When a cold and crafty girl travels into the body of a foolish, man-crazy, young female aristocrat, what will happen?

A young girl, Claire, falls off a horse while chasing his Royal Highness, the second prince, and falls unconscious. But when she finally opens her eyes, her gaze is ice cold.

Soon after, she shines a blinding light that astounds the whole kingdom.

In a world where power is based on magic and power, how would an airhead like her survive?

But, she soon stuns everyone by mastering both magic and Dou Qi, paving a new path for herself.

His Royal Highness, the second prince, was forced by the Emperor to go visit her but was told she was busy.

When he saw the “busy” miss drinking tea leisurely, ignoring him, the second prince’s handsome face twitched.

Her personal knight, Jean, had always looked down at her with disgust. But as he and many others watched her shine in glory and power, they couldn’t help but ask themselves, ‘Is this really the girl they knew?’

The novel was alright up to around chapter 150 with some good and bad points and parts, but from there it became unexpectedly awesome. Where before the pace and situations were okay, everything suddenly sped up in a way it honestly surprised me. I was completely hooked from that point. That is, up to chapter 212 where the translation turns to shit. Sure, thanks whoever translated it, but holy ---. The grammar is suddenly so bad it takes effort to read it and any deeper meaning in conversations is lost.... more>> It feels like sometimes parts are missing and some sentence don't make sense at all. I'm actually a little pissed. So beware: it says Completed but I'm honestly considering waiting until this ever gets a better translation (from 212 up). <<less

The novel itself is not bad. Some say it's average, and yeah, it maybe is but it's still a nice read. The biggest downside is that after ch200 or so translation quality goes to sh*t - random name/item/place changes, constant he/she him/her mismatches, general bad grammar and the worst - sometimes it feelt like some chapters in between were cut out. The story was interesting enough that I still finished it but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

So the first 100 chapters are so was great

- FL getting stronger, being bad-ass and proving it to the world that she isn't tr*sh.

She befriended amazing people and interactions were funny. - In the first world bc story building was amazing.

However, after that, the plot was convoluted
Spoiler
    • Plots get forgotten / small things that the author built in but wasn't addressed
    • She goes onto different worlds, nobody is who they really are --- they turned out to be reincarnations of kings/demons/gods/etc. Same for her.
    • Everybody falls for her -- the story will built up and suddenly, they are conveniently written off
    • the author spent so MUCH time on one of the MLs in the beginning and I felt she and this ML
had so much history between them BUT NO, she ended up with someone else.
    • She has a master within the realm of that Lotus book - however, he was forgotten too and all this hype about him built up for nothing.
    • after the tower to go to that mystery realm set up by the Father God, the author forgot about Blaine! It is said that everyone in the time space will be fine and she found all of them in that realm of the ultimate king and seven kings but he was forgotten!
      [collapse]
I was really rooting for this novel but too many things going on and then forgotten or conveniently written off. There is really just two male leads and no, the one I thought she would ship with didn't happen. -_-.

Disclaimer: Not giving a rating until I finish reading the story entirely, but taking a break due to the change of translators and the quality changes that is fairly apparent. I explain more about the translation quality after my concluding thoughts.

Stunning Edge is a fairly refreshing story with a female MC who's both intelligent and independent. The MC does not rely on any male lead (s) completely and remains complacent and doesn't take action if there's no need for their participation when encountered with some problem. This is inherently different... more>> from many stories where a female MC is incapable of solving a problem by themselves and thus requires the male lead (s) to solve it entirely for them.

The story almost feels like it has qualities that you'll find in typical Japanese and Korean novel counterparts in that there's an interesting take on how the power balance works in the story and how the story generally unravels various myths/lore surrounding the fictional world (i.e. Prophecy, Deities, etc). It does have some aspects of cultivation-styled power ranking that you'll find in other Chinese counterparts, but it seems to feel like it complements with the other varying existing elements that measures power in the story.

