Look I'll I'm going to say is screw the haters what they say about Al the protagonist is all a bunch of BS they just want things out of a story that they read in other JP novels. Though I do have to say that while the novel is slow paced it's a slice of life novel it's what it's supposed to be, not a massive "oh I'm gonna kill you or go on a huge adventure novel" its slice of life! The novels consistant with its characters and moves... more>> along at a moderate pace my God it's in the title as well it doesn't say reincarnated with cheats and dominate the world the title is, " I Want to Live a Slow Life in the Countryside After Reincarnation" emphasizing on "Slow life" The novel is good, haters are just hating. People the story is consistant! The translation is phenomenal I've hardly seen translations as good as this in other JP and CP novels so take it from me while the commentators do bring up some valid points. I feel like they're self inserting themselves into Al saying things along the lines of "oh if it was me I would have beaten the sh*t out of miss so and so", or "Ah if I had reincarnated I would have done this and that" They just want things to happen the way want it. So please enough with the comments of abuse this abuse that, its slap stick comedy, it's a normal thing so stop being social justice warriors and just read and enjoy the novel for what it is. <<less

Read the first 30 or so chapters, then MTL’d the rest. This is probably (alongside “Life With a Sister”) the most underrated somewhat realistic isekais, if you just read the reviews.

Most reincarnated characters are hellbent on fighting or something like that; this novel is not like these ones. Do not expect fighting every ten chapters; this is a “slow life” in the truest sense.

Story:8/10

I think the beginning of this story are the most sporadic in the series. When I reread this story, I definitely skip the most after
... more>>
Spoiler

After the first trip to the royal capital and before the Kagura vacation, and after the vacation until Elinora comes back from training with the knights in the royal capital.

[collapse]

After this, I think the author really solidified their ideas in the series, and the quality improved significantly overall. A lot of the reviews are talking about lack of plot development, but the story steadily develops over the 500+ existing chapters. This is a slow story, and as of this review, not even 150 chapters have been translated. The highlights are the relationship between Alfred and his family. Alfred is a powerhouse that could probably stalemate anyone even if he can’t defeat them with his magic. He could easily solve any of his fighting problems with magic, but chooses not to for fear of getting found out. Alfred’s inner monologue with himself shows that he may have suffered a regression when he became a child, but as readers that know he is also unimaginably lazy, we are not given a definite answer to what extent his thought process has been effected. His family and friends obviously can’t understand his aversion to work, as they don’t know he reincarnated. This, coupled with the slapstick comedy, leaves an overall enjoyable slowlife where we steadily learn about Alfleet and the world as they are pulled around by it.

Combat:9/10

I think this is the most shocking element of the story. I think the author has amazing focus and is very gifted at narrating combat. It makes me so sad that the author chooses not to write more combat into the story, but learning about the world instead is a necessary part of the story as well. I like to describe poor fighting descriptions as a fight where either side is completely beating each other up, and it switches up throughout the fight. Imagine some early dragon ball fights where Goku gets beat up unilaterally until they become Super Sayan. Don’t get me wrong, some fights are unilaterally lost in the series; it just isn’t realistic that the side getting beat up would switch up so many times in one fight. I’m also not hating on novels that do this; I just think trying to narrate combat without doing this is more refreshing. Al, who is committed to being lazy, almost always avoids putting in more effort than he did initially, so fights are usually consistent and have some entertaining tactics along with them. The worst part of combat is the lack of it.

World-building: 7/10

This world is very well-described. I think every person who reads up until the end of the story will not be lacking details in how magic works in this world, how Alfred builds his magic, and how he does things. Rarely, details are omitted the first time and elaborated later. The author sometimes revises their chapters to include more details for their readers. This helps with understanding the world. The elephant in the room is that the world isn’t very interesting at all. It’s so uninteresting that I’m wondering if the descriptions of the world are filtered through Al’s eternally bored persona and regurgitated to the reader in an emotionless state. I wouldn’t mind if that’s the case, but all “fun” places in the series are purposefully left ambiguous, and new places arerarely introduced. Alfred’s use of space magic is more of a restriction to the author than a plot point considering how little Alfred can use it out of fear of being caught to explore the world around him.

