Year 2056, in a city in the Yuan Jiang Su Jin area. On top of a ruined, shattered six story residential apartment sits a teenager wearing a combat vest, militaristic trousers, and alloyed battle boots. On his back is a hexagonal shield and equipped is a blood-shadow battle knife. He sits there silently on the edge of the roof. At this time, the sparkling sky was shining and there was a refreshing breath within the air that blew towards him. However, there was only silence within the ruined, deserted city, with an occasional howl that makes your heart skip a beat.

Mind numbingly boring! The early chapters were quite good. Lots of action and the story was actually moving, then it went into outer space (literally) and it was downhill from there. All the MC did was find a special and powered up technique, study and train, and then conquer, then repeat. NEVER ENDING studying manuals and training for years and decades and centuries, gud gad! I am so annoyed!

That wasn't the only thing I found annoying... his family! I truly believe that a hero in an adventure story should not... more>> have a family. They'd just be baggage that would drag him/the story down. That's the end of my rant. <<less

  1. Is been long since I read this novel. I think it was three yrs ago, but I dropped it. And now I finish the remaining chapters. Rating:

World building: 5/5 - I think world build was good

Plot: 3.5 Adventure and fighting to protect and become most powerful, . And since it's author is "I eat tomatoes" the novel was fast paced. But the downside for me was the MC is too lucky. Many coincidence. MC backings were too powerful

MC: 4/5 - the MC is intellegent, , hardworking and havekind personality. However there something lacking to MC action and lack of character development I think.

Side character/ support character :3/5 because there are and the novel was past faced, many characters disregard quickly and some are lacking of spotlight.

Since I drop this 3 yrs ago and finish it just now. All my review was more base in the last 300 chapter of this novel

    Sorry for my grammar.

I actually picked this novel up after stumbling upon its anime, which got me hooked up. I read through 900+ chapters until they switched translators, then it went downhill for me, all terms got messy and the english was butchered, until I slowly lost the pleasure of reading it and eventually dropped the novel at c940. This is really sad for me, because I love this novel but couldn't bring myself to continue reading it.

The strongest point of this novel for me is the world building, it's incredible and vast.... more>> There is so much to explore and the pace is slow but steady. I also like how the MC is never overpowered, he's just talented and have some lucky encounters. He slowly climbs his way to the top, and it's highly satisfying when he finally triumphs. He's a cool MC, cold and calm, but affective towards his family and friends. Although watch out for some 'highly patriotic' moments in this novel, where the author shows a glimpse of racism, always putting chinese on a pedestal. <<less

Given the ratings and tags I thought it will be different from typical cliche chinese drama but nope

MC come from poor family, work hard n got power, female lead likes him cause of some saving n the rich guys that like FL attack MC and his family cause he's rich enough to pay off anything legal

The Face slapping come fast and boring n MC suffers under the hand of rich guy while day dreaming bout fl

What happened to the romantic subplot tag, I barely tolerate Romance in my novel and... more>> this should just be tag as romance since the 2 destined Cp of poor but hardworking MC x high class but airhead of FL that doesn't even noticed guys fighting over her.

The 1 star is just for the beautiful animation while plot n everything is just recycled <<less

I cant recall what chapter I read to, but it was after MC went into space.

The thing about this novel, according to my brother, is that it's a new and original idea when it first came out in 2010.

I found it interesting at the start but when he entered space and got involved with the laws of the universe, it went straight into cultivation novel again. Not really much of a difference, comprehending dao and stuff.

I enjoyed it. It gets long and some parts were a slog. Had to MTL for the back half because the translation wasn't finished. There's some s*upid Chinese nationalism in the front half but they leave that behind on Earth for the most part. Don't expect anything groundbreaking, although I do enjoy how his abilities play out. The space aspect is fun. I would recommend it to anyone looking for the super long, action/fighting Chinese LN experience.

This is one of the novels that has managed to leave a lasting impression. From the way the world was built from the start up to where it started heading was honestly unique in my opinion, and I've read hundreds of different ones.

First time I found this was back in 2017, and it's been a long 3-4 years to see this completed.

