The world centers around completing Dungeons. Sung Joon, nicknamed the Legend, for his pathetic healing abilities, is a C-Rank Healer with combat abilities worse than an E-Rank Hunter. One day, while traversing through a dungeon with his party, he finds a sword stuck in an altar. No one is able to pull out the sword but as soon as he approaches it, a cruel test begins. His only hope is the sword. However when he pulls out the sword, he learns of a life that isn’t his, swordsmanship that isn’t his, and his life changes forever. How will the weakest Healer become the strongest Swordmaster?

This is a 2.5 for me so far.

What we have here is a MC that is shunned by everyone because he's practically garbage when it comes to his class (healer), no one wants him in their party because well.. His healing sucks and he's a pathetic person overall and very spiteful one at that. He hits the jackpot after discovering something that unlocks his past life potential and skills. Right away his personality takes a 360 turn. He turns into a psychopath. Peoples lives mean nothing to him unless he... more>> can benefit from them, as in making $$ for him and his father who's in the hospital. He'll watch people die, torture pkers/people for information. Some pkers tried to kill him in a dungeon raid, he killed all of them and then made it his life mission to kill all pkers, his reason? Because pkers tried to kill him. He becomes so arrogant, greedy that its off putting and make me want to just hope someone stronger appears and just kill him off, and I'm only 17 chapters in. As stated from one of the previous reviewers, the MC is a antihero. I don't mind antiheroes but the way this one acts is just pathetic and selfish. I'll probably drop this somewhere along the way. <<less

Sorry, but the story is neither engaging nor well written. Other than "synchronizing" with his past memories (whatever that means - does his body get taken over by some dead dude?) there isn't any plot at all. There's a subplot about the MC trying to get money to pay for his father's hospital bills (can't he just use healing magic or whatever?) that does not progress beyond:

MC: Hey dad, I paid your hospital bills.

Dad: Thanks!

... more>> MC:...

Dad:...

MC: I'll be off now.

That's pretty much all the character interaction in the novel so far (25 chapters).

There are no interesting characters whatsoever (we got a few as*hole dudes who died in one of the earlier dungeon runs). The ones so far introduced in the story are so bland that they are not worth mentioning - random recruiter dude tries to recruit the MC, MC says no, recruiter says ok. Uhh, where's the story?

Look at chapter 25 (a typical chapter). It took an entire chapter to describe a typical solo run through a typical dungeon: MC goes into a dungeon, monsters in the dungeon attack him, he kills them easily, the end. It took an entire chapter to describe a typical dungeon run that I just described in one sentence. Why? Either the author is extremely verbose and wants to describe everything in detail, or just has nothing interesting to tell (which is the impression I get after reading 25 chapters). I'll bet on the latter. <<less

Now I usually don’t mind reading short chapter novels, nor do I mind simple writing; however, when coupled with bad writing, poor plot, and various other negative elements, it exemplifies my distaste. The pacing from how fast and quick the MC becomes OP, adjusts to his new strength, and the way everyone reacts to it is terrible. It is like a badly written soap but without the tension, character development, or twist. There is no real explanation for his gain in power, delving into his past of previous personality, or... more>> worthwhile world building. I am sure some people might be able tolerate it, but I can’t enjoy this novel. <<less

The series isn't nearly so bad as most of the reviews make it out to be.

It's certainly not deserving of high praises, and only barely gets my 3 star rating, but I still recommend it for those who liked Soul Station Necromancer, The Tutorial is Too Hard or He's the Legendary Guard, and I would definitely rate it higher than other similar series like I Never Run Out of Mana, Everyone else is a returnee or Dimensional Sovereign.

It is unfortunate that the series has a lot of cringy scenes early... more>> on, including the wanton mu*der of the guy in front of the dungeon guild or the quick and mostly nonsensical early power ups that the MC uses to just show he's an immature brat. However, it does get better after awhile. The power ups are still s*upidly big, but at least they have decently timed flashbacks and world building behind them.

One major flaw that unfortunately doesn't change is all the 'you're amazing' comments, ad verbatim that happen, usually totally out of character and without any variation towards the MC. I'm afraid the emotional depth and wit of the characters never gets better.

