Teaching the Female Lead to Be Thick-Skinned, Not Shameless

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

The consequence of staying up late reading novels is that one day, after pulling an all-nighter, you close your eyes and open them again, only to find yourself transmigrated into the role of a villainous male supporting character.

Readers familiar with urban wish-fulfillment novels know that it is only through the relentless antics of the villainous male supporting character that the plot between the male and female leads can progress.

As the villainous male supporting character, Long Aotian not only has to bully the female lead, harass the second female lead, and flirt with the third female lead, but he also has to go all out to antagonize the male lead.

In the end, when his body is discovered, he is still clutching half a moldy fried dough stick in his hand.

Fully aware of the plot, Long Aotian is determined to change his fate, starting with the female lead!

In the beginning, the female lead lacks confidence: “Big brother, I hope I didn’t scare you?”

In the middle, the female lead treads carefully: “Brother Long, please don’t hit me, okay?”

Later on, the female lead becomes coquettishly clingy: “Aotian, it’s time to pay the ‘public grain’ tonight.”

Long Aotian’s legs go weak, and he feels like crying: “I taught you to be thick-skinned, not shameless!”

Originally, I quite enjoyed this story (high school period) as something that wasn't too complex but just a warm-hearted story developing the relationship of Long Aotian and Hu Yuying. It had nice developments and whilst Ye Liangchen was almost comedically inept and repetitive as a villain, it was easy to take it in stride as a result of just being a badly written villain for comedy's sake in an otherwise heartwarming story.

However, this story takes a severe and very distasteful downfall after they move to college and it's hard to... more>> explain why without spoilers.

Spoiler

After they get into college, I thought it'd be good riddance to Ye Liangchen and the story would instead focus on developing the relationship of the MC and the FL as they age into adulthood. Instead of that development, for some reason, the author became enamoured with using s*xual assault as their main plot point.

    • A new FL (Lin Wanning) gets introduced, befriends Long Aotian and Hu Yuying. I initially quite liked her character and was wondering how she'd be implemented into the cast, whether the story chooses a harem route or for a more platonic one with boundaries set. Instead, the author makes her r*pe Long Aotian (literally tied to a chair) and keep using it as blackmail to f*ck him more and dig this emotional hole deeper. If there's one caveat to this, it's that Long Aotian confesses it to Hu Yuying but is begging for forgiveness. Everyone compromises with Hu Yuying obviously being distraught over these events, having one of her best friends betray her and losing trust in Long Aotian. But I didn't like the latter whatsoever because Long Aotian never wanted any of this and literally got r*ped. Yet they frame it as if he did something wrong.
    • Next for Li Qingxue, to make her part of the harem, instead of developing on her friendship with Hu Yuying to discuss her feelings and love for Long Aotian... Li Qingxue decides to swap motel numbers, pretend she's Lin Wanning by keeping the lights dim and have Long Aotian have s*x with her. This time instead of r*pe, Long Aotian gets tricked into it (and the author makes Long Aotian somehow unable to tell he's having s*x with someone that has a different voice, body type, etc) but this wasn't as bad as the one before and got resolved very quickly.
    • This next point pisses me off even more is Ye Liangchen follows them to the capital city by going into a lower tier university. And he becomes irredeemable tr*sh, illiciting one of Hu Yuying's classmates to join him. Eventually they reach a point where they want to frame Long Aotian for assaulting someone else (I'll explain who she is later) but in the process, he and his lackey end up having s*x and all of a sudden they're f*ck buddies. But for some reason he still wants the trio of girls whilst continuing to f*ck his lackey the whole time. And now instead of his plan of having Long Aotian assault someone (which is already super tr*shy), they want to record themselves raping Long Aotian instead???? Like what the f*ck is this plot point supposed to be?? And they plot for a long time so you end up reading so much about this shitty plan that it leaves a horrendous taste in your mouth.
    • Now as of the latest chapter I've read (418), the girl they were planning to have Long Aotian assault is a T university classmate called Shen Mengjie. She actually has a story around her about leading on several men as she struggles with relationships and develops an addiction to feeling wanted which was actually not bad. Throughout all of Long Aotian's interactions with her, he clearly shows no interest in her but lo and behold she likes him.
    • And now, Ye Liangchen did their plan of trying to get Long Aotian drunk to r*pe him, fortunately Long Aotian beats him and his lackey back and nothing happens but Shen Mengjie took advantage of him in his sleep.
    • I haven't read further to see if Shen Mengjie somehow enters the harem but I really hate how every development in the college arc is literally based around s*xual assault.
      [collapse]
So for those who didn't look into the spoilers. Initially I liked this story as it focused on the development of characters, and the big brother caring for their 'follower', not worrying about how others perceive them but doing the best they can for each other.

