Looking at the chapter titles, of the 33 chapters as of this writing only 14 are from the MC's point of View there are 14 for her, 5 from the perspective of one of the royal Magicians (who seems to be one who started the abuse or pushing all the work on to her, but MTL so I could have misread that line) and 14 are from the perspective of the idiot minister who fired her. Is she really the MC is there are more chapters of her oppressors dealing... more>> with her absence??? Hopefully it corrects over time. Though a lot of the time I am more interested in how the dismissing party goes to hell, so there is more of that for me here.

As to the firing it is because a noble told the minister she was not doing any work, seriously he took the other idiot noble at his word and fired her (which apparently includes her savings account being seized so not money for that massive overwork, she leaves the caste with enough money in her pocket for passage to her home town or a meal, but not both, and has not had a proper meal in a while due to her over work so starving (I think it said 6 hr) carriage ride it is for her, I can agree with her not wanting to go back
Spoiler

even if she did not have issues that built up due to the massive overwork

[collapse]
.

The bad part of this is that the start is entirely to believable once nepotism, pride and entitlement get added in. Pride causing the nobles to not like a commoner getting a job that was exclusively theirs causing abuse, and that abuse including people pushing all the work on to her so they could skip off work, and slandering her or based on one comment possibly blame her for their mess ups. Then the higher ups taking the slander as the truth even though if they looked into it there is considerable evidence that she is the only one doing any work, and they were braking the rule she was fired for. There are just to many executives out there who have no clue what is really going on at the lower levels, even when it is their job to know.

I do not know about the king, or how the people since she the description says she was known for getting the job, react to all this, but so far I am not impressed with the nobles seen so far.

Once the MC gets home, her parents are supportive, so good parents there.

Also she meets up with a child hood friend who now works as an adventurer (possible ML???)

As of ch 9 she still has not decided on a new career, but did go on a quest with her adventurer friend for some pocket money, since hers was effectively stolen. <<less

MC is the ultimate pushover. How much you wonder? The pushover-iest. So much of a pushover that a gentle breeze might topple her. Though I wonder if I should be calling her the MC seeing as there were more chapters from the incompetent minister's POV than hers...

All in all, this was a terrible novel. The synopsis wasn't bad and could have made for a good plot, but the author made most of the characters' personalities incomprehensibly 1 dimensional and had to dumb them down to a fatal level (seriously, how... more>> do they even breathe without help?) to force the nonsense plot along. No one seems to do their job well in this fictional royal world, and the king is observing everything like an awful chess player waiting for others to read his mind and make the move he wants. It's outrageous how s*upid and incompetent everyone seems to be- an entire group of people leave the royal castle during work daily yet no one who supervises them ever finds out for 8 years? In the real world, that gossip would have been passed on within a week! So, does the author think the readers are s*upid? Or are their characters just s*upid?

Let's circle back to the MC (temporary)... what can I say about her? Her character makes very little sense to me to be frank. She's submissive to an incomprehensible extent, especially taking into account her upbringing. She's an only child who was clearly raised lovingly by her parents, good at magic, and became a royal mage as an adult (I'm assuming since they never explicitly mentioned her being a kid or child labor or anything). Add to that, as the only commoner among the royal mages, she was certainly the most powerful in her group or she wouldn't have been chosen. So, pray tell, why does a grown woman with strength, talent, and wasn't raised to be lacking self-confidence allow herself to be literally abused by the incompetent idiots around her? And she stays for 8 years until literally forced to leave and getting her money stolen with the excuse that she's 'stubborn in odd ways'. No honey, you're either a masochist or a moron, not stubborn. Instead she commits herself to unnecessary suffering while waiting for someone to come and save her. Even after she leaves, she still can't seem to solve any problems on her own and needs someone to rescue her from any and everything.

Even worse, she has that holy mother/white lotus mentality where she's sorry for everyone who gets a b**boo, even if that person nearly killed her a moment ago. And you bullying her for 8 years will magically be forgotten with a simple "sowwy" and she'll overflow with gratitude the moment you decide to give her only a portion of what she's earned.

Clearly I've got a lot of feelings lol. I just don't find anything about this novel redeeming. The characters suck; the plot is illogical and gives detail unnecessary places while skipping over any possibility of sensible plot development; the author never picks whether to focus on revenge or a coup and just ends up failing massively at both. I could write my own 40 chapter essay about how this 40 chapter story managed to show even less plot/character development than a oneshot. Really the only thing I liked about this novel was the length- at least it was over quicker. I guess I'm also 'stubborn in odd ways' seeing as I continued to read a story that annoyed me with every chapter just hoping it would get better (it didn't). <<less

Despite supposedly being the best and only competent magician, the MC is nothing but a damsel in distress, both in body and mind. It's painful to read. Any satisfying revenge is completely doused by the brainless inaction of the MC. And she even thanks her enemies for doing the bare minimum to make it up to her. I get that she's supposedly been overworked for years and has a docile personality, but this certainly doesn't fit a story like this. It's like switching between Snow White and the villains perspective... more>> in an abuse story. Most of the current translation isn't even from the MCs perspective so we just see a Mary Sue type being all white lotus-y and making all the guys go "wow omg she's so nice gotta protect her blah blah". Actually, the long title of this novel should be "Oh no I Accidentally Fired the Royal Magician and Now the Country is Facing a Crisis Because I'm a Colossal Idiot" Because the majority has been revenge p*rn from the minister's perspective. <<less

The 3 stars is for the first 20 chapters about 1 star for the last 20.

