Nothing really special that hasn't been done before. Guy reincarnated and
Spoiler

surprises people with his magic/genius. He makes a groundbreaking rice cooker. His duty is to eliminate a reincarnated hero who has many more cheats than he does but he is an assassin so ez pz. Unfortunately nothing about MC personality wise stands out and everyone else is one note. The overindulging parents, the Loli teacher, nothing new. For that I give it 3 stars as it doesn't do anything bad but it doesn't do anything great either.

I came from the manga and now this has an anime adaptation as well so I suppose I should review it and get it out of my to do list.

The first volume was nice. It was even a bit better than the typical jp isekai and I had expectations for it to be atleast a proper popcorn read but the later volumes reverts back to the annoying tropes that plague the JP isekai genre and it starts going downhill from there. Also some plot contrivance that I don't like and... more>> the characters sometimes feel too cardboard like.

I guess it's better than redo healer at least.

I'd say it's rather meh.

The novel equivalent to gunning everybody down on a stealth mission.

Despite the unique premise most assassinations are just regular fights. It's annoying to see a cool idea be bogged down by typical JP isekai tropes/poor execution.

I do like that he got several cheats (one each from S-D tier) as it gives a lot more options than one super OP skill.

Lovers of isekai and actual character development are welcome to enjoy the adventures of the assassin of house Towerhades. Lots of cliches for a harem genre but it has a special approach that does not overly emphasize on the op part of the MC, leave a like and enjoy

This is good. I read this novel because I was interested in the continuation of the story after reading the manga.

I really like stories like this where things that are usually evil are changed from their point of view into something good and good, their point of view becomes something evil.

I don't read the raw so I'm still waiting for the translation to finally be updated

well the point is this is a good novel for me especially when the MC experienced his first wet dream... lol (͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡... more>> °) <<less

Ok... well... mmm... I'm conflicted.

This review is based on Volume 1 of the Novel.

Ok, let me begin by saying that the premise and the start of the novel is quite well done, the set pieces and world building is great!, our MC is growing and learning and everything when he's starting up, its exiting and interesting to read, the author went at length to set up the different devices to justify how the plot will move forward, MC haves a GOAL and FOCUS, the OP'ness of the MC in this... more>> chapters was funny and interesting and everything you could hope for this kinds of stories, I loved this chapters because they were their own thing... with a normal cliché setting, the difference in focus was interesting in its own right.

This is very well portrayed for around half of the first volume, then it shifts.

The shift was... mmm... let's just say that the shift was competent, it's got the same plot devices of "all" Isekai stories, and they were done in a proper way, the setting introduces the need for aliases on our MC which is well done and interesting... but here the OP'ness of our MC was a bit less competent, I'm not saying it was done poorly but it felt too "convenient", although, again it's the same plot device that is always used on all this stories I didn't find it believable and I felt like it was done just to emulate other stories instead of doing it's own thing, as if the author was thinking "I want to do it this way... no, I better do what everyone else did because I don't feel confident with my idea" in this part of the volume there is character growth and well portrayed characterizations.

I liked the new characters introduced, TBF most of the characters are well introduced and their characterizations are good!, if anything the author is able to make characters "deep enough" for this kinds of stories.

What I didn't like was that the author set up a bunch of plot devices just to throw them away to move his characters forward, it felt like the author began to rush his set ups and the pay off was a bit lacking.

Then we have our first couple of conflicts.

And of the two, one was an intriguing set up to showcase the wits of our MC, the other one was a "I'm super OP" show of force that was... incredibly dumb.

But, fine, it was fine, it was ok, it was... disappointing but OK.

Then we start volume 2.

And that's where I dropped it.

I don't know if I want to continue it, because the setting is "school"

The author had "one" premise, that was "a SUPER SMART TOP OF HIS CLASS AMAZING assassin reincarnated"

And he threw away that premise at the end of volume one (with the way he fought) and then chose one of the common Japanese settings that fester this kinds of stories like a plague.

I know it's not fair to do this, but I'm done with all those things, I have never, once, in the whole time I've read this kinds of stories, enjoyed the "school setting".

I skipped a couple of chapters and read ahead... and I am confident that I've done the right thing because after volume 1, everything devolves into your obnoxiously boring Yuusha vs Demon Lord story.

And the premise is completely broken.

The author is competent enough, so if you enjoy those arches go right ahead.

I just can't, for the life of me, endure another "school setting"

The Author only had one thing going for him and then disposed of it by the end of volume one because he didn't have any other idea at all.

The "brilliance" of our MC goes just as far as the smarts of the Author, and the author is not a "genius", but it was competent enough to work right ahead with the premise... only to dispose of that same premise...