Relationships:9/10

If the world were the most boring part of the series, than the relationships are the saviour of it. Relationship development is the crux of the work. Without good relationship development, the world would be unbearable. The humour, growth and bonding between the characters is mostly realistic and a fun part of the series. I can’t describe how many times I thought a chapter would be boring (this work was basically my starting point into non-fighting focused isekais). The humour can be vulgar or leave you feeling uncomfortable, but if you can get past one or two jokes in bad taste (which have been removed from the manga version) the humour is pretty good.

Overall rating:8/10

I made an account to post this review. I’m not sure how helpful this is to other readers, but this novel gets better as you read more chaoters, and we haven’t even gotten to the good part in the translation yet. I would ask you to wait until chapter 200-300 is released to update your review, but most novels don’t get reviewed that late into reading, so I can understand why people won’t do that. If you’re wondering at chapter 100 if it gets better than now, I can tell you it gets much better. If you’re at chapter 200-300+ and saying the same thing, chances are you won’t like the novel very much. <<less

A lot of reviewers here can't seem to understand that the story is a COMEDY based around the MC trying to have a slow life, but always getting caught in trouble. Yes, he gets teased a lot, and he's OP so he could stop it at any time. But, the teasing is part of the joke. Read a few chapters and see if you find the gag funny before writing this one off.

Awesome!

If you are a fan of slow life stories and know what it means then this story is for you. Its so hard to find slow life stories. There are not many who stick to their settings. I read around 800 novels and currently I am only aware of 5 novels that didnt turn into harem/ world conflict/ demon king/ city founding genre midways.

I am fine with plottwists but I dont like it when they start off as slow life and drop the genre halfway through for the rest of... more>> the story.

BTT: This story focuses alot on interactions. I read a few bad things about the interactions and came to realize that those people are eather heavy action oriented or simply lack the necessary experiences. I grew up with 3 brothers and 20 kids around my age. I can relate to those moments. Even the "annoying" sister. My guess is that the author specifically made her that way because he had a friend of that kind. My oldest brother was like that. He forced us to do many things "just because he had to do it too" :D Really unreasonable but thats life. Older siblings get to push you around abit. Thats their privilege as siblings.

The abuse:
People seriously suffer from delusions. That has nothing to do with abuse. Thats childhood. How many bruises we had back then while playing around. We even threw big rocks around until one of us got hit and we learned it the hard way. I broke my bones 4 times by accident/ s*upidity and didnt die from it. Kids have to do some limit testing otherwise they turn out to be NPC´s (input = output without diversity).

No abuse happened. Maybe the soldiers inspection could be viewed as a conflicting situation but thats it.

Downside: The food focus. I am a bit fed up with rice obsession and soy sauce hunting but thats their lifestyle and focus. We read about steaks and stuff too. The thing I am annoyed by is the density/ frequency. There are so many chapters focused on food that you can easily say its a quarter of the story. around 150 chapter at the least. (maybe a slight exageration but not by a large margin)

Overall a heartwarming story with a MC as ordinary as gets. Some say he is s*upid but thats because the other novels portrait their MC in a way that you get delusional. In reallife we are not super smart, we dont have photgraphic memory, cant recall "basics" from anything we ever read/ heard off. The MC is on a regular human being level. No h**ny, no surreal idealism, no MC-arrogance, no narcissism, no machiavelism and obviously no template villain type "humans" (They really make no sense and you would never meet such apes in reallife. Not even in china or ohio... maybe in australia where you can find real primates) <<less

One of the best slice of life novels set in a fantasy world that I've ever read. I really enjoyed MC's journey to live comfortably and peacefully in the countryside. MC is actually quite OP even if he wants to, he can defeat the legendary magician from Lazur land.

However, MC's goal in life is to enjoy a peaceful and comfortable life in the countryside. It's not strange considering that MC is a former company s*ave who spent his life working before finally dying and reincarnating in another world.

MC's life story... more>> is colored by his relationship with his family, friends, colleagues and his interactions with the people around him. It becomes a comedy in this story. For example how his older sister keeps forcing the MC to play and practice swordsmanship considering that his older sister is a tsundere brocon type.

When I read this novel, I was reminded of my childhood with my family and friends. MC is currently 7 to 8 years old, where he is the youngest of 3 siblings. He has an older sister who gets along well with the MC but also constantly annoys the MC. MC also has a kind-hearted older brother. Incidentally I am also the third child in my family like MC. So I can quite empathize with how the interactions between the MC, his sister and brother are so realistic and intimate.

In general, MC's life story focuses on how he can enjoy a relaxed, comfortable and peaceful life in his life with his family and friends. I think the premise of the story is closer to that of a popular novel like Slime Taoshite 300-nen.

