— “I like you. I’ve always liked you.”

A sudden confession made at an idol handshake session. This was not an unusual scene. However, Yorito’s fate began to change drastically after this confession.

The next day, the girl sitting next to him, her eyes hidden by her bangs, changed her attitude completely. Up until now, they had only greeted each other lightly, but for some reason, the girl with hidden eyes was watching Yorito.

When Yorito returns from lunch, he finds a cute envelope with a letter in it in his desk. The envelope and letter had no name written on it, just a request to come to the rooftop after school. Yorito went to the rooftop as stated in the letter.

And what was waiting for him there was the girl sitting next to him.

Bad but not the worse. You should only read it to kill time and not expect this to be the defining work of the rom-com genre. There's a good level of entertainment to be had.

In this novel, the author tries to create a protagonist that treads carefully between that fine line of being so dense he's negative IQ and being as perceptive as a regular human being with a functioning brain. It's understandable, the novel would immediately end without the gimmick, and having a dense MC is the easiest way... more>> to maintain a stable level of tension throughout the story. However, around half of the protagonist's lines are him being confused about what is going on, unable to pick up on very obvious cues while the sidekicks denounce his apparently irresistible charm and ability to attract the opposite s*x.

The heroines and side characters are alright, though I would've preferred having just one love interest but ok.

In other words, it's insufferable most of the time but not enough to stop reading it. The author doesn't go too far for too long with the MC's denseness. I get the feeling that he knows when not to push the readers too hard. Also, there's some level of plot that keeps me interested. The translation is okay, so that's also a plus. <<less

The start of the second arc is a little abrupt, but I'll give it four stars for the time being because it has potential. Whether the author will actually develop that properly or whether they actually wrote themselves into a corner as some people speculated remains to be seen.

The MC is a bit of your typical dense protagonist who turns out to be an ikemen with no self-awareness, but unlike a lot of others, that isn't because he looks down on himself or is excessively shy. He can get along... more>> with girls fairly well (which appears to be part of the reason for his popularity) ; he just doesn't notice their affections.

The characters introduced so far haven't been particularly deep, but overall they're fairly varied and have distinct personalities. If I had to describe the tendency of the author to lean towards a particular type, I'd say there are more girls who look / act younger than they really are, but that doesn't mean that it applies to all of them.

It's worth noting that it turns out to be more of a harem romcom than a single romance despite the MC having feelings for the idol from the start. This isn't in the tags, so if that's a dealbreaker for you, you may want to skip the novel. The MC is fairly oblivious about it, but the girls aren't overly aggressive in their approach either, so there's still potential for it to develop reasonably well. <<less
