One day, Li Yu transmigrated into a fish. Furthermore, this fish even had a master. This master was the sinister and terrifying, mute tyrant from a novel. The system gave Li Yu a task. If he wanted to change back into a human, he had to obtain the tyrant’s heart.

Li Yu full of tears: System, please wake up. I’m only a fish. He can’t even speak. How can we interact?

System: Stop jabbering. To take down the tyrant, you must attack his heart.

Li Yu: Can I ask, does the tyrant have a heart–

Li Yu did his best to blow bubbles at the tyrant, but ended up being captured by the tyrant and raised carefully in a huge, ginormous…… fish tank. The life of a fish was filled with all sorts of blessings.

Everyday, Mu Tianchi watched the little carp swim around happily, pondering when this fish would finally transform into a human.

The little carp didn’t know. It’s not that the tyrant had no heart, it’s just that he already gave it away to the little carp that accidentally saved his life.

First Impression

MC gets reborn as fish. I don't know who wouldn't want to read this crack.

The Plot

Alright, so I came into the story expecting it to have a very simple plot, with most of it being fluff and humor. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is some court politics involved. In fact the court politics go hand in hand with the romance and relationship development of our odd couple, and even after they got together the author managed to write in a few more interesting plotlines before ending... more>> it.

The MC

I love scheming protagonists, and this one truly have pulled off some insane stunts (especially when he's in fish form), but MC can also be quite childish and impulsive, particularly during the mpreg arc.. Felt like his character derailed from there, and became less consistent.

The ML

Checks off the desirable traits of a typical danmei gong. No complaints about him. His muteness actually adds to his character; people around him would make assumptions about him because of his silence and it's hilarious.

The CP

There is a lack of chemistry, however can't deny that they're both devoted to each other and would do whatever it takes to protect the other. ML is especially very patient and gentle with MC, since it took some time for the MC to come to terms with his feelings. Once they're both commited though, it's just a constant honeymoon phase until the end.

Others

Spoiler

The baos!!! This is the first danmei where I got seriously attached to the kids. Their antics are so funny and adorable, and I love how effortlessly they managed to charm everyone, especially the Emperor lmao

This is the most bizarre thing I have ever read, and strangely, I enjoyed it. I anticipated that there would be more drama, but actually, it was a nice read without excessive drama. I guess because of 2ha, I have PTSD. Every time I see some kind of animal name in the title of the novel, I think it should be full of dog blood. But this one was full of love and cuteness. At the end, it became more tense, but all in all, it is a light read.... more>> Actually, I think the title is missing something, for example the word pampered. The tyrant spoils the fish unprecedentedly; the whole novel is about how the tyrant is protecting and spoiling him.

The first part of the novel was really funny.
Spoiler

Most of the scenes are about fish and the tasks he must complete. The system issues the tasks; actually, they aren't hard; they are just a bit vague, and the host often interprets them wrongly and goes a bit too far.

[collapse]
The main point of the story was Fish and his masters daily lives and their interactions. In the later half of the novel, there were more dog-blood scenes. More and more dangerous and interesting situations arose. All these scenes were written very lightly and weren't dragged out, so instead of being scared or worried for the protagonist, I rather enjoyed reading them and was interested in how the tyrant and fish would deal with all of that.

I loved both MC and ML. MC is only 18 years old, and he is full of contradictions. Sometimes he is clever, but at the same time, he makes careless mistakes and is a bit emotional. I wouldn't say that he is super smart, but he has a kind heart, always makes useful suggestions, and tries to make the lives of other people better. But what I like most about him is that he knows about his own shortcomings and has good self-awareness. He's only 18 but still thinks deeply about relationships.
Spoiler

Yes, he truly likes ML, but now he is in ancient times. He acknowledges the fact that in modern times and in ancient times, views about relationships drastically differ. He knows that he needs to think things through; the consequences of breaking up for him will be terrible. He also can't stand the idea that he can only be a concubine or that his loved one will have others. He knows that relationship with ML will be dangerous but still is willing to risk his safety for love. His decision wasn't impulsive. I really liked how well this part was written. It made me think once again how horrible it would be for women to live in those times, when they had no voice and were used as tools.

[collapse]

I love ML too. His character is very interesting.
Spoiler

He is mute That truly affected his personality.

