Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world.

Yet a series of unfortunate events forced Hiroto to reincarnate with even less luck than before, starting with nothing but a tremendous amount of Mana. His second life, far worse than his first, came to a cruel end.

However, upon meeting the god a second time, he was informed that there would be yet another reincarnation—one that had already been set in motion and could not be stopped. Not wanting Hiroto to live long, the god cursed him before he was reborn in the hopes that he would either die quickly or commit su*cide.

Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-Vampire, half-Dark Elf. A Dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—death-attribute magic and his enormous Mana pool.

So far, I could say about this novel is very good to read. There are times where the story goes to a dark and tragedy atmosphere occurred to a better place yet with challenges. The World building is explained through development progress that can be understood easily.

The Characters are modest or perhaps unique to a certain degree. But as far, the journey is still long considering that the MC having quite number of objective to achieve, together with his own problem to be solved.

In conclusion, its exciting and fun to... more>> read this novel.

So read away and enjoy the story. <<less

Aside from overabundance of info dumps about food and cooking, the story is actually good. The revenge and betrayal tag doesn't wear off even past the latest chapters (unlike a certain story... Shiel- *cough cough* Hero). Please don't lump this story with that tr*sh. The plot is slow but it certainly is entertaining.

It's been very interesting so far.

Starting off well, with the revenge and all the stuff but it get boring later on.

Spoiler

At the beginning the MC got hunted by humans so he grew a hate for poeple but he forgot that after a couple of chaps

[collapse]

The cooking parts are just pain in the ass, MC is the mr. Right guy (selfless as hell) that u can find in most of the japanese novels, plot armor thick as a montain, clichè everywhere, the villains are just bad, random abilities sprout everywhere, of course MC has some random bullsh*t like 200 million of mana and 9053 active abilities and the beginning of the varius arc of the story are just painful For example:
Spoiler

the MC has just managed to repel a wave of invaders from his city, so what's the first thinghe does? Obviusly he go to a nearby kingdom to register to an adventurer guild becouse no reason at all and in the meantime he save villages from disease and the monsters while helping them from the oppressing empire. So here we go with an super original adventurer arc-saving villages from monsters forced as hell

. The side stories are boring as hell and the plot proceeds slow as a turtle

The trama and the first chapters were really good so 3 stars <<less

Well it was a good web novel so far, if you read the others review but don't know if you should read or not read this:

in the start is really dark but you will understand that it's not about the revenge that Van history is all about, of course he will kill the guys that tortured and killed his mother if he meets them but in the start he make it really clear that he just want to be happy and live in the luxury (eat good stuff and... more>> buy good clothes, not jewel or the likes his luxury is cheap) so he has bad luck so he need to work hard to compensate, that is what is all about, and some people might say that he should kill every one of the city that killed his mother, but he punished them quite a lot, well he did it in a flashy way so it's the opposite of what he should do but no one will connect a baby half vampire-dark elf with what he did you know.... what he did is more secure than a massacre of a whole city. <<less

First of all, this story is great. I mean it has bigger potential. But like many other japanase MC got huge personality problem. He is the biggest hypocrite in this novel and he is naive, very naive, granted he did not have human interaction in his second life, and just horrible family.

But still, my biggest turn off for this novel is MC age. He is not even ten year old when he is out adventuring, he still just baby (infant) but with a teenager personality. It's PW all over again.

Overall... more>> it's a good read but beware MC age and inferiority complex because horrible past <<less

Definitely one of the better isekai stories

Now, if you're reading this, you're probably already familiar with isekai tropes (guy died, reincarnated/transported into another world with myriad of blessings and cheat powers, gathers harem, etc, etc)

Now, it's common to give a spin to the initial formula. In this, the guy (Hiroto) due to a mistake reincarnated with only a high amount of mana, but in a ridiculously bad circumstances the gift turned into a curse as he becomes no more than a lab rat. When the second reincarnation happens he... more>> swore revenge to his classmates who killed him in the second life (and has myriad blessings unlike his), and to prevent that happens God actually gave him a curse hoping him to kill himself ASAP.

