I'm not an expert in reading novel, but I really love this one. I really like the MC who ticks all the right checkpoints for me.

1. He is OP.

2. He has good judgement and is intelligent. He is not a pacifist who avoids any needed violence, he is also not like those affection-less MCs who kills or let people get killed for trivial personal reasons.

3. He has OP subordinates who are cool and strong enough to defend and protect themselves and other people without asking for the MCs help everytime... more>> something bad happens. In fact his subordinates are too OP.

4. He is not spineless and weak willed liked most other Isekai MCs out there who just brag about avoiding people in their new world and turns blind eyes to their new worlds affairs when they have the strength to make things right.

5.
Spoiler

He is not without a goal and doesn't act like a tourist in his new world. He connects with people he meets and cherishes them. He makes his goal to protect the people who follow him and builds a nation for them. Now that's a noble goal if not anything else.

In short Rimiru is the ideal leader people wish for. And I appreciate the author for delivering it to his reader. Although the other characters in the novel should've been given more in-character depth, but this is a rushed novel with quick plot development, so maybe that's why it wasn't possible. But overall I really liked it. <<less

This is actually one of my first webnovels. After watching the anime I had to find out what happens next so I searched for the webnovel. I love it so much, I even bought a couple of light novels and I just can't wait to read the rest. The plot is just perfect and the characters are really well developed. The fact he can increase the monsters' powers by naming that I loved and just everything about That time I got reincarnated as a slime. The world-building is awesome and... more>> his gradual increase in powers is really intriguing. He's not like a lot of mc's who gain power instantly and even though he's overpowered it is gradual and each time it increases, you get a lot of satisfaction and fun from it. Anyhow I love this novel and I highly recommended it. <<less

the story is fine. I don’t really like the MC though. But plot-wise it’s OK.

I really like many of the author’s idea, like the labyrinth’s world building.

Another thing, I like the side stories more though. It’s more interesting. (Rimuru went to island with students and Veldora & co went to another world stories)

From the title people will already know what the background of this novel is.

I got interested after watching the anime and since the LN is still incomplete, I decides i'll read the WN first.

The WN is a bit rough on the edges but it conveys the story line really well, if you prefer better conversation lines and side characters building, LN will be the one since some of the events in WN will be happening in the background with a monologue from Rimuru or the writer.

Overall, this is a novel... more>> about a character that got reincarnates into an op existence, at some parts the enemies kept getting stronger out of nowhere, but I can't complain since the world consistently worked that way for both sides.

Battle is nice and the power system, although vague in number, got a structured tier.

The characters are definitely my most favorite part of this novel and watching the anime first gave them better visuals and voice in my head. The MC himself is a 'lord' like existence and often time presented as the final card, so the side characters do get a lot of spotlights.

The villains are also great, not very one dimensional.

Another good part of this novel, which is typical with japanese novels, is the side stories which happened after the ending. Seeing the world going after the big final battle has its own charm.

Overall, solid 4 stars, could be 5 if it has more refinement which I might find in the LN version, maybe one day i'll give that a shot <<less

The story is brilliant loved the character the reason its not 5 star is the same reason for most of the damn novels out there.... MC is a 30 something or 40 something in everyone of them, die a virg*n, goes to diff world, get OP... ect ect.

One would think they might have lil bit of an "ecchi " side to say the very least, given their past... and it fails.. every single time. Soon as they arrive they turn into this jelly covered soy boy beta c*ck who forgets... more>> to even look at women, even in healthy way. Not long after they use any s*xual desire the MC might have as simple comic relief. Why you build an MC on these ground (middle aged looser, virg*n, ect...) send him to a new world have dozens of people worship him and just treat him like someone 9 year old kid? <<less

I really love the manga. I like the anime too which is why I decided to read the novel. It was good but along the way, it became a chore to read???

It never crossed my mind that I'll drop this (I know I'm not even halfway done) but the exciting factor is not there anymore? I'm at the part where they're gonna start the tournament and dungeon making and honestly I find that unnecessary. It's like... it drifted off from what I was expecting? I want to know more about... more>> the demon lords instead.

