I was reincarnated into the otome game I had played in my previous life.

Ophelia, a beautiful female protagonist like a goddess, is loved by numerous nobles while Emilia, the character I reincarnated as, has a supporting role of a villain and she follows around the male leads after Ophelia’s death, only to be destroyed by them.

A few years after Ophelia dies due to an incurable disease, the player (default name Elodi) who resembles Ophelia appears.

The male love targets, who were heartbroken from the loss of Ophelia, becomes obsessed with Elodi.

I, who reincarnated into the story and became Emilia, decided to abandon that kind of plot. So, I decided to quietly leave the place I had lived at for 10 years on the day of Ophelia’s funeral.

Nobody expected her to leave, and they were shocked. They kept looking for her, who had disappeared without a single word, but couldn’t find her.

Two years later, an accidental encounter leads them to find her.

I read this a while ago because I stumbled across of the pic from Pinterest. It immediately caught my interest as it was drawn by the same artist who drew "Death is the only ending for the Villainess". It further caught my interest when I learned it's title.

The storyline is interesting. I was confused a first, but then caught on.

There was this girl named Ophelia which a lot of people had loved, but she had real temperamental problems and liked nobody except for MC whom Ophelia treasured dearly. Ophelia was sickly and was destined to die at a young age. Nobody liked MC for various reasons, but the main reason is that she was a low-born person and people thought she was only close with Ophelia in hopes that her father could adopt her as a daughter, since MC lived with Ophelia because she was the only one who could calm her. The second reason was because they were jealous of the MC of her being close to Ophelia.

MC reincarnated and left the house because in the OG game, she was the villainess who "followed the male leads around" not sure what that means. The OG FL named Elodie looked like Ophelia so they all went yandere? But MC went bye and all of them were like ??? And wanted to find her because they literally expected the opposite.

Anyways I'm hoping for more translations, but since the last one was in January, I don't have that much hopes.

[Edit] A new chapter came out and I feel as if I've been liberated <<less

I have many mixed feelings on this novel but I can assuredly say that I love the MC and ophelia. I absolutely loathe all the men besides the ML because they treated emilia like total garbage & ophelia like an object when she was alive. The guy emilia ends up with is ok but I honestly feel sad that she loved ophelia so much yet didn't get to be with her instead but I guess that's the point of tragic romance stories.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so I hope you guys don’t go all rage once you see the review. I’m not a fan of reverse harem, but I’m not trying to disparage people from reading this novel, so people who actually digs this stuff just ignore the stuff I’m going to talk about.

Alright first of all I tried to give this a try as a male reader in order to broaden my perspective after constant pestering by my friend. Yea basically I was scammed to read this. Now... more>> I might get quite preachy about this so called “REVERSE HAREM” genre. Personally I would have liked if there is a fixed pairing with a stronger connection from the get go instead of MC being put in a reverse harem situation.

Plot wise I would say the beginning felt quite cliche-esque, also the characters were a bit stale, but at the end of the day I dropped this around chapter 20, so definitely this review won’t be helpful. I would suggest you try a few chapters and see for yourself, whether you want to continue or not. As for those who are not fan of the genre, I highly recommend you guys to stay away from this. <<less

Dude I hate how the author did Ophelia.. Like ... more>>
Spoiler

We're told that she's loved and everyone doted on her and loved her when in reality it wasn't love.. They only idolized and pitied her. Why do you think they moved on so fast and to Ellodi? They didn't care about Ophelia's feelings and personality, they only cared about her looks. They didn't see her as a person, but as a beautiful, pitiful object. It sucks as hell that we find out that the only person that truly loved Ophelia was Emilia. Not her parents, not any of the MLs, no. Only Emilia. And then how dare they f*cking let Ellodi go into her room and touch her stuff but not Emilia's? God, I feel so bad for Ophelia. Not only was she sick, but she also died, was replaced, and wasn't truly loved. I just wanna give her a hug..

