“Slaughtered the God Blood organism ‘Black Beetle’. Received the God Blood Black Beetle’s Beast Soul. Used the God Blood Black Beetle’s flesh. Randomly obtaining 0 to 10 points of God Gene(s).”

4.5/5 just wanna give it high star since I made it to 2352, means it's worth reading and must not be boring for me to last 2/3 of the story.

Although I only have vague memory. But I still remember most of the key moments like: might become a spoiler so I'm hiding it:

Spoiler

how he started to be strong (it's written in summary lol). His other identity as dollar and etc. His love life and his baby. I still remember when he and his baby (idk the name, little flower, I think) walk to this certain tree branch and the little branch with something extended for lil flower and the crowd was bewildered. Plus when they went to a certain planet and hours only passed but it turned out to be 10 years. And etc.

[collapse]

I might find way back here again in the future... Although I already jumped to the end 3 days ago, I read the last and 2nd to the last chapter or of curiosity lol.

Just leaving a review to keep tabs on the chapter where I stop. I didn't drop it completely, but I just gotten used to reading multiple novel whenever I get bored due to reaching a boring phase on a certain novel. Or just when I suddenly got the urge to read a different genre.

Far too long.

The key answers to main questions are drip fed as slowly as possible, keeping the reader in perpetual annoyance. In a long series, you need to keep your reader interested, which this failed to do. MC by this point is already powerful, has a high ranking girlfriend, looks after his mother and sister, so there is really no direction to go in. It does seem to create some mystery behind his father, and grandfather, but the important answers are too slow in coming. It feels like an optional... more>> extra, rather than the main plot, and I don't feel as if there is anything more to the MC's story that I really care about.

While I like the power system and concept, it drags on, with the MC basically having to start over, again and again at each stage.

It also doesn't feel like there is an end goal, or point to it all. Climbing to the top is nice and all, but you need a reason to focus on one of them, from start to finish. This felt like it lost the reason for me to stay interested, wishing the MC all the best, but not really bothered by how far he gets. <<less

In one word "meh"..

Not worth the read..

It's a time killer for those that have it. After 3462 chapters, I gotta say, not worth the time to read all that. Typical Chinese novel that's about the word count. Whole lot of words without any substance to them. The world building was somewhat interesting but that to didn't end well. As always there's the "sky above sky" cliche to it. Story jumps around, a lot! Goes from something interesting to some shitshow. And so on and so forth. Can't really remember the... more>> characters as there are that bad to remember, no personality to 99% of them. Too much plot armor on our MC. Bad character development on all sides (on some it's none-existent, the main; side characters; the villains and the "girls"... <<less

Very unlikeable MC. Any first meeting with the other s*x starts with him grabbing their b**bs or ass accidentally or intentionally. He is greedy. I don't see much love being shown to family or friends other than some empty talks. Also whats the point of him being Overpowered Dollar if the truth will never come out and people will still underestimate him throughout the story. There are many other short comings too. In fact I could ignore all of it as long as females were being introduced normally (Without accidentally... more>> grabbing their b**bs or butt) in the story. <<less

The inconsistency in the plot is too much. The author just changes his plot like that. One chapter a sutra doesn't have a second part but next chapter it does. And no explanation given. There is no iota of plot building. It is like a teenage girl is writing a wish story or just making everything up as it goes without any concern of what they wrote in early chapter.

The novel is full of inconsistencies and plot holes. Do read if you can ignore the plot holes otherwise it will... more>> get very irritating real fast.

But if you are really bored out then you can read it. Ignore the plot holes and blaring inconsistencies and you have a decent character with a decent story.

I can stand shitty plots, I can stand shitty writing, and I can stand plot armor. What I can't stand is the sudden change of glossary out of nowhere. I'm sure that the translator was changed even though the site doesn't say it. I'm beyond annoyed at the changed vocabulary and the translator not having consistency.

Spoiler

For example: Second God Shelter > Second Shelter. Dollar > Coin 578 > Dollar 579. An aristocrat spirit ended up being a royal one. Etc the list goes on. Sure these might be minor but it still affects the reading experience and immersion

Garbage main character. Repetitive scenario writing. Can't believe I wasted so much time reading this tr*sh.

I stopped reading at the point where MC literally attempts to r*pe a random woman he sees because she is isolated in the middle of nowhere. Almost, gets her killed. Then proceeded to literally drink here drink supplies which she spends half a year saving up. Then leaves her stranded while leaving himself. Literally happened, not evening exaggerating or making this up. That's how bad this story is written.

It's a slow moving novel like monster paradise so expect to be in the same cultivation area for a while.