Pacing:

This is purely based on a reader's preferences on whether they prefer a longer and more in-depth storytelling as opposed to a more concise style of storytelling that might jump to focal points of a subplot. For instance,
Spoiler

Claire/Qi AoShuang (female MC) has to journey to the demonic realm that's enclosed partially in the mortal realm to find her master/mentor, Cliff. As you read, you'll find that there's almost a treasure trove of potential for more development/interaction/discovery of the world's lore/myth (which gets unraveled with various bits of politics/religion/deities/prophecies/superstition).

However, the story sort of jumps to when the female MC gets there, along with the trials they face once getting there in an almost rushed and concise manner rather than possibly exploring the various avenues of branching subplots that could have been created. This is just one instance, and there's obvious and more evident instances such as when the MC goes through cultivation/training with a second (third technically) mentor with the Wind element, and it sort of skips all the training/interaction that she could have had with one love interest along with an abrupt skip to the conclusion of the training.

[collapse]

Non-Spoiler example: MC needs to go find a friend/companion who's currently at a dangerous location, a) the story goes in-depth on the journey itself and might go into one-two branching subplot along with more in-depth character development and interaction along the journey (~100-200 chapters in CN novel length) OR b) the story condenses the journey as a whole, only going into the more important details that is important to the plot/possible subplot, and skips to them arriving to the location to confront the situation (~1-10 chapters in CN novel length).

The pacing is subjective based on the reader, so I can't really say it's bad or good. Personally, I enjoyed the writing and would have been interested in more in-depth journeys without skipping the actual 'journey' aspect in varying subplots throughout the book. While not entirely a fan of redundant tropes that you find in numerous novels (repeating same/similar subplots over and over), the fact that I'm craving for more development/in-depth approach to the story should show that I am fairly happy with the overall story.

Concluding Thoughts:

Overall, I feel that Stunning Edge is a great read with a strong/smart/independent female MC that doesn't feel too edgy (borderline-Kuudere at the start), and has a fairly interesting world building throughout the story (i.e. Lore/deities/religions/superstitions/politics/economy/war/power balance/dimensions [realms/planes]) with a cast of characters that are all memorable in their own ways. Side characters, specifically the MC's companions, are not left with loose-ends and are all treated with some thought as they have their own relationships/love interests/friendships, and the love interests of MC are also interesting and different in their own ways.

Translation Notes:

The overall quality of translation is fairly great and is enjoyable/refreshing to read all the way from chapters 1~212. Then it suddenly makes an abrupt changes such as the naming conventions which will be very blatant (Jean -> Jin Yun, all country names, gendered pronouns [he/she/him/her/etc]).

It's readable, but you'll find that it's almost a partially edited version of some MTL quality translation past chapters 212, where it gets really bad around chapter 242 for example, where the female MC is described as a male for one paragraph, then as a female in the next paragraph. This happens to almost EVERY character throughout the description, so if you are not fully aware of the naming convention changes from before, you might be confused on who the character is entirely for an entire chapter. New characters introduced are given ambiguous pronouns so you'll assume they're one gender to another, and then finally understand their gender based on other complementing factors (their preferences, their background history, and interactions with other existing characters). <<less

A decent story with a likable female lead who was not strong in the beginning but becomes stronger and stronger as the story progresses. The twists are a bit predictable but still enjoyable anyways. Not like other transmigration stories, the MC will not always win her every encounters and difficulties. She can still be knocked down by the existences that are beyond her power. Expect a little tragedy but it will make the revenge sweeter. The story progresses well and good but halfway, it became unable to read efficiently due... more>> to the new translations changing the already well remembered and iconic names of most characters in the story. Meanwhile, the story enters the most confusing part. Confusing and (bad) translations, coupled with new characters introducing and story becoming more and more complex, I had to drop it around 200 or so.I just couldn’t continue anymore. It is a pity that a good story like this is not well translated `later’. The first team did a superb job by the way but don’t know why they dropped it. <<less

