In any case, he can afford him!

With his strength, he’ll definitely be able to let his own man eat meat every day instead of grass.

What a scam. Xiong Ye's actually the shou, Zhou's the top.

In all honesty, I like Shi Li (he's just so human, it's really sad how much protagonist halo's and folden finger bring down mob characters) It would be nice if Shi Lin got a nice ending (after all he also put efforts, he's not all talk). I just like his depth, I suppose more than the protagonists.

I assume Shi Lin ended up with a sytem and world hopped, lol.

Not the best but meh. (Tbh thought this is quite the letdown,... more>> I agree with Fuyuneko's review. Also MC's quite the letdown too, he gives love easily, I assume that if Zhou rejected him, if someone was nice he'd quickly love that person... in short, I also mean that MC's love is quite cheap, surreal*not in a good way* and fake) <<less

I liked the story; it's sweet and all, but I have some nitpicking. The main character is neutral bad, different from typical MCs who are neutral good; he has a bit of evil in him. He wouldn't help someone who is nice to him unless he wants to. Multiple times, he didn't. I can understand that his past made him harsh, coming from a post-apocalyptic world where people are more selfish and betray each other more. It's very reasonable and plot-related, but as a reader, it's not to my taste,... more>> and it annoyed me. I always wanted him to be nicer to people. <<less

Great translation! Interesting concept, just couldn’t really get into it. I still wanted to find out what happened in the end because there were parts that were interesting, but just ended skipping through a lot of the story, which rather dragged. ML is super OP and many ppl seem to find his hiding his strength hilarious and cute but I just found it incredibly tiresome and annoying. Plus author kept describing the MC as cute, but in the weirdest context - wow the way he gets angry and beats up... more>> this person to death is just SO cute 😍😍. Ugh. Just felt forced and cringy. The dinosaurs were cool and different. Just didn’t love the primitive setting, which made for a more simplistic world building. I mean everyone is a caveman so obviously, plot must follow, just didn’t enjoy the repeated mentions of things smelling bad, cavemen approach to things, primitive living conditions etc. Totally not knocking the book down on that since it’s like reading a sci fi and then complaining it’s set in space... But saw the high reviews and just thought I’d try something different. Not my cup of tea ultimately, but that was purely personal preference rather than due to bad writing so I can see why ppl like it so much. Would not discourage anyone from reading for an easy read. <<less

I’ve read this story twice now and I wouldn’t say I love it, but it is low-key entertaining. The majority of the story is just the daily lives of this group of hunter/gatherers. It’s sweet to just observe this couple who slowly fall for each other as they go about daily life. There are a few twists and it takes some odd turns into a cultivation novel with beast-men. I say some twists, but it’s nothing very shocking or unexpected really. It’s also hard to say who the main character... more>> is in this one. You’re really switching between perspectives throughout the whole story, not that this is a bad thing. I actually enjoyed how the author told the story.

Spoiler

I will say that Xiong Ye turns out to be the shou.

[collapse]

All in all, if you have some free time and want something sweet and fluffy without much drama and lots of cooking, this story is a nice option. <<less

I was really looking forward to reading this novel becuase I like the uniqueness and the beginning and the direction ir was going.

But after reading some of the comments I don't think I'll continue, the beginning of the story sets up a tone that's completely different from the discription and for my taste I don't like when a story misleads us like this so if you are like me be warned.

-the MC at the beginning is not even the MC

-The beginning guy is not the seme (so tag of seme... more>> protagonist is not about him)

-despite being a unique setting it will play out like the typical power play transmigration story of power by another guy (the real MC).

Perhaps I will revisit this but rn I'm sad becuase I've grown attached to beginning guy, kind of want to read his original story because that sounds better than this 🥹. <<less

Historical novel set in the stone age! A transmigrator with strong plant and spiritual abilities (the MC, Zhou Ji) ends up travelling from a zombie-infested Earth to a world still overrun with ancient tribal communities. In this world, he meets a young but strong Bear!Beastman (the ML, Xiong Ye) who is already set to marry someone else. But, because of a twist of fate, the future mate of the ML ends up being a reborn person. In the original version of this world, the ML and that reborn person would... more>> have stayed mated for life until the ML died. In this version of things, the reborn person decides that being with just one person was too boring LOL, and so breaks up with the ML. This inevitably pushes the ML into the Lazy!MC's orbit and changes the progression of things from then on.