I have quite a few thoughts I'd like to write about, but I'll keep it short for non-spoiler:

... more>> Do I recommend this novel? Absolutely.

What did I dislike most? Toward the end things became a bit too grandiose for my taste. I'm not sure if the author wasn't planning on ending the series yet or if he was just forced to drag things on after he lost motivation/ideas, but the final arc pulled a deus ex machina to a degree I disliked. The last 2 chapters which kind of count as epilogue weren't bad though. It cleaned things up fairly well. <<less

This is a solid "poor kid becomes a god-level fighter" story. It has a nice pace, lots of power-ups and face-slapping and it is also really fun to read all the clichés and short-commings and plot-holes. It is so bad it becomes good again! 4*

Spoiler
  • The brother is a useless cripple with a god-given money-talent
  • The father is a poor and honest manual worker that gets bullied by the kid the MC has a grudge with
  • The MC gets pissed very fast of and tr*shes three "elites", and overall he has a terrible temper, but he gets lauded as "calm and even tempered"
  • The MC gets lauded as smart, hard-working and with good grades, but after his third "coma", he just decided to f*ck it, throw his diploma away and handle things with brawns over brains
    • After he gets thrown into prison, why is he sure he can solve everything himself?
    • Why does he not go and tell someone trusted (the organization that just "bought" him with 200 mil) so they can protect their asset?
    • Why does he take the measly 1 mil from the knife-throwing kid?
    • Why does he not tell anyone about the thunder-school poaching offer? His "supervisor" would have probably given him a counter-offer to keep him tightly in their dojo.
  • How do the scenes go from "insane grudge" to "lul, we got an esper in our team" so fast, after they get ambushed by the tiger squad in the wilderness?
  • Why is the MCs motivation such a mess?
    • Live an ordinary and peaceful life? -≫ Take the 20 mil and STAY HOME! You already got a villa, dude
    • Become the world top fighter? -≫ Tell your dojo that you are an Esper, get access to the high-level manuals and trainers for free in the main city
      • Become the world top fighter to cure your brother? -≫ Nah
      • Become the world top fighter to win your first high-school crush? -≫ YES!
    • Stay in a mediocre and back-water team that you just met three days ago and where you already are the strongest member? -≫ f*ck YES!
      • Remember, the MC and his family didn't bat an eye to leave their poor neighbourhood and move to a villa asap
  • Either the world is in danger and we need the super-human fighters to save us OR the fighters are mercenaries that can go in the wilderness for personal gains, get killed and no one cares.
  • What happened to his good brother from school after graduation?

It's a good story. I like how the author mixes cultivation with futuristic technologies.

I only have two complaints. The first is that there is too much math! Things like "A is 100000 times stronger than B, but C is 1000000 times stronger than B, that's why C can beat A" etc were repeated so many times that my head hurt. The second problem is that all the races, be it beasts, machines or rock life forms, are too much human-like! They have very human-like emotions, like anger, envy, even their... more>> sarcasm is like ours. So if those different races behaved at least differently, the story would be more believable.

In the end of the story there are no loose ends, and almost all mysteries are solved. It was a great adventure. <<less

Finished reading it. I tried to get to it many many times but the start was so underwhelming I just couldn't start reading it. After I got through the hard part of starting the book it got better and better. For me, it is between the #1 and #2 favorite books I have read. The thing is that the story is based in our world and not some totally different world which I loved. All I can say is that it is worth reading 10/10 but the last chapter was... more>> really underwhelming it left me in the mud with that ending which made me give this book a solid 4.5/5 (It would be a 5 star if not for that ending) <<less

First of all the novel is a great one. The plot doesn't repeat itself a lot, even though it does a couple of times, which is inevitable.... more>>
Spoiler