Pros:

  • Great characters: Everyone is unique with their own quirks and improvements. Characters are more valued due to personality and abilities than pure strength. You'll probably love some and dislike others and that's what makes this series so great in this aspect.
  • Good Story: The story is interesting although not that original. The plot twists are good and renew the will to keep reading. Things change a lot, preventing the story from being stale. Also there are more original and less standard xianxia/xuanyuan plots, like s*upid young masters and such.
  • Great Pacing: Most of the written content is story and there's very little meaningless exposition, internal mologues, etc. Story flows smootly and in 200 chapters you see that a lot has already happened. The length of the chapters are also within a reasonable size.
  • Good MC: She's the balance between light and dark. That's even part of the plot. She's kind to good people and ruthless to the bad ones. But not a classic kill them all xianxia MC. She's cunning and gets people to her side using more wits than force. During most part of the story she's far from the strongest in her party, yet she's always the leader. Also, no bullsh*t of always depending on a male. She kicks ass by herself.
Cons:

  • Bad power system: It started as warriors with dou qi and magicians with magic. Then the author introduced cultivation. The MC trains all. There's also assassins, summoners and several other things. It's a mess. We don't know how powerful someone is based on said levels or what the MC requires to breakthough. Basically when the author feells like.
  • Bad descriptions: Same old thing that plague most CN. "Dragon like brows, phoenix eyes" and other nonsense descriptions that mean shit, while omiting traits like hair color, body shape, etc.
  • The reverse harem: Every pretty male falls for the MC for no reason. She's smart and pretty and all but there's no reason during the story for their random and deep affection.
Despite some flaws it's a very good story. I hope the translator don't give up on the series.

The story improve as you go on, even though I feel things is a bit rushed (like from chapter 50 or 70ish to chapter 100ish) and keep being centralized around the MC too much. Though, I got to say the author build her harem very well. They are adorable. You will grow to love them. :) (Still, that if you can handle all the pick pace events in the story)

A funny reincarnation/cultivation/harem story with a female MC. The MC is competent and intelligent enough to deserve respect and has as usual a ridiculous (and sometimes hilarious) amount of luck/plot armour. The harem of men sticking to her for the flimsiest of reasons adds to the comedy.

Two sites propose translations, but quite annoyingly the chapters are not numbered in the same way, and the quality of the translation is also quite different. Stick to the good translation and enjoy the story without thinking too much!

A heroine who was disdained by both family and strangers, suddenly changes into a complete stranger.

I absolutely loved how she became stronger and slapped people in the face (figuratively) when she shows them how the past "her" is long gone. Enjoyment: 5/5, 10/10, 100/100.

Theeen it became just another xuanhuan. The European names and fantastical vibe totally tricked me!
Spoiler

Suddenly, Claire finds herself a harem full of strong and loyal men, the strongest magician starts giving her rare items so she would agree to be his disciple after one look, she finds an OP cultivation book only she can read, etc etc. If she comes across a problem, it's solved by someone for her. In the middle of a disadvantageous fight? Oh, let her just suddenly comprehend this one chapter of the book and blow the dragon king's arm off.

Regarding the sudden introduction of a plethora of characters, I feel like the author kind of just threw them in there to solve Claire's problems and future problems.

[collapse]

Everything became too convenient, I need struggles! I need Claire to do something, not being saved by her boy toys! However, I have hope the story will become better and return to its former interestingness (is that a word?). For now, I am not impressed by how it's progressing. (3.5/5) <<less

its just kinda disappointing that the mix of western and eastern elements is so bad. The names alone make me want to puke cuz of how weird they mix. And, honestly, it jumps way too fast in speed: they meet/tame a dragon 50 chapters in and the MC is still weak. Plus the interactions between the characters seems a bit forced and the story itself is mostly unplanned. Her first (idiot) suitor falls in love with her strength, but when compared to his introduction/backstory, it just feels awkward.

