Callius von Jervain.

A character who dies no matter what he does. A character who falls into a forced choice route where he can only die, no matter his choices up to that point. However, there is a single route where the character can live and play the game.

And I have to carve out that route somehow.

Because I’ve become Callius von Jervain in the game.

Not exactly the best novel, but I'm giving it 5 stars because at least the author is trying spice up the formula and is putting in the effort. Definitely worthy of more readers, and I hope the translators can pick up the pace too.

This novel is pretty good. Though, sometimes I was confused with the dialoge, like I didn't know who was talking in that conversation. But overall, it's good.

This is just my opinion but I hate the herectic inquisitor so so so much. That Sygid or Whatever kept doubting the MC's ability. It's been 3 years, THREE YEARS since he finally met the MC but look, that arrogant, doubtful, s*upid inquisitor continued to chase after the MC despite that blue-haired girl's testimony. What a cheeky punk! He talked like he knows it all about the MC. 'As if you are the MC himself, huh!'

Anyways, let's stop my 'personal bias' here. This novel is great and promising, recommend for you guys who are still hesitating. 😉

It has everything I ever wanted in a fantasy novel. I began reading it on a whim and blazed through the chapters; until I got to the latest chapter (30 non-MTL as of today), I couldn't put it down. Even read ahead more than 60 chapters through the MTL version out there, which is quite unusual for me.

Strong, proactive MC? Check.
Dark, unforgiving world? Check.
Original, intriguing concepts? Check.

The character's personalities are well developed. They seem real, and the dialogue is fresh.
MC acts his age and has a charismatic... more>> personality. Fights are well written and dynamic. The comedic moments deliver, I found myself chuckling often.

My only misgiving is that it has some Deus Ex Machina situations. Nothing intolerable, though.

Well, well above average for a novel on this website.
People who enjoy gritty and violent dark fantasy worlds; Strong, determined MCs will like this novel. The religious/magic system is pretty original, honestly.

Spoiler

MC has a daughter, and their interactions are endearing. It's a big plus for me. You don't usually see MCs with children/family in this kind of novel, not this early at the very least. As of chapter 91, it's undeniably good; what's even more remarkable is that it managed to be so good despite the atrocious MTL I read.

Read the initial chapters; if you enjoyed them, you will probably like the rest. <<less

Give this 3, 5*

But really, sometimes Korean Novel just turn me off so much. Like so many unnecessary descriptions, which is worse since the novel itself has abysmal descriptions over some stuff that need to be described.

Example:

A carcas with a Darker Blue Blade than before was made.

A Blue Blade like that meant a Lifesword.

The Dark Blue Blade of the Carcas proved this.

Lifesword

Like... That thing doesn't need to be explained over and over when what you mean can be explained in one single sentence.

It's really funny because the fighting scene left me with whats going on. Some things even needed more description to elaborate but it's just three of four words made up sentence, and next.

But I still give this three point five just for the maybe potential to be great. But yeah, I can do with better description overall since it annoys me so much. <<less

It's addicting. Once you started, you can't help but got hook till you are in the latest chapter. I try reading this without knowing the plot, character nor setting so I experience infinite of guesses of who is who, how will the story develop and what is really the story all about. But hey, it's fun.

There is a certain degree of uniqueness compared to cliche settings for Korean novels, and maybe what makes me wants to read more are the cliffhangers. It is not because the translator's fault, instead it... more>> is the original author's intention to keep his readers in edge to see what's next and ended up losing their sleep for more chapters.

The characters are also literally diverse. The side characters have their own persona - tho that doesn't exempt them from the dog eat dog type of world this story have. And I don't know if should give a warning but welp, I don't want spoiling anyone.

So far the story is going well, and the translation is also well-written as for there are addtl. Info provided in the notes so meaning, translator do their research which shows their effort to give a satisfying read for us, freeloaders. The updates might be slow & random, but I'm used to it - it balanced out irl and my free time. I'm saying this to warn those wanted massive updates.

