Qi Yan had always been dissatisfied with two things about himself. One was that his name was not mighty, and the other was that his appearance was even less mighty. However, all that did not prevent him from embarking on the broad road of a Feng Shui master.

I love it. Simple but cute and very sweet.

MC is very powerful (and very cute) Feng shui master. Love it when he give fortune telling or solve client's problem. He looks so smart and professional master but actually he is very cute and kind.

ML looks very cold, but actually he is sweet and pampering. He is rich and handsome, but not arrogant and domineering.

Love it so far!

MC is really likable and the plot is super engaging ^^

ML has only appeared a bit and he seems to be a typical cold rich sickly powerful businessman that we often see as a male lead, but he hasn't done anything that's made me dislike him and there aren't any red flags. It's a common formula but the author seems to be using it well so there's no criticism from me!

... more>> Definitely recommend this

edit: I realized I recognized the author — they've wrote tons of great books from Eight Treasures Trosseau to Very Happy across so many settings. I can now vouch that although it hasn't started—the romance is gonna be great and heartwarming too. I consider most of their books to be 5 stars and sone of my favourites <<less

So I finished reading the MTL while suffering from a very high fever, then getting through it. After the fever, I had a very severe stomachache which turned out to be food poisoning. And at this time, I have made it through. I feel so happy.

*spoiler alert
First of all, I love the MC. His character is so lovable. For me, he is impossible to dislike at all. All his actions and thoughts all satisfy my criteria of an MC who makes a reader's day better. I also like his... more>> OPness, this is a plus since I've always liked capable MCs who can stand up for theirselves and also have the power to keep his position as the MC and not be overpowered by the ML (it's usually the ML who is always so special and stronger than the MC) (though the ML is also a unique existence here, it did not cover MC's limelight).

For the ML, I love him. I love how he treasured the friendship between him and MC and how it gradually turned into love. It was kinda sad how he realized he was in love with the MC but the MC recovered very quickly. I also love the way he started pursuing the MC, no forceful ways, just going with the flow, if an opportunity strikes, attack with ambiguious words!! At that I thought the MC would be dense but to my surprise, he seem to get it immediately and started analyzing his feelings for ML. When he got his conclusion, he went to ML and started fidgeting so cutely. My heart became a mess at that scene. The ML confessed his feelings. Though it wasn't the best time, since they were interupted repeatedly, it was basically confirmed. Ugh, I love them.

Next is the Cen family, I love all of them. They were open-minded and supported the fifth child's decisions. When they knew the ML liked the MC, they were purely supportive and never went against their relationship. Instead, they even felt that the ML is not good enough for MC since they all think of how a good child the MC is. It was so funny with the second sister. When she caught the ML holding down the MC on the bed in the hospital. All her thoughts were that her younger brother is a beast ahahahahaha. She slapped her precious younger baobei thrice and showed concern for the MC. I love her ahahahaha. The ML was so wronged.

I don't have much opinion on MC's mother, but I liked how she knew not to overstep her bounds and start controlling how the MC lives his life. Instead she tried to know all his hobbies and likes and treated him as a friend. Of course, she also exercised her position as a mother by buying all sorts of things for the MC, spoiling him. She also supported MC and ML's relationship when she knew how the Cen family treated her son well.

Finally the master, the most mysterious character in the novel. I think he was called Wu Shao by his friends? I'm not sure. But I'm very thankful for him, for raising MC to be a person that loves the common people but also loves himself. His character is so interesting. One moment you think what he's saying isn't true because of how casual he is when talking about it. But when you think about it again, everything he said was true. I really want to know his past, his story. And I wished he could have had a partner to spend his life with. But still he was blessed with a very adorable baby whom he raised to be the hero for many people and to continue his legacy. Those legendary figures in the Feng Shui world all hide into the common people to experience the life they haven't had since all they could since young was study and then go help people sieze a ray of hope, often neglecting themselves. That's why, I think the master was very satisfied. I hope so.