I recommend this novel for anyone who likes slice of life novels set in a fantasy world with a family theme. Not recommended for fans of isekai harems that are generally circulating today. <<less

I like this series, to those that say its unrealistic etc. I just have to ask you, Why are you reading an isekai fantasy novel and expecting a realistic story? Read novels with "Modern Day" tags if your looking for realism now to my rating.

This novel for me deserves a 4.0 star score just basing on the story being true to it's themes. Looking at the tags, genre's and even the synopsis the overall theme of the story is quite obvious.

To start this off World Building, giving the slow pacing... more>> the story has which was obvious from the start, the world building was not really focused on much. But as the story goes on and the MC gets more freedom we can see more of the world and it's decent to say the least.

But now we focus on the best part of this novel, the plot, which I would rate quite high since this is to be honest the best part of this novel. First, we don't have s*upid actions done by the MC which has zero consequences, every action has a definite reaction and certain things even the smallest mistake is used by the author logically. What I'm saying here is that we won't see any BS where the MC causally does something amazing and no one cares how and why he did it. Those who read the story read the spoiler-

Spoiler

So you may wonder how about his inventions etc. How can no one see errors in his actions you may ask? For one if you actually read a bit of the story you would know that the MC unconsciously created an image which helps him in that department. He learned to read quickly and loved reading books, he played with magic and did a lot of unconventional things. Moreover! He lives in a family where both his parents are geniuses on their own right, Nord is a genius swordsman whose skill will be elaborated further on in the story, same is true for his mother Elna.

Now there are hints of suspicion but whether or not they ignore it, we don't actually know, mind you the story is told in a 1st person perspective, by the MC and we do get some other perspectives but those are few and far between.

Overall the whole scenario and events are well planned and very well executed for a web novel

[collapse]

Now onto the second best part about the story, the character interactions. Is it good? Yes, are they cardboard cut-outs? No. To elaborate, the characters seem like cardboard cutouts but that's because we only see in the perspective of the MC. Yes, some characters have a them going on with their own characters but they do have character growth and if you read between the lines and don't always take the MC's words for it you will see this character development which is honestly well done by the author. Those who complain about certain characters look at the spoiler.

Spoiler

Now Eleanora, the MC's older sister, some paint her as only a bully, but remember when the MC pointed out how the girl could cut a stone in half with wooden sword? How her ability is so monstrous and deadly? Well then if she really was just an abusive b*tch why is the MC only left with muscle pain after their training and not with broken bones? The answer is simple, the MC is exaggerating since he's lazy, he was "forced" to train but even the most spoiled children were probably dragged out of their rooms to play outside instead of roblox.

Come one people, the MC is basically a child until even chapter 539, even teens are forced out of their mothers bas**ents from time to time to get some fresh air much less a growing child.

And before anyone speak about child abuse, let me remind you, the MC never had any dangerous life threatening injury. The worse he got were bruises, most of the bad people talk about were the training episodes but I again emphasize, the MC's body never really got damaged all that much! It's the MC's exaggerations, if they really beat him up with ill intent then the MC should be waking up with a cast instead of with a fake, "Muscle pain~" statement.

Also why is everyone talking about the MC being "threatened" by the adults into training? I believe everyone at some point was "threatened" by their parents or family members through their fears such as the doctor, the dentist, being grounded whatever the child fears. The MC is basically just being threatened through what he fears the most which in his case is physical activities!

Moreover the other characters, Elna, is considered a fully developed character being the parent, so is with all the adults. Most character developments occur with the younger children and that development would not be fast and instead slow! Look here the story truly started when the MC was age 6 and now we're at 539 and he's still 7. No major conflict or anything occurred just a kid doing kid things with his family. If you expect a smiling kid or anyone near him to change in one year where nothing substantial happened then you're either inexperienced or too into dark and edgy stories which this one is not

[collapse]

Now finally the last thing to look at is the theme, this novel has a lighthearted, slow, slice of life theme. It's literally the story of an overworked office worker reborn, probably with age regression, hinted even at the start of the series by the God and many other aspects which I won't elaborate on, find it yourself or read for real and not just skimming through pages trying to finish 100 chapters in1 day. Skimming pages reading hundreds of chapters per day makes you ignore other details except for cliché's and the like.

