I know a lot of people have said this, but the description of this story is very poorly chosen.

This story itself is a hidden gem, so there's no need to discuss the plot too much because it's clearly good.

Meanwhile, for the characters themselves, both MC and ML are written very well.

... more>> I like how ML is shown to always tolerate MC and his world, but at the same time also reminds him not to forget his real world.

As for the side characters, all of them are actually written quite shallowly, but because the plot of the story itself is only slightly oriented around them, this thing doesn't really have an effect on anything.

And for the villains, apart from Mu Zhe, the others can be said to be evil due to circumstances.

Btw it's just my opinion but I still feel there are too many shortcomings by the author when she writing the twin characters.

Like there is a lot of things that can be explored, but the author just like to pass it all. <<less

This is a freaking awesome novel!

It deals with tough stuff in a way that's easy to swallow. The plot is like a rollercoaster, but the writing is smooth sailing, making it impossible to put down.

Seriously, the romance is relationship goals. Forget annoying drama, these two just click. Big thanks to the translator for making this gem sparkle in English!

This book is basically everything you want in a read. No fluff, all good stuff. The story, the characters, what they do and what happens next – it's all perfectly woven... more>> together.

It's like binge-watching your favorite snacks, you just can't get enough.

The bad guys are messed up, with plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing. Totally worth the ride. Even though they did some seriously messed up things, you kinda feel bad for them because of their crappy childhoods. But hey, that doesn't make it okay, right?

Shoutout to the translator for making this such a smooth read – you rock! <<less

I skipped this novel several times due to the summary lol

Here’s a more detailed summary:

MC is very lazy! He can even fall asleep while walking and he really loves sleeping (can’t blame him, I do too)

... more>> And that’s what everybody thinks - that he’s just the lazy yet gorgeous son of their village

But it turns out that MC is super smart and that’s why he likes to sleep a lot cause in his brain, the dao or old teachers come to life and he converses with them, fly in a crane etc.

And he is also very lazy because he knows that his medical services are not really needed because they have a lot of apprentices that can cure people (he comes from a family of miracle doctors)

ML on the other hand is a prince and general known for his ruthlessness

Sooooo they met when...

The emperor (ML’s brother) wanted to set ML up with MC’s sister.

MC’s sister really doesn’t want to and she tells MC that while they are at a restaurant (not knowing that ML is also there) and MC kinda tells his sister that maybe she can jump to a river to prove her point to their family that she really doesn’t want to get married lol

Afterward, there was some trouble with the mountain bandits and ML plans on solving that problem

While he’s at it, he requests from MC’s family that MC joins him on this trip (ML has a grudge because of what happened in the restaurant) and during the trip, ML is like a kid! He bullies MC by going into his carriage so MC couldn’t sleep, ML pretending that he doesn’t have a pulse etc.

It’s also during this time that ML realizes that MC has really good medical skills and that’s how the story developed (after the bandits, there were 2-3 more issues that they needed to solve which were fun to read)

What I really love about this novel is how MC and ML fell in love naturally, it didn’t feel forced at all. It was like everything was just falling into place >///<

And I also really love how — when ML found out that MC has imaginary friends (the old men talking to him about dao in his dreams), he actually indulges that! He even drinks with one of MC’s imaginary friend. And they were not really in love yet at this point!

It’s very endearing to read this novel~

And I feel like an old woman going “ahh how nice it is to fall in love” when I read ML and MC’s scenes

Plus, this novel doesn’t just focus on the romance. Their adventures and how they solve several problems were really a good read!

Overall, just read this! I’m 90% sure you’ll like this too!! <<less

I rarely write reviews but this is such an overlooked story that I feel compelled to urge anyone who stumbles on this: please read it!

Finding this story is like wandering around a danmei land littered with rocks but glimpsing something glittering in the distance and discovering a perfect diamond.

Read it if you believe in charming, playful, unique characters and a well thought out plot that is interesting on its own merits. The synopsis doesn’t do justice to the unusual genre bending and I’m full of admiration for this author. The... more>> TL is superb.

I can’t believe more people haven’t read it. I read a lot of every kind of danmei and this lovingly written story has leapt into the handful at the top of my list. It’s hard to find a danmei author who has a light hand and a translator that does it justice.