Luo Feng, the main character starts out with talent, and hard work, no treasures. As his willpoweris really high, he activates his spiritual energy even before he starts cultivating which probably enchanted his talent even more? He starts out as an elite, already fated to become a warrior in the future, yet because of his overflowing talent, he becomes one earlier. Then he starts cultivating, working hard and before he is 30 he stands on top his own world, earth. At the beginning the story the genre is like science fiction and mystery. After he becomes a student of the Yun Mo, who is an undying fighter, Eight stage of cultivation, the genre slowly shifts into fantasy one, yet we still see a lot scifi elements, which make that part of the novel really fun to read. After that he joins a tournament, and becomes one of the select geniuses of his generation, although not the most talented one, and gets accepted in to a superpower sect like organization for humans. And he just keeps getting stronger through hard work, even though he also possesses great luck, he has also suffered a lot. He chooses the most difficult method to become a True God and even ens*ave a sector beasts, who in the end becomes a king and can rival godly kings in it's peak?

[collapse]
The protagonist is clever and hardworking. He tries his best to have no regrets, values his family over anything, even his own life. "My life is splendid because of battle, bright because of you." Although the ending of the story is not as satisfying as Desolate Era, because of Lord Xue Ying, I still enjoyed the story and although it may not be a must read, I'm sure if you have a lot of free time in hand and are patient this book will definitely not be a waste of your time. <<less

I love the setting being more tech than magic, I liked the first arc but the second is bad

The second arc is after he obtained a fortune, but the only option in his mind is to buy s*aves for earth protection, never EVER crossed in his mind to hire a mercenary (when a few chapters ago he saw them in the virtual reality and the lower member on that merc group was in universe level).

Another thing is that I really hate hong and thunder god and hope they die in... more>> the next few chapters, LF treat them as his long life friends and they are some old dudes that brings nothing to the story.

Im struggling hard trying to keep reading, but I loved DE, CD and ST so I know that IET made a really good book here but I cant see it yet. <<less

Look, I get when people tell me that after v5 the novel gets much better but don't you think that it is a little too much, it is not needed for the MC to be op to make it interesting and I could make it through it somehow if this were setting for the future plot, however, it is like the novel is fooling around with you until he gets stronger and gives the feeling that MC is not a real person, almost like npc who has a background and... more>> acts according to that without development. Well, I'll try to read further and see how much it can improves. <<less

At first the novel is extremely good, it's one of the best, but later on it gets worse and worse and worse. It's like the author is becoming insane and he couldn't even use his brain. Now it's just like a typical cultivation novel just without romance and harem. Also it's disgusting that the MC can never exceed his peers, even losing out and becoming worse and worse and weaker. It feels so disgusting to continuously lose so many times to so many people. So revolting that I feel like... more>> killing the author. He even has the best of the best of the best body in the entire universe, better than anyone ever in history, yet he is so weak and useless, dying countless times to so many people that don't even have such a special body. This is purely strong to weak MC. Don't be deceived by the good beginning after you reach v12, you'll understand just how revolting the author is. The 2 star is purely the beginning of the novel. I won't put any good words for the later parts even if someone threatens me. It's just purely impossible. <<less

This is a 3 star series. The beginning is relatively interesting, but pulls a hard 180 after the first hundred chapters or so. The new direction isn't "bad" per se, but reads like a classic cultivation light novel.

I Eat Tomatoes has a particular style that is based around "redefining power levels". This can get tedious relatively quickly, as it makes most events feel inconsequential. "You thought these guys were strong? Nah, there's like 70 more levels above that". I can appreciate character development and growth, but when the only thing... more>> that changes about a character is their "power level"... It becomes more ore about ideas than substantial plot.

To be fair to this story, I did finish it. I usually try to stick with a book I start, but I have left some in the middle if they become too tedious. This one got close, but I decided to push through it. After all, it gets better, right? Not really. As the quality deteriorates, you can expect the rest of the book to be at that level or below. It started at a solid 4, and finished at slightly below a 3. Not awful, but I feel no accomplishment for having completed it. Instead, I feel a sense of relief that it's out of the way so that I can look for something better that I might enjoy.