Overall if you are someone wanting to waste time this is a nice slow read, if you are someone wanting to waste time but don't have the time to and just want to make your mind wander off this is not the story for you. This is the story which you read and enjoy with a relaxed mind.

P.S. Read a novel for what it's worth, everything about this novel screams slow life with no action, why come here expecting some epic adventure? Slow life is literally on the title, and I said this before but I'll say this again. The story doesn't go over some big war or change in life, there's no big baddie, devil king or evil god for the MC to defeat. God literally shoved him into a peaceful life. If you want a story with epic developments and all that fun stuff read something that does not say "I want to Live a SLOW LIFE".

Tip: Look for stories with Evil in the name, drama in the tag or psychological if you want something exiting. Honestly, I don't know whether people are dumb to expect big action and epic character development in a slow life <<less

An advice, treat this novel as gag slice of life manga, honestly this novel better as manga since it doesn't really need to explain everything. When it become a novel, it will show many plotholes, which doesn't bother me in manga version

MC grow slowly? Dude non non biyori exist for 11 year and it still count as 1 year in story

MC got bullied by sister? Women become scary cuz of sweet? Well yeah it is kinda old joke so I understand if most people don't like it but, as I... more>> said, if you treat it as gag novel, it is just like a break between story like goda takeshi in doraemon bullying nobita (well it is different if you treat that like real life, which is many people hate that, I hate bullying but it is different if it in story, I separate story and real life)

Well it is an easy to read gag novel which has isekai as setting, not like usual school or neighborhood, so if you wanna see stereotype op MC isekai become a god, don't read this <<less

After reading up to chapter 340, all I can say is, I like this.
Why I like this? This novel was written with a reasonable main character who are supposed to be an office s*ave (salaryman) getting reincarnated in other world. Why do I say reasonable? Because I can see myself in him, I am also an office s*ave, endless paper everyday, 10+ hours per day, even getting called from time to time during Sunday.

What if I died and getting reincarnated in a countryside with the ability to... more>> do magic? I will do nothing but just live in comfort until the end of time, I just want to rest.

This novel shouldn't be recommended to Children, Students or people bellow the age of 30 who haven't taste the bitterness of being a wage s*ave. They wouldn't understand, all they care is wish fulfillment heroes who are all powerful, omniscient, harem gathering scumbags, for people who are dead tired from works, reading a novel with main character playing power, or chasing power, or showing his power, or have to deal with women problem, or getting chased by other people for good or bad reason is just unpleasant. WE JUST WANT TO REST. <<less

Listen, this novels MC is a freaking wet blanket. All of the females around him regularly beat him for such valid and well justified reasons like their womanly instincts telling them that he was thinking things that they didn't like. Attempted mu*der for accidentally seeing panties. While the main offenders are girls everyone else also treats him like garbage. He gets mol*sted by the guards in front of his father and neither of them do anything. This character accepts unjustified beatings, mu*der attempts, slander, robbery of personal posesiones, and many... more>> many other things any reasonable human being wouldn't put up with or watch happen to people close to them without doing something. This has passed the realm of slapstick and gone straight into abuse territory. I don't know about you but I don't want to read a novel about someone who has grown accustomed and become normalized to abuse from getting his soul crushed by overwork getting abused further by his new family. It would be one thing if the author was trying to make a statement about abuse but they are not. This is played for laughs? I think? I assume so but it is really the furthest thing from funny. Abuse is not a joke. Mol*sting children is not a joke. Fathers watching their children get mol*sted and doing nothing is the furthest thing from funny. People hitting children because they might have been thinking something rude is not funny. Dropping this novel. Don't bother trying it out yourself. <<less

A generic "slow life" isekai novel... with lots of parts I would like to complain about.
> Another Pushover MC.
> Even the family members think of him as "Convenient".
> Appearance is totes different from the rest of the family which makes me question if he's not related at all (which would explain the treatment he's getting lol).
> Not sure if you would call that a tsundere sister, more like a bully and trying to cover up with "she still cares".
> Kagura arc is blatant plug.
>... more>> Not isekai anymore innit, when you just plug the Japanese culture like that, could have been atleast more creative.

And the foreseeable future would be him still getting abused and not much progress... no character development or anything of that sort. it's like putting slowlife to cover up obvious flaws in this story. Definitely not enjoyable as Novel... can go in reading the manga with brain turned off I suppose.