The synopsis by OuryaneOO above is spot on, and the description of the protagonists by reluctantMTL as “... misunderstood genius perpetually on the verge of ascending to immortality and an intimidating yet petty prince/general who is the only one who can understand him...” is perfect.

I was going to wait to write this review until the TL was completed but I just couldn’t hold back any longer, I want to support this author and translator, and help readers who enjoy quirky historic danmei find their way to a lovely story. <<less

This is a very fun, well-written story about a misunderstood genius perpetually on the verge of ascending to immortality and an intimidating yet petty prince/general who is the only one who can understand him.

The story touches on some heavy themes, but there is an almost whimsical undertone in the writing that gives it a unique charm.

MC and ML have vastly different personalities and outlooks on life, but they fit together very naturally as they traverse the country, solving mysteries and helping the common people.

I had such a f*king blast reading this. Such a gem that I will definitely coming back to and rereading as a comfort read.

I loooooved the MC, ML, and literally every single one of the side characters. So many hilarious moments, fun adventure, a bit of morbidity, and even some small empathy for a few side villains.

It's so well written and translated, and have nothing but love for this book.

Spoiler

I loved the MC. I loved his personality and, not going to lie, I'm a fan of the 'secretly OP' trope.

I loved that there wasn't any unnecessary drama and most of the miscommunication results in a lot of hijinx

Pretty good story and pretty good translation.

The novel entertained me greatly. There were some parts that could be better but it is still better than most.

Especially MC is a somewhat novel character. Thanks to his memory he was able to firm his own dream world (lucid dreaming) and lived the lives of the people in those books he read. He is a 48000 year old person in spirit.... but in real life he is misunderstood as a lazy bone that never moves and rather does than copying books. No... more>> one beloved that he already learned everything just by reading a book once, so he was too lazy to explain and insist.... until he meets this prince with a fearsome reputation.

The prince did belive him and put a lot of effort to ground this immortal to his mortal world.

So there is character development but mainly for MC. From a detached person only interested in his own world to someone that yearns to see all the sights.... sometimes.

I find it a good read and would recommend it. <<less

I am truly grateful to the translator for translating such amazing story. The book encompasses the meaning of satisfying. No words wasted. Everything that's happening in the story; the plot, the characters and their actions and consequences, all of it are intertwined perfectly. It's like eating your favorite snack one after another and never getting sick of it.

Can't wait to reread this again!

This novel is such a hidden gem! I think it's underrated because the summary is confusing (and this scene never even happens! So misleading!). The premise of the story is that the MC (Liu Xian'an) is such a genius that he primarily lives in his own imaginary world. This is why he is perceived by everyone else as a lazy, good for nothing. In the beginning of the story, the emperor arranged a marriage between the MC's sister and the ML (Liang Shu), who is a military prince with a... more>> bloodthirsty reputation due to his exploits defending the border. The MC's sister doesn't want to marry the ML and asks the MC to help dissuade the ML. This leads to the MC going on a trip with the ML where they then uncover conspiracies as they become close.

The writing for this is really good: it's a balance of comedy, romance, and mystery. Their dynamic is a lot fun: the ML is mischievous and constantly teasing the MC, but wholly understands the MC. The MC is so out there because the world in his mind is overwhelming and his reactions are hilariously strange. I'm constantly giggling out loud about how silly and sweet these two are. The mysteries are interesting and interconnected to an overarching plot of the evil cult. The plot is fairly straightforward but there are some unexpected twists. What this author also does well is fleshing out the side characters. While the primary focus is the main CP, the side characters have distinctive personalities and character growth. The families of the main CP are great, and their reactions to their relationship is so funny. Thankfully no toxic family related dogblood. Gao Lin, the ML's lieutenant, is one of my favorites. His attempts to matchmake for the ML is hilarious. This man deserves the world for putting up with the main CP! I appreciate how the female characters are portrayed as people instead of shallow caricatures. I especially liked how the author gave depth to the villains.
Spoiler

The Wumeng siblings are really tragic. Even though they've done truly evil things, I can't help but also feel bad for their terrible circumstances. Also, Feng Xiaojin the poor soul! I really wanted him to have some happiness. I'm glad he was able to get a little closure in the end. Even the cult master has depth. On one hand, that guy is such a twisted scumbag, but on the other hand, the world was against him from the start. It's not fair to blame him for being born into a cult and persecuted for existing, though what he did later on in life is truly horrific.

