I was a bit disappointed by this one. The components for a good story were there, but the power dynamics system really let me down. It's stated that 80% of Ability Users awaken strength, 15% awaken speed, and 5% awaken some other random ability ranging from maths genius to ice control. Our main character awakens speed, which is basically a hard check to non-defense types since nobody can keep up with them without special tactics. In theory, 80% of ability users are worthless, which is already kind of lame. Speed... more>> users are also unkillable unless trapped or chased down by another Speed-type. Basically, the distribution is all messed up. 15% of users are OP and 5% are moderately OP with everyone else being worthless in theory. I think more variety would have been more enjoyable.

That's not the only issue. The other issue is that the author doesn't even adhere to the power system they introduced at the beginning of the story. For some reason when the main character is fighting non-speed types, they are able to keep up with his movements. Now keep in mind, our main character is moving faster than the speed of sound at the point I've reached. It is also explicitly stated that you need special equipment to resist the force generated by sonic booms when moving at these speeds, yet not only are these random non-speed type people moving their bodies at speeds that can threaten the main character in fights, they are doing it without the equipment! If they can really move at that speed, then they would basically have speed-type abilities by default just by cultivating, and you would see every ability user flashing around at the speed of sound, and strength type users would not technically be hard countered by speed users when they are higher ranks. This basically invalidates having strength or speed type abilities so it is also lame. At the end of the day, it's just a big plot hole.

Now I suppose it would be fine if I were given some sort of explanation, but I never was, and I was becoming growingly frustrated with the flimsy rules and design of this power system. The other elements of the story were alright, but I was mainly invested in the power system and ultimately had to drop because of the inconsistencies. <<less

Once again very shitty novel. Plot and every character is forcefully twisted to authors pre-made plan (which is by itself already garbage btw) thus making every action and decision anyone ever makes in this book unnatural and almost hilariously theatrical.

Main character goes into trial that has 25% chance of death and meets a random little girl? 'Bing bang boom' Suddenly hes willing to risk everything to protect her after knowing her for 5 whole minutes. This is later explained as one of his traits being 'likely to protect children'... more>> while in actuality this is nothing more than a forced relationship to execute the plot further. These are not things that happen to anyone; you don't just suddenly team up with a random little girl out of nowhere without some context.

The whole story is full of forced relationships like this which drive the plot forward and which are augmented by helpful plot armor uncles. MC needs a new weapon? He will 100% meet somebody who's down on his luck and needs money for his sick family but HAPPENS TO BE SELLING A LEGENDARY WEAPON for fraction of its real price. All of this happens n times already in the short time I read this book.

Its garbage, this novel. I could forgive the cliches, I could forgive the partly recycled plot- I could look past so many things like non-existent character development but forcefully writing something just to make it pass as a novel due to the word count well that's where I f*cking draw the line. <<less

This novel is rotting my brain as I read it.

The plot is barely there, the cultivation system is created on-the-go, so there's plenty of holes, every step of the way the MC encounters a "lucky encounter", each time he needs something, he meets someone and gets an amazing version of whatever he needs, like, he needs a "rare" item, boom, he gets a legendary item!

It would have been readable as an OP story you read just to waste time, but the plot is so randomly put together even that is... more>> difficult. It's a disappointment, really... <<less

According to the story.....a normal delivery person who delivers via bicycle will suddenly become sherlock holmes and solve mysteries. Too much chinese nationalism and s*upidity mixed in with just enough xenophobia to destroy the novel

I like this novel as it reminds me of The Legendary Mechanic novel. It starts out with gene optimization but later on has intergalactic spaceship battle and exploration as well. I actually like both of these genres and this weaves them together quite nicely. At some points one can tell that the author is pushing a plot point when it is not really in the mc's nature to do so, but it is not overly egregious and still somewhat makes sense. It still keeps up with the gene optimization and... more>> physical fights as well so it is not only a space sim so you can enjoy both. The fights are pretty good with decent amount of description and some smart plays as well. Most of all I liked how the the world doesn't really revolve around the MC and

Even though I read it to chapter 1201, I don't necessarily recommend that other people read it.

My biggest gripes:

    • MC always has someone with them to act as a ret*rded foil that is always surprised about what MC decides to do, always surprised at how "unreasonable" or "fiendish" MC is. It would be fine if they were surprised the first few times, but not the 10th time or the 50th time, that's not realistic at all.
    • The author consistently reveals details or powerups and then forgets they did that, and then ends up doing the reveal/powerup again later.
    • Constantly harping on the unreasonable nature of MC or of Skywings, etc. Etc. Every chance author gets, they basically throw in a few paragraphs about this. It's pure filler, and so repetitive.
The actual story/setting, ignoring all the filler and inconsistencies and annoying "audience"/"foil" type chatter, is decently interesting.

