Since I enjoy angst filled unrequited love stories which later turn mutual, this novel is just perfect for me. It caters to my taste of what I generally prefer in such recycled troupes.

What I especially like in this story & also the reason I am still sticking with it, is because of the FL.

She's been in an unrequited love with the ML for a long time. But she tries hard not to let herself waver at his actions. Always reminding herself that they are in a contract & she that shouldn't expect anything else. I like that resolve & wonder also how long will she be able to maintain it. Thus, there's always an anticipation for the next chapter.

I have nothing much to say about the ML. He's just what you can expect of any ML's in such novels. Has some history, needs an heir & thus forms a contract with the FL.

Also, I shouldn't be saying this after what transpired between her & the 2nd ML (supposedly) on their first meeting but...... I really enjoy their interactions so much. Though he acts like a jerk, he always keeps her on an edge & she always makes him react in unexpected ways. I see the spark & tension between them but ik they're a lost cause. I wonder if I am the only one??

Edit: He is a JERK. I hope he's not even a candidate.

In conclusion, I am loving this so so much & going by the prologue it seems the real drama is yet to unfold.

The plot has very generic trope; secret crush, misunderstanding, confinement, pregnancy, runaway, reconciliation. The writing is average, nothing remarkable about it. It's passable for reader who read this kind of plot for first time and has nothing better to read, but I have read many similar plots, so I won't waste my time on this.

If you've been lurking around Knovels long enough, you've probably stumbled upon this trope more times than you can count. And you know what? I eat it up every single time. Call it a guilty pleasure, call it tr*shy escapism — either way, I'm here for it.

Now, fair warning: it takes 90 chapters to finally get to the good, meaty drama. Thankfully, the chapters are short, so you won't grow old waiting.

ML is your standard-issue overbearing, alpha male menace. Scary, broody, dominant — the whole "I'll marry you for appearances... more>> but don't you dare fall for me" shtick. Classic. And of course, who ends up falling the hardest? This guy. Watching him eat his words was pure entertainment. His jealous outbursts? Delicious. Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with me either, but a pathetically jealous ML just scratches an itch in my brain. And this one? Absolutely feral. Peak unhinged behavior.

The way he'd lose his mind when FMC wasn't immediately matching his intense, obsessive energy — after he's the one who told her to keep it casual — is just hilarious. Sir, pick a struggle. I wasn't a fan of his hot-and-cold attitude, but watching him unravel into a love-drunk, possessive mess was worth it.

"He wanted to keep her forever within his sight and away from anyone else's gaze. It was an irrational, all-consuming desire.That obsession, bordering on madness, stoked the flames of his yearning."

Leonid acted as if he were consumed by a constant, gnawing anxiety. He tried to control her every move, never taking his eyes off her, even for a second.

It had reached the point where he had moved his work to this room, handling marquis duties from here. On certain days, he'd take her to his study, seating her on his lap as he worked.

The more his abnormal behavior continued, the greater Johanna's fear grew. She was terrified of his obsessive, unhinged need to possess her, his desire to monopolize her completely. It was as if he were losing himself, breaking down before her eyes.

This relationship was corroding them both

The smut? Whew. Sometimes a little too intense. Like, ma'am — how are you walking? I would've needed a hospital bed, a priest, and a wellness check after round four, let alone ten. ML was legit in a rut, and it showed.

Overall: Nothing groundbreaking plot-wise, just your good ole arranged-marriage, arrogant-ML guilty pleasure. No deep meaning. No life lessons. Just vibes, drama, and possessive nonsense. <<less