[collapse]
Because of his disability, ML was bullied and ignored. He is so clever and capable, but his talents were wasted because people are prejudiced against people with disabilities. His problems didn't affect his capabilities, so ignoring him was a huge mistake. He could do so many great deeds. But he himself never felt angry or hateful. I like that he is so level-headed and clear-headed.

The novel is set in ancient times, but still, there are problems that I think are relevant today too. The author didn't point it out directly, but how society treats people with disabilities or problems that women face today was mentioned so cleverly that I loved it. It is definitely light reading, but many important topics were covered.

I also loved that there were many cute babies. I have a soft spot for children, so reading about sweet little creatures made me immediately forget parts of the novel I didn't like or had some misgivings. All in all, this novel is well-written; there are many sweet and funny moments; the plot is simple but still interesting; it has nice flow, good characters, a few unexpected plot twists, and enough intrigue to make it gripping but not too heavy to read. How the MC transmigrated was pretty unique too so I think it is a good read and would recommend. <<less

It was so good I cried. I am happy that there is an equality in the relationship and the ML maybe capable but he's not like the other MLs in danmei where there're so overly perfect, I can't help but roll my eyes so hard. The MC is kinda s*upid and obvious that I sometimes facepalm but the author manage to turn it out surprisingly endearing.... MC is also kind and is not misogynistic. What's more? He's not hypocrite.

Ehhhh the babies are so cute I cannnnnnnot.

I would have rated it 3.5 but 4 for the little cuties >.< >.<

I wonder how obsessed the the author is with fish to write such a story lol. I think it was her long lost childhood dream to be a fish :'D

Anyway, it is a fun read. Although I think the palace drama is not that deep, it is something I prefer. At first it was kinda s*upid fights over trivial things between princes but it got much better later on. Sometimes I think it is illogical how trivial... more>> matters can escalate like that but in history there was even more whimsical nobels.

A big reminder is that it IS NOT a yaoi as mentioned I. The genre. There are a lot of smut that really is not smut. All are cut and mentioned in a roundabout way which don't make you have that Doki Doki feeling haha

The ending is quite satisfying for me <3 <3

The MC is not passive at all but quite active which is to my liking. The ML also don't treat him as a kept boyfriend but gives him authority and power.

the story telling is a bit lacking for me. it always feels like something is missing and abrupt or not quite fleshed out. But it is full of events, entertaining and have alot of humor.

My favorite in the story are the

Spoiler

quadruplets. I always wanted a novel with triplets but here is even more lol. I love to read their part of story alot, it is both funny and cute. One of the things I don't like is how early they started studying... although it is only the elder that we can call studied lol

This story is absolutely delightful, my day is instantly better as soon as I see that there's a new chapter up.

It's both well written and well translated, the pacing is great and the story is fun and super fluffy with well written, lovable characters. I love how the MC has come to really embrace his identity as a fish, and look forward to seeing more of the doting MLs tyrant side.

Highly recommend!

A classic case where the only reason MC is "smart" and not a halfwit is because everyone else are quarterwits blinded their emotions and the Gary Stu halo.

To be fair, if you're looking for a fluffy piece, this work is super wholesome and cute. I also very much enjoyed the cute diebetically sweet relationship between the MC and ML and their adorable babies (who are a little too convinient for the "plot" but I can overlook it).

The problem is when the fluff is no longer huge and blinding and center... more>> stage and they attempted to shift focus more onto the palace intrigue genre. Which means the gaping plotholes of how s*upid all the characters are is now shoved in your face instead of hiding halfway off the stage where you can selectively ignore. I'm a huge fan of intrigue and honestly it just turns me off of the entire novel even though I'm so close to the end.

TL;DR. If palace intrigue is not your cup of tea and you're only looking for a fluff piece, this is the one for you. Otherwise, it's very disappointing in the later half. <<less

I find myself struggling between a love and hate relationship for this novel.

My issues were:
- Immature, downright s*upid, lazy Gary Stue MC (only strong points are the knowledge of the OG plotline, the system and favour of the main protagonist including the protagonists' halo.
He leaves most of the work to the ML. There are missions where he's allowed to earn some brownie points, but those are menial tasks, fail safe and idiot proof.)

Spoiler

s*upid as in: being naïve to the point of you can openly call him s*upid.
Lazy; to the point that he doesn't want to lift a single finger after marriage (not that it was any different prior). All the paper works and management of the household is still the ML's burden.