But in the college arc, all I can say is the author chose to progress the plot with one of the most awful devices ever and it left a really bad taste in my mouth.

The saddest part is the author still manages to write a few chapters that are really nice and gives me the vibes of the initial half of the story, but inevitably returns to plot points outlined in my spoiler section above. It's like seeing glimpses of hope before being slapped across the face again.

Edit: Caught up to the latest chapter 479 and now changing from 2 stars to 1 star

Spoiler

I kept reading because I'm in so deep that I might as well finish it. But this ending is absolute shit.

From above, Shen Mengjie had s*x with Long Aotian when he was drunk (spiked drink by Ye Liangchen) and is pregnant.

Her s*um mother finds out and tries to sell her off for money, publicising the pregnancy and Mengjie gets expelled. She refuses to tell anyone the truth and bottles everything in and eventually commits su*cide. Whilst the reasoning and such I could understand, I don't understand why this author is so intent on tormenting their characters.

Following this, MC is completely f*cked mentally, depression which spirals and hides all his feelings from everyone. Continues to hide it, never communicates and f*cking runs away into hiding for 8 years. Now it's a rushed timeskip ending and everything is just so ass. I really really hate the plot points this author used, everything feels so forced and the more I read, the more I wish this story ended earlier.

This was really fun while the main characters were still in highschool. It became a chore to read when it's pretty much the same recycled plot from highschool but used again for college. Also because this was not what I expected. Reading the title made me think that the female lead (s) would fall in love with the male MCs despite being a d*ck about it. Guess my expectations were off too

So damn fun, I love that the female leads actually have a personality and the MC is pretty great too. His gospel-like advice is funny to read because he legit sounds like an 80 year old. The best part about this novel though is ironically the original protagonist who is now the antagonist. That mf is so cringe and dense that he always makes me laugh uncontrollably whenever he pops up because of how uselessly confident he is. Give this a read, you won't regret it.

Started off really well with an interesting story about how MC protects FMC and help her become a stronger whole individual. The pacing is slow, but is still able to move the plot along. This all changes after both of them reach college where the pacing becomes even more slow with chapters filled with cute interactions between MC and his harem, but overall has no actual substance that drives the plot forward. The other 2 girls part of his harem also do not have as strong as an impact when... more>> interacting MC and feel more tacked on.

The original protagonist who was already cringe worthy in the beginning, became nothing more than a comparison device to make the MC look better after entering college. The only addition is he now has another sidekick, Xu Shaohua, that is just as dumb and possessive of the girls as he is.

The plot in college pretty much goes...

Cute moment with MC with his girls -> original protag and his sidekick interrupts them-> begins badmouthing MC and explain why the girls should fall in love with him instead -> girls become even more disgusted and explain how MC is so cool -> MC then kicks both the protag and sidekicks' asses -> girls fall even more in love with him -> rinse and repeat <<less

I really like the relationship between Long Aotian and the female lead. She has no confidence, so he takes her under his wing and teaches her to be confident. A second female lead has also shown up and Long Aotian is helping her out with her problems too.

Also, the original male lead is so confidently wrong/brainless that it is kinda amusing to watch him make false assumption after false assumption.