TL;DR - The beginning is pretty interesting, but the last 90% is like an entirely different story that just takes WAY too long. If you like lengthy cultivation, this may be for you. <<less

I had two major problems with this book

At first our MC seemed to be smart and careful, and then he became reckless and s*upid. In volume 4, MC kills a person who has extremely horrifying background for no reason at all. He could have avoided him, he had no enmity with him so had no reason to kill him. Yet he acted arrogantly without considering his future and parents lives just like s*upid yun che in ATG.

Then there's our translator. He adds expression "laughed" after every dialogue spoken by every... more>> character. He uses expression "coldly" and "glared" at the wrong time which completely ruined the mood.

If you like ATG then you may like this novel. I just couldn't like MC' personality. I read on novelupdates and finds out that MC will become even more reckless so I'm dropping it <<less

The first several hundred chapters of this are SOOO GOOOD. It's basically post-apocalytpic future mixed with sci-fi hyper-advanced dome cities. It's so fun and satisfying to see him traverse the concrete jungle, learning how to use his unique powers and fighting against hordes of truck-sized mutant bulls.

If you like post-apocalypse setting, a weak MC who gets stronger and satisfying fight scenes and futuristic weapons this is for you. 100% scratched all my itches.

TL;DR - Unless you either want to waste some time or are just a diehard IET fan you can just skip this one since it's probably his worst work imo.

The novel is quite good at the start and the MC is likeable and everything in the story makes sense. Then about a third of the way through everything goes to sh*t and nothing makes sense and even the wiki doesn't explain anything, add on poor translation (the translation quality seemed perfectly fine at first but at a certain point it... more>> suddenly gets worse, which I think is because of translation team change when it was moved to Qidian) and it just makes it a tedious mess and a chore to read.

I ended up stalling reading it for about a year and recently came back to it because I've been reading Lord Xue Ying and recently re-read Desolate Era and wanted more IET but I was pretty disappointed with this when compared to his other works.

I feel like after finishing it, there were a lot of chapters I could have skipped (I mean like, I could have literally skipped a few hundred chapters at a time and still have missed nothing important) and still been able to continue reading without the context of the skipped chapters.

Overall it's a 3 star since while it certainly has the foundations for a great novel it, in the end, falls short and left me feeling unsatisfied and wishing I hadn't wasted my time reading it. <<less

This is my second IET novel and I have to say, reading one is equivalent to reading all. All IET novels seem to have similar protagonists, similar plot and similar world-building. The universe in his novels blows up to ridiculous proportions such that it stops making sense. Earlier I had read desolate era and it had the same problem. Romance, I feel is a general weakness of CNs so I won't even comment on it.

The main problem with his works is the idealism that is deeply engraved in his protagonists.... more>> The protagonist is a genius, has the best human values and is a picture-perfect construct. Also, the protagonist feels fake. The protagonist makes no mistakes, never has weak moments and there is hardly much character development. The thrill and epicness in fights are also much weak. Rather than increasing the tension in battles, the scale of the battles increases. Huge figures are thrown out and about to make you believe that the battles happening is of epic proportions, but it doesn't make your heart pound with fervour.

Frankly, I would rate it 3.5 stars based on its entertainment value. Though I am biased as I would have given DE 4 stars as I had not read a similar story before. This novel is good for wasting time and is not something that you will feel the urge to re-read ever in your life. <<less

I have read many IET novels (CD, ST, DE, LXY) and I think I am done reading his novels. There is the usual crap that IET novels have:

  • The romance is tr*sh as always. Honestly, why does the author even bother to write it?
  • The characters have no depth. MC is a genius as usual, very devoted to family, hard-working, honest, righteous... the usual IET MC.
  • This is just another chinese cultivation novel masquerading as sci-fi. There is nothing sci-fi about cultivation so far.... no cyborgs, machinery parts, AI chip in brain etc, . I mean sure, the world has sci-fi stuff like AI computer or spaceships but when the main focus has no sci-fi elements (except telekinesis but not through technology means).
I honestly think that IET has no motivation to improve as... more>> a writer since he has found a safe formula to make money. I would rather try out new novels than waste time reading a novel where I already can predict the general path the story will take or that side characters have not relevance after 1 arc. I am pretty much done with IET's novels at this point. <<less
