Sweet Heart in Honeyed Desire

Even if he was utterly ignorant about baking, Yu Yi, as the CEO of a Restaurant Chain Corporation, had an even pickier palate than a top-class Michelin Chef.

And Tang Mi, nicknamed Sweetheart, was the most delicious dessert he had ever eaten.

This is a novel about the growth of the male and female lead’s warm affections.

Sweet Heart sets out to do its purpose: provide teeth rotting sugar. A reader commented it's similarity towards My Lovely Kim Sam Soon and true, from what I vaugely remember, it has the same theme. Food. There's not much to say since the journey was quite smooth sailing. Not much conflict to go from and if there is, usually resolved immediately. All in all, a short but enjoyable read.

Considering the handling of the split personality disorder, it's a mixed bag. I am not quite sure what the author wants to do half the time and since this is lighthearted, it wouldn't delve much deeper on Yu Yi's pysche. I think it's more a of gimmick than any real use. His Other was quite entertaining since he's compensating for Yu Yi's detachment and lack of interest towards interpersonal relations and emotions. Aka he's there to fulfill his innermost desires and as a result is more proactive.

This is a good, solid, easy-to-read and enjoyable story, as expected from this author. I just binge-read the whole thing and never got tired.

What I love the most is that, although the MC and some of the other characters have some liveliness about them, the writing always keeps things measured and intelligent (compared to many romcoms). Cliches are also not taken too far and so don't become annoying.

The slightly more serious aspects aren't too heavy, so they don't weigh it down - and the author herself acknowledges that her portrayal... more>> of a mental disorder is probably not completely accurate - I found I was able to ignore the flaws, but it can be a sticking point for some.

One warning about the translation = After the translator switches part-way through (it's still a decent, if slightly inferior, translation), occasionally, when a chapter is posted in two parts, part 2 has been posted before part 1 - so just keep an eye on the number in the chapter titles to avoid reading those few out of order. (At 31/1/2019.)

=============

Part of Ban Li Zi's (AKA Chestnut) "Truly Precious" shared universe. Most of the stories are not directly linked; there are usually small references to characters from previous stories (e.g. Film Emperor Mo from the first book) and occasionally very minor spoilers. It's not necessary, but (where possible) I recommend reading in order to appreciate references and cameos, if not to avoid the occasional little spoilers.

The best thing I loved about this story is the heroine. She is a. Art, emotionally mature and thinks before leaping to conclusions. She researches her idea and does not blindly jump to s*upid solutions.

The ML is too cute. He is also pretty possessive of her

Like making her a permanent employee before the probation period has ended, grabbing her attention competely whenever her ex-crush comes to meet her, he even gets jealous of her best-friend!!! It's pretty funny that the cold personality uses the sexy personality to vent out his *true* feelings like when Lu Xin demanded Li Chen to never visit the restaurant again ?

Fluffy, romantic and generally an easy-read. If you've been overdosed with too much drama or action and have not received enough resolution, I suggest taking a break and giving this one a chance. With just slightly over 60 chapters, one could finish reading it in a day or a day and a half.

The only thing to improve here is the translation by Babel Realm at half-point since Radiant stopped translating it. There is a lot of editing needed and half of the time I have to wonder who exactly is... more>> being referred to since the pronouns are all jumbled up. He, him, his - male; she, her, hers - female. Easy, right??? <<less

It's fine and everything, but the one (very small) thing that annoys me is that while Tang Mi's ex-boyfriend got to explain his reasons for leaving her in the past, she never explains either to him or to Yu Yi about what happened. After reading so many of these romance stories, it's so disheartening to see the male leads being able to expunge themselves of past events while the female leads are never given the opportunity to explain their side of the story. I guess the author thinks that because... more>> we, the reader, can see what's going on inside Tang Mi's head, the character doesn't need to say it out loud. It would solve so many misunderstandings if she did thought.

... The unfairness ruffles me the wrong way, but as it's so minor as to be insignificant. haha.

I also felt like the romance between the two leads came about because of the plot and genre rather than because of chemistry (which did develop later). As most of Tang Mi's experiences are with Yu Xin rather than Yu Yi, it was jarring when she started dating Yu Yi, especially as I actually preferred Yu Xin as a character... <<less

It's quite cute and fluffy. Too bad it isn't edited. The grammar in the latter half of the translations is giving me a coronary.

A very cute, fluffy and sweet story about a pastry chef, who makes very delicious cakes, and the CEO of a chain of restaurants [?] who has a picky tongue and

a split personality.

