However, I sensed the author's feelings towards some characters. To plainly destroy them or salvage them. Wangxi's unprofessionalism as an agent got overlooked with a redemption arc. Zheng Beichen should have been salvageable too, even though he was somehow nasty, he was pitiable too. That last scandal wasn't necessary

The author made it seem like anyone or anything not in the couple's world or doesn't necessarily agree with them has to be lowered and disadvantaged. Like, they can't be multiple winners at the same time. For example, the scripts the MC was considered for, which he even liked, suddenly became of lower quality when compared with his own final scripts and all that.

The redundancy of the words 'his friend' and 'his lover' too is somehow... overlysensational?

Anyways, it was a good read. Progressive character and progressive career with mutual feelings of a couple. Realistic characters too. <<less

This novel is one on my list of "I am happy to stumble with this, accidentally." While it's no.1 on my list from the entertainment genre.

I love the plot, the main characters, their friends, esp the Drifters (personally, Gu Jie is the MVP for this novel - I love his character so much 🥰🥰)

Give this novel a chance, it'll definitely make you giddy, sometimes teary and laughing out loud.

One of the most realistic entertainment novels I've ever read! Both the MC and ML aren't overpowered (which I don't have a problem with OP characters) and both have their own down-to-earth charms! I really enjoyed the lead-up to the romance and the pursuit - that's always my fave part of romances. It's a soothing read with just the right amount of comedy - there weren't any huge hurdles nor angst. Really fits the slice-of-life category. This plot where they show different struggles and achievements in acting is what I've been looking for for an entertainment story.

Characters are all fleshed out, including the side characters, antagonists, and even the paparazzis are fleshed out as well. It's kind of realistic actually, showing different scenarios that actors/actresses faced in real life.

Enjoyable, smooth read. The intro gives the gist of the plot. There aren't any big plot twists. Both MC, Ran Lin, and ML, Lu Yiyao, are level headed with their own quirks and unique talent.

The romance isn't squishy but it is cozy.

MC is mistaken as ML's fan in their first encounter. ML takes a photo with MC and MC's manager uses the mistake to ride on ML's fame. MC does feel bad about the situation but he's just a little star with no clout.

Later they end up in a variety show together and ML comes to know MC. Their bygones are bygones and they become friends. MC liked ML first but never intended to confess. However, ML gets a clue and indirectly rejects MC but later discovers his affection for MC and woos him.

They end up together with ML deciding to quit acting to open his own entertainment company. MC signs up with ML's company after his contract expired with his old agency.

SPOILER...

MC and ML date for two years before they consummate their relationship. At the end of the novel, ML proposes to MC.

This is one of the best entertainment novel I’ve read. The flow of the story is done so well. Sometimes it can boring after the couple gets together, but that’s not the case this time. The story is interesting all the way till the end and leaves you wanting more. The couple is sooooooooo adorable. Their relationship is the healthy kind. It’s worth reading and the translation is great!

I loved it!!! It was a sweet and nice read without any major drama unfolding... a continuously nicely paced novel... very straight forward characters... loved Gu Jie the most 🤣... he is one of a kind.... both the MC and ML are matured characters and there are no cliche misunderstanding plots and such... thanking the author and the translator (Kinky Translations) for bringing us this piece of gem 💎 🙏

Amazing novel! Very realistic, with a lot of humorous scenes. Character development is top notch.

The only thing I didn’t like is

when MC and ML kissed the screens while having romantic talks. It’s so unhygienic, I just imagined how many bacteria are on smartphones

A good read. I'm not saying that it actually represents the real entertainment industry but at least it's not one-dimensional unlike other entertainment-centered BLs.

Imo, it's s*upid to rate a novel good just bc there are no "miscommunication" between the ML and MC. It's a common plot device, even used by the author between the MC and the one of his friends ... more>>

The story kept me engaged all throughout. The characters are not OP and you can really see their development as the story progresses. It's the type of novel where I feel really sad that it ended. <<less

I'm not going to rate this as yet, because I mtl'd the rest of the novel. Though the Mtl version isn't difficult to follow, the translation reads so much better. (This person translated another entertainment novel, and did a really phenomenal job).

In any case, the novel strives to give a real look into the entertainment world, showing the highs and the lows, and the shiny and the seedy. If that's your thing, you're going to want to read this.