No words to say this novel is too sweet. I can't wait for further chapter release and I even added this to my weekly reading list. This novel is so different from many Chinese transmigration novels. No love at first sight moments no edgy MC with op abilities in all aspects and rich. Just a humble man who wants to change female leads to think on their own instead of complete dependence on fake MC. This novel is really good I ask you guys to read atleast 10 chapters and... more>> judge based on it <<less

Lame. That's all I can say after reading the first ten chapters of this overrated slop. I usually give webnovels at least ten chapters before I form an opinion, but you can immediately tell what kind of novel this is. For something making fun of 'wish-fulfillment' novels, this 100% is one of those novels. The protagonist, right off the bat, introduces himself to the female lead as a 'nice guy', setting the course for what is probably the most lame 'badass and cool' wannabe I've seen. It's clear that he's... more>> just written by someone that was never cool and think this is what cool people talk and act like.

Dude literally gives the main heroine a 'just be confident bro' pep talk within the first chapters that manage to change her entire life and personality, he's just that f*cking cool and sagely. But the only reason he gets away with anything in this novel without being bullied into an early grave is because he has the buff of spawning into a character that was intimidating and physically strong, without that he'd be screwed.

Translation is quite decent, which saves this from getting a 1/5. <<less

I can really see how a teenager's mind might get warped when they suddenly receive a bunch of memories from some parallel world line where they were a protagonist.

Being so impossibly self-assured and arrogant like you are a god and twisting everything that doesn't go according to your plans is not something entertaining (I thought until now).

But the way OG protagonist of this novel behaves; for comic relief, is really done well. I just hope he doesn't stay that way forever and just like the female leads gets some character... more>> development.

I mean, for the MC who was already an adult before transmigration going against; a teenager who only knows how to create flimsy plans (that were only able to succeed when he was the protagonist in his memories) would be a really easy win.

The way author is building up the characters of FMC (s) is also quiet nice. There are no girls instantly falling head over heels and then fighting like some aphrodisiac induced animals for a peice of MC.

The Novel so far has been good, hoping that it will continue to be so. <<less

Yep. The other reviews pretty much nailed it. This is (in all aspects but one, more on that later) a heartwarming, SOL-ish harem romance. The girls are all well developed, the romance is GREAT, and more importantly, the current arc, the harem is actually developing nicely. By that I mean the part where 3 separate romances become intertwined into one story. That's not to say that all harems must have it, but I personally really enjoy it when the girls support each other and know each others feelings (harems with... more>> purely separate romances might as well just be parallel consecutive cheating, it's not a 'true' harem if they don't know about each other).

Anyway, we're at the story where the main cast is becoming a cohesive whole, and it's really nice. I appreciate all 3 of the girls, though I'll be fair and say that #3 came out of nowhere, faster than the others, and has the least 'valid' reason for falling in love. Ergo, the first 2 were very fluid and natural, #3 was rushed. To be clear though, since like... chapter 1, she's been teased. I'm not sure it's actually chapter one, but she's been mentioned from the very beginning; she just hasn't had the chance to show up because she's met in college, and it starts in Highschool.

The one downside, and it is a major one, however, is the 'former Protagonist'. It's mentioned elsewhere, but he's a super caricaturized villain. I still put this story at a 5/5 because literally every other part of this is beyond solid gold, but he's... painfully bad and cringe to read. His character is basically 'a former protagonist whose only achievements were due to plot armor', and now that his plot armor is gone and his 'antagonist' (the MC) is an actual human being rather than a... caricaturized villain lol, he falls apart.

It honestly could be a rather profound meta-level statement comparing and contrasting the two main male characters, but I'm pretty sure it's just luck lol. In the 'last life' the girls were silly cutouts that fell in love for 'Reasons' and the antagonist was a mindless villain, and in this current life the former-protag has devolved into a mindless villain, and the new MC is actually human. (And the girls fall in love for FAR better reasons, over much more reasonable timelines).

Anyway, this would be quite literally the best romance I've ever read were it not for the antagonist being so... cringe and poorly written, which brings it down to 'merely' a 5/5 story lol.

Highly recommended. Just turn off your brain when it comes to the villain, as he's so mindless you have to just accept he's there to get his own face slapped. Ah yes, face-slapping, the epitome of Chinese webnovels.... <<less

Ok at first, but the main character becomes really annoying because of his wishy washiness when it comes to his relationship with the main girl. The author is obviously doing this both for the sake of delaying their relationship from starting as well as allowing the harem to be created since at first only the main girl liked the main character and if the MC wasn't being a d*mbass about it they would already be together with no option of anyone interfering with the relationship.

