is a good thing the monk abducted their child ? If a doctor saves your life he owns you now ? And they never thought to visit ?
The extra with the child, now a teenager, only makes things weirder.

I had other qualms, but I forgot already. <<less

and Chong fei manual are the best ancient Chinese novels that I have read. This one is pretty realistic a ML who sees women just like dolls who can not think by themselves, and think that every woman in his harem are his. He does not need to explain his action because he is the leader of his family. So I understand some comments of why he is such an a**hole. [Reason why I love how he starts to accept ji man help and to respect her, plus to gain her back he really has to coax her]

[collapse]

The MC is a normal girl, no op who thinks that by making him fall in love with her she will get back to her world. So, the interactions between the two is pretty fun

In general I really enjoyed the novel, lots of drama at some points but at the end it was worth it. LotsGLots of interactions between the main characters. I like how he did not fall in love just because she was behaving different, and how

thet villains actually think and are somewhat unexpected at some points. Lots of character development for both MC. At the end I really came to like the ML specially when his point of view is explained and how ji man teaches him.

Great translation like the rest of fuyonekos work. <<less

This story gives me heartache, hatred, forgiveness, love a lot of s*upidity emotions ahahaha that I can't explain

I thought I wont like this story but in the end I cant stop myself clicking for nxt chapters As I was intrigue of what would/will happen nxt in the story line.

In every chapter that I read I wanted to mu*der the ML cuz of his jerk personality. But in the end I understand why his character like that. He's full of scheming in order to save the marquis/ning residence or let... more>> us say He's people.

While the original Villain of the story nie sangyu her character was really s*upid but we can't do anything she was just in love. They said loving someone make the other person foolish. She is also not clever. Thanks to OuR FL SHE IS MUCH BETTER THAT THE ORGINAL SANGYU.

I laughed alot in the chapter that the Original FL suggest something and was objected by FL/sangyu and gave an example saying it was a s*upid suggestion.

I dont like the personality of the Original Fl/wen wan she was so mary sue. Feeling that she was the perfect wife an innocent gurl that dont know how to scheme. GHAAD she's getting in my nerves really want to slap her.

Overall the auther gave the character A satisfied personality base on the storyline.

THANK U SO MUCH TRANSLATOR FUYUNEKO TEAM FOR TRANSLATING THIS GOOD NOVEL. <<less

This book is my favourite book up until this moment. Yess the ML is a dumbass but you will se him change as the story progress. This story doesn't really revolve around romance and could be considered "realistic" enough for a transmigration style novel. Neither the ML or the MC is almighty that could predict and stand againts all enemy. Overall a really good book to read

I just started reading this novel and I swear, if she falls in love with the Marquis and be swayed..... I'm going to be so mad, so mad that I'll reincarnate in the novel and change the whole ending to its rightfully ending.

Recommend to those who can tolerate being forced to eating sh*t spoon by spoon OR an open mind people I guess.

(edit) Everyone has flaws, even my beloved MC. It's a fun story then I feel frustrated but at the end of story I love it.

MC is super duper loveable, I don't get how could she ends up with that piece of sh*t

Spoiler

I get that it's an ancient time setting but the mindset of ML is ?

At this point I still don't know how thing will turns out, women's life in this story is too sad. NYX deserves to live his life full of harem but never be loved. Love is meaning less to him Unless HE FEELS HAPPY. I guess if original NSY didn't love him to the point making him lose face in public she might living as the first wife just fine. Too bad her love got blacken and forced JM from another world to experience her shitty life.

JM is goddess, she makes me keep reading this shit. She sees everything that happened as the play and still try to find her way home at this point.

Translator did wonderful job for sure, spoiling, hinting and try to persuade readers that ML is redeemable is soooo cute, I like it ?

Also super glad there is a comment section, it is fun reading that people feel the same way about that scum. It kind of stress relief ??

The story is 4/5 5/5 (but I give 5 cause the reason author can make me feel the feels this much must be talented talented author combined with skill translator, what's more could I ask for ❤️

Translation quality is 10/5

Read it at your own risk, beware the ML is kinda ?

08/02/2020

Whew, I'm glad I started reading this story when the translator already completed the project, so I didn't drop it halfway

The story look like it devided into 3 parts

Spoiler

The first part of the novel are when I love MC and hate ML. JiMan just started her dream. By possessing s*upid girl who know nothing but love.