Of course, that is one of the many ways for ML to pamper his fish wife but for the love of god, be a little more responsible, will you? He takes over as a playmate for his own children and a moral compass navigator, menial work is still mostly left to a nanny. He also constantly feeds his kids tr*sh, most of the time it's candy and snacks, no wonder they're all overweight.
t's also become quite an annoyance that whoever lays eyes on MC will adore and love him within seconds.

Besides just plain ass laziness, he's slacking in the matter of his missions as well. The rewards sometimes are a big help to save the ML and he just tosses it aside. (Referring to the visions he could see, the third time he received that reward, he just tossed it to the back of his mind.) This is also one of the biggest reasons why you could claim he's taking his ML for granted.
The Mpreg in this one is also problematic and wishy-washy. He's able to push out babies in his sleep but when it comes to normal pregnancy it became a huge "sacrifice" (-realizing what a huge sacrifice this was- a literal quote from the story). It feels like a mockery to all women especially because he desperately wanted to get pregnant (but the easy way, he knows and sympathizes with women who have to go through it, but hell, if you want children that bad, be at least prepared for some work).

He'd also have long monologues about moral rights and wrongs that contradict each other where some are obv. biased (for example he'd say a lot in favour for women's rights but when it comes to a poor princess that lost her home country and who was forced to marry the enemy as a concubine, he becomes extremely apathetic.

Not saying he should forgive her but at least understand...), it's a mess. He's condescendingly judging left and right like as if he in his position and life experience is the one to talk.

The first pod of children are also an issue. The 1st and 4th child are often talked about and given strong individual personalities but 2nd and 3rd child come often as a bundle and mostly for comedic relief.

When trouble arises, and ML takes on all the burden, MC often would write it off as 'male lead halo; therefore no need to worry or lend a hand'. Sure, he does worry and all that, but doing one thing and acting the opposite is just conflicting, he knows the butterfly effect is in place, nothing's fail safe. He doesn't even question his extremely smooth road so far either but feels rather he had suffered a lot under the system which he benefited from more than anything.

And even if all these points can't convince you, I can assure you for most of the time during matters surrounding life and death, MC will always think of f*cking first. That's where his priority lies, f*cking. Screw the kids, screw the mission, screw he himself the most. And this novel has no smut so... I don't see the point.

[collapse]
- it's all about the fluff, everything gets pushed into the background
Spoiler

Don't get me wrong here, I love my pure fluff stories, but this is try-harding to implement other elements into the story that just doesn't blend together like water and oil. At every possible twist or turns the author will toss in fluff like a distraction while yet everything lays so transparently in front of you. Just... goddamn it, if you want to make it exciting, make it exciting without MC getting all h**ny all over the place.

[collapse]
- promising smart antagonists that start cannon foddering instantly when faced against the simpleton MC
-hasty and rushed relationship followed up with stagnant married life, with the stagnant flow, the flaws of the protagonists started to stand out like a sore thumb

MC often will take ML for granted and has crappy priorities. There were some strong parts that was unique for transmigration novels that again like usual, got shoved aside for the only and biggest highlight, the fluff.
Spoiler

One crucial part I would to seen more of was the struggle the MC was going through over the fact that the system set him up with the ML, his intentions to help and flattery for the ML was for the sake of his own survival (which in hindsight doesn't stray far off from an average concubine's goals in palace intrigues). Before he could even think of the next step, ML manages to woo MC, so that guilty conscience was tossed far far away.

[collapse]
The author had a good balance to swing between annoying the crap out of me then swoons me again with the fluff. Hence, I'm torn.
At the end of the day, their relationship was based off of misunderstanding like most system transmigration novels, MC keeps deceiving, ML trusts him fully and MC lives somehow with a clear conscience that ML doesn't know jack sh*t with a excuse of "it'll scare him" (as if the current excuse isn't ridiculous enough).
But yeah, overall, it has a strong strong fluffy note, strong to the point of numbing your senses. Certainly not the best fluffy novel out there but also not the worst.

Amazing translations and cute little fan art of readers are a big bonus. <<less

This is one of the best BL novel I've read so far!

If you like fluffiness, good plot yet not that heavy, and good ML then this is a fantastic novel

I absolutely immersed in the story and rooting for both of them. Regrettably it's not that long, but the ending and conclusions are all nicely wrapped up. There are some loose ends but it's not that important so I don't think it'll affect the enjoyable story

Highly recommended just for the fluff and comedy!