Dropped at around 600 chapters, also just noticed that the writer itself dropped the novel so I guess it's good I stopped.

Pretty standard cultivation fare with a sometimes useful sometimes useless soul trope helping him, and a sometimes broken and sometimes conveniently debilitating hack in his 7th brain region. Things I appreciate: this story has one of the purer romances. Our MC is a maniac most of the time, but also has an obsessive loyalty to Avril which I can appreciate. He's always a madman and unconventional, but the author... more>> really throws him into too much trouble for me. After getting to the cultivation realm, he just gets himself into so much hot water with people so many ranks above him that I can't handle it. And now he's going back to his original world to mess around a bit before returning? Think our author is losing track of the story.

I can say that the translation for this one was surprisingly great though. The translator pulled out vocab that I was honestly impressed with. Very rare from Qidian. <<less

This is a pretty tr*sh novel. Plot devices are everywhere, hes basically the son of the heavens. Plus
Spoiler

From what I have read so far, the MC is a saint considering his power to give up basically EVERYTHING for a little f*ing girl who he only spent like a few days with. Like how the f does that work. Why would you willingly sacrifice yourself for someone that you’ve only spent a few days with. Plus even if she is a child, why would you go off assumptions that she is on the god damm ship anyway with only the proof of the insect saying human. I just dont get this goody two shoe MC bro. Smh.

I was kinda having fun since this novel has "borrowed" a lot of scifi elements from eve online (specifically every spaceship including their attributes, names and abilities is a carbon copy of that game). It was very much like a fanfiction.

And then it became a pure chinese cultivation fantasy. No more scifi. Maybe it reverts back after the arc finishes, but Im not willing to give it any more of my time. The story is pretty much swiss cheese from plotholes, some are minor but they add up.

Your random guy becames an absolute expert in EVERYTHING. (I dont care if its explained at the end of the novel, atm its one asspull after the other)

Spoiler

(Minor) Every alien exept the big baddies incectoids (more on them later) are humans, who somehow have nothing to do with Earth. Author didnt even try to make them seem alien. Many of them even have chinese names.

[collapse]

Spoiler

(Very minor, but it annoyed me a lot) Once he reached supersonic speeds he had to get a suit which (magically) removes air resistance and sonicbooms, because the sonicbooms would notify enemies when he attacked, cause apparently the sonicbooms in that world would travel faster than him who is moving supersonically (literaly faster than sound)

[collapse]

Spoiler

the insectoids are supposed to be in*ests like mites, mantises etc... And then they have "incects" like the hot butterfly lady who is just a human with fairy wings. Also that "incect" is the most beautiful there, able to seduce all incects with a glance... but normal humans are just food... yeah right. Also apparently they can also procreate between each other (and possibly even with other humans, since the butterfly lady wanted to f the MC and get pregnant by him). I guess incects also have human reproductory organs somehow...

[collapse]

Spoiler

Once we got to the cultivation world everyone is chinese and similary brain damaged and psychopathic as many other low quality cultivation novels

Spoiler

A scifi civilisation with AI computers and AI systems has made illegal the research and production of AI. I repeat, a civilisation with AI computers EVERYWHERE has banned AI.

Also did you know that chinese poems are the best poems that exists and have ever existed? Enough that every poem lover in the galaxy would pay good money to buy them, despite having never heard of china or chinese language. Turns out that the translation magic chip can translate chinese poems in alien languages much better than the garbage poems I have read translated to english

[collapse]

In short, this novel is was a fun mindless read until we got to the law adepts. Thats when author got lazy or bored and just switched to a cultivation novel.

Spoiler

Further proof that he just gave up is that the MC was slowly gathering blueprint parts to make a titan (big ship), but when we got to the law adepts he just got the complete blueprints just like that, making the previous progress and investment useless.

[collapse]

And to anyone who hopes that this is like legendary mechanic, sorry. They are not even close to similar, almost completely different genres even if they are both scifi. <<less

As most reviews have mentioned, this novel is really the hotspot for most of the s*upid cliches of CN's.

The start itself has way too much plot Armor for MC and his development through glorious Chinese tropes because China is the best ugh.

Seriously this had quite an interesting setting that could be great if used properly but it was destroyed by the author.

Don't waste time on this.