The plot is very satisfying, the MC met good and bad people, people who had good fate and people who had a bad fate. It opens our eyes to see that each person we meet have lives of their own that greatly differs from ours. And if help could be given, give it to those who truly needs it. The MC's character is a person willing to sacrifice himself for the people, which is why I pity the ML a little since he always has to worry about the MC being in coma or being injured. I don't know if I could sacrifice myself like the MC, but if a situation does happen, I hope I won't burden my loved ones.

Now I'm just writing whatever crosses my mind. Its 2 AM here btw. Anyways, the MTL is readable. So if you don't have the patience like me, give it a try. <<less

As usual, this author never disappoints.

MC is a feng shui master. He is powerful and a genuine hero. Like he doesn't mind getting injured or even dying if it means protecting the common people. Most of the novel is about solving small issues with an over-arching plot of an enemy country's supernaturalists scheming to take down China's uh dragon line/ fortune line to destroy it. So MC inadvertently stumbles upon serious incidents and decides to take it upon himself to improve the overall defence of the country (in a supernatural... more>> way lol). MC is a little black-belly too. He will practice Taoism but whenever he comes across villains/ fake masters, he will call the police and give them up for 'practicing feudal superstition' lmaoo.

ML starts off as cold and rich. But he is actually very gentle and there's a reason he is so cold.

He's about to die. Not due to disease but his uhh supernatural aptitude is very very good. If he was born during war times, he would have reached the very top but since he was born in peaceful times, his aura has no place to go. So he is like someone born so lucky/ fortunate that his body can't handle it. MC solves it.

The romance is very very subtle. Like I really can't remember much of their romance except MC is very bold and once they confirm their relationship, MC goes around showing off ML. <<less

You don't have to pay for the chapters!
The other reviewer clicked on advanced chapters, you have to wait for them to become free, no need to register or pay!

It needs a "fantasy" tag/genre addition, this isn't a serious story about a Taoist, which I expected from the genre and tags, it's strong soft-fantasy.

I have around 100 chapters left but am going to draw the line here despite the risk of missing some super great development somewhere close to the end, over 50 chapters are enough to know that... more>> it's not for me.

MC is the basic "I'm the greatest medium/witch/whatever" teenage dream.

He knows when and where someone is going to sneeze and shows up in time to hand them a tissues.
Ghosts, rituals, talking to deities, fighting evil practitioners, he can do everything and always wins.
Old masters don't hold a candle to him, he beats them all in terms of knowledge and ability.

Bad guys all get punished, good people always get lucky, the novel is strong on instant-karma.

Also, there's some strange overlap with cultivation that doesn't quite fit and seems to exist only when MC needs it, like absorbing moon essence without any kind of hint that xianxia cultivation is a thing in the world the novel takes place in, and no one but him seems to be doing it or even know about it.

Nothing against a nice wish-fulfilment story, weren't it for how repetitive it is.

Person meets MC, doesn't believe he's a master/is disrespectful to him, MC shows his might, everyone's in awe and becomes a fan of him.

That's basically the whole story, every few chapters.

The characters are nice, not very detailed, everyone's OP and perfect, so nothing to complain about if you just want to relax.
Romance is fine, no love at first sight but your typical "adults don't realise they are in love".

I kinda expected more from this, maybe because the description reads like it's about someone who isn't already so perfect, I thought I would get struggles and see MC doing some hard work but there's neither.

It doesn't really feel like a serious story, more like a YA a young writer created as a personal dream where the good always wins and the MC is omnipotent, jam-packed with slightly mismatched tropes and topics that turn it into something that reads like an entertainment story with Taoists.

Recommended for those who are looking for exactly that, not so much for those who want a at least slightly believable novel. <<less

Great story however once you reach chapter 42 the site forces you to either pay or only get the first paragraph of the chapter There was no indication it was a site where I needed to pay so it was a nasty surprise once I got to a point, and I was asked to create a username and then pay.

Read translation to chapter 60, then MTL'd the rest.

Cute, humble, ML is secretly OP in fortune telling/taoism in this urban fantasy BL novel from one of my favourite authors, Butterfly's Shadow Beneath the Moon. The characters and world remind me of her "Don't Discriminate Against Species", except set in the Chinese fortune telling/taoism world.

Relaxing, happy read as the ML helps people with his powers, and finds love, friends, and family.

