“The heck are you? A peeper?”

“Would it be possible for you to spare me a cup of water?”

This conversation that was obviously mismatched at a glance, was the meeting between the Japanese company employee, Tamano Izumi, and the one who would later be known as the Sacred Kingdom of Yohk’Zai’s strongest and greatest king, Huuron.

While she was in the middle of a bath, the bathroom window connected to a mysterious world. Izumi was just enjoying her baths while she bartered things with the various people that appeared beyond the window, but before long, she ended up deeply affecting the fate of that world…

Bathroom Goddess is an absolutely brilliant, original literary work of art. The progression of an entire alternate world's politics and destiny is guided by an office woman (who loves baths) connecting the fates of kings, heroes, lovers, and villains through her bathroom window. NANI?

Bathroom Goddess was one of the first LNs I ever read and actually finished, so this LN will always have a special place in my heart! My review will definitely have shades of viewing it with rose-tinted glasses, but nonetheless I'll try to give an objective review.

One of the things I appreciated about Bathroom Goddess was the MCs age. We get a lot of teenage protags who have larger than life missions with high stakes, and as much as I love those kind of novels, it can get pretty tiring... more>> after a while. So having a level-headed and adult protagonist like Izumi was a very refreshing change of pace.

Another thing I love about this was that the translations are very good. It flows smoothly and isn't that awkward in places. One of my biggest peeves in reading translated novels is that TLs usually try too hard to structure the translations the way the original jp text was written; creating a very awkward flow of sentences that frankly doesn't sound like someone would actually say IRL. I know there's a lot of arguments about how translations should be handled. But frankly, readability is also as important as faithfulness to the source material and the translation of BG was very decently done. <<less

A neat story that is a good read as long as you are looking for some casual travel reading or something.

A simple story that shows us the interactions of an extremely helpful who doesn't seem to mind the constant disturbing of her bath as she interactions with seemingly random characters from another world.

However, all these characters are very well detailed in limited time, and the plot pulls everything together in a splendid manner towards the end. There is some good humor around, mostly ecchi style.

There could be another meaning behind... more>> this story: All the story was just her dreaming as she falls asleep repeatedly during baths. It is farfetched, but it is possible.

The game element thingy with her getting an exchange of items for every interaction she has, actually keeps you quite interested. As I said, it is quite a good fun read.

But, why only 4/5? First, for a novel of this type, I wish that the author would have worked a good/decent romance in this story. The potential was too high. And the ending, while good for a casual read, should have been quite a lot better considering the web that the plot had already spread.

The foreshadowing is good for a 20 chapter series... Seriously, the only reason I took 1 star away is because it could have been better;not because it is bad.

It is Mango approved, but only as a casual read to pass time during the holidays or something. The length is quite good.

PS: The character/personality development of the female protag... is good. It is not too much unfortunately. But very well handled. o7 <<less

A really good "short" story. Not really any romance, but a somewhat open enough ending that you could imagine it for the characters. I don't know what the short stories have to offer in terms of that beyond what's already been translated.

The story somewhat speedily develops through each chapter, with each chapter connecting to the next. As another review stated, I suppose the only disappointment is that you don't see many of the previous characters directly beyond one. You only hear of them out of the stage, or through another... more>> character.

It's still really good though. Worth the read! <<less

This was so good. I picked it up and didn't put it down until I finished it.

Great translation. Amazing plot. Tantalizing and surprising to the very end and the comedy was sublime.

The only complaint I have is that I wished there was more to this story. It ended quite nicely but I feel so sad there wasn't more...

Review as of chapter 14.

Definitely a unique spin on the classic trading quest. Izumi saves lives, helps heroes, shapes the destiny of empires, smooths the path of star-crossed lovers and possibly comes to terms with her inner exhibitionist, all from the comfort of her bathtub. The story is episodic and each self-contained story is presented through a set of two directly connected chapters. As the story unfolds however, it becomes obvious that most, if not all, of these episodes are also connected to each other and that things are moving... more>> and coming together in that wide world on the other side of Izumi’s bathroom window.

Izumi, the bath-loving, down-to-earth and surprisingly adaptable protagonist, is utterly delightful. The varied and colourful characters she meets are vividly depicted in short, almost thumbnail sketches that manage to give them enough depth to make them a lot more endearing than you might expect from the story’s trade-of-the-week format.

