One day, Katsuragi Daichi and his classmates found themselves in a different world. The god who summoned them to another world divided its power and gave it to them, saying that it wanted Daichi and the rest to defeat the Demon King as heroes. However, Daichi alone was given no abilities. And sure enough, Daichi was thrown away and used as a decoy in a demon’s den. Eaten by a demon, Daichi had lost consciousness and thought he had passed away, though when he came to he noticed his statuses had skyrocketed. He had obtained『Revenge of the Resented』. Every time he died, his abnormal ability powered up.

Do NOT read volume 4 unless it is posted after 1-1-2016. Reason is Author scrapped Vol 4 and is re-writing it. It was that god awful. When Vol 4 will be released is unknown if at all.

Vol 1 is an Arifuerta clone.... almost every thing in detail are the same in every way possible. Difference is MC here gains skills by dying, while in Arifuerta he gains them by eating monster meat. Everything else is the SAME. Vol 2 is where it starts to become it's own story more or less. Still entertaining, but again do not read vol 4, you WILL regret it.

The story of this novel is alright, it's a bit similar to arifureta but more fast paced. Basically being betrayed by his classmates, getting a superpower, working his way for revenge, getting a harem in the process, yada yada.
The style of writing leaves a lot to be desired, but it's average. It's lacking a lot in descriptions and the conversations between the characters are shallow because of it (as well as the world building).

The main point that drags this novel down though, is the characters... They're so very bland... more>> and dull. Because everything is fast paced, there is absolutely no connection to any of the characters that have time to be built. I can't sympathise with them at all.

The character development is out of whack too, in a very short period of time (3 sentences) the heroine goes from being a complete stranger to 200% loving and would willingly die for him (just one obvious example). The author is really bad at portaying any characters feelings in a moderately realistic way.

"Grr they were mean to me, bullied me, caused my death. Now I will cause their death! Grr... look at me I'm all angsty and I deserve to have everything & everyone" it falls flat... (this is my own opinion of how it is portrayed like in my eyes).

A good example how to do it right would be Arifureta. The main character emotions were portayed really well and made you feel how traumatised he was while developing a mad desire for revenge & to never be shackled by others ever again. Basically you could understand and sympathise with the character.

Anyway I would rate this as a 5/10 but this is with stars, so putting it with 3/5 instead. <<less

As of vol3. I read volume 4, but disregarded it after the author scrapped the entire volume to rewrite it. Just treat the existing volume 4 translated chapters of 2015 to be a "What if it's a BAD END" story.

As others have noted, the story bear a strong resemblance to Arifureta: an entire class transported by a goddess to a fantasy world to be heroes and fight monsters. The MC is bullied and gets no cheat powers, leading to his abandonment and quick death. He revived with inflated stats due... more>> to the blessings of another goddess who opposed the first, and he swore to have his revenge on those who had wronged him on Earth as well as on this new world...

It's pretty much a straightforward revenge story. Unlike Arifureta where the MC is distracted by side events, the MC Katsuragi Daichi is pretty much focused on having his epic revenge by ens*avement and mu*der.

The harem in this story starts off contrived and we do not really get a clear cut explanation about to their true feelings as they were bound by his ens*avement powers. There is love, idolization and jealousy bordering on obsession, loyalty bordering on fanaticism. The third volume fleshed out their feelings substantially, perhaps a little late for me. The change of the main female leads was a nice twist from other similar novels, though it gave me the impression that it was influenced by reader comments and not something planned by the author.

The revenge story itself could have ended in volume 3. The main antagonist is made out to be somewhat trivial at the end, leaving me with a sense of "What, that's it?". Readers will have to wait for the rewrite of volume 4 to see where the story goes from there on.

While others have enjoyed the story, I felt it offered nothing new and I did not enjoy Arifureta in the first place. Still, it is decently written and the first three volumes are paced quick enough to be read while idling. <<less

that was uploaded on 2015 the author will be redoing it so it's no longer canon.