I did have... more>> fun at first but it died after the 1st arc for me, now its just wait and see. <<less

This is quite refreshing! I’ve been reading a lot xianxia novels and this is a really good one! I liked the OP MC, and the characters that revolves around her. This story has a unique charm on it’s own. One of my new top read!

I read the entire novel and found it to be really satisfying in terms of its comedic aspect.
Spoiler

However, the harem aspect takes away from the novel because as the story progresses, multiple guys start liking her, and in certain areas, it's no longer about the actual movement of the plot but rather the development of the female lead's harem. Seriously, there is a minimum of 7-8 guys liking her in this novel.

[collapse]
However, while I liked the story, it turned out that the entire plot was actually more focused on romance rather than the action. The action aspect/mc's strength building aspect of the novel was more propelled by fortuitous happenings out of nowhere, and while the MC does work hard and is smart, her hard work is more satisfying at the beginning of the novel rather than towards the end (in my opinion) because the author suddenly jumps out at you with surprise identities everywhere and 'meat pastries falling from the sky' that makes it easier for her. Although she has setbacks, everything always falls into place for her (but that's what you expect of the MC don't you?). A portion of the story also frustrates me because we're basically trying to sort out her emotions (since she can't even sort them out herself!) All in all, I thought it was a satisfying read (and I would reread it just to get a kick out of her OP moments). However, story development was quite messy towards the second half of the novel, which I just sort of ignored because I enjoyed its premise.

Read up to chapter 34. This is one of my favorites, and it has largely to due with the fact that I really like this MC. She's kickass, overpowered but also hardworking, cunning, scheming, intelligent, and I can go on and on. You get my point. Lol. I like the MC and I recommend this novel.

A very interesting read. Cold and cunning MC tag is true. So far (ch 34) havn't seen any romance yet though (or did I miss it?). However this MC cares much for her mother (which I rarely see in this type of stories), in fact I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to blow up the empire for her mother (not a spoiler, just opinion). And MC's mother is the best mother, nuff said.

The protagonist is cool as a cucumber and smart like u don't want to mess with her. Yes it's a familiar trope, girl gets reincarnated in the body of a useless person yadda yadda. But the author makes it work with a cast of interesting characters, a really really intelligent protagonist and lots of beautiful men and women. Call me shallow but I love me some sadistic bishounen. The storyline doesn't follow the familiar ill treated by parents direction, instead we have a spoilt princess whose grandfather adores her and... more>> she has her very own bodyguard who is apparently a little too well qualified for the job. Give it a go, you won't regret it. She's a bad girl stuck in an idiots body, u know what that means right? Much fun surprising people. <<less

Edited review: I think this story was completed before by another translator but their chapters were removed since translation quality was awful. This is the first story I've ever read where the MC becomes less interesting as the story progresses. She is very active at first plotting and scheming to achieve her goals and get stronger. However cultivation and most battles are glossed over or out right skipped and it becomes more like a slice of life story than an adventure cultivation novel. The MC also does less and less and other do everything for her. Overall it's still entertaining but it feels like the writing gets lazy and the story evolves.

oof, this is a hard one.

read the 211 chapters translated and the other half in mtl. I think this isn't a good written adventure novel. A lot is happening but there isn't enough world and character building, cause this novel HAS A LOT OF ARCS, and it jumps to the next one so fast.

this might have been better as a manhua but not a novel.

I appreciate some parts of the story, like the harem is annoyingly obvious and unreasonable but I wasn't sure who was the end game ML was... more>> and thats nice. Yes it is a very Mary Sue type of novel but at first I got the idea of the MC of who she is as a character but I think it got lost after jumping into other dimensions.

This is fast paced adventure novel for newbies for this genre but it does get so confusing, like what was the goal of the author, it feels so messy and I think its not for people who havent read a lot of good ones cause its gonna be a huge turn of for this type of genre novel. <<less