It is an action flick, so expect lots of generic monster appearances in dungeons and arrogant brats and smackdowns. However, it has just enough exploration of the society that it kept me interested. The hunter guild rep and the brief appearances of other guilds are not fleshed out as they should be, but they're not terrible, while I don't mind the 2 romantic interests later on.

Translation quality is also high.

So, in summary: I don't recommend this in general, but if you are a fan of dungeon crawl type novels like the ones listed above, give it a chance beyond the first 30 chapters, where it starts to develop a bit more. Definitely read the better ones like Legendary Guard, SSN or Tutorial is Too Hard first though, if you haven't. <<less

I gave up on chapter 5, even though I have nothing better to do right now.

tr*sh protagonist.

Gains power.

Immediately starts picking fights.

While a crowd explains what "self-defense" means.

...

I double-checked but it is a Korean web novel and not a Chinese web novel. Cliche stories can be enjoyable but Swordmaster Healer doesn't do the cliches particularly enjoyably. There are better OP protagonists with a chip on their shoulder and a hole in their head. And when you've read all of those... this one will still be too bad to pick up.

So far, it's a Dungeons in modern-ish setting with a looked-down-upon weakling who has a miraculous stroke of luck and instantly gains fantastic power causing everyone to be in awe of his greatness.

The translation is great, but you can tell right off the bat that the MC is an antihero.

Spoiler

Instead of struggling harder, he leaves the party to die. He then loots their corpses. Leaves the bodies behind for others to clean up. And in the end, just writes them off as mere stepping stones without an afterthought.

Of course, the MC isn't wrong in his reactions, but he's not the kind of guy I would look up to as a role model. In a sense, you would say that he's realistic. In another sense, you would point him out to a bunch of kids and say, "don't imitate him."

On a slightly different vein, instead of creating destiny, MC is following it as the author uses handwaving to stack up coincidences leading up to obtaining his power as well as a safe escape route that leaves zero consequences and a ton of gain.

But yeah, take my words with a grain of salt since I only got up to chapter 4, which is only enough to explain how he gets his power. We haven't been given a chance to figure out where the story is going to go from here and, who knows, maybe he redeems himself in the future...

... Maybe. This story seems to possess a passing resemblance to certain other stories and the general idea behind them was always, "no regrets".

This novel has some serious problems, I don't know if it is the translation or if it is a problem with the original but this is not worth the time to actually read. The entire story is written as though it were a bare-bones outline for an actual story and lacks anything to draw the reader in.

Major areas of the novel need to be explained as well, the various details of the world are lacking and leave more questions than answers.

c33: It's a pretty typical weak to strong Korean story where their power instantly skyrockets when a power awakens. His swordmaster life turns him brutal and messes with his personality too. This novel is focusing a lot more on his swordmaster life than on his current situation. It's not even 50 chapters into the novel yet so I say for sure where this is heading but there is enough foreshadowing of enemies from his past life that I can probably guess he's going to have to fight them eventually.

c76:And yep.... more>> Pretty predictable. <<less

Edit (c39) : See if you can hold out till chapter 39, which is when the actual plot begins. Until then, it aimlessly follows the predictable pattern mentioned in my original review.

This extended prologue would have been better shortened, shifting to greater use of exposition to set the scene quickly. As it is, what I got was how overpowered and edgy the plot-armored MC is and how dumb, arrogant, and weak the rest of the world is, which is not a good look for a novel that wants to stand... more>> out.

Original: There isn't much plot or worldbuilding. And what little there is makes me yawn. I don't care for the mystery of his past life because the author hasn't given us any hint of why it matters other than powering up. The novel is just cycles of people underestimating and offending him, and then him subverting their expectations and taking revenge. If he's ever in a pinch, plot armor ensures that his new skill saves him. Despite being a Korean novel, it follows the same structure as lazily-written Xianxias except there's less filler so things move faster. That also means the cycles repeat so fast that those mini-arcs get repetitive. It reminds me a lot of Talisman Emperor in how little I care for the plot with how predictable things play out. <<less

It's only been 5 chapters so far, but it looks to be interesting so far. I enjoy dungeon hunting novels so that's the reason for my 4-star rating otherwise it would probably be 3 stars (as in It's good/i like it).