I'm conflicted because the novel isn't incompetent, it's well done, but it haves elements in it that I don't enjoy and can't endure, also, the translation as stated before by others is... a mess... so on top of it being something I don't endure plot wise, it's also a chore to read because you have to fathom the meaning of disjointed translations with changes in names and horrible terrible wordings that don't make sense.

To future translators... I know it would be HARD WORK, but I also think it would be worth it to EDIT PAST TRANSLATIONS.

Well, since I'm not a translator my self I can't do it, and I don't have the drive to try and edit that mess.

So, 3 stars, because this novel is genuinely right in the "ok" spectrum. <<less

The writing isn’t bad enough to be called atrocious, but it’s halfway there. There was definitely quite a bit of nuance and flow lost in translation since it was machine translated, but the writing seems subpar even just looking at the structure and pacing. The machine translation and poor editing were really just the final straw. The plot is rather interesting, but the characters and interactions feel unnatural. The story uses a very childish measure of what is cool, and that reflects in the protagonist and the scenarios he goes... more>> through.

The plot alone is interesting and I recommend trying the story to see if it suits your taste, but I dropped it for the many aspects I felt the author failed in. <<less

This is good, the translation is rough in the beginning but as you move forward the translation gets better little by little, the story so far by now is good, cliche yes, but everything has been made by now so.... what matters is how the story develops and the author is not doing a bad job at it... I recommend it.

The story itself is enjoyable but doesn't deviate far from other LN's such as Mushoku Tensei.

I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE TRANSLATIONS GET BETTER PAST THE FIRST VOLUME. It's C-grade translation at first but the more recent translations are a big improvement and you will definitely enjoy this Best Assassin isekai story.

The characters are well-developed and the world-building is sufficient, but the write seems to focus on their food details a bit much, but it's only here and there. The pace of the story is great but, in contrast to... more>> the descriptions of dinner/brunch-time, some of the larger conflicts/events are somewhat summarized and short and lack description. The author also doesn't go into fine detail about much except the rules about magic and the world, so expect short descriptions of everything aside from key moments and dialogue. But that's me being picky. 100% worth the reading - the anime is fantastic also! <<less

I watched the anime, and even though it's full of clichés, the presentation was nice enough. The premise that the MC isn't the Hero and isn't more OP than the hero, and would need to assassinate him seemed interesting. This archetype is overused as hell, of the serious and cold genius kid who suposedily doesn't care about anyone else's feelings and sees people as tools, but the story seemed honest enough with it and thus I knew what I was watching and reading, when I began reading the LN. The... more>> final fight of the anime, although "just according to the plan"-ish was still in characer with the starting premise.

Then volume 2 and 3 threw all that to the garbage can.

Spoiler

The MC goes into a magic school of sorts, where he and his harem get max scores, and they're the coolest people around. Then he meets the hero who, shocker, is a girl who falls in love with him because he is so cool and strong. Then he decides to befriend the hero and they all become extremely famous for killing monsters that no adult could kill. He, the super secret assassin becomes a friggin' Holy Knight.

[collapse]

Wtf happened after volume 1? Did the editors convince the author he had to try and appeal to more people? It's a sh*tshow, this is what it is. <<less

The premise of the story seemed interesting, but the execution of it seems lacking. The translations at IssacTranslations is crude at best. Although I try to refrain from letting that impacting the rating of the story itself, it does wane my interest. Additionally, the dialogue of the characters are really too simple to consider it a real conversation. Seems more like a primary school students attempt at writing. The author definitely needs to improve their description/diction and dialogue more.

Another aspect I disliked about the story thus far is that despite... more>> reincarnating to a world of sword and magic, the science/logic of the world remains near identical, if not identical to the MCs original world on earth. The materials he needs found on Earth, are conveniently existing on his current world as well. So much for being a fantasy world. He is therefore able to borrow his unreasonable large knowledge on very miscellaneous subjects given that he was an assassin, to plot armor his way through the story.

Spoiler

e.g. it seems very unreasonable for an assassin to know things (or vividly remember things) like the periodic table and chemistry in such detail (atomic mass, specific gravity, etc of various elements). He even knows how to make lotion and cosmetics which deviates very much from his occupation. Why would he need this on Earth? Too unreal, and too unreasonable which makes me dislike the way the author goes about the story, as they abuse Earth as a reason the MC knows what he does.

[collapse]

To be fair, I have not read enough chapters, so I will refrain from giving it a lower score. I may come back at a later time to revise this comment once I read further.