The objects Izumi receives and trades are equally varied, often outlandish and occasionally put to genuinely unexpected uses. There’s something very fairy-tale-like about the whole thing. While the various stories are in turn dramatic, touching and sad, they are all honestly funny. As an added bonus, the translation is smooth and beautifully written. There’s nothing quite like a chapter of The Bathroom Goddess to brighten up a dull day. <<less

What will happen when suddenly your bathroom window connects to another world? And it always happens when you in the middle of taking a bath? If it's me, I'm gonna freaking out, but not for our FL. She rather faces this bizzare occurance calmly although when that happens she's often n***d (she's taking a bath, what do you expect?)

The window connects to many countries in another world. Each times, she meet a different person. But somehow, they are connected to each other. Unconsciously, she changes their fates along the... more>> way.

The story surely has an interesting plot. Every characters have their own charm and make the story livelier. Sadly, the story is lack romance. That's why I only give 4 stars.

Spoiler

I wanna see more of FL and Karasu. They have potential to be an interesting couple.

A story completely begin, progress and resolve inside the MC's bathroom.

The many encounter each with only a bit information all link from one to another and turn this into a complete story.

A really good read and short enough to give you a meaningful ride :)

What really separate this novel from the others is the way it was written. The way the author connected each character's own story to weave the whole story was really amazing. You know, those nice story with a little foreshadowing here and there well placed to make them all having sense at the end when everything cl**ked together ? Well this story is pretty much that, from start to finish, everything's connected. It's only when you read the very last chapter that you start to think about all those little details here and there and being in awe ^^

long story short, it's funny with our female MC being naked or almost for the whole length of this novel but the story is nonetheless really interesting and deep sometimes. If you want a nice surprise, try this.

PS: beware though, I found the author's way to write this is interesting but half of the chapters will begin with what seems to be the prologue of a new story so you'll get the feeling that the story is different each time until our MC appears so get ready to get that feeling of starting a new story a lot before reading~~

It's not a perfect novel, there's a lot more the author could have done, but it's a solid read :) <<less

Jesus it's so good. B-but where did my day off go?!?

Seriously though it's a well-written and well-translated little story that will make you smile and cringe and tug at the heart-strings a bit before wrapping itself up beautifully and completely. It's nice to read something so self-contained once in a while compared to endless web-serial type stories.

Even though it's short, it's a simple and cool story. The concept is interesting, and I've never seen an idea like this before. It's cool to read through and see how it all comes full circle in the end. The characters were lovable, and the misunderstandings hilarious.
Spoiler

The twist ending about the first guy she meets was a bit confusing since I couldn't get the names straight, but it wasn't bad enough to take major note of.

the story is mixed of fun and sad moments... there are some action and love stories as well... the protagonist meets people from another world by her bathroom and changes items with them... the awkward moment of the protagonist is pretty hilarious and the misunderstanding between the protagonist and the people she meets is getting better, lol. the protagonist has interesting personality and people she meets are quite unique and interesting, in a way. recommended if you want some heartwarming stories here...

A throughly enjoyable read. Good balance of whimsical and serious. Characters are relatable and the plot connecting the separate snippets together is without holes. The episodic nature let’s one enjoy each chapter by itself, making it very suitable for a casual read while the more serious undertones make the story more engaging than most other casual reads. The story itself is, as far as I can tell, refreshingly unique.

I love this novel! It is light hearted and fun. I normally dislike stories with multiple POV, but the multiple POVs are integral to the plot

I highly recommend this novel

Very creative. The narrative framing device is oddly superb. The transaction mechanic is at once mystical and earthly. You can read the MC as a human player of a choose-your-own-adventure game. The metatext is very engaging.

Just: is her skin pale or honey-like? The tl is inconsistent. I’d rather the latter (and it would make more sense). Too many MCs with sickly complexions around these parts...

3.5/5 What an absurd story. Honestly though I really liked the idea behind the plot. Very.... unique.

A short story that was quite intriguing, that's how I'll describe this novel. However Idk why there is so many 5 star reviews. Try as I might, I dislike ec*** quite a lot. Didn't like the fact that any one of them can easily enter the modern world through the window and as most of them are stronger than the FL, they can easily enter the modern world. What I'm trying to say... more>> is MC's "secret" is very thinly veiled.

I came for the uniqueness of the plot with a FMC (which is very rare). Stayed to finish the novel only because it was very short. <<less

Very bizzare story, yet I enjoyed it very much; It's like Baccano but in novel form instead of anime. The plots are chaotic but at the end of the day it is solved by itself, with Bathroom Goddess' help of course.