Tbh I feel like Veldora became a joke. He's always reading manga (where the hell it come from anyway) and I feel like his relationship with Rimuru is... idk it drifted from what I was expecting.

Though I would still like to read the manga cause it portrayed the battles and scenes more better there rather than reading it in mc's pov. <<less

So the only reason I am writing this is beacause this had incredible potential for me and there may still be people who like this but if any of the points from the list below annoys you do not read this:

Spoiler

1. The MC does not learn anything.

2. Keeps behaving like a child (Starting to see why he was a virg*n for 40 years).

3. MC is a hypocrite. He Kills normal soldiers who are just obeying orders from obove and forgives the main ENEMIES (yes I will call them enemies) who had decision making authority and then the author forcefully changes their personality so that they can become a good person.

4. The author seems like he contradicts his writing style because he wants the story to be animated.

5. Most of the characters whom are under the category enemy-turned-friends start out as arrogant people who easily try to kill the MC without listening to his side of the story first, and my problem with the MC is that he does not seem to mind at all even though if he was weaker than them they would have killed him.

6. The side characters have no personality because even though the MCs decision endangers them they do not seem to reprimand him.

[collapse]

Ok so these are the reasons among many others for which I am dropping this WN for the third time I will not let anyone say I did not give it a chance. <<less

One thing to take note of is this series has very few actual challenges for Rimuru.

Finally, an isekai that is a power fantasy without being dark, edgy and destructive.
This isekai in my eyes is the culmination of what an isekai should be, heroes and demon lords, a small but cute and flavourful harem, nation building, dragons and an interesting skill and magic system.

To me this isekai is one of the big 5 of isekai and really enjoyable to read, the fights are intense due to not everyone being super overpowered, the politics are satisfying watching fat nobles crumble, the characters especially Veldora, how it isn't afraid to go a bit dark or edgy and embraces what an isekai should be, as I said a power fantasy.

Only one small complaint everyone keeps underestimating everybody its like I'm reading a cultivator or something.

? I totally agree with some point that you make such as sometimes the character feel wash out and such. But I disagree that, they're totally wash out. As example in chapter tournament, we can see the conflict of shion who fears of being forgotten by rimuru. And I think it tells a lot of her characters, and also Hakurou's character because it explain how he raised all the ogres and the proud feeling he have toward those whom he taught. Sometimes the character do feel wash out because its... more>> quantity, but they do give impressions that can last. Maybe its just me but I even remember bester, because a short paragraph telling his devotion toward the kind really give a memorable impression and such, and I also think that the tournament arc is very important. You may think that it is boring and too much pissing but we can see the growth of those characters, the interaction of rimuru's subordinates and some background story happening that we didn't know. Such as Shion's internal conflict. Overall the novel it self really is too light hearted, a lot of relaxation even though its after war or in dangerous time. But I think is what make this novel unique, maybe its just my thinking and opinion but I truly think that it is a good novel even though slightly boring from repeating jokes and long paragraph. Im not biased or something, this is just my pure opinion. What do u guys think ^^ <<less

The novel was excellent till the chapter that im on. For an example unnecessary talking, arcs, and stuff. It just gets really boring but I loved the tournament arc honestly. If the LN ever gets translated more i'll read it since the manga seems really good.

A decent isekai novel, on pair with Death March in overall interestingness, a light and easy read you won't regret if you like general setting of rebirth into fantasy world with overpowered (or, rather, constantly powering up) protagonist.

Is this novel still going? I stopped a while back and I'd have to say the only problem was the direction it seemed to take. later on it was a bit weird and long winded, I think some of the arcs were unnecessary and the writing was over explanatory. It basically just started to get boring... Kind of lost any sort of conflict and became more of a super-powered slice of life if that makes sense. It was okay at the start because there were a number of aspects that... more>> complimented it well, now it kinda just doesn't keep my interest. Overall its pretty good, just tapers off towards the end, I think again due to the writing being over explanatory and unnecessary.

Talking about his gender and romance, honestly I don't see an issue, the story was never about his love life to begin with. It was all about the country building and world elements and if you're having a problem with it maybe its because you're too into harems. Read and watch actual quality content and maybe your taste will improve as well. <<less

Some may consider this a generic OP isekai novel, but this was one of my first, so I may be a bit biased here.