[collapse]

This novel has nuance: nothing is so simply perfectly good or bad. Some sacrifices are needed to achieve better results for the greater number of people, but those costs are not always fair. The romance between the main CP is 100% sugar and diabetes inducing. Everyone around them is fed so much dog food! If you're looking for angst, you won't find much here. I highly recommend this novel and really hope others will give it a try! <<less

~4.5 stars

like the other review I also skipped this novel before due to the summary but their summary made me give it a try. Its a lot better than the summary

first half top tier 5 stars, however idk if its pacing issues maybe in the second half which also had me drop it and come back to it and force myself to finish it

author is great at developing relationships and characters however maybe its because there was so much potential tossed away that also annoyed me. I get with webnovels... more>> its often hard to plan things out so it fits perfectly but im mourning the potential this had to be one of my absolute favourites while instead the lacking is obvious because other planned parts are flawless

Spoiler

parts second half focused a lot less of MC and ML and instead on the whole defeating the baifu cult overarching plot but like the author worked so hard to develop feng and yunyou and yunle making them go from pure evil villains to a product of their circumstances with no other choice with human desires and very possible to emphasize with before giving them all tragic deaths like ?????? Pls 😭 at first I was annoyed by the author focusing so much on random cannon fodder side characters like wanting to see more of MC and ML but then I fall in love with the side characters and not one of them gets to live like ;; the author is so good at bringing side characters to life but then after their arc they disappear or die with no consolation. And then dragging out other parts making it hard to get through

My first review after all this time I was just a silent reader. This is a gem! I read lots and lots of danmei and this has become one of my top 5 (maybe even number 1, but I haven't finished yet so...). The summary was meh so at first I didn't really wanna read it. But I stumbled upon another novel on the translation site and then after reading that, I read this one andddd struck gooolllddd.. It is funny, sweet, and the adventures actually keeps me hooked. Sometimes... more>> the plot in danmeis get boring, but not this one. Very very very recommended. <<less

We do need more danmei like this.

What a bliss to read this novel and can't wait for the new chapters. The more I read this novel the more interesting it gets. I'm reading novels for the last 4-5 years and tbh there is very few novels where starting from the character to the plot everything is to the and above standards. So, trust me when I say this, and read it out alredy. The translation is also very nice and easy to read, they are doing a pleasant work here.

First of all, I would like to say I love how natural the progression of the relationship between MC and ML is. Their chemistry doesn't feel forced at all. I really enjoyed their interactions.

The other characters are also very likeable and offer great support to the story.

Ths story also flows really well with its comedic timing and when things get more serious. I just end up being sweep into its world by the author's writing style.

Overall 5/5 for me. Great story, great dialogues, great characters 😊❤️ <<less

A fantastic book. The plotline is captivating, the narrative is smooth and gentle, making it difficult to stop reading. The side characters all have distinct, well-developed personalities and a sense of presence, making up for half of the enjoyment from the book. As for the main characters, their interactions develop gradually, beautifully, without annoying misunderstandings, jealousy, possessiveness. Instead, there is tenderness and joy in each conversation and action. One of the best, healthiest danmei relationships I've ever seen.

I really love the story, the character especially our cute and genius Sleeping Immortal and also our His Highness Xiao Wang. I felt that they made for each other. ML really spoiled MC a lot and it's just so cute. All the characters are great, everyone have their own roles and no one was left out. Author did a great job and it perfect for someone that want something like schemes and conspiracies but not too heavy, and still combine with a lot of fluff as the romance was quite... more>> early and sweet. 10/10 for the story & translation. The translator did a great job and I'm really glad he/she decided to share this story with everyone.

Reading this novels feels like I was taken back my initial danmei reading days. After reading so many novels, it is hard to find one that checks off everything from my list.

The novel is a good blend of plot & humour. Although the humour is not laugh-out-loud comedy, it is really witty, sometimes leaving the characters going "...". One of my favourite moments is ... more>>
Spoiler

how the MC mentioned in the past how his older brother used to beat him with a ruler. Later on, while out with the ML, the MC was pretending to be his brother (to set up a trap for the Baifu sect) but was coincidentally caught by his elder brother. During their confrontation, his older brother just "casually brought out a ruler from his basket" making the MC go "..."

[collapse]

The MC & ML are also a pair that complements each other. The MC is a lazy genius and the ML is a bit mischievous himself and is willing to indulge the MC.