This story seems to be aimed at the overworked underappreciated Japanese salaryman, especially those working at black companies. It's a little bit of a cross between a revenge fantasy, a vindication fantasy, with a retire in wealth as a topping.

It's nothing great and the themes are incredibly overused. The writing was less than interesting.

Bottom line: Skip

This is what would happen in "The Villainous Duke" had it not been for the ever capable Prime Minister being the hero and stopping the people from misunderstanding the duke. Back to the topic, I hope more hell happens at the royal capital while MC is living her happy life back with her family and people who loves her.

The translations was decent, but that was all I could say about this story. It wasn't really interesting at all. The premise would've been much better if it focused on either the protagonist or the fallout of her dismissal rather than try and split its attention on both. Not to mention, a good chunk of the story is told from the minister's perspective mid way into the story which just recaps the beginning of the story.

Frankly, this story tried to do 3-4 things at once and naturally failed as a... more>> result. <<less

Only five chapters are out at this point b it the story has great potential so I thought I would give a short review/synopsis.

First off, there are multiple POVs including the idiots that forced all their work on her. Now this might frustrate some people but I personally enjoyed seeing the chaos her dismissal left.

So far, the MC has been dismissed bc her coworkers continued and baseless slander combined with her commoner status left her with little respect.

so the MC who has been serving as a scr*pe goat and carrying... more>> a large portion of the workload leaves to go to her hometown and it doesn’t take long for things to go south.

I look forward to seeing what she does now that she’s back home and I hope she goes off adventuring with her childhood friend!

this is a very basic story but has potential and if you can handle that... give it a try! <<less

Someone pointed out that they're upset because there is less story about the protagonist and more about what happened to the trainwreck she left behind, but honestly...

The appeal of this novel to me is the complete opposite. I honestly CANNOT care about the protagonist at all. It was much more interesting seeing the lives of everyone else trying to fix the problems they caused and failing.

The protagonist is so boring, passive, and just gets dragged by the events around her. The story at her hometown is basically either completely boring,... more>> or her getting abused by people who visited and her doing NOTHING about it. The issues gets res0lved by everyone else around her.

Why is the other character's story more interesting? Simple, because it's more interesting for someone to move the story along with their actions instead of getting dragged along by events. Even if it was a villain, if they're the ones moving the story by commiting their evil acts, then it's still more interesting to read than a protagonist who does absolutely nothing.

A passive protagonist isn't a story. It's a fictional documentary.

Just change the protagonist to the prime minister who messed up. It's super interesting seeing him deal with the consequences of what happened, investigating different personnel, and trying to fix the problem and aftermath.

The girl? Oh her life can be summed up in a simple sentence or two. "She lived happily ever after. The End." <<less

Do not be fooled by the title. You think this is a story of magician wrongly dismissed and finding happiness with her childhood friend after being treated like a s*ave? Wrong! This novel is all about the prime minister who was exposed to the corruption growing in the castle and having the wool removed from his eyes! This is his story for redemption, soul searching, and his reformation of the country born of sacrifice! Who cares about some damsel who's living the dream life! The real gem is the prime... more>> minister *kisses fingers like an Italian praising pasta* now that's character development. <<less

At the time of writing this I've only read the beginning but I can already say that the title is very misleading. The main character isn't selfish and she's not a pushover. If anything, the only thing she is at fault for is being stubborn and not quiting before hand. That being said, the "crisis" as mentioned in the title seems to be entirely self inflicted because of a group of nobles and the FL not saving everyone even though she can is less to do with her not "caring"... more>> and more to do with her being traumatized by a brutal workplace.

As for the rest of the plot, there seems to be some promise of conflict with a neighboring country, but that's all speculation at the moment. It's intriguing enough to continue for the moment and not everyone was made out to be a villain at her previous workplace. At worst, some of them were ignorant, which isn't excusable but at least they seem to reprimand the idiots who abused the fl. <<less

I want to like this story, I really do. The translation is well done and the story is entertaining. My issue though is the chapter length. It’s extremely short, like if printed it’d only be a page front and back, max two pages. I didn’t notice it so much at first since when I found this, it had 12 chapters. It was after that, that this story has been slowly grinding me down. I’m excited for new chapters, but I’m let down every time. You get to read a sliver... more>> of what you want to read. Imagine someone giving you your favorite food and after you take one bite, it’s taken away. I suggest letting this one sit in your list and once it has a lot of chapters, then read it. <<less

hmm, I think the story is interesting, and could have had promise. However, half the story is about other characters and the MC does nothing interesting. Merely reacting to what happens around her.

the minister story line is quite OK though. The story would have been more interesting if it was primarily from the ministers point of view (like 40% of the current story)

truthfully its more of a story about the collapse of nobility/royalty than anything else. (Politics)

its a short read, might be a fun filler if your bored.

This story is so all over the place. It was supposed to be centered on MC but somehow, MC barely appeared in this story. The premise was actually quite promising but it was badly executed.

MC also wasn't that likeable. It was mentioned that she was a talented magician but she didn't have any worthy achievement other than being overworked by her colleagues. Her problem also mainly solved by other people (she barely lifted any hand and then all was well). So, after reading this story, I could understand why this... more>> story got low rating. <<less

The title and description promises a story of karma, but that doesn't last long. Sure, some of the shitty people got what they deserved - but that's just a small part of this.

Ultimately, the bulk of this just turns into a rather bland story about various people leaving their country when things start to fall apart due to poor governance.

There's really nothing exciting to see here.