I love Ophelia's character sm. She's my fav character in the whole thing and I love the novel, I just wish Ophelia wasn't more so unfortunate than she already was.. <<less

I love the story, but I have mixed feelings about the ending. The person the FL ends up with is kinda generic. I would've liked it better if she didn't end up with anyone and just traveled the world with the other characters or possibly on her own. The relationship between FL and Ophelia is amazingly done. Though, that is really all to it. The main ML doesn't stand out much. The other MLs are not too appealing either. If there was a change that would've made the story better... more>> is having one of the MLs actually care about Ophelia after her death. Someone who is affected by FL's disappearance that they too finally started seeing Ophelia as a person. That's just me though, as long as the relationship between FL and the ML makes sense. My feelings would've been less mixed. <<less

Hello. This is my first review, so it might not be a standard one and might be a bit chaotic. Apologies ahead of time, if so.

I am currently reading the manhwa until chapter 52 and I am happy to have started the story. The characters are amazingly built and the conflicts about their identities and developed complexities have left me reeling. I admire the realistic presentation that not only goes to personal level, where the identity conflicts are very well presented, but also to their social context and behavior based... more>> on the built identities.

I have rarely, if never, encountered so well explained realistic social situations. I feel, as if in every situation, the author uses the situation not only to drive the story, but develop the character and pose the question to the reader. The story is not told for the sake of telling a story, but it is told to make you question your own behavior, belief towards yourself and others and perhaps even help you grow out of some social situations, where one might feel ineptitude.

For example
Spoiler

Elodie's Tea-Party - Elodie's feelings, as if she is a puppet, are internalized, but also are properly presented in the social situation, where it seems that she lacks strength of character and agrees with the opinion of the others. She feels, as if she has no choice but agree with what others are thinking even when she does not actually share the opinion (for how despicable Emilia is, how she does not know her place; for example).

The author also makes it so, that just before that moment Emilia questions if Elodie actually has the freedom and the ability to express her own opinions without suffering consequences. The questions is posed in entirely different situation and to a different character.

But later, when Elodie is placed in such situation (her won teaparty), the reader can actually follow through the reasoning behind such weak behavior and the sadness of it. It is not a matter of criticizing the character for the weakness, but getting into the depth of it and understanding it. The author is not very forgiving, too. Explaining a weakness and sympathizing with it is not making it acceptable. I believe the point here is not so much to be judgmental - who is right wrong, good or bad, but how to grow out of it; how to be better. The author presents in the same situation alternative via Dorothy, the maid, - she has so much more to lose, but she does not hesitate to defend her point of view and beliefs. Moreover, even her social status is far lower than the people she faces. Even Emilia - who is not in that scene at all, leaves a shadow as if an acting participant, with her strength as an alternative.

Yet, the ladies at the party were right - it is not the job of the maid to correct them, but Elodie's.

It is amazing in this scene that despite the conflict to be led by the side characters, their malice, jealousy, hope and longing for missed opportunities, search of acceptance and also humanity is presented in depth without being excessive about it or sharing too little.

Moreover, it also begs the questions: Have you ever been in situation, where your voice has been silenced? Have you chosen to speak up and have you suffered consequences? Have you ever been in a situation, where you have been used as a weapon against someone else? Have you actually done to someone else something like this? Have you actually even questioned it, when it happened? Have you felt pressured to respond the social norm instead of standing your ground? Can you admit that sometimes you are coward and you have not stood up to your beliefs and sometimes you have been brave? In which situations has your bravery came from the support of others? Have you lived in someone else's shadow? Has your bravery cost you if not all, some of your friends?

I admire the way the author has presented those topics and the skill s/he had used.

[collapse]

To be fair I would have read the story even if the art was ugly, badly translated or incomplete. I am thankful that neither of those are true. Had I had the opportunity I would have also written a thank you note to the author. I am truly bowing to the skill s/he used to tell this story. I appreciate it and I am lucky to have had the opportunity to find it. Thank you! <<less