Imo this novel would be way... more>> better with no harem, which can be said of most novels with harem. Reminds me of [A demon lord's tale] in that the romance was waaaaaay better in the beginning before the harem was introduced, and once it's introduced we're in perpetual filler territory to pad the novel with useless shit. <<less

Pretty enjoyable slice of life. MC is in a novel as a villain character, not particularly important as all the important characters don't know him before he takes control. The original protagonist did regress however and sees him as a nemesis, and he is a gag character whos whole thing is being super cringe. Some people may find it funny but honestly I skip most of the scenes he takes center stage on and still thoroughly enjoy the novel. Good translation and update speed.

Recommended for people who want

  1. Cute slice of life
  2. Romance/probable harem
  3. No stakes, no struggle story
  4. likeable and chill MC

An early review. So far, cute. The first female lead makes me want to puke sugar. She's super shy and submissive, so seeing her try to become courageous and actually change is adorable. MC is very down to earth since he basically learned how to make a living early before the transmigration.

Anyways, what I wanted to talk about is the story protag. So, he actually gets reverted, gaining memories of his future, the story future. And, somehow, he acts exactly like a prepubescent middle schooler despite being mentally 26 supposedly.... more>> He gets his friend to see if his crush (one of the female leads) is looking or talking about him. Bro is a massive simp. The frustrating part, or I guess the funny part, is that he always makes the wrong decision. Like, bro, just stop! He assumes that everything will go exactly like his previous run. One, obviously not, because of MC's doings causing a butterfly effect (MC actually does not know he's the story protag cuz he doesn't know what he looks like). Two, he falls into the trap of letting things happen cuz it happened in the future, even if he triggers it too early. Also, there are so many chapter with the story protag's POV which is getting annoying, especially with his constant soliloquy of assuming the female leads' feelings.

Also, also, it says that MC is fully aware of the plot, but currently, it doesn't seem like he's doing anything to intervene or interact with the story events. He's mostly just trying to fix the female leads' flaws, like with the first girl's shyness.

That said, this is an early review to give my thoughts. It's pretty good so far. I'll add a bit more once I read further.

Edit: Okay, I caught up. Since my review is already long, I'll just put it in the spoiler, there will be slight spoilers tho anyways. The previous parts still stands btw.
Spoiler

We finally reach the point where MC says the title. Not that she is shameless as in trying to pull a move, but playful teasing.

I'm not actually sure if this is a harem. Only two of the female leads have appeared. And, it's mainly focusing on the first one. She even

Spoiler

kissed MC on the lips. But, they somehow managed to shrug it off. Hopefully, they'll address their feelings for each other soon.

[collapse]

The second female lead is somewhat interested in MC, but with his very down to earth personality, I'm not really sure if it'll turn into a harem. That said, I have hope.

Also, I cannot exaggerated enough how the story protag is insufferable. He's practically delusional. His parents, his mom mostly, share some of that quality too. He constantly tries to act cool while saying cringe, and I do mean cringe, lines while posing. Every time he does it, it nonstop keeps describing that it accentuates his sharp jawline. I'm getting second-hand embarrassment from it. He just can't see that the future can change. Also, it laughable how his situation has reversed.
Spoiler

Originally, he's supposed to go to university with the help of the female lead, while MC's og character was supposed to get in with his father's connection.

But now, MC is the one who studied with the female lead and got in to the university. While, story protag failed to study cuz he's too busy posting cringe that not only did he receive an unfathomable low score, but also begged his parents to hide his low score and use their connections to get him in.
[collapse]

I'm really looking forward to story protag's inevitable crash, and I really do wish he falls really bad cuz he deserves it. Other than that, the story is pretty great. I'm enjoying MC's interaction with the first and second female leads.