Form this point, it can easily turns into another isekai

type story where it's basically revenge fantasy (like Nidome no Yuusha or a few others). The first few chapters support this as he is born to a very persecuted race, and bad things happen to him again.

Yet he does not let hatred completely consume him. Eventually, with his death magic power he gathers a collection of vassals and acquaintances of a certain kind (Undeads, mostly). What is most appealing here that makes it better than most is that his vassals, though loyal to him, does not fall into one note characters with typical hero worship isekai stories usually do. At least, not the inner circle. They feel like actual supporting characters and closer to surrogate family, teaching him of the ways of the world, and reprimanding him when he does wrong. When they asked him what does he really want and he answers with "be happy" it struck a chord with me, reminding of the old adage "the best revenge is a life well-lived." He also does not hesitate to tell about his situation (all of it, including the reincarnation thing) that makes their relationships is not one-sided/imbalanced like most other isekai stories

At this point of the review, he's still collecting vassals, so to speak, so the jury's still out on the overall direction of the story, but here's hoping it goes somewhere nice.

Another good point of the series is that it does worldbuilding decently, giving us information step-by-step as it becomes relevant to the story and not with inelegant exposition. It also does not fall into the garbled wall-of-text trap where the "story" is exploring the RPG mechanics of the world step-by-step for thousands of words.

The reason why I did not give it the best score possible is that while it did not do anything bad, it does not particularly do something great either, and still fall to the typical isekai story progression of "things happening" and "going with the flow" (which I guess is kinda inevitable for web-serialized stories), and also some hints of harem (which I do not think as particularly negative because the relationships are much healthier as it's based on trust instead of hero worship)

TL:DR

Recommended, highly so for those who enjoy isekai type stories <<less

I absolutely despise the author's portrayal of gods in this narrative. While the idea of a civil war among deities is intriguing, the execution falls flat, lacking complexity and nuance. It is funny and kinda dark when you see the consequences of incompetent gods ruling the world, but in this story, every god seems to be intellectually challenged. The main character effortlessly triumphs over them, as they appear to be nothing more than mouth breathing lemmings.

Moreover, the gods lack depth and uniqueness. They come across as one-dimensional and generic, lacking... more>> any distinguishing characteristics.

I'm puzzled by the prevalent trend in many jap Isekai novels depicting religion as inherently malevolent. The recurring themes of corrupt priests, wicked gods, money-driven churches, and inept paladins lack subtlety and nuance. I'm so tired of this... it is honestly incomprehensible to me how badly JP fantasy treats religion. I mean come on, a D&D rule book has more commentary on religion in fantasy then all of Isekai novels combined. <<less

The first few chapters might be boring if the genre it's not your cup of tea. But let me tell you something, this might be one (if not the one) of the very best of the genre. And not all it's just about that, 'cause the characters, world, fights... everything it's very well developed

I'd say that this novel is not good, well I would lie if I said if I said I disliked it all that much too (since I read to the end of human translated part and even read the chatgpt translated version). I am A-ok with power-fantasy type of LN, and some parts of the novel were good (like certain morality related questions to some extent), also characters that are supposed to be infuriating are indeed infuriating (author doesn't overuse this, so you don't get frustrated), some characters have quite... more>> interesting "frame" and backstory (not a lot, but it's something), there is a bit of gore at times (aka author is not that afraid to not mellow certain situations) and that's about it. Author failed to actually show some very important aspects of the story and integrate them into the said story (all you ever get is being told about them), the justifications of actions in some parts are rather subpar, the pacing of the second half of the story is all over the place and it is quite drawn out for no good reason (atleast when compared to the first half), there are quite a few of macguffins in second part of the story and the power balance is very inconsistent (as in some very powerfull enemies get introduced pretty much right after we got told that the priviously seen enemies are the best that they can do at this time, or the spell that is supposed to be "off the charts" by even strongest enemies standarts suddenly gets blocked by some current extra).