This is very much a poor-to-rich/weak-to-strong story with lots of farming and clan building elements. I was resistant to read this story for the longest time, but it ended up being my type of story! The pacing was perfect, the characters lovely and memorable, the setting fresh and unique, and the romance sweet! You might question your moral views a bit, cause the MC of this story doesn't have the most rounded 3 views (As a result of being from a zombie apocalypse), but don't take things too seriously! It's a fun and exciting work that I'm already looking forward to rereading in the future!

(REREAD NOTE: 01/21/2023) I've just finished rereading, and my opinion of the novel is pretty much the same. I like it a lot and gave it a high rating because it has all the elements I like. It's a little silly, but there's lots of cooking, farming, clan-building, infrastructure building, etc., which are all things I enjoy in stories. If one were to compare this novel with a more serious work, you'll probably find that there are lots of things that are lacking. For example, the characters are a bit overly comical. But well, I really enjoyed the simplicity of ancient people. I think it was done pretty well, even if it was a bit exaggerated. The writing was also a little rough in some areas making certain parts look awkward. But it didn't harm the experience any, so I didn't mind it. Anyway, all I can say is that, in terms of personal enjoyment, this is definitely worth 5 stars! As for whether you might find it enjoyable, it all depends on what you like~

CHARACTERS: 10/10

I love the characters in this novel. T.T The MC reminds me of Cale and the ML of Choi Han from TCF... which only made me love the main CP even more! The side characters are also particularly memorable. They're very well suited to the setting and each had their own unique charms.

Zhou Ji (MC)

A transmigrator from an Apocalyptic world. He didn't have any foreknowledge (as in, he didn't read a novel in advance) so he doesn't know the direction that the world would take. But, even if he did, he's the lazy type that would only become proactive if it's something that would improve his life (and sometimes not even then). Basically, he just wants to live his life, and would have been happy to have been swept along with the plot if he didn't get close to the ML!

Xiong Ye (ML)

He's a proud member of the Big Bear Tribe and one of its strongest members (despite being pretty young). He's a simple and pure type of character. He learned that he was interested only in men early on and had fallen in love with his best friend. The start of the novel explores his character a lot, so I'll spare you the spoilers. BUT, he's particularly sweet and lovely!

ROMANCE:

9/10

The romance in this story is unique and fresh! The MC is the gong and the ML is the shou. Their relationship isn't particularly sweet or fluffy at first, but their chemistry is great and the development is very different from what you see in other stories.

SETTING: 10/10

What I love about this story, other than its characters, is the setting! It's well-established! None of the usual plot holes and inconsistencies! Anyway, in this world, all mammals are beastmen, and their prey (and predators) are dinosaurs. As a tribal society in the stone age, the people of the world are simple and they live just as simply. The MC doesn't do much to change things at first, but soon enough, the setting is slowly improved thanks to him being from modern times (which I loved to see~)

PLOT: 9/10

I always find that stories with strong settings have weak plots. And, while the plot in this story isn't the strongest, it's still pretty good! It follows the story of three characters for the most part. The MC, the ML, and the Reborn person (who gets the least screen time). With these three, there's already lots of drama. But, in between that, there are also other tribes to deal with, dangerous dinosaurs, the more advanced Beastmen Continent, oh, and religion ;) LOL. In short, the story stays interesting the entire time. There's always something happening!

RATING: 4.75/5

This novel is one of my ultimate favorites from now on! Ahhhhhh I'm already tempted to reread it now tbh T.T I might do so in a couple of weeks because I doubt there are many stories with a set-up like this of good quality. BUT, anyway, definitely highly recommended!

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

    • Personal Enjoyment: 5/5!! This is very fun to read! Lots of humor (some of which is dark humor, so remember not to take things too seriously).
    • Literary Level: Because I'm biased toward the story's characters and its setting, I'll give it a 4.75/5! As for the translation? It's particularly good! I read it at CG and they had pictures of the different types of dinosaurs mentioned, which I found really convenient!
    • Heat Level: Not very spicy. Most of those scenes are fade-to-black. And the ones where it happens on-screen are not explicit at all. 0.5/5/!!