ML is a man with power and big responsibility for 21 years old person. He's the schemer who born in the Era where a man can have 3 wives 4 concubines and many more bed servants as long as the man can effort the expense

So the start of hate men trope begin?

For the 2nd part. I started to dislike MC action but it makes me start to understand why ML did what he did

I still don't get why she choose 1st prince side. All the mess she made after side with him. She shows how much she capable of in front of a prince who not willing to trust anyone ? of course the consequences are happened as I expected ?

And the final part is when MC woke up but she can't stand the reality of her dull life, she's reading the novel in work hours, of course the boss was angry but she still frustrated by her inner thoughts and her boss fired her then whooop trippin and TADA back to the novel ?‍♂️this is where I feel MC might not dream, she might lose her mind and the sign where she insisted on keeping the dreaming is obvious.

And everything in the dream resolved in a good way for everyone, except the emperor clan I guess? the fated of Zhao is so funny

[collapse]

The extra chapters are happy and sad at the same time?

Spoiler

HaoHao is the victim of this story, so I'm OK if he choose to be a monk. The common life in this novel is a mess. If a girl falls in love with a man on her own, I don't know why a man have to be responsible for the girl feelings ? if it was a modern world the girl will be called sasang/madfan I guess.

And also because I'm Buddhist, I felt super uncomfortable when that little girl try to persuade HaoHao to not be a monk. The tribulation from this action is heavy you know ?

[collapse]

Anyway the auther just say that all of 500 chapters are like the MC singing "I close my eyes and I can see the world that's waiting up for me, that I call my own... " ?

I hope when she finally wakes up, she will be willing to stay awake though. <<less

Translation: 4.5/5

Plot:5/5

Characters: 5/5

... more>> Existential Crisis: it was all a dream

This is a setup that appeals to me. MC transmigrates as the secondary villain fated to die, but she's practical and clever and improves on the hand she's dealt. She's not ridiculously OP, suffers set backs, makes mistakes, but she learns from them. ML is a d*ck for most of the beginning and middle, but it turns out he's kinda tsundere and stuck in his time period's thought space, but once MC forces him to question his previous behavior, he learns from them. This walked the edge between believable logic, dramatic development, and CP dog food for me. Somewhat puzzled at the ending notes for their oldest child, still within the bounds of the realism of the story I suppose. Anyhow, good read, laughed and sympathized. <<less

This novel is very good. The translation is smooth and very enjoyable. I love to read romance that kinda not realistic and fluffy. But this novel really not that. The portrayal of the ML and MC are really realistic (when you read about all the males in this story, you will really hate them and will eventually says “humps men! They are pigs!” Lol. But it’s also accurate in those time, it’s very normal, and women just don’t have any place in society others than getting married and having... more>> babies and stay quite. So they tend to become psycho in their inner courtyard to obtain “love” from a man. This novel worth the read but be warn the 1st large part of the story will have you cried injustice and wanna kill all those heartless guy. But the reality part most of the cultivation of marriage or to ‘cleaver’ way to obtain affection and good marriage is also true. I love MC character, so realistic in the way of dealing with all these emotion and see the the big picture. (The only life line that keep me cheering for her and kick ML from his high horse) There is a bit of twist at the very end but it’s all depends of how the public interpret form it. Thanks Fuyuneko san for the great translation and notes with details and all those wonderful discussions. Thank you <<less

So, I started reading this afraid of the quantity of chapters. It brought me flashbacks of god awfully long novels that insist in putting some unnecessary plots instead of ending it all cleanly but The Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir surprised me by keeping me interested for 95% of the novel.

Yes, sometimes I just wanted to get to the good stuff but the story has surprisingly a good amount of small details that make it all the more greater. The commentary of the translator also enriched the reading experience by... more>> a lot. And the final 40 or so chapters are all additional stories of side characters.

This novel is down to earth in a way that most aren’t and sometimes I just wanted to stop and go to the happy ending. But like our life, it’s the walk that makes the view worth it.

I do recommend it, but I recommend you to start reading it when you have plenty of time for it. I spent the last two days going to sleep at 3am because I couldn’t put it down! <<less

Love this. It is so different from other transmigration genre. I thought it was a transmigration but the end note from the author was it was a dream after all. The storyline was so beautifully built up. The heartache I had with this story was the ending of the MC eldest son, Haohao. The marquis (ML) was so gullible as to believe the son was the dark Star to the MC and he basically allow the monk to take the son away until his teenage year.