Story so far, the MC is a loser-healer, who can't heal at all and due to plot armor he gets swordmaster skills. So far it's the generic dungeon/slasher novel.

This novel is recommended for those that enjoy dungeon novels such as "Dungeon Hunter", "Dimensional Sovereign" or "Seoul Station's Necromancer". This is... more>> similar to those at the moment.

We'll see how it goes once more chapters are out. <<less

A story that made me laugh whenever the plot armor smacked me in the face, then made me want to slap my cheek against the wall to compare its thickness to the plot armor at the later stages.

The characters are 2-dimensional, there are no interesting side characters or villians. The romance is the cliche girl (s) -admires-superstrong-guy-who-saved-her-life, but the boy is too up in the clouds to see them.

The world background is good but it is ruined by the immature settings and reactions. Imagine a country only has 15 s-rank... more>> guys but our MC hops in and kills one in "self-defense" in an argument for bumping into his car (which the other guy offered to pay for albeit arrogantly). The bureau in charge does nothing even though the country is in dire need of s-rankers. When the MC becomes an s-ranker himself, an organization targets him even though s-rankers are supposed to be privileged so that they don't defect to other countries, sigh, no sense at all.

No one questions his sudden abilities, no one asks how he can suddenly fight better than combat-ability users, no suspicion at all. In the plot conflict areas, the MC rolls in and giant organisations lose their reputation, members, influence and then the MC just cleans up house in "self-defense", it is rinse and repeat (down to the dialogues and one-liners, no joke!). He has no real friends or comrades he can call on. He doesn't question his past life or personality change. He chases after money but has no real goals, even with all his accomplishments, there is no real social influence he exerts.

Too many plotholes, ill-thought conflicts, and poorly developed emotional response.

This story could have been so much more but the write-up seemed childish and worldly inexperienced. <<less

I'm actually enjoyed this, but few issue from this novel getting worse. What you could expect from the story same as title, MC is tr*sh healer first healer but has past as swordmaster so he became hybrid healer-swordmaster, and the story is about journey to recover his past memories.

This novel seriously has problem in lack of detail in anything like in character also story got not enough much interesting, for me atleast. The story itself use usual cliche about how MC getting stronger without much detail, just.. They did replace... more>> "level" with "synchonize rate" (felt same tho). MC getting stronger because plot armor and convience power he had, but no one ever ask or doubt what his power come from. Character dev (growth) isnt much (or isnt exist?) except his power get stronger atleast so far. I'm even thinking maybe main cast is an android.

Aside that, I could enjoy this if im not thinking much while reading this so my rate would be like 3.5/5. Its good story, but not great. <<less

Boring start. Uses the 'Dungeons exist on Earth' trope without bothering to explore how that affects society at any level beyond the superficial. Main character is a typical 'loser who suddenly gets granted power' like in a million other stories, and as soon as he gets any power he immediately begins exploring dungeons solo, thus preventing him from interacting with other characters in meaningful ways. There's some possibility for this to get better but mostly it just feels like a much more poorly-executed version of Seoul Station's Necromancer.

Unfortunately, after finish reading chapter 4 its not good enough for me to continue. The title and the plot sounded insanely good, but was executed really badly. First off, the MC is a C rank hunter but is weaker than a D rank hunter. Why? because hes a sub par healer. So, one day he goes into a D dungeon with a bunch of D hunters and 1 E hunter, finds a hidden dungeon that "releases his past potential". BAM guess what? hes a sword saint! WOW everyone else dies... more>> he slaughters his way to freedom. k cool. Nope, but in Chapter 4, the personality of the MC completely changes. Why? because he suddenly got stronger? WHAT? A guy comes up worrying about something fishy had went on with his friend end up dying. I would be too, but instead of helping the guy out and lying his way through he just acts like a dick. Wow, guess whats going to happen when A) the guy worries about his friend B) you act like a complete arse hole while hes worried ? They start a fight, easily MC beats him up. The worried friend gets "worried" about his future career as he got beaten up by the weakest hunter in the world, decides to try and cut his arm off while MC wasnt looking. MC dodges it and... thats where the chapter ends. Honestly, I understand what some others are saying this is anti hero, but you have to have some kind of back story for him to "become" anti hero. You cant just say OH IM STRONG NOW SO I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT. This is like a 9 year old writing a story of how awesome it is to achieve power and flipping a switch to act 180 degrees different. <<less

2 stars for the translator.