There's nothing really that good to talk about with this novel. It suffers heavily from its drawn out plot and it really shows early on.

The MC likes to hide his true strength which makes sense at lower levels but even after he gains enough power he does the same stuff over and over. I'll some scenes the benefit of making me laugh. Some of it is highly logical based on the... more>> novel's world's logic.

The pacing and the system is ultimately what holds this story back. Like Monster Paradise, it's pretty slow but it doesn't really show us anything about the world unlike Monster Paradise.

The Beast Souls of this novel is interesting, but they aren't really shown to their full potential. The main problem is that their level are super generalized. Not like rank 1 and rank 2 and so on, but rather its just few power levels that are chosen. It doesn't show how dangerous the beasts are but rather makes it feel that he isn't progressing at all.

There nothing really interesting happening at all. You don't really feel the MC's motivation to grow stronger. While the mass killer MC in chinese novels are overdone, it's interesting. This MC sticks to the morals so much that almost nothing interesting happens. He acts weak. He gets bullied. And then he does something amazing. That's it.

It honestly had potential but it falls short. <<less

I thought this would be a well developed story with good world building, interesting characters and amazing plot. If you appreciate any of these things, then stay away from this novel.

Albeit I only read 45 chapters, I feel like I've read enough to get the general feel of the novel.

MC is easily OP. Only 45 chapters in and he's already stronger than most of the characters that have been introduced, even though she started off at the very bottom. And I do love me a weak to strong character, but... more>> at least make it believable and enjoyable to read. Ok, MC kills a beetle and this gives him the soul thing he needs to kill even more animals and whatnot. But it's told in the most boring and unexciting way ever. I feel no achievement when he kills a strong beast or whatever, because to him they all seem to be the same: weak. There seems to be no challenge for him. Also, he got famous and now people are trying to look for him to recruit him, which is just so convenient for him. You have to make the MC look valuable and wanted, even when he isn't.

Women are either too good and pure (his mother and his sister), or either vindictive petty b*tches. And if they are the later, then it's definitely ok to sexually harass them. He has an ongoing feud with this famous girl, and despite this feud, she somehow still seeks him out. Of course it's to "punish" him by beating him up, but MC uses this chance to practice his martial arts. Which he uses to harass her. That tells me everything I need to know about this novel. You can have token girls that MC uses to show his manliness, but at least the author can make them likeable and somewhat useful?

Don't waste your time with with novel. <<less

Haaa this one is kind of hard to evaluate.

In the beginning of the story, I totally loved it. Like, the world was so cool, there was a ton of mystery, the fights were awesome and somewhat strategic and the powers were interesting.

I particularly loved the setting that takes place in the first sanctuary and having to kill and eat beasts for different kinds of genetic improvement was a weird and mostly creative idea. Even the school arc was fun to watch the MC excel in things and have talents he... more>> didn’t know he possessed. If an OP MC bothers you, don’t read this.

for me, later on in the story it goes downhill, and eventually I had to drop it. As he gets to the second shelter, the fights become more and more lax in their writing, and the author introduces too many plot holes to ignore. The most annoying part for me, is when he gets to the third sanctuary, he no longer uses any of his awesome powers anymore and they seem to have been totally forgotten.

Also, the MC is annoying. Really annoying. Not so bad in the earlier chapters and easily ignored, but as the plot progresses he becomes more and more bland, cowardly, and seems to be fundamentally unable to use his brain. He’s lucky his plot armor is better than any other armor he’ll ever receive, and ass pulls from the author seem to be the only way he ever gets out of danger anymore by the 3rd sanctuary.

but the world is still cool, and the mysteries are yet to be solved. Plus the beginning chapters are indeed awesome, so even though I dropped it I’ll still give it three stars.

It’s just so irritating because this story could have really been epic!

The plot is about killing monsters, getting their 'genes' to be stronger. Also killing monsters has a chance of giving people a monster soul which could be anything from armor to weapons (basically items). Its a pretty good sci-fi / beast hunter / cultivation novel. It has a bit of everything.

Its actually more entertaining of a "pet cultivation" novel than most novels that claim to be pet cultivation novels. The cultivation through gathering genes part is pretty interesting.

It does get very very repetitive but if you like the basic aspects... more>> of the novel that you read from the first 50 chaps, it will keep you relatively entertained.

Warning though, there is a section around chap 100 to 200 which is where he is in an academy and he has to do some activities including 'online battle arenas' which is complete garbage. You just have to speed read through these chaps and get back to the good parts of killing monsters and gathering items and pets. <<less

Start of with cons.

1.

This novel due to the cyclical power structure of the world can at times feel like treading the same water

... more>> 2.