All in all i'd say that it was meh, not as bad as some, not as good as some, so if you want some power fantasy to read you can go ahead and do just that (though i'd do that if it got translated fully), also don't expect that much follow up from the first half of the story (aka there will be no suffering for the MC, no grieving, no "survival", no "dark-grim" setting or any of the sort), so if you got lured in by the summary you'll have to reconsider. <<less

I would give this 5 stars. The MC gets so s*upidly powerful that he his allies have to down play his strength because the MC wants to be seen as human. Like his spirit/should is so powerful that it is formless/ incomprehensible but he forces it to look somewhat human. For the folks saying the MC goes soft... How much can you enjoy crushing ants before you get bored? Additionally he gains the power to basically kill souls permanently and had to manage not doing that to enemies that dont... more>> deserve that type of death. Bro at one point part of the MC becomes a literal God to another world while he is just chilling in this world. I've finished the story and it was quite enjoyable. Great fights, Great world building, and lots of satisfaction when some Gods get worked. <<less

Just on start ignore any and I mean ANY review under ch 100 (negative too, they arent really bright for dropping novel in such early chapters without letting it develop... or maybe lucky that they dropped it so soon before going deeper into swamp called "author's imagination) also first time actually trying to do review so bear with me

spoiler free: Read it if you got homework to school about mentally ill pacients or have interest about them as MC is one of them, otherwise find something else as this went... more>> later on original in wrong way

Pros:
Spoiler

MC is no hero, many reviews say that he is goody two shoes... ye like for 20 chapters until he decides to destroy world, kill gods, brainwash millions of people (not really pro but its here for whole part), MC isn't so obsessed over his human form, I mean usually we get MCs that would even lose half of their power if they could still look like adolescent edgelord (especially in jp novels), the part with growing pains and author actually making children not being able to aquire same stat power as adults was also nice

[collapse]

Cons:
Spoiler

Yeaaa this is gonna take long, MC basically brainwashes all of friendly side characters using his passive "charm" (it's f*cking brainwashing skill worse than in most of hypnotize+r*pe d**jins) and the moment you realise that is the moment where you will have hard time reading without being disgusted with MC calling it "affection", Side characters are bland and uninteresting (yea that's to be expected from brainwashed people), main character himself is disturbing personality wise, author did very well creating mentally unstable, twisted and scary persona... too well, person like MC would in normal world get locked into asylum for eternity and there would be documents about his twisted mind, the plot is just like MC unstable if said with consideration random and chaotic if not

The reviews really are whack so I won't bother hyping it up, I'll just make a few pointers as I've been reading for years and am keeping up as they drop roughly (04/03/22).

The book is pseudo-serious. From the character's perspective, it's not a joke or goof. From the reader's it's hyperbolic at times and full of typical Japanese troupes.

The world building is top knotch. As long as it's been going, I honestly haven't found any holes in the lore and this series is based 95% on its lore and history... more>> and the world the author has built. Actually very interesting/fleshed-out world (s).

All the women are beautiful, most of the men are macho. It might be a harem, but it's not ecchi. The story is based on a child MC, you won't find pervy crap.

The MC does not lose his edge as other reviews would have you believe. He's simply not heartless or angsty. He is kind and loving to those around him and absolutely ruthless towards anybody endangering those he would protect.

Last, I don't believe there is a plot. It seems very much so a story that's meant to be enjoyed without any substantial goal to pursue. MC's goal is to be happy and protect the ones around him. There is no direct aim for that except in small scale goals to help ensure that.

If you're looking for excitement, go elsewhere. If you want an immaculate world to fuel your imagination, you're definitely in the right place. It's not for everyone by any means. <<less

Average. The story is average, it basically checks every cliche of every isekai anime ever.