[collapse]

The interactions between the characters are adorable and amusing, and the plot isn't too melodramatic and intense but very lighthearted (as of Chapter 30).

Reading too much melodramatic plots makes me feel tired so this one gives me just the right doze of 'healing'. Definitely worth reading. ✩✩✩✩✩

So I cry when Yu Xin the alter said goodbye... I like him better than Yu Yi, he is more open and expresses himself, I just don't like how FL handled it when they are official in a relationship.. when they aren't together she liked the company of Yu Xin but after she started to cast him away... then she also falls for Yu Yi and choose him although as partner of having a split personality you have to really love them both or the alter may start to make... more>> trouble. But still for her Yu Xin's character is just for the second lead and Yu Yi is more ideal the black bellied over bearing ceo.. I don't know why still many women love that type of a man.. and find it more attractive than the sweet, caring, and expressive person. The second thing I don't like in this story are again the toxic parents.. it seems that toxic parents are rampant there.. I don't if they are s*upid or just blind.. clearly their son is sufferimg but they do nothing, instead they still force him to do what they like.. their son is already at the stage of su*cide yet they didn't care.. instead of being thankful that their son has now finally open his heart they still didn't accept it.. that's why his alter keep coming out. But all in all I like the fluff between Yu Xin and Tang Mi.. it makes me crave for dessert. <<less

He has a split personality, the engagement out of nowhere, her reaction to his split personality and just the whole mood of the story just shifted out of nowhere.

As expected of Chestnut! Another butterfly inducing and fluffy novel.

MC is like, literally perfect, I guess. Aside from her broken family>> but both her parents are like rich and was only exposed when it was litrally needed. Her background was too good to be true and something that can only happen in the novel.

Everything was smooth-sailing.

... more>> MC is cold but sweet. I especially like this split personality as it is written well.

Everything is good, just that my only qualm is that when ML asked MC to be his girlfriend literally out of nowhere, MC agreed despite not showing any romantic interest. Thinking about it, other MC's of Chestnut's novels are also like this, getting together despite showing little to none romantic interest. Other than that, there's nothing. Just fluff.

So this has a very light plot. Just fluff. There are some conflicts but they are on the lighter side and quickly resolved. I would regard it like uh... some sprinkles just to make the food more presentable? Something like that. I was drooling though when the MC describes the desserts she baked because it really was described beautifully. 5 stars because even though it didn't have so much spice in it, the romantic banters of the characters saved the story.

This is the 2nd novel I've read of Chestnut. If you've a sweet tooth (personally I don't), if you love to try new types of deserts then this is your ultimate destination. Chestnut never disappoints, her research about her characters can be seen through her writing.

Though ML gives off the vibe of a chinese perfect and cold male lead, but the quirk in him is the biggest point in the novel. I won't say it or it'll be a downright spoiler. Read it on your own, only then can you... more>> enjoy it to the fullest. The first half of the novel, ML is emotionless but in the latter half, he was awkwardly cute.

Our MC, FL is a pastry chef. How her career takes off (taking off with our ML on the way >_^) is the main trajectory. But nothing to worry, there isn't any stereotypical competition or angst. It's just a simple love story of an aspiring pastry chef who makes delicious deserts and an unique emotionless but awkward CEO who like to eat delicious deserts!

P.S:

I like ML but no matter what, I like Yu Xin more! My boyfriend goal! I cried when Yu Xin said goodbye T_T

Spoiler Alert:

After finishing this novel, when I was having dinner a thought came to my mind-

Isn't the male lead and the second male lead in this novel the same?! @_@ <<less

Sorry but this story is so shallow I mean the female lead is so narrow minded like seriously I couldnt even continue reading it. It was by far on the top worst stories ever. The plot was okay but whats wrong with the female lead we're supposed to love her not to hate her. She's like these s*upid girls that think the wrong way I mean like seriously first she wasnt into the male lead and the she found out hes so handsome so she s trying to get close... more>> to him n shes calling him and all akhhhh n then here we thought lin che was her boyfriend or that he left her n he left her broken hearted but noooooooo it turns out that she wasnt even dating him she was gonna confess but lin che ruined her plans whyyyyyy because the boy wanted to pursue her career abroad. Like seriously build up ur characters more its really embarassing reading this shit. <<less

This is a story about a striving patissiere and a cold CEO in the food business. This story portrays the saying, "the way to a mans heart is through his stomach". Pure fluff and sweetness, specially when the CEO started liking the female lead.