This might sound like me complaining but this is what it is... I fail to see any good parts so far (and I think it will be the same). Just another Novel to read to kill time or when you seriously have nothing else to read or anything productive to do. To people who rate it 5 star... I wonder if we are reading the same novel or that you have read so many tr*sh novels that it doesnt faze you anymore (or you're clueless to what a good Novel is). <<less

What I hate from this novel is.... Foood and the glorified Japanese culture with a long ass chapter, it about +-15 chapter only talk about onsen, japan food, japan clothing, how to use chopsticks, ect about japan. Man... I'm here for the story not for the food sh*t or whatever.

It's a slow life, so don't expect action... But the story is interesting, except for the food talk and over used japan culture. I don't hate culture but... Do it is need about +-15 chapter only for that? Waste of time.

Overall impression "mediocre slice of life fantasy"..

If you are looking for exciting isekai life then you better look elsewhere..

The story really is just random everyday life with just a touch of fantasy/magic, there are no exciting battles or adventures.. Heck as of ch501 the MC is still around 8 years old,

This story really is just a slow life in the countryside, expect harvesting vegetables, fishing, just talking with bad friends, complaining about the hot/cold weather, lazing around the house, & other common stuffs like that.. Of course being an... more>> isekai there is also the isekai japan country, reproducing modern foods & toys, the cliches..

As for the rankings in strength the MC isn't really strong, it's just his magic being way too convenient that people assume he is strong, he isn't even training properly so it is to be expected that with the condition of not killing, in his family maybe only the older brother is weaker than him..

This is probably a good read if your reading a chapter a day because chapters aren't really that long and there are no actual plot other than making life more relaxing,

[edit] as of chapter c535 11/08/21

I've read some of the reviews & I just can't understand why some are so over reacting and saying MC is being bullied & a s*ave. Maybe it's because our upbringing is too different. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse & some other kids show, so maybe I'm a little insensitive to comedy where characters are getting blown up, punched, bitten, abused a little, etc.. If you can't handle kids show like that maybe you won't like this novel as you can't probably handle MC getting hurt for comedic purposes. <<less

My favourite novel and I've read a sh*t tonne of novels from this sight.

The MC has same personality as me so very relatable. (Interestingly the family dynamic is not too dissimilar either, with terminator like sister, and brother also quite similar to mine.).

Basically if you're looking for a protagonist which doesn't like the idea of killing stuff, and actually wants to live a peaceful calm life while focusing on the parts of life which matter.

... more>> Then you'll like this.

If you're looking for a novel where the protag likes to throw his d*ck around in a black and white world taking s*upid risks and always doing things the hard way instead of talking it out or running away while never getting punished for their lack of foresight. Then look elsewhere.

Fighting is never the answer unless you want to cause more problems. An eye for an eye makes the world blind. You can't force someone to change only force them to be afraid. Change requires lenience and patience, sure you could level kingdoms and destroy monsters with magic, but ultimately this serves to do nothing but landscaping, the underlying issue's of the world are unshaken. They are still unable to defend themselves, a kingdoms philosophies will live on within the hearts of it's people and within it's legacy. Also there are consequences for all actions, a damaged eco system, a shattered government, destabilised society. Are you really doing these things it help others? Or is it to serve a fragile ego.

Went a bit off topic I guess for a sec, anyway I really like this story and characters. It's relaxing, the characters have personalities that are more than what they do and say. His magic is flexible but at the same time the MC seems to realise that it doesn't make him invulnerable, it doesn't give him companionship or share in memories it won't make him popular only useful and threatening, and while he trains his magic, he has not lost sight in the world around him. He maintains the correct amount of caution while remembering to have fun when the opportunity presents itself.

It's a slice of life.

Calm, Lazy, Easy going, life.

The whole point of training magic is to make life more convenient and happy and safe, not to start wars or impose wills. <<less

I think author doesn't understand what dark humor means. It's dark humor when it subverts expectations in a hilarious way. Beating up a 6 year old over some embarrassment is not funny at all, but rather triggering. What would be funny would be something like a Chinese MC trying to enter the sect for the first time with his cheat and showing off at the entrance test. While expecting the sect master to come himself and take him in as a disciple, he sees the sect master and his army... more>> of elders running to him armed to the teeth while he suddenly gets a pale face and runs in the opposite direction wondering what he did but not knowing it's because they detected his cheat.

Now that would be dark humor since it's sad for him and the setup is too ridiculous to exist but it's not some kid being tortures. The joke is about child abuse which is relatable in a negative way. <<less

This is really just a four but I'm giving it a five and a review because of the unfair reviews.

