Existing all over the world sleeps treasure tools with special powers.

Riches, Prestige, and finally Power.

Chasing glory, an era where Treasure Hunters rampage through Treasure Shrines without regard for danger.

Together with his childhood friends, Cry shares the dream of becoming a hunter. On their first expedition he notices that out of the six of them, he is the only one without any talent.

However, that was only the beginning of their adventures.

“It’s too unreasonable. I want to quit this dangerous job already. I’m gonna throw up. ”

“Ok, got it. In other words we should get strong enough to cover your part too. Nice handicap.”

“Don’t worry Cry-chan. We’ll make sure to protect you.”

“Ah, stop. If you step there you’ll disappear without even leaving dust behind. Take care, ok leader?”

Protected by his childhood friends that are too strong, relying on his juniors and other hunters – they aim at being heroes and obtaining treasure.

Will Cry be able to quit being a hunter while still in one piece?

Hi, I'm the current translator, heading up to the end of Arc 1.

Whether you enjoy this series or not will likely come down to whether you enjoy reading a main character that could either be a bumbling fool or a genius. He is someone with super anxiety issues plaguing him.
The main character isn't a weak personality though. Who is more courageous, the person with no fear, or the person that faces their fear? And Cry has a lot of fears.

I am a fan of this novel for a few... more>> reasons:

Original world building - It kind of reminds me of a cross between Hunter x Hunter and One Piece. In that the world is grounded in grim reality where death is common, but the characters have that idealistic camaraderie going on.

Strong supporting characters: Each one has a distinct personality, the female characters especially.

Humour: I find it hilarious.

This novel hits all the right notes for me. I'd say a flaw is that the exposition can be a little dry sometimes. But I'm the type of person that likes dry exposition so... Five stars! <<less

Actual rating is 4 but because of the low rating decided to give this a 5. First of all this is a comedy, so expect that and nothing else while going into this. Personally for me this is similar to To Be a Power in the Shadows humor wise. The interesting characters are the side characters, not the MC for me. Seeing the side characters making a big deal out of MC's words (and in the end something big actually does happen) is pretty funny. The world building is pretty... more>> solid as well. Don't be discouraged by the ratings and do give this a try <<less

Unexpectedly good read. Brought me occasional laughs with the classic mono-gags. Side-character chaps and POVs are also enjoyable.

Would read again.

The story is unique and very interesting. Only people who have a hard understanding won't appreciate this outstanding novel. Compare to another lame story so far, this novel surpassed the others in its interesting plot and setting. The author puts so much effort to extend his story and the main protagonist is not dumb to those silly readers who are exclaiming that it is unworthy of five stars. As a fandom user and also a reader of Japanese novels, I can guarantee that this is a good story that is... more>> not some sh*t show peg for harems (but so far it is hinted some harem) but the Mc's way is always to misunderstand to the point where everyone is looking up for him as a God.

So far, to all friends who know my name, I can guarantee that this novel is suited to your taste and it won't waste your time to the end. You're going to read it again and again like drinking a sweet chocolate coffee nonstop because of its taste. <<less

Novel is quite interesting. Cheer up my mood whenever I read it. Looking forward to it. Glad to know it is not typical OP harem novel

  1. Story is good. MC is not arrogant but everyone looks up to him
  2. Characters POV is amazing.
  3. Not OP and harem or typical romance type
Spoiler

Where cry try to talk with gark but gark thinks that cry is looking fown on him and the aboves are thinking that he knows everything

Exactly the novel I was looking for. I was looking for a novel where dense and weak MC get misunderstood as wicked, clever and OP by everyone. It fits exactly I wanted. I hope it will be completely translated. This novel is amazing and I hope it gets manga.

I really like how MC try his best to retire but how his actions leads him to more everyone to be more cautious of him.

I hope the author will tell us about his backstory, like how he got so famous and heavily... more>> misunderstood. <<less

Started off well, went bad quickly.

The MC, as the story progresses becomes more and more dumb.

It was all fun in the beginning, but in the future chapters MC becomes so s*upid that you begin yo think "is he pretending or smth?" the misunderstandings grow more and more ridiculous too, not in the sense that they get more fun, but in the sense that the wide margin of suspension of disbelief you give them in the beginning doesn't hold them on anymore. The whole story becomes just something the author obviously... more>> forces into happening, with a bunch off super buffoons just being there and be amazed at the MC who only keeps being immature to the extreme.

But I'll be fair, the novel is at least not worse than average, its just that it started off well and fell into a slump, making the story look worse than it actually is with the contrast. <<less

Hm... I liked the first volume a lot and would have rated it 5*. The second volume was great too! Until the end, where I dropped it.

See, no matter how dumb the protagonist is, the problem is...

Spoiler

He encountered people who are supposed to be villains and didn't understand that they're villains. Fine, by that point I wouldn't have expected it. The problem is, they attacked a girl he's fond of in front of him with enough power to kill her, and he acknowledged that, and after he protected her they nearly killed him too, and he acknowledged that, and then he let them go after capturing them. For the reason that they're not really villains somehow despite attempting murder with little to no provocation (from the protagonist's viewpoint).