MC has some truly next level dog luck. You won't notice it at first because you're just enjoying the ride but the constantly runs into absurdly lucky situations

3.

A range of plot threads are started but are quickly forgotten about so that can be frustrating.

4.

MC can be a huge arsehole. This is just one specific instance that bugged me from hundreds of chapters ago. (Generally MC is a good guy.)

Pros

1.

Each of the Gods Sanctuaries feels unique in tone, each world feels explorable and populated to an extent.

2.

Good world building, not anything ground breaking but immersive.

3.

Genuine mystery to be found in all aspects of the world's not just in lore and history but powers, people and even otherworldly beings

4.

Genuinely interesting arcs if a bit short sometimes

This isn't gonna blow anyones mind but there's a little something for everyone in this novel and it's an interesting read to say the lesdt <<less

The great concept of this story is wasted.. wasted wasted on this author. His plotting is awful.. just BAD.

The idea and world building is decent. But when it comes to storytelling. My god, is it s*upid.

Let's start with how the author makes the MC not just simply "op".. no no. He's god. He can do everything everywhere everywhichway. Nothing is beyond him and he gets all the prizes and all the things and all the shoes, I'm slightly worried he'd end up getting all the shitty things as well. I... more>> mean, there is nothing more to get out there.

Most authors who op their MC too much end up in the same dilemma which is that they have to make things difficult for their MC somehow, but they were s*upid enough to make him god. This author has that exact issue, but not just the cliche normal way of chinese authors. No. His MC is op from day one. Which makes all conflict useless.

For example, I Eat Tomatoes has the habit of making his MCs get all the things at the end of stories. But that's the END. I don't have to suffer through it forever. Supergene is just that but from chapter 1 all the way to where I am. The MC is the best at everything and he breaks all the records.

The only redeeming qualities here are the decent worldbuilding and the above average character building.

Honestly, I will not drop it entirely, because I like its world. But imagine that this rant is actually written by someone who reads stories for their worldbuilding.... Yes, that's me. Now imagine someone else who actually cares the most about the plot and imagine their reaction to this. <<less

Spoiler

probably the most dissapointing novel I recently read. start out very promising but at the mid 500 become really really obvious that the author have little imagination as the story become very repetitive, in every level of sanctuary the way he advance is the same, collect the same 5 gene to great perfection and dominate that particular lvl of sanctuary and advance to the next to do the same thing. another proof of author limited creativity is how he always thrown MC in a "mysterious" situation that gives him boost to his powers or gives him an op "PET" and not giving an explanation how, this happens all the time and it gotten so bad that it is the only way the plot progress. and the sheer s*upidity of the MC, he always downplayed the situation he's in thinking he's strong enough to go there coz all the op soul and pet he got only to get smacked by some random op guy or beast randomly showing up which like you expect happens all the time. Makes no mistake, the things with his arrogant thinking of "I'm ok because I'm op" or all the "mysteries" that occur in the story is real and happens in every situation he's in. THAT's how the author progress the story, arrive at the bottom lvl sanctuary/world, got caught up in some situation thinking he's strong enough only to realize he's not and get saved by plot armor and become stronger and then he got invited or join some hunt to get caught in the same situation like above, and the cycle repeat itself until he become the strongest guy in that lvl and proceed onwards toward the same repeating plot.

For all who wonders about why I give it a 3 star, that's because I edit this review and since I can't edit the star I just say how many star I give this series in the bottom.

-5 star.... for all eternity

This one has a bad beginning/prologue almost on the same level of Monster Paradise, NO EXPLANATION. There was a lot of questions I had since the start like what the hell is the system suddenly popping out of nowhere? Who made it? How does it work, why is it so game-like? Although I kinda understood it does it really hurt the author to explain any of these?

At the start there are a lot of those annoying mysteries especially shown through the old fashioned "knowing this will get you killed or... more>> attract trouble" the hell? Does the MC really have such a loose lip that just by knowing will get him killed? Does he not know how to shut-up, yet when the MC uncovers the mystery it was only a let-down.. Huh? What the hell it's so simple yet all these problems could have been much more easier to solve if he had knowledge, or better yet totally unrelated or even if MC knows there is nothing he can do except get stronger faster so what's the point of keeping it a secret? It's just to annoy readers.

I kinda like how even though there are a lot of characters most of them are being reused from time to time although they don't really have much screen time. I don't really know if it's appropriate to tag this as harem as even though at the start there were signs of it being a harem it kinda stopped when MC enlists into the military boat with his lover being the captain
Spoiler

He is even married to this girl and they already have a child so there is no harem, although there are a lot of female characters around the MC but they know they don't have a chance with a married man so they gave up

[collapse]

I can't really imagine much of the power levels since there will be a rinse & repeat of MC being the weakest in each level after the MC evolves, except
Spoiler

when MC at demi-god got summoned by his transcendent mother back, he pretty much instant-massacred all the spirits

I was enjoying the story at first, but the MC have a weak personality and it does not develop very well. The way he uses his tool (power, plot armor) is idiot and the way the story develops makes him have too much luck.