Unusually, the author includes a nationalistic/patriotic/victimization story arc - at an ... more>>

international competition, powerful western characters arrogantly bully nice chinese characters who have been historical underdogs, and the chinese characters then righteously fight back and win gloriously over the overbearing western powers. The author usually writes in a very subtle, calm manner, so I was a bit surprised how she wrote the tr*shy unreasonable stereotypes from some other novels.

Love this! I really like the MC, ML, and the care, support, and trust that they have for each other. The supporting characters are good too. There are no extreme characters, even though some of the villains acted out chilling evil deeds, the author made sure to show that even they had longings before they perish. I've read up to C37 wonderfully translated by the translators at Creative Novels, and read the remaining chapters via MTL.

My fav character is the MC, Qi Yan. He's adorable, reliable, very capable, and ferocious... more>> when necessary, an all-in-one package. Love the ML too. He's perfect in many ways, but never arrogant. Both MC and ML are well-grounded and balanced individuals.

Overall, the story is very heart-warming and it's a rewarding read. It may not be perfect for everyone, but I'm not looking for a literary classic to read, so it's perfect for me. Recommended!

This is the 2nd novel that I've read from this author. The other novel that I've read was "Very Happy". It's a really beautiful and very touching story. If you love the MC, Qi Yan from this story, you'd also love the MC, Li Zhao from "Very Happy". <<less

  1. This is definitely a reccomended novel! The MTL was pretty okay to read so I finished reading that since it's not fully translated yet. But I will definitely come back to read the translation again.

I was skeptical about the story at first because I wasn't sure what to feel about a modern setting of a Taoist practitioner. But it's surprisingly good and easy to get sucked into the story itself.

I love that the MC is really OP but really sticks to his principles that was passed down from his master. Both MC and ML have cute interactions. This is shounen ai so there weren't any steamy scenes lol but I like how they really care for each other and that their family understands their relationship.

    So about MCs family :

MC is an orphaned child who was born at a very unlucky date and time. He was abandoned and shortly after, was picked up by his adoptive father that is a Taoist master. His adoptive dad later toom him as a disciple when he was discovered to have a knack for metaphysics etc. There is a plot twist later on about MCs origins. I am very glad MC found his mum after a long time. It was then revealed that his mother has been looking for him and she didnt abandon him when he was a baby.

All in all, if I had to say anything, it's that he didnt take in a disciple even when he got older. They didnt adopt any kids or take in any potential candidates for the 24th generation of his Taoist clan. This saddened me because it meant he isnt fated to meet anyone suitable to be a disciple.

I absolutely love the author. Her characters are so well-grounded and balanced, like a cool breeze in spring. I haven’t read enough to discuss the plot yet but I am enjoying the interactions between the protagonist and all the coincidental clients. The translation is smooth.

I loved this novel. There are some things that some may criticize - such as the op-ness of the MC - but who cares about that. This novel is a feel-good novel. It will make you happy just reading it. The MC is a bit of a Gary Stu, but everything he does is morally correct so it’s hard to hate him for that. He’s also not a saint to those who don’t deserve it.
I could keep going, but I won’t. The translations aren’t very far, but the mtl-s... more>> are very easy to read. I recommend anyone who needs a pick-me-up to try it out. <<less

I forgot to put review again! It's been a while since I finished reading this novel. MC is such a charm! So likable and sweet, he can be kind and sharp at the same time (depending on the person he's talking to; he is not a doormat nor super cold arrogant guy!)

The way MC & ML's relationship grow is so smooth, they grow up from strangers > friends > lovers. The ONLY thing I probably hate is...

the reality show/island part??? Gosh that's so annoying!!! And the author just has to insert some comparisons between sorcerers of the west and east. I have to say, that part is cringy as f*ck I have to skim through the chapters.

Also when MC finally found his true family...

TBH? I kinda want MC to never find his actual family... and his family just has to be some rich and powerful person... sigh... It's the secretly rich trope that I don't really like

Other than that, I just love everything about this novel. MC is not completely overpowered, his power is perfectly balance since he has moments where he collapsed & almost dies due to a dangerous ritual. ML is also not a cold block, he is nice when he is needed. All in all, great novel to read <<less