That's it for my review. And yes, this is an edited version of my early review. <<less

So I have mixed feelings on this one?
The weird enter your own world/videogame/isekai sh*t is kinda used okayish? The main MC isnt a walking talking deus ex machina, its close but not quite horrible. The side characters seem interesting, except for every once and awhile we get stabbed in the face by the author reminding us that everyone are story characters within a story.
This is where my mixed feelings come from. The overall plot is somewhat good, the fantasy setting is off kilter and makes for a war... more>> filled world that isnt totally f'ed.... But the main character tilts from rising action hero to evil video game player trying to maximize his rewards... Which I totally understand. I play rpgs a lot and finding the perfect path, or making the decision that most resonates with me is important... but when the main character does this, it reminds the reader that we arent actually on an adventure. the f'ing MC is playing a video game, with stat screen, weird super power missions and rewards and everything.... and it just destroys the flow and believability.
The entire story should be rewritten as an actual fantasy story, and it wouldnt even be that hard to do so. <<less

I like the setting and world building a-lot which the author put a nice amount of thought into though he does struggle when it comes to building tension and side characters it seems to be improving as the chapters go on. Overall quite a promising novel with a very unique concept.

Quite an enthralling character redemption story. It has some pretty good action mixed well with strong emotional beats, I especially adore the heavy focus on familial love over romantic love. While there is quite a bit of groundwork for a harem I’m hopeful it won’t devolve into that sort of lame wish fulfillment. So long as it keeps going strong like it has I’ll be very very satisfied by it.

Also the protag is a little sh*t at times and I am so here for that energy

I like this novel a lot, the world sitting is quite dark but nonetheless the story itself is entertaining the protagonist is Op some may find it annoying but it all depends on how well the novel is written and in my opinion it's above average the side characters are flat that the only problem concerning me anything else no, I don't think the world building is bad nor the three years time skip anything to fuss over.

I was afraid it was either going to try and be extremely dark but I found that it had quite a good balance. The main character isn't afraid to kill but that isn't an important topic so far unlike other novels which have to remind the viewers every couple of pages. The writing when it comes to the game aspect is similar to tr*sh of the counts court, or the villain wants to live. If you enjoy those but want more violence this is for you.

It's a bit early to judge the novel entirely, but as of now, it's intriguing enough for me to continue. The setting is a dsystopian (?) -like world where killing is common and expected. Like those typical Wuxia novels.

At first, I thought that the MC had a lack of depth in his character and was one of those typical indifferent MC's. That label was quickly proven wrong as the author goes more into his character. I hope this continues and his character development will progress more in the future chapters.

A... more>> great thank you to the translation team! Because of you, I found this gem and held onto it instead of giving it up. I encountered a lot of gems but sadly the translation was not good enough that it dulled them instead of polishing them. So yes, kudos to you <<less

pretty good. Went in expecting a silly and edgy novel but this one is more like the typical g r I m d a r k fantasy stories out there: It has great world-building and interesting enough characters while also being rather cruel and unforgiving. Still, it doesn't manage to escape from a very contrived plot designed to give the MC a couple setbacks while he power-levels, arrogant young masters, and otherwise every sort of korean webnovel trope, which stops it from being a really good novel, something that I... more>> would find on the best-sellers section in a book store, for example.

Overall, it's a great novel though not perfect.

Also, amazing translation effort but just needs a bit more editing and it'd be a perfect 10/10 doesn't matter if it's a MTL. <<less

It's good but I think that it's rated to high. The novel itself is intriguing and endearing but some tropes that are used are plain awful and at other times you can only think to yourself the author is really feeling himself huh so it takes from the immersion overall I definitely reccomend this

I don't get why everybody praises this for originality. It's pretty much the same premise as villain wants to live. Dude gets summoned inside the game he designed as a character with many many death flags. As for main character, it's the korean MC. Still dead people turning into swords sounds fresh.

I dislike it for two reasons. First Bard's Blessing is bullshit. It's a musical talent skill. Yet his supposed musical talent let's him cheat in dice games, listen far away conversations and translate intent of foreign languages.

Second. He is... more>> compelled to act a certain way because he has a "Scapegrace of the Count Family". But for some reason his decency skill "Nobility’s Duty" haven't triggered once so far. (Unsurprising since it's a "Korean MC" and something like "unwritten obligation of people from a noble ancestry to act honorably and generously to others" is not what you'd expect from a korean protagonist.) <<less