Edit:

Having read through the first volume, overall its not that bad. It could do with more details/explanations on the development of the MCs skills and abilities, more than just vaguely glossing it over as "did some experimenting and this was the result." Content is still somewhat bland, given that the writing lacks detail, and the MC is without equal atm. Seems more like a slice of life type story with some action here and there. Romance is also turning vague. Its certainly there, but...
Spoiler

given that all the love interests are turning into his sisters via adoption, should there be a potential in*est tag as well?

[collapse]

Hopefully, the 2nd volume will be more eventful than the first. <<less

I don't know what to say with this one story basically for me this is the best story I've ever read out of the many stories I've read I don't know how many because there are so many and well all of them are isekai hahaha but why am I only giving 2 stars ? Even though I say this is the best story I've ever read?

there are various reasons that make me confused myself should judge how much let's see

I came from manga at first I found this manga... more>> on a translation website and I was very disinterested because from the poster I saw it reminded me of the character Maou Anos Voldigod who was very op but brainless and from the title reminded me of an anime called Assassin Pride who knows it's very strange and has no plot, I almost didn't watch it until the end

and when I read the manga what I found was something really, really disgusting I don't understand why the mangaka drew it like that the figure of an old man and reincarnated into a very handsome and cute shota that's why I jumped over him many times and didn't really pay attention to the story and arrived at the part lugh disguised himself as a merchant and it felt even weirder so I didn't continue reading it and when the anime came out what I thought was is this the best killer in the world? What is there to be proud of in a mu*derer? I really reproached it and almost didn't watch it but when I watched the first episode wow this is very exciting then the second episode wow this is very interesting it looks so beautiful especially when interacting with its mother who is very colorful and so cheerful then the third episode hmm this is a very beautiful loli and very cute and so on and so on every episode is very interesting even though there are parts that make me feel frustrated and give me a headache this is a very extraordinary anime especially the colorful animation and the bgm which is very good because the feel is very fantasy classic and vintage I believe this is a very good composer expensive once I finished with the anime I decided to reread the manga and read it seriously then move on to the novel because I was curious about the mystery about lugh's brother but in the end I didn't get anything about it and the most annoying thing is this 2nd volume irritates me just the plot of this school life becomes very cliché and like a pile of garbage especially there are some plots that I found were plots that made me feel frustrated when a handsome noble who waved and blinked at lugh readers like me can understand the point but here lugh is made to be someone who is blunt though in volume one lugh is a genius who is very sharp and understands many things but in volume two lugh is made like an idiot who wonders why he is being approached by a handsome aristocrat even though he is a baron? It's pretty obvious that the bunch of kids there are people looking for connections and partners but lugh is an idiot who doesn't know that and oddly enough even though lugh is warned to stay away from these people lugh instead befriends that damn handsome aristocrat and let his girls be taken to the cafe by him wow I'm surprised lugh acts like that I wonder what the author really thought to make lugh be like that why did the story lead to such an area

even worse lugh as an assassin who should be sneaking around and observing a hero instead lugh who is finally observed by the hero at the end of the volume lugh shows all his weapons and all his killing techniques to the hero who pretends to be weak and helpless but see the hero finally hits the devil that and died in one hit how could a genius like lugh be like that?

so basically this is a very good story but only the romance part is the part where lugh falls in love and it's not like other tr*sh harem stories it's not like that it really hits the feeling and I really like the part where dia misses lugh until he doesn't eat

this is a very inconsistent story at first MC is described as a genius who can do anything has so much knowledge and is very sharp but then in the second volume MC becomes an idiot who doesn't even realize the simplest things about how someone approaches him just to get close to his sister it's very clear but MC is made to not know that and be naive the author is really bad I don't understand what the author is really thinking very annoying <<less

It's entertaining. It's not particularly good, but it's certainly not unreadable (except for the IsaacTranslations part, definitely read the manga for the beginning). MC uses magic and plot to make guns, and then builds a harem while going around being OP and having plot armor. Overall not particularly special in a good or bad way, go ahead and start with the manga and you'll know if it's something you like.

One of the better isekai novels out there where the MC actually develops his skills over time. Ticks all the usual boxes, OP skills - check, Harem - check, Advanced knowledge of science and civilization from earth - check.

MC dies while trying to retire from his old job, gets roped in by a goddess and press ganged into doing the same job in the new world with a time limit. Gets his pick of skills rather than them being randomly assigned and gets given a top tier new body.

Where this... more>> one suffers is the frequent switching of translators and editors. Quality changes frequently, names of important people and places change here and there. There have been significant time gaps between new translators picking it up and the last translator has not published a chapter in almost 4 months now so who knows when/if someone else will pick this up. <<less