0 stars for the story

The world building and logic in this novel are exceedingly weak. If you attempt to read it you will need to first get a lobotomy.

The MC is a psychopath. Being an anti-hero would be fine, but he seems to enjoy finding people to kill.

Also, the author doesn't seem to think about science or medicine at all...

Spoiler

Someone gets their arm cut off at the END of clearing a dungeon.... and it's like oh well his career is over.... of course it's absolutely impossible to just pick up the arm that was laying on the ground.... take the guy to the hospital and have it re-attached...

[collapse]

Also...
Spoiler

Lots and lots of hunters are DYING in these solo runs..... and these hunters are SO IMPORTANT.... why don't they just say no more solo runs???????

There's a problem with people 'PKing' in dungeons..... but apparently they can take technology into these dungeons AND the dungeons don't disappear right away (the author didn't really explain what happened when a dungeons was 'cleared' except that the dungeon authority would have to come in and get the bodies....)

So given that the bodies are still there, and they can take technology into the dungeon, why not just tell them that they have to wear a cameras?

Naw.... why bother.... just hire a HEALER to go into parties suspected of PKing and have him kill them... yeah..... that makes a LOT of sense....

[collapse]

I wanted to like this...I loved 'I Alone Level Up', but this 'Swordmaster Healer' reads like an 8th grade fanboy wannabe wrote it and added a lot of senseless face slapping. <<less

This is my first impression review of this novel, I've read the prologue and chapter 1. So far, we've been given a very rough idea of the overall storyline from the prologue, it is literally like 3 or 4 sentences, it's more like a synopsis rather than a prologue.

After that, chapter 1 goes onto further progress the plot. We're introduced to the main character, the stereotypical "weakling" trope is established. He goes to be looked down upon and the whole shpeal progresses in a very predictable way.

The main problems I... more>> have with this novel as of chapter 1 are the fact that it launches straight into rpg elements after little to no world building. We learn that there's an organization called "hunter something bureau" and that the MC is flat broke. Then it launches directly into dungeon exploring and rpg game like elements. We don't even know why these "dungeons" exist. It's all very game-like. After they enter the first dungeon, they encounter the very stereotypical "goblins" and after the first such encounter, the rest of the dungeon is skipped completely to the boss room, no tough fight, no getting lost, no other rpg or game elements are exposed besides that first encounter. They finished the goblins and then the next sentence segments into them being in front of the boss room.

After that, the story gets progressively more and more gory and dark. Multiple characters we were introduced to half a paragraph ago instantly get killed for no other reason than just "because". It's all very melodramatic. The female character that was with the first antagonist is stereotypically left alive even though she has been about less than half as useful as Sakura was in the first half of Naruto.

OVERALL: The pacing is very rushed, we're introduced to MC, MC establishes his weak persona, we're thrown into a dungeon group, the author exposé's the first dungeon encounter, then we're launched into the boss room and half the people we were introduced to 15 sentences ago are now dead. <<less

It's worth reading regardless of the MC's personality. It has the standard adventure in dungeons and troubles with fellow hunters with enough action to make reading it enjoyable. So here's my thought, I think it's a total bullsh*t that a story is labeled as total garbage just because of the MC's personality. I mean, the sociopath attitude of the MC has its own foundation which is taken from his previous life who is a righteous but ruthless knight who was betrayed by very empire he served. He's doing everything right... more>> now to take his revenge and at the same time, protect his new home from the invasion of his former empire. It's an enough of a plot to go around of a cliche Korean novel and it at least deserve that kind of credit. <<less