I don't care if you don't want to kill them, but why not at least ask "Hey, why did you attack us?" or have them put in jail or something? Just letting them go like that makes no sense... It's not a misunderstanding, it's not being s*upid, it's not forgiveness, it's the author forcing the protagonist to do something that makes no sense so the villain can come back for revenge.

[collapse]

I can't stand that and it's an instant drop for any series. But hey, I got some enjoyment until then, so it gets 3* and is OK to read if you don't mind the protagonist occasionally acting out of character for plot convenience. <<less

A fantasy-comedy based on absurd missunderstandings. Quite similar to 'To be a Power in the Shadows'.

The MC is totally s*upid and weak but everyone interprets his random ramblings/actions as deep/heroic deeds.

As usual, it's fun at the beginning but gets old fast since the trope is repeated over and over again, each time with some action that manages to be more absurd and random than the last one.

The extra point is for the characters, for having unique personalities and varied quirks. Alas, most of the time they are just overinterpreting anything... more>> the MC does, but I still enjoyed them. <<less

First thing first. I want to say this type of novel is for someone who can enjoy a story like Gintama. If you ever started it and dropped it because you felt it was not for you 8/10 you will make the same choice on this.

Second, People are getting stuff twisted about this story. It is like someone watching Gintama, and asking why Gin-san uses a wooden sword to fight? Even when it is a deathmatch? Come on it is not about correctness. Though it may seem so, it's contradictory... more>> nature is a major selling point. Understand that this is a running gag. Everyone else in the story is playing a straight man or supporting role to his shtick "Master is a genius". When you start taking his actions seriously and analyzing them down to the forethought you have already veered off course. The main selling point is the absurdity of his actions. That he views with perfect normalcy, he himself is the biggest enigma of the story. Yet views himself as the only normal individual in a room full of oddities. Don't ruin this story experience for yourself by getting into the mentality that the MC is supposed to make perfect sense. He is not despite his monologues that make you think he is. He is a paradox of reason. <<less

It's fun, but there's a limit to how dense... idiotic the MC can be before reading it becomes repetitive. Being a weakling is one thing, but being an idiotic MC who don't even use his resource properly to make up for his weakness? No character development so far

But for mindless fun, it's still ok. I don't feel any strong impression on this novel, be it good or bad.

The novel is good. But some things are not clear. MC is too dense, it will be great to have him bluff sometime or makes him look great. Rating is 4 because the plot is good. I hope it won't get s*upid like "I Got Reincarnated And Mistaken As A Genius?" where MC is get over-limit misunderstood which make me dislike the novel later.

MC is likable, plot is good. Hope the author will tell us hot he got ranked and other side characters POV as well.

Not funny enough to make up for how dumb the MC is. Ends up being stale after the first few chapters.

It's not bad, but if you're not a fan of comedies that hinge on misunderstandings and a dumb MC (like me) then this novel doesn't offer anything worthwhile.

I enjoyed the novel actually.... for a couple of chapters then it went downhill fast.

First what I enjoyed, the novel have a unique story unlike other and I particularly like story told from other perspective (3rd party POV) that glorify the MC. And I don't mind a weak MC with tremendous luck on his side without him even noticing it (even though it should be obvious if he just see his position and think it clearly).

Buttttt because of 1 factor, the MC characteristic.

Reading novel without development for the MC... more>> is unbearable instead it's like his brain cell is degrading each arc.

He likes to believes his own delusion, without confirmation from the other party. And he said that he is weak and don't know anything other than relic but he still always assume his guess are right without even trying to confirm anything. He never learn from his mistake, always assuming things without any justification.

Whatever action he took it will be always for himself, but that action always took an unbelievable turn and make him the genius hero of the day. It's like the author force it to happen. And whatever misunderstood he's in, even he knows it, he never try to rebuke it or make it clear to anyone.

Well for the quality of the story itself is good, the translation is also doing a great job. There are no character development though only introducing many characters each arc but the author made a good job keeping it not too overwhelming. What I just hate is the MC and it's enough to make me stay away from this good novel. <<less

done with last chapter, the story is common concept as MC is misunderstood as great being and great strategist, but in reality, he is just a pessimist and weakling (you can see how in 3rd arc)

funny, how the story is based on those things, in my opinion the story have strong base, the other MC's friend is not yet revealed, but their trust in him is quite hard to describe, maybe you can say they look like a yes men and trust him completely and blindly

for me the comedy... more>> hit the spot and quite refreshing, try it till arc 2 complete, their quite difference between arc 1 and 2, with the involvement of MC's friend from the start, I you can't enjoy it, it's not for you to continue <<less

it gets pretty boring.

basically you have a level 8 hunter, which is pretty awesome. However, he got it because he got carried by his childhood friends. He does something, everyone thinks hes awesome and then he gets into trouble. Somehow it gets solved (usually by his child hood friends). He basically shirks all responsibility, and sends all work to someone else. Basically like any corporate job. This gets rinse and repeated twice. I bet its going to be rinsed and repeated multiple more times. Its fun at first but it... more>> gets annoying quite fast. <<less
