By a twist of fate, she found herself married to the future Prime Minister. In countless Qing dynasty time-travel novels, Third Miss Gu was always a mere background character. But in this moment, her world turned upside down.

What did the fierce battle for the imperial throne have to do with her? She was only here to drift through life and wait for its end in peace.

However, no matter how much she wanted to take it easy, her marriage turned out to be far from ideal—not that she went searching for trouble, but trouble certainly found its way to her!

From being scorned as the son of a lowly official to rising as a revered statesman at the pinnacle of power, His Excellency the Prime Minister will show you how the top secretary of the Qing Dynasty was forged.

Yet, with a knowing smile, Third Miss Gu gently dismantles his myth:

“Oh please,” she chuckles, “wasn’t all of that just a result of smoothing things over and muddling through?”

I read the story until chapter 40, and it was absurd. In the story, all the feudal rules and etiquette have been fed to the dogs. It's a waste of time.... more>>
Spoiler

1. The FL's reputation was ruined by her sister, and the family did nothing. Since there was mention of drowning women in pig cages, the era was still harsh on women. But according to what I've read so far, there was no confrontation when the FL's reputation was ruined. In fact, the mother discredited her daughter, and the sister was not even given a warning, let alone a punishment. The FL had to live with a bad reputation, and her family did nothing to save her. She didn't try to save her reputation either. In a feudal era, if a woman's reputation was ruined, other females in the family wouldn't be able to get good marriages either.

2. The family knew the elder sister had an affair with a man, but did nothing to her. They didn't try to find out who the man was so that they could arrange a marriage. In fact, the father tried to arrange her marriage with his friend's son, knowing how his daughter had avoided marriage before.

3. The elder brother of the FL, scared of teaching the FL, handed over the duty to his younger brother, who at that time was in talks about marrying the elder sister. This was a period where the separation between men and women was very strict, but the elders acted as though this was nothing.

4. The mother of the ML teaches her 10-year-old son that his second eldest brother and sister-in-law are a couple of snakes and scorpions and that he should stay away from them. The reason the mother hated the second son so much was that when he was young, he was playing in the river. He stayed underwater for a bit longer than expected. The elder brother, who was with him, panicked when he didn't see his brother come up and jumped into the water despite not knowing how to swim, nearly drowning himself (where were the servants and guards?!!). The mother blamed her ignorant second son for this. A Taoist trope was added, stating that the second son was a death star. Due to this, the second son (i.e., the ML) was essentially sentenced to death by her and was always ignored in the family. And she taught such disgusting things to a young child. Did she love him or hate him? Where was the respect for elders and the strict hierarchy of seniority in ancient times?

5. The men (fathers) in both the ML's and FL's families were made very strange. They were powerful officials and respected scholars. Professionally, they had very high reputations. But in family matters, they acted either too gullible to their wives' words or ignored things despite knowing everything. In any case, neither father was good to the FL or ML.

The plot mentioned in point 4 was a deal-breaker for me. I didn't like how twisted the story was becoming.

[collapse]
I started the story thinking it was a simple slice of life, but it became overly dramatic, had too many plot holes, and was too twisted for my taste. Not recommend.