The MC is decently written. He doesn't start out super OP, but gets stronger as the story goes. The other main characters are given some time to shine (from what I can tell, more so in the LN version), and are pretty likable, though the WN doesn't fully cover the motivations for some of the characters. Due to the super wide cast of characters, some feel like... more>> they've been forgotten.

The plot gets pretty interesting as the story goes, and while the twists aren't particularly mindblowing, the story is written well enough to be enjoyable. Some of the story developments were foreshadowed really early on, so it seems the plot was planned out pretty well by the author.

My only problem is with the current arc, where while the battles are decent, some of the attack names are... kinda chuuni. The attack explanations also reach exposition dump levels at times. Otherwise, the author manages to not make the fights too unbalanced.

The translation isn't perfect, but is good enough that it won't be an issue. When I started there were two translators; one of them, Circustranslations (or Clown) was really good but disappeared for some reason. S/He wrote some interesting stories that are worth a read, if you can find them somewhere (the sites gone AFAIK). <<less

So I started this a while ago (a year?) and it's pretty good. It kind of rolls into a kingdom building novel type but it's very good if I say so. The reason I wrote this review though is to clear up and state a couple of things. First, like others say, the interactions between characters is where it shines, very much so I believe. Second, unless it changes from Ch 186, it doesn't deserve the harem tag. Sure there are quite a few female characters but he shows no... more>> actual romantic interest in any of them nor do they show any for him and they are girls as to be expected for a pseudo kingdom building novel. It'd be weird if there was no girls and only guys for a kingdom, unless that's the motif. If there is anybody that shows actual romantic interest in him then maybe you can justify one person (maybe two though not really at all) and he definitely doesn't show any inclination towards seeking a harem. Mostly expect great interactions between characters, kingdom building before too long, and NOT a harem. <<less

Fun read but long winded. I'm still trying to get over the whole "essay" format writing of Light novels.

The long winded-ness was annoying but especially annoying when in the middle of a battle scene. Waaaaay too much unnecessary thoughts, assumptions, etc.

I like this novel, it is fun and interesting with just the right amount of comedy. My only problem with this novel, and the reason I am dropping it, is how many different translators it has passed through and the discommunication between them. I read a few chapters, have to come back to this page to continue on with a different translator, and repeat. Maybe this isn't the best reason to stop reading a novel but how much enjoyment I get from reading is out weighed by the annoyance, quality... more>> of translations at times, and the main fact that I can find a similar novel without a tremendous amount of effort. Sorry, I like this novel and if it gets this straightened out, I'd love to come back to it. <<less

The story was quite good at the beginning and pretty fun in the middle. The most recent ark about fighting the angels is... ending of bleach bad. To be honest, the powers and leveling up and fights were never particularly good in the story, since the MC basically never faced any real challenge or threat (barring one or two encounters that they still ended up winning pretty handily).

The fun for me was more that the characters were likeable and had fun interactions. Probably my favorite ark was when the MC... more>> and his buddies decided to stop everything to make an rpg dungeon, then try beating it with avatars.

Later on the battles, however, pretty much devolved into everyone revealing their ultimate god power that does some very strong but weirdly specific thing, and then the good side's power somehow counters the bad side's power through magic mumbo jumbo, or someone else comes in with a counter power to curbstomp the enemy. The later arks also started revolving a lot around a group of devils who showed up pretty late and who have much worse characterization than the earlier cast. The descriptions of powers also began to drag on to a tedious degree. It has gotten to the point that I just poke my head in every few chapters to see if the fighting has wrapped up yet.

All in all, I think its still a fun series, and if you read only the first 3/4ths, you will probably like it a lot. <<less

The problems I have with this are that the author constantly repeats himself and the battles become "my power is stronger than your power that was stronger than my power that was stronger than your power" so you get chapters that could be half as long with exactly the same information and that look like kids playing pretend fights with superpowers. Story and characters (except the main? Villain) were interesting enough early on that I'll finish reading it.