Currently one of my favorite showbiz novels, now! I really like how the novel is realistic—the relationship between the MC and ML and the struggles and conflict that comes with the entertainment industry. It’s refreshing to see, esp. among danmei novels (but I also read anything as long it interests me so...).

Anyways, like what the other reviews said, I also liked how the author fleshed out the side characters and making them have a place in the story and not just there for the sake of the plot, but having... more>> their own distinctive personalities.

Definitely will be a reread sometime in the future! ❤️❤️ <<less

Oh my goodness!!!! I love this one! (＾◡＾) っ✂❤ What a superb novel! Highly recommended!

This is one of the best entertainment story I've read so far, they don't navigate to unnecessary things. The story doesn’t revolve only to the main characters, which is by the way not your typical OP couple, but they also show side stories of the side characters which is not done in other novels. And I think because of this, the story becomes more interesting and engaging. Introducing characters and giving them "life" is what... more>> makes the novel wonderful and diverse.

Special shout out to Gu Jie, Xia Xinran, Huo Yuntao, Tang Xiaoyu, Wanwan, Wang Xi, Ding Kai, Hong Jie and most specially to both ML and MC's parents and ML's siste Lu Yimeng!

I feel bad for for the two characters, but they brought the calamity to themselves. I hope ZB, finds a better life after ending his career. I think he's not 100% evil. <<less

Not rating it because I just read a few chapters but I wanted to leave a realization I had:

I don't enjoy slice of life lol.

This novel is quite down to earth with both MC and ML not being overpowered. They are not rich, nor the biggest stars, nor they are geniuses.

So far, the story feels a bit boring to me but it is not bland. I just feel like its not my type of story.

I want tension between my characters and progress with maybe a bit more drama.

I still want to root for MC and I quite like some of the other characters, but I don't feel excited while reading. Maybe just curious.

Definitely a breath of fresh air novel in the sea of novels with op MCs and MLs. <<less

Best BL showbiz novel imo (so far). Did not expect a showbiz novel of all things (they're usually not my type) to be the best novel I've read in 2024. I almost didn't read it since the summary/theme isn't my type. I'm so glad I tried it. Btw, translation's excellent too.

The friendship/bromance is peak. Whoever this author is, they know how to write really good friendships. Heck, relationships in general (the familial ones are complex yet wholesome). I'm sobbing (well not literally, but I did truly shed a couple tears)... more>> because of how wholesome/pure the friendships are. Like, I want friends like these!

The characters and their personalities are also awesome. They feel both interesting and real. Not OP but not talentless. They're mature and reasonable. No s*upidity here! The novel and characters' personalities are quite down-to-earth and realistic (esp for a showbiz novel) but stay interesting/engaging. Dw, there are quite a few funny moments.

The romance is also well-written. It's gradual but not boring. Mind you, it's a slow burn, so it takes a fairly long time to get going. The MC and ML understand each other well but have to navigate how they want their relationship to develop (which takes time). Quite complex. The way they went from a mildly awkward/antagonistic relationship (this is partially why it's slow burn lmao) to what they have now was such an interesting journey. The ML and MC also didn't fall into any of the top/bottom BL tropes. They're very equal. Furthermore, being gay and the obstacles that come with it are also approached thoughtfully unlike some BL novels that literally just handwave how the MC/ML fall in love.

I would say the one weak thing was that we got introduced to 4 new characters in one go (filming a variety TV show) early on. It was a bit difficult to figure out their characters and differentiate them, but that gets solved later on as the characters become closer and more familiar with each other. Like, at the start, I was like "Idk who Gu Jie is. Is he the silent one?" but now... "Gu Jie is the GOAT." He's my favorite side character, haha. The author is just really good at writing complex characters and good people. I would say that every character in the novel is memorable, and most are complex.

There are a lot of shallow showbiz novels out there, but this ain't one of them. 5* rating completely deserved. <<less

Gotta drop this but not because it's bad but just cause the MC and ML now fell in love with each other.

Still gotta rate it 5 since I find it interesting. This gotta be the best entertainment danmei I've read

The MC and ML's characters are not 2D. This is the 2nd time I find the ML enjoyable. He is not like the CEO type but rather a naive-yet-not type of guy.