It's an amazing read if you ignore the violations to science. Like how a fish can be comfortably out of water, ink on a fish underwater not dissolve, jump on tables, beds etc when it's described to be small, how a fish gets enough oxygen from a tea cup overnight, etc etc etc

I still love the novel though!!!

Okay first off, the use of "fish" as a pronoun/noun was just very cute and funny so I'd like to thank the translator for keeping it that way. It makes the whole thing much much fun to read.

Second, this is so adorable. Jing Wang is super doting and Li Yu is just such a sweet pet fish! I first had doubts with the author choosing the pet to be a fish but honestly now that im reading it there is no better option for the story. Li Yu is a... more>> very cartoony fish and, as a character, the way he views things are also a bit unrealistic but it just adds to his charms. It also makes sense especially when you look at it from Jing Wang's POV. Li Yu is kinda like a magical creature in his eyes, and how Li Yu often does things at his own pace is very whimsical and I just love it. Almost every chapter has me smiling and giggling at how cute things are. Definitely a fun read <<less

This is one of those stories where I just became so invested and fell in love with the characters.

The MC in this novel is incredibly lovable, but he is in no way a Mary Sue. He is confident, intelligent, witty, while also being a little naive and lovable at the same time. His relationship with ML isn't super one sided either. Sometimes it is the ML solving problems, sometimes it's the MC, and usually it ends up with both of them working together to solve the problems. I just love... more>> their relationship dynamic and how the ML just loves MC completely unconditionally and wants nothing more than to keep him safe so they can be together forever.

While the side characters in this novel aren't super prevalent, it was refreshing to have some side female characters who weren't awful (the Jin Jue princess, Qin, Liang).

If I have any complaints, it would be...

Spoiler

I was really uncomfortable with how, near the end, Chuya's (I think that's his name? The original love interest of the ML in the novel that MC transmigrated into) suffering was depicted. In the grand scheme of things, his sins were far lesser than what the second and third prince did (not defending him, he did some shitty things out of greed). Yet, his suffering was far worse, and very explicitly detailed and it was kind of hard to read. I was really uncomfortable reading that part because I thought it was excessive and when MC just laughed at it, I just thought it made the MC look petty and jealous. Usually the MC is such an empathetic character, so when he just laughed after hearing about the original love interest was living in absolute misery and suffering, it just did not sit well.

[collapse]

Aside from that one thing in the spoiler, overall this was a fantastic novel and I absolutely loved reading it. I MTL'd it, which was fairly easy to understand, but I'll probably re-read with when the translations are done because I really love the characters. <<less

Really good so far! 4.5/5

Li Yu transmigrated into a fish and has to complete certain tasks in order to gain rewards (e.g. Increased strength, healing and changes in his fish form), and of course many of the tasks does place MC in some awkward situations. So far, MC is helping ML against the palace intrigue, and I appreciate that MC is actually helpful to the ML and likewise, ML to the MC.

There's not really any angst so far but more fluff, and the ML is super sweet to the MC.... more>> I like that the romance does take a while to develop for both characters, but it doesn't take too long for it to happen considering the length of the novel and how long each chapter is.

Spoiler

Their relationship was established around this ~65 chapter mark

[collapse]

The only issue I have so far is how the MC still is oblivious to the fact that ML is aware that he can switch between human and fish. Many, many situations happen in the novel that makes should make it painfully obvious to anyone, and so it sucks that this is what is being used to push the plot along for a long time.

Overall, I'm very curious on how the novel will progress since there's so many chapters left and a lot has already happened, so hopefully the novel won't feel like it's dragging on. But so far, it's an entertaining read, and I highly recommend it. <<less

[all the ratings mentioned below are as of 21.08.2021]

------------------------------------------------------

I personally would give this 3 stars as average. But I found that it had 4.7 stars which is astonishing for a story without exceptional substance. So I had to give 1 star to balance out the overall rating.

Reading this will make your brain holes become bigger. I usually don't care if things like logic and continuity doesn't add up. But the author is simply asking you to turn blind eye to all the s*upid situations and plot holes where MC comes... more>> out victorious.

I had to drop this after 100+ chapters when the half-human/ half-fish MC miraculously and singlehandedly overcome the assassins sent for him while he doesn't have hands/feet. I'm very open-minded, ok? Just give me something to work with, I beg you!!