I was pleasantly disappointed with the story, as I was expecting a comedic, funny tale based on the title. But instead we got something better. The characters work very well in it. Especially the main character and the 3 heroines. But the other supporting characters are also enjoyable. Each heroine has a personality that can never be confused. And the main character is normal. I don't mean that in a bad way, but in a positive way, because he's not like the others who live for 1000 years yet behave... more>> like a 15 year old. Instead he feels like a mature adult and he doesn't care about heroines who are younger mentally. The story is also pleasantly paced. The only problem is the original protagonist Ye Liangchen who, despite having returned to the time, behaves like an idiot. But you can really imagine it that way. In the story, he is rejected by the heroines a lot, he fights with our protagonist only to keep failing because he thinks what happened in the future will happen again. But he doesn't realize that maybe the fault is in himself, because his shyness has changed and when he fought with the main character he didn't see that he is different from his previous life. Instead, he keeps hitting the wall over and over again. But overall this is a good work, I recommend it to everyone to read.

After chapter 308, I feel the quality of the work diminishes, as once you get into a formal relationship with one of the heroines the other two who have been there before are neglected. The plot doesn't move forward after that. And our protagonist who was previously a well developed, wise, experienced character is ruined. The story has nothing to say about the plot and if there is any it is minimal. It bothers me that we don't know how much money the protagonist has, what he does with it and the like. And the third heroine Lin wanning is irritating and annoying. Not built up as well as the other two, but still a damn annoying, psyop character girl. But it can still be described as a good piece of work. But it's not like the beginning. <<less

Read up to the latest I could find through machine translation and I gotta say, this is fine. The progress of the relationship between the MC and FMC seems reasonable and their interactions are cute. They become official around 200+ chapters iirc and it is still fun to see their interactions (but now has s*x involved). This series is more like a slice of life reading about these two's life and the friends around them while laughing at and mocking the unbelievably cringe original protagonist. This series does that well... more>> but that "Harem" tag is there for a reason. I am all for harem but for series that I am fine not taking too seriously but this aspect here leads to some unsavory events happening later down the line.

Spoiler

So there are three heroines that the MC is going to meet and the third one (Lin Manning/Wanting) is the one they will meet in college. After MC and FMC (Hu Yuying) got together, Lin Manning still can't forget MC so she eggs on the FMC to hurry up and have s*x with MC so she is less guilty about handcuffing the MC, raping him, recording all that and use that video to blackmail MC to continue their relationship. Thankfully, MC isn't one to drag on a drama so he confesses to FMC after just one week. After that, the three of them continue this relationship but now with all of them aware. That is how the harem starts and they plan to have the remaining heroine (Li Qingxue) join them. Oh and this Li Qingxue was already planning some weird sh*t as well because she found out about MC's cheating and was going to use this information to have a taste of MC, unaware that MC already confessed to his sin.

[collapse]

Another pretty challenging part to read about is how the original MC went from a narcissistic cringe lord to a disgusting, r*pey, and immoral piece of human garbage on par if not worse than the original body the MC possessed. I get that he is the antagonist in the story but he appears in the story frequently and having a significant amount to read about his thoughts make me sick.

Spoiler

Here are some of the disgusting things he has planned to do or has actually done.

  • Enlisted the help of another narcissistic douche by letting him f*ck the FMC if he manages to take care of the MC (which thankfully is f*cking impossible)
  • Plan to Bill Cosby the heroines and as an added bonus the MC as well because...
  • He already sort of r*ped a dude before, which is the narcissistic douche mentioned earlier and he can't forget the feeling. Yes, he's gay now.
  • Wanting to invite a loyal friend of his to hang out only because he will be useful in taking an attack and a way to frame mu*der to MC.
[collapse]

So if any of these things are not something you want to read, better read only up to a little later after MC and FMC get together. <<less

This novel isn't bad, but I can't say it's good either. The selling point of this novel is the romance between the MC and the heroine, but I found both the MC and especially the heroine to be lackluster. I can't care about their relationship if I don't care about the characters. I found the heroine to be super 1 dimensional, bland, and unnoteworthy. The author wrote something about her backstory being bullied, but I couldn't muster any sense of sympathy because she doesn't feel like a real person.

Please note... more>> that I only did read 10 chapters, so maybe it gets better, I don't know. But what I can say is that based on the first 10 chapters, the characters were average at best, and for a novel that relies solely on the relationship between its characters, boring characters are fatal. Overall 2/5 but good translation makes it a 3/5. <<less
