This novel is such a gem! I love cultivation novels and I feel like I've read a good amount! Female authors tend to focus more on petty fights between woman, love triangles, overbearing male leads, and heavy romance etc. I actually enjoy the process that an author takes to explain cultivation, like IET or Lady Cultivator, I like the creative take of the cultivation methods. I enjoy the process of cultivation and everything about it! And I like reading about their fighting techniques. So yeah, I was surprised that there... more>> was this cultivation novel that explained the cultivation process but also included her fighting techniques! Female transmigration/cultivation novels tend to leave this out. So I read it and it was a great journey and I loved it!

Story starts with our heroine Liu Meiruo dying and being reborn into the Seventh Princess's body Qin Shuang! In her previous life she was a Martial God, but now shes just a waste. Sounds familiar, right? But what makes it different is that the author doesn't focus on petty fights between woman, love triangles, and overbearing male leads. The heroine is smart and decisive! The characters are good and all male leads ain't falling head over heels in love with the heroine, but they are definitely impressed by her. And what I like is that the heroine relies mostly on herself. She is a strong and capable female lead. The plot does follow the usual cultivation plot line, but in a way thats well-executed and engaging. Its a novel about cultivation and adventure. But if you don't like cultivation, this is probably not the novel for you. This seems to be the authors second work. Her first work is called Ultimate Female Fairy and I had read it because there was a manga on webnovel of it, 45 chapters in and its kinda slow, (novel version) I think theres more romance in her first novel, but anyways I like her new work better! If you like Phoenix Destiny, Lady Cultivator, An Unyielding Wind, Legend of Fuyao read this! <<less

A real hidden gem of a novel. I've been pleasantly surprised by how the author has tried new plot styles, relationships and a new MC (as compared to the previous book). This is really a hardcore Xianxia novel at its core with a deep focus on various forms of cultivation, pros and cons of each and the journey of the MC to slowly stumble and fall her way into the peak.

Characters

The MC, Qin Shuang does have some cheats early on in the series but the interesting thing is these aren't... more>> as obvious as you might first expect and in fact for a majority of the plot afterwards they aren't really too relevant. MC has amazing willpower and is extremely unafraid of danger, she pretty much lives by the code of where there's danger there's a big chance. All her cheat items were hard won, she does have a layer of plot armour allowing her to be the one to get there but it's explained in a way where if she hadn't done the early work before it was necessary she would have missed out on it.

The other characters in this world are highly complex in my opinion, they are not one dimensional and all have various layers to them, friends and family can easily turn on the MC when the situation calls for it or when benefits are involved while enemies can turn into friends just as easily. To me this is a much more realistic cultivation world where everyone is really only focused on how beneficial any action is for themselves.

As the MC progresses through the novel she does remember a lot of the older characters even if they never show up again in the story aside from select pickings here and there it's a kind of realistic moment for the MC where she realises cultivation is a lonely road, a road which in the end you only walk alone.

Spoiler

A lot of the MC's friends die, even ones you never expected to die can end up dying fully showing how this is a world ruled by the strong, where you can be stronger than someone but someone else could kill you just as easily there's no dumb revival mechanic or moment where she's too depressed to move on. She fully understands cultivation is cruel and going against heaven's will, if anything it's weird to live long as a cultivator.

World Building

Really good world building, realms are broken down and explained, pros and cons of each realm are explained and there's so much exploration in the novel, each vestige or ancient place has a unique element making it dangerous and a unique set of characters both good and evil that go with it.

What really sets the tone for it is how close of a shave it is for the MC for all of them, she doesn't always come out unscatched often she even comes out with a severe drawback due to being affected in a certain way by either an ancient ghost cultivator or by one of the mechanics. Basically you really can feel it's a dangerous world, the MC is never in a position where she can steamroll everyone else in a vestige and get off scot free.

Romance

This is a huge spoiler
Spoiler

the MC's love interest dies, Tian Chi is himself a complex character caught up in something he can't control, the way he leaves the plot is almost a jaw dropping moment in the sense where this is the part where MC's can usually pull some rabbit out of their hat or swear to revive them. In this case, up till the end he's essentially confirmed as 100% dead, with no hope for revival. Tian Chi has unfortunate circumstances throughout the novel, in fact I really do feel bad for him because I don't think he's ever been happy aside from when he's been with MC, in a way it really might have been better off this way as he was living an eternal war of fighting against (himself) the blood demon inside his body over control over the body.

[collapse]

Basically no romance, and I do think this is perfect for the character Qin Shuang is, she's so fiercely independent and focused that you never feel like she needs one, she reads like a person determined on being at the peak of cultivation and that's exactly how she is. As compared to the MC of the previous novel who

tried to revive the person she loved for god knows how long and remained stuck at her realm

[collapse]
this MC is more detatched from love as a whole, she doesn't mind the concept of a companion but won't actively seek for one or chain herself to it.

A great novel by the author, I wish it had continued for longer. <<less

The story is interesting so far but the translation quality isn't great. I was hoping to see it improve but I read some of the more recent chapters as well and it seems to be about the same. If an editor joins the translator or a new translator picks it up I'd be excited to read this

First thing I have to say is that its a very rare kind of novel - a cultivation novel with a female MC, where she's both independent, powerful and generally badass af.

Second thing I have to mention is that there is no romance, effectively rendering this novel something of a one-of-a-kind on this site.

The author mainly focuses on world-building, creating a dynamic environment for the protagonist to act in, where characters and their factions are constantly making allies and enemies between each other and everybody has an agenda. The world... more>> is shown from all sides of conflicts and rather than feelings that it revolves around MC, it feels like the MC gets caught up in the insanity.

The fight scenes can get intense but I like it how, often times, the circumstances cause no clear winner or loser to appear as everybody has some kind of trump card or reliance.

There's no shortage of schemers and planners and enemies can switch their alignments pretty fast. Like, one moment they are battling to the death, the other something happens and everybody becomes an ally.

Though, of course, there are also quite a few morons. The magic system is pretty hard. It's not explained absolutely thoroughly, but there is a lot of explanation about the lore and branches of the magical system : alchemy, blacksmithing, talisman and formation making etc. Its pretty fun.

The cultivation system is pretty good. There is a lot of room for speculation on how it can go <<less

This is MTL, not a translated story. (it says as much in the blog's title "Endlessdream7 MTL translations of chinese novels")

Should it even be listed here? I might be wrong, but I was pretty sure MTL did not qualify to get listen on NU... though that is a conclusion I came to purely through observation, so I really might be wrong.

Anyway, the story itself seems great, really, at least from what I can make out from it.

Just takes a while to get what the sentences mean, since it's translated... more>> just enough to be readable, but not to the point that it's understandable throughout.

Decent MTL, which I hate, since almost no translator would want to translate something that basically already exists, but it is only barely readable as it is, meaning we will most likely never see a decent translation of what seems like a great novel. <<less

After reading this novel, all I can say is that this novel has raised my standards for reading novels.

Now, I can't read other novels without comparing them to this one.