I didn't read vol.4 but others said that

    1. Best girl died PERMANENTLY
    1. Hero Samejima revive as legendary hero
    1. Shuri got stabbed and only goddess Claria can remove it
    1. One classmate is a demon and betray mc
    1. MC become demons enemy

After so long, there is still no updates, which means the author probably dropped the story. I like the beginning story but towards the end it was absolute tr*sh. The author puts out a multiple chapter school life trial which was boring and not what I started reading the story for. The author then scraps vol4 because he knew he wrote a piece of shit. Don't read this if you don't like a discontinued novel with shitty last chapters that don't even end.

I'll keep things simple, and with a comparison in addition.

Comparison first: If you liked Arifureta then you will most definitely like Suterareta. In fact, Volume 1 of both series feels nearly identical. Nearly being that they, of course, are not exactly the same.

For the review : The plot was well developed, it had a good pace (imo) the characters were... like-able? (They were well developed, but not necessarily like-able I guess.) The world, the characters, the plot, none of it felt rushed. Up until Volume 4.

As the others have said,... more>> and I am 100% in support of what they have said, Volume 4 was scrapped. For a good reason at that. So, while there is a Volume 4 translated do NOT read it unless you're willing to

suffer excruciating amounts of heart-wrenching agony. Many situations of questioning why the author did this. Wondering what the hell happened to the pacing -- it speeds up more than just 'a lot'. And, lastly yet most definitely the most dissatisfying, you will likely suffer from mild depression if you loved one of the primary female protagonists. (Even more so if you think she is the better of the bunch.)

Total score (Not including V4) 4.1/5
Total score (Including the "current V4") 2.9/5 <<less

...I don't really have much to add. The comparisons to Arifuerta are apt and deserved. At this point group summoning = clench your bu*t because betrayal is coming.

But, while Arifuerta's MC embraces his inner edgelord anime fan like Anime Bruce Wayne, only to quickly find a harem surrounding him and typical shonen hijinks appears, Suterata... (this story) has a bit more emo wallowing in self pity and hatred.

Arifuerta's MC has a character arc briefly before more or less locking into a specific character for the rest of the story. While... more>> [THIS Story] has the MC hurt, angered, and lashing out in very permanent consequences that he slowly begins to regret.

The Infamous Volume 4. Yeah... it ain't pretty. A deus ex machina (litterally) in the villainous hero of light's favour and what seems to be the actual perma-death of a major character and the MC is left as a broken shell of his former self. I actually found it to be... intensely tragic and rage inducing... but not unreadable as a few characters from the sidelines got some very nice character development of their own as well as some fleshing out. Of course the whole volume is scheduled to being Retconed and despite my opinion on it I am not sorry to see it go.

On that note, over in Syotsetsu Land the rewrite appears to be in progress (finally). So if you can stomach MTL by Google Translate its ready for you. I do not care for it, though. <<less

I picked it up after Arifureta and I can say that is it basically identical for the first volume. I can say it is like teenage dream where nothing fits each other and it keeps going. MC is getting stronger by dying and suddenly starts to look different and behave different. The main problem is there is no consistency. MC died then resurrected and suddenly his victim syndrome is gone and he suddenly become somewhat intelligent.

Author didn't bother to introduce characters so it quickly dropped below average.

One of the characters just suddenly show up and declare that she loves MC and want to help him mu*der her friends without blink of an eye.

This novel is like an answer to all "reviews" of arifureta where they didn't like characters development after chapter 40. Here we have an answer to that and all we get is story that is pushed forward in the light speed where there is no development at all and everything is happening randomly. Volume 3 is a moment where author noticed that none of the characters have any depth but failed at making them less boring. I literally can't remember single name of the character after reading three volumes. <<less

If you're interested in this, I'd say you should read Volume 1 and Volume 2. Volume 3 and 4 are disappointing. The MC isn't really that dense, which is quite refreshing.