Plot-wise, the story was well developed. I like that the story starts off with the MC&ML travelling to different places to settle unrest and on the side there is an underlying mystery beneath which ties in the reason for the unrest and another reason why the ML was travelling outside as well.
Spoiler

The story showed the cruel reality about believing in cults and the craziness people will go to because of their so-called beliefs. Although this story is just fictional, it can also be applied to real life too (not just in a cult setting but in general when someone is too infatuated with something and it causes them to lose their common sense and hurt the themselves and the people around them).

[collapse]

There was also a plentiful amount of supporting characters that added more entertainment to the story and also further progressed the plot. It didn't feel like someone was unnecessarily there. One of my favourite moments in the story was
Spoiler

when all 3 of the Liu siblings were together. It was sweet to see the familal bond between them and to see that they were all very capable people.

[collapse]
.

Lastly, I think what also makes this a 10/10 novel is because some of the antagonist characters are equally hateful but also pitiful. Although they definitely directly and indirectly committed a lot of crimes, they were also victims due to the environments they grew up in.
Spoiler

. The 2 characters I'm talking about were the siblings raised in the cult sect. After reading their ending in the novel, I could only sigh.

[collapse]
. Although they had a pitiful background, it still didn't excuse the wrongs they committed.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this novel. The extras were the cherry on top. <<less

I noticed that this story only has a handful of reviews, so I decided to state my piece even though I am only halfway through the novel. I must say, this story is drastically refreshing and has been a wonderful read thus far. I love the MC and ML's dynamic and just find them to be incredibly sweet. Starting out, I had very little idea on what to expect and was thinking that the MC and ML would be the typical ML tsundere and the typical protagonist that "seemingly has... more>> the answers all the time, " but that is far from what these characters ending up being. Even with me being halfway through the story, MC has had so much growth and development and it has only made me more endeared to him. The plot isn't anything too complex from what I've seen, but again, I am only halfway through so that could change. If you're into characters coming together to solve unsolved mysteries, then you will enjoy this story immensely. Even if that isn't normally your cup of tea, I still one thousand percent recommend that you read this story, even just the first few chapters. As long as nothing changes as I continue reading, I would rate this story a 5/5. Just overall excellent writing, characterization, and storytelling. <<less

Ahhhh! I liked this sooooo much! Love, love MC's, Liu Xian'an, personality. Quirky, genius, chill... the perfect lazy egg. And ML, Liang Shu, is a perfect partner for MC. ML loves to wrap his lazy egg up in a quilt and carry him around. Totally doting on MC.

The romance is super cute and the main plot is interesting. Definitely a recommended read. 🫶

ML's brother, the emperor, wanted ML to marry MC's younger sister. However, both ML and MC's sister didn't want the marriage. MC ended up on a trip with ML, hoping to talk ML out of marrying his sis.

During the trip, they uncovered one conspiracy after another. They learn that a cult was instigating unrest among the common people, with the goal of overthrowing the government. The two grow closer and learn to appreciate each other.

This MC is one of my favorite tropes. He’s someone who everyone else underestimates, but is, in fact, more intelligent and imaginative than all those others put together. He’s the underdog that shines. It was quite satisfying when his family finally realized how amazing he really was.

Even though his family believed otherwise, the MC is not lazy. He’s just amazingly busy in his own mind; even when he dreams. A brilliant mind needs much sleep – and he does get it - frequently. He’s one of those lucky few who... more>> fall asleep instantly. But the ‘rest’ part? Not so much. The author has created an extensive dreamworld that sounds amazing, and the MC uses that world to work through problems, discuss deep and serious subjects with the resident sages, and... fantasize about the ML.

And the ML is his soulmate who understands and supports him in every way. They come together slowly; both figuring it out as they go. There’s the initial ‘I can’t be attracted to him’ that soon gives way to ‘I don’t want to be away from him’. They’re a sweet couple and it’s a pleasure to watch their growth.

The enemy is complex, there are many surprises, twists and turns and it was worth every bit of my time to read the novel.

My only complaint is that the author chose to include a common theme in Chinese novels - is this a false female trait stereotype attached to the shou? These two are still in the honeymoon phase but the author portrays the MC as running from s*x. Not every time, but enough that it's not believable. Unless the MC is ace (which he's not because he obviously enjoys their activities), there's no reason why a healthy young man would run from s*x with the person he adores. <<less