1. The story and writing is entertaining for a slice of life fantasy. Not a lot happens but that's expected. I don't really get the people that gave this a bad rating for slow development when it clearly says what it's about in the title and the synopsis. It's like ordering in a restaurant and saying your salad tastes like vegetables.

2. Real family and friends wind each other up all the... more>> time and the older one usually come out on top. Same goes with friendship. A good friend will not be offended when you do something offensive, they'll just hit you back with something more offensive.

TLDR: Just because you don't like slice of life or if the interactions isn't relatable to you doesn't mean it's bad. <<less

In my opinion, this novel is very good in terms of character interactions, humor, and the world building, although there is still much that hasn't been explained yet

If there's anything I have to complain about it's how slow the plot is because even though it has reached c451 only a year or two have passed since the story began

If you look at the lower rated reviews, you'll see how most of them have only reached around chapter 50 at most, while the higher rated reviews have read tons more chapters. This is a novel that grows on you, slowly. A slice of life novel, if you come having any great expectations, you'll be disappointed. The MC is today overpowered, but who cares. That's not a focal point, instead, its his everyday story that is fun. There are some parts I dislike, (like Kaguta) but on the whole,... more>> Id recommend reading 5 chapters every now and then if you want to try it out. <<less

It was pretty bad. The MC is a doormat/punching bag. He's still 7 years old at c55. Almost nothing has happened. There's a difference between slow/slice of life novels and having no story at all.

So after 55 chapters of nothing, they go to the capital and the author decides to throw in some random child mol*station. Really, really f*cking uncomfortable. I'm not reading past this. It's just like a substandard isekai where the MC talks about food non stop and gets bullied by women, then mol*sted by men. F*cking garbage... more>> story. <<less

Every OP cliche of JPN isekaied is here. And this gets me bored to death pretty fast.

Not to mention, did MC has 2 siblings or just one? The sister is used pretty cliche and too much imo that it gets so much tiring in reading her 'simpleton way of showing how affectionate a sister to brother' crap.

People complain about his relationship with his older sister. They probably don't have older siblings...

Story is exactly as the title says. The protagonist *wants* to live a slow life in the country. However, he's a little too, um, unique to succeed at that for the most part. This is a mostly amusing story that you shouldn't expect too much drama or action from. Though there's a surprising amount of action, it's basically not life-or-death. The humor is mainly slapstick like the three stooges or the simpsons, not for everyone.

I'll start... more>> with the problems. All male characters act like elementary students regardless of age. Except for one boy who happens to be around 10 years old. All female characters are domineering. For some reason, the protagonist's father gets upset every time he comes up with a new idea that can make money. Some jokes just don't have any context within the story so it's a ??? every time people sn**ger at the dragonslayer for having an "embarrassing nickname"... he did legitimately kill a dragon, and dragons are rare and dangerous monsters, so killing one is an achievement, so why is it embarrassing? The author never says, and only three people (including the dragonslayer himself and the protagonist) actually consider it embarrassing. A handful of jokes get reused a bit too much, specifically the protagonist's eyes.

On the other hand, it's a fantasy different world so in a way it would be weirder if the culture were exactly like modern Japan. Why can't we have a setting where men are childish and women are domineering?

I would also like to point out that, specifically for the protagonist, he earns all the "abuse" he gets. He has infinite magic potential, he's a creative genius (as far as anyone knows), and he's a lazy smartass who keeps on taunting everyone at every opportunity. If he put in a minimum of effort and didn't make fun of everyone and play pranks all the time, his life would be as easy as he wants. In fact, every other character that frequently gets abused also earns their abuse, there's no "innocent victim" here, only troublemakers who get what's coming to them. It takes a while for the author to really show why people are harsh on the protagonist though.

Unlike most novels, the protagonist is the driving force of this story. He doesn't really react to what's going on around him so much as, there's nothing going on around him so he gets bored and does something, then everyone else reacts to it. Usually it means he cooks something or makes a game/toy for entertainment purposes. Sometimes it means he plays a prank and then whoever he pranked gets even with him. Sometimes he even decides to go on a trip.

Basically, if you don't like it because the protagonist gets abused, look at how the protagonist acts and you'll understand that he's only getting what he deserves. If you still don't get schadenfreude knowing that, you can safely drop it without worries knowing that you're a better person than I. <<less