I'm guessing all the people who gave 5 stars is because of happy ending, fluffy romance, gratifying face-slappings and most importantly, the fish babies!! I don't blame them. I mean, I read up to 100+ chapters because this story is fluffy and satisfying.

If you can ignore your conscience and tolerate your brain holes, feel free to read this. It's a good read.

However, I can't let it have the same rating as stories like Heaven Official's Blessing (4.7), Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (4.8) and Scum Villain's Self-saving System (4.4!!!). There are many other better-written stories with lower ratings and I feel it such an injustice. <<less

Why did I only discover this story now? Seriously, this transmigration-themed story is one of the best I've read. The fluff, the humor. It's very good. Decent but full of plot holes. MC and ML were extremely OP in the long run and everything went their way. The antagonists, that were formidable in the original world lost their brains and couldn't get a single plan right, always being immediately seen through.

The romance falls into a lot of the cliche pitfalls where it seems cute but would be a red flag and an unhealthy relationship in real life, with the ML's jealousy etc. Their relationship is also built on lies until the last two chapters, but that... more>> was understandable

(Remember to read the tags! The Mpreg caught me off guard and I would not read it normally, but I won't lower my rating because of it because it's a don't like don't read topic and my fault for not noticing. I finished the novel since I was already far in though, and it was okay overall, compared to some really weird ones I've seen.

The author made MC have quadruplets but then completed brushed over the second and third sons and gave them the exact same personality and would always describe the first one and the fourth one and then only occasionally 2 and 3 and they were always in the same sentence doing the same thing. Nothing would have changed if baby 2 and 3 were merged into one.

The kids were also never named. Like there's one sentence mentioning that they chose formal names for them for when they're older but we're never told what the names are and for the whole time until the end of the book they are called Bao/Baby#1 to 4. Obviously it's common to refer to siblings like that but the author straight up never gave them names iirc (the daughter got one atleast)

Tl;dr: it's fluffy but you might want to turn your brain off. Don't think too much if you want to enjoy it lmao <<less

This is an extremely cute and fluffy story with an ancient China twist. The ML is caring, supportive and slightly possessive (without being overbearing or controlling) of the MC. The MC on the other hand trusts the ML and wants him to be the most successful version of himself. While the way the CP takes care of the other princes is a bit too easy for an Imperial Palace story, the focus of the LN was really on developing the relationship between the main leads so the change is admissible... more>> and does not affect the overall quality of the plot. <<less

MC becomes bigger than a palm

[collapse]

MC personality isn't particularly outstanding but he's likable. He's a fair and kind person. He's not perfect but will admit his mistakes. He's very forgiving but when the couple becomes established he'll differ to ML in certain situations. That's because MC is a transmigrator that doesn't want to implicate ML over anything. Which is funny because I don't think ML has ever denied him anything.

Spoiler

MC once asked ML what if he was just using him for his power and his ultimate goal was to sow chaos and discord. This man was like it doesn't matter. Very pampered MC.

[collapse]

MC is honestly kinder than most transmigrator MCs. I don't feel bad for any of the villains

Spoiler

The original MC was punishment severely but he deserved it for expressing malicious intent to MCs kids. Like who cares if they're demon children. Mind your business.

[collapse]

The ML is quality. His character isn't overly complex but he does experience some character growth.
Spoiler

I mean that was MC's system mission. To change his temperament

Like some reviewers on here, I also have a love and hate relationship with this story.

MC: a recent high school graduate applying for college

ML: a prince of a nation journeying to become the emperor of a nation

... more>> Summary:

The MC transmigrated into ancient China as a fish and was raised by the ML as a pet fish. Gradually, the ML discovers the MC's peculiarities and misunderstands that the MC is a carp demon. Over time, the MC and ML fall in love.

The story itself is full of sweet pampering. But the MC sometimes make really dumb decisions that even a high school gradate would not make. The transition from an ancient China theme to mpreg was very abrupt. There are also many questions that are left unanswered. For example, what is the system? Why are the system missions forcing the MC to act intimate with the ML? It feels like the system missions are just there to move the plot forward and acts as the MC's convenient protagonist halo. It is also weird how the MC always calls the system "shitty" even though the system has always been helping out in its own way while the MC is always creating more trouble and misunderstandings.

Overall:

I have very mixed feelings about this story, but the ML is very pampering, side characters are interesting, and the children are tolerable. The MC just seems a lil too childish compared to all the other characters. <<less