MC saves someone, then they feel eternal gratitude for the MC giving them some bread or some shit.

the prologue is annoying too

Spoiler

the goddess gives a guy with the same name as the MC a lot of talents and then to the MC she's like "wtf omg I'm so sorry". Well goddess, you're f*cking ret*rded since, do you know how many John Smiths and Mary Janes are out in the world, what're you f*cking s*upid? Prologue doesn't even make sense since there are so many people with the same name in this world that a goddess with an age of like infinity should know that. Sorry for the cursing, the prologue just irked me.

Also I hate how the translation writes Japanese words in English. Like 'master' but it's 'goshujinsama' in the text or something like that. Please just use master, it makes me cringe.. <<less

An enjoyable read. It passes as a fantasy novel. It has well defined myths, history in various places, and multiple characters.

Too names to rember that author will even give character recaps every volume. Good thing wiki exists lol. Kudos to the author creating this big scale of characters and even give them at least a back story or two. But some are just forgotten as time goes by. But still too many active names and more to come. Imagine that the bravers themselves are 100...

MC is a bit child... more>> like. Has multiple women in his harem. I stopped counting after 10. Current number is kinda unconfirmed but no romance or anything of sort has happen. No drama there. He just passively grows his harem without even trying. And the girls are just waiting for him to grow up. He is around 11 at most in the lastest chapter yet his harem size is probably more that his age. Has an OP charm that makes everyone like him. Enemies will defect to him.

MC by default is expressionless but is kind inside. But Seeks warmth from others. He is compassionate but also indifferent. He takes revenge on certain people but when he is strong enough to show compassion, he will spare the villans family etc. He destroys villans only because they bother him or if they will be a threat to people he care about. <<less

I really liked the story. It firstly started of a bit slow and there was a lot you had to remember about the characters, but after about 15 chapters it started to get real interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a overpowered hero, who is still trying to come to grasp with his power, has good backstory and has a clear goal for his future.
Spoiler

It got especially interesting after he comes to reality with his non-functional goal of trying to become a famous adventure among humans and achieving nobility.

[collapse]

Though I would love if the translator increased the amount of chapter being posted as it's coming to good arc in story and too much time between chapters causes being out of flow.

The story in itself is very good, but only until it's half or so. There is good world building, but are not appropriate politics. Whole story is linear. What I mean is that every chapter can MC meet a little bit stronger opponent then before and MC himself is always little bit stronger then his enemy. But there isn't enyone strongest or weakest in the main story line. So I gets boring really fast.

Kingdom building story about a reincarnated boy in a dhampir body that got screwed up in his previous life but against all odds he decides that he doesn't want the next life and so he decides to live with what he got in this one. This is my favourite novel of all time.

I personally love the MC. He is insane inside but sane on the outside. He is not ruthless towards those not involved like the innocent but he will annihilate his enemies. His driving ambition is to revive his mom and be happy with those around him.

Secondly, the jobs, levels and gods are all explained which is a nice touch and the curses on Van doesn't really affect him that much. In fact, it is beneficial to his soul. I loved how Van neither... more>> likes or dislikes his classmates and is just indifferent towards them.

To be honest, those who are rating it so low didn't even read through 50 chapters. But I did, and let me tell you, it's an amazing story.

Elaborate and complex world-building, well-developed characters, a bit of comedy sprinkled here and there, that is what this story is.

The main character, Vandalieu, is not arevenge-obsessed edgelord. He doesn't kill everyone indiscriminately, nor he forgives those who he holds in contempt.

Spoiler

For example, he despises those who were directly involved with his mother's death, going as far as turning them into zombies, forcing them to kill their comrades, and then crushing their souls. At the same time, he doesn't hate those who were unable to oppose the decision (such as the mayor of the city and those who had simply followed their instructions), and had left them alone after destroying their society.

[collapse]

His methods of working are good, and he doesn't spit out ideals like your typical Japanese MCs.

There is a harem, sure, but Van is not like your dense protagonists, nor there is any lucky pe*vert moment in this story. There are jokes about harems and all the girls want to marry him, but the other characters get their own marriages and all that.

All in all, just read it. Bear through the first twenty chapters, and you'll be able to enjoy the next 10k pages or so. <<less