There's something that I just thought it was weird.
Spoiler

When he killed his first human, he just acted too normal, like it was a common thing, and I really hated this. There's nothing in the world that says its usual to kill another human, this can only happen if he does not have personality.

So, as I said, weak MC.

One of the better novels out there. The MC had a stable character that simply wants to take care of his family and works hard for it. He's shameless but more on the lazy side rather than greedy which I find is a plus. Battles are good and we occasionally see other characters perspectives as well.

The only drawback is the luck factor with sacred blood beast souls. The MC has killed a number of them but with how valuable they are and their supposed rarity I can't tell if the... more>> problem is too much luck or too much value in a what appears to be a fairly common item.

As for romance its actually pretty realistic. The girl that was believed to be the future main heroine was basically forgotten for the mc's school girlfriend but the first girl and the MC never really took a step in that direction. More of an implication of possible feelings. So the MC getting a girlfriend once seperated seems realistic and I loved the story of how they got together. Hard to tell whether it will wind up a harem at this point but the story overall is pretty good and worth recommending. <<less

This novel was great in the beginning, killing monster and absorbing genes and using their souls as weapons and suck. But then it really fell to sh*t when he starts driving robots. Now the story has nothing to do with Genes at all and are completely pointless when in the mech. Would have been a great novel if the author didn't suddenly make it into a mecha and completely change the story from the intended. I mean, the title and the description is about the Genes. Not garbage mecha that... more>> ruins the point of getting genes and killing monsters to get stronger. <<less

Starts off with a good premise and worldbuilding but over time the writing quality decreases and the repetitiveness of obtaining genes becomes boring. Example in the first sanctuary the gene change was mostly displayed after every important beast was killed. But by the time you got to the begining of third sanctuary you have no idea what the power level of the MC is except for the fact that the author states that he is overpowered and no one can beat him.

He somehow discovered the best technique, he somehow obtained... more>> the best pet. The MC has no real threats that span for a long time and when there are organisation that are slighly threating he lifts his arm up casts a spell and everything related except for the organisation gets destroyed. Somehow in the real world nobody even remotely suspects his identity and when they do, he tells them its not me and they just believe him,

Novel where the MC is s*upid and to make him smart everybody around him is s*upider.

I reached the point where the MC entered the third sanctuary, the writing quality got worse when compared to first sanctuary, confused about power level of MC, lines of info dump increased, and killing more useless creatures that dont matter in the longterm, no real plot. So I decided to drop the novel. Let me guess the ending, the MC becomes the most powerful being and defeats the most dangerous organisation/ creature/ inteligent life form and everyone around him is happy. Declares the infodump meister <<less

I came across this book by accident, having zero prior knowledge of this type of stories, I found myself completely in capsulated! The worlds inside of worlds were brilliant. I believe that this story could of easily been compiled into a series, with so many different powerful characters, I believe that the author missed out on capturing a masterpiece.

The MC, Han Sen, truly summed up what a hero should be, although he is extremely greedy, and had more than his fair share of luck, he remained faithful to who he... more>> was as a person, and to those select few that he called friends.

I just feel like so much was left out as he progressed. Like Yisha, the city of Mecca, Sky Palace and the hidden cities, the blue knight kings, the Rebate, The Very High, The Ancient Gods, Blood Legion, The Dragons, The Demons, The Universal Core, The God Core, and even Sacred. All of those could have easily been a complete novel in themselves.

My only complaint about this novel was being sent to The Universe of Kingdoms. I found myself losing interest at this time, right after achieving the highest possible form, then being stripped of the ability to use his powers. Only to regain some other kinds of power. I dont know, I just lost interest and had to force myself to read through them. At the climax of the geno universe with all the action going on with the different races, the core, the god core, Space Garden, The Blue Knights, Sky Palace, The Very High, the Geno Hall, The God Spirits, to me that was a huge disappointment.

Overall I binge read the whole novel all 3462 chapters in less than a month. Since completing this novel, now I find myself in a difficult situation, as now I don't know of anything else can compare to the enjoyment that I felt reading this. I guess that I am going to give "Let me game on Peace" a go, but I think that I am going to be disappointed. That in itself should be a testimony as to how good this novel was.

  1. Super Gene is definitely something I would highly recommend reading.