Volume 3 just had to have a trial of love. A trial of love. Next, volume 4 just had to kill a main heroine off, and then the author realizes his mistake in killing best girl so he dropped it.

Suterareta Yuusha started good and gets better, but then... got cut.
In the beginning, there were some similarities with Arifureta, but the plot development and character personalities took a different direction. The MC was not someone who could let go and forgive betrayal and bullying, so the revenge he took were bloody, lays the foundation for many potentially interesting plot. However, the author apparently failed to plan the plot despite having built such good foundations, so it lost focus after volume 3 ended and subsequently got halted after volume 4.... more>> Really unfortunate. <<less

Nearly same but not as good as Arifureta... MC is not ruthless but revenge plot is good where as in Arifureta MC has no desire for revenge but he is ruthless... I like the MC of Arifureta better after reading the ongoing story. Well the common part about both of the webnovel is in starting both the mc's were bullied, same fighting for the kingdom, war between two spices and gods (well later it found out that shity god is one in arifureta), same dungeon conquering etc etc...50% r copy... more>> I guess upto 30 chapters (that's how long I hav read)..

It looks like the author is trying to bring some unique, but let's see... <<less

I would recommend this story for those who like the whole “heavily bullied kid gets revenge buy mu*dering all his classmates” situation, but it’s just not my cup of tea. It’s well written, the cheat of the MC is interesting and unique, and the supporting characters aren’t bland. Can’t judge the quality of the story, because I stopped reading it in the middle of the second volume.

If I would enjoy the “revenge” thing more I’d give it 4/5, but considering my taste I’ll be an a**hole and give it 3/5.

This started off great, but the MC is very unlikable. He borders on becoming worse than the people he wants revenge on and he is very mentally weak. The first volume is great, but I couldn't make it past the second. The plot is also quite good in terms of world building. The romance is pretty poor, the female love interest is basically a plank of wood with breasts & has no personality or rapport with the MC.

But its the MC that ruined this for me. He comes across as... more>> a snivelling whining weakling that cant do anything without a power boost and not a hero who grows mentally & physically. He faces challenges but he is basically immortal so there's no real threat. The only difference between him and the people he hates is power. In fact, he's probably much worse. I ended up wanting him to loose.

Story: 6.5
World building: 6.5
MC: -1 <<less

I won't vote a star review for now but I'll leave my opinion. There's a distinct look alike from the novel arifureta. But while the MC there clings to his sanity, the MC in this story is out for revenge and volume 2 and 3 is not here so I didn't read volume 4 yet since it's interesting.. Will give a star once I have read all of the chapters.

The Epic Tale Of the Forsaken Hero is about a transported person and gets abandoned in a dungeon which gives him the power [Revenge of the Resented]. So when he dies, he powers up. You're going to say : pretty cheat like, so he's going to kill himself multiple times to lvl up in the first chapters ? No, he's still going to have a solid progression with occasionnal deaths. Why ? First, plot convenience and second, I suppose that dying hurts like hell. Let's not forget that his main... more>> goal is to slay his classmates so basically, he doesn't have to kill/tire himself too much because he's OP.

He also gains other abilities and you'll see that it's not a solo journey, he still gains companions and everything has a nice build up... Currently, as I'm writing this, the Volume 4 is going to be rewrited because the author didn't like the direction it was taking so he's going back on his tracks. That's a little weird but well... There are some dead moments during the novel, that's why I put a 4, the fights aren't that amazing but the harem building and the progression is pretty smooth. <<less

I cringed so hard reading this, his personality after death is nothing like a bullied person. Shuri's sudden change suddenly becoming inlove with MC is so surreal. The skill is way too OP and he chooses not to abuse it for no real reason.

It certainly has an unusual betrayal element, but... am I the only one who thinks it's getting boring after the fourth volume? Cuz then, it just feels... average.