Spoiler

MC transmigrates back to the 'stone ages' that has dinosaurs and 'beastmen' existing at the same time. Using his modern man knowledge, he brings about changes to this primitive world by helping its inhabitants evolve from a hunter gatherer society to a civilization. ML is a local native who took MC under his wing, thinking MC is weak and helpless, and cherishes him greatly. MC repays him by helping him cultivate and enhance his powers. Together they get stronger, grow their tribe, and adventure to faraway places to discover new things.

thoughts

cute potato chip novel, pretty simple and straightforward storytelling - its a slice of life novel but prehistoric. Zhou ji is s*upidly op to a fault but honestly he doesnt show off his powers that often to be a problem. All he does all day is plant crops and cook food, and I gotta love that for him.

xiong ye is a cutie but omfg I didnt think he'd be the bottom @.@ <<less

This is a solid 4.3/5 for me.

I have such a simple basic taste tbh; I love overpowered MC, bits of face-slapping revenge, fluff and, MOST importantly, Happy Ending.

This novel is can be a bit boring for people that doesn't quite like that.

  • MC is pretty op early on, but he's highly underestimated. ML is such a fluff ball. The villain is a bit of a pain in the ass, and unreasonable.
  • The setting is prehistoric and I find it really refreshing since I've never read anything like this before. It can get pretty boring for some due to details surrounding the settings. (Tribal life means hunting and eating; so yea lots of that)
  • Plot is basically full of misunderstandings that will ended up in MC being recognized as the strongest towards the end.
Overall, I read way too many BLs so I was pretty desperate for any BL reading, and I personally like this! The ending is pretty good, but can be better imo.

I didn't know if I should make this review but I decided to share my thoughts. Also to remind some that my (or other people's) likes are subjective and in no way should it influence your likes. But if you have some common opinions with me then this review might help.

I was pretty curious about this since there was a premise of transmigration, dinasaurs, shapeshifting, a stone age husband that wants true love and maybe something deeper behind the plot.

The start was pretty interesting having someone who was transmigrated and... more>> also another person who was reborn. I thought the rest of the novel would evolve a bit more on that but so far it's been more focused on survival and more trivial things like food, hunting, farming, etc.

The story does revolve around the main couple, yes, but it is pretty much more how they coexist and live together so far. Which isn't a bad thing but it wasn't the type of fluff I was looking for.

I quite liked the start but to around where I read so far it became a bit slow to read and a bit bland for my taste. This novel isn't bad but it made me realize I want a bit more drama and action in the stories I read lol.

Overall I can't give it more of 3 stars to this since it isn't bad and it's a fresh idea. The relationship is good and consistent, much believable than other couples you may found in other novels but it is quite slow for me in a sense that I need a more active or heavy plot so my enjoyment wasn't up there.

Translations were pretty nice so nothing to comment on that!

Overall I'm quite neutral to this novel <<less

I really love this story.

I like that the the gong and shou roles aren't really something that can be clearly predicted. I like that while there is an OP character, they aren't OP+ infallible or undefeatable. They are vulnerable and this world is kind of a respite for them to heal in. I like that they are taken care of.

There is a bit of foodie in the story. Discovering spices or new foods, sharing agricultural knowledge etc. I always find these so nice, it's a really relaxing genre for me.

Also... more>> the extras are interesting because it sets us up with the idea of what the future of this world could become. How their adventures could become legends. It also gives you a 3rd parallel world that shows other ways it could have been and leaves you with the feeling that this was the happiest world by far.

This story is gentle so some folks might not feel engaged enough but I really like it. <<less

The story was acceptable. There were points that left a bitter taste in my mouth while reading it though.

The side characters were too one dimensional. There responses were somehow bland. The MC was someone I can appreciate since he did not intervene with the tribe too much. He was willing to share some of his knowledge to an acceptable level and considered there impact to the environment. Hence, he was careful with his practices.

Just don't expect the novel to give you life lessons or deep impression since it's about how... more>> to cook different types of food in a primitive world. The rest felt like filler chapters that can help the story move forward but did not have much substance. <<less

SOOOO gooood sosososo fluffy and feel good, , made me laugh all the way through

I normally get bored half way through novels like this bu*t this one was really really cute so I couldn't help but carry on coming back

MC was so funny, , wouldn't call him cute but your standard salted fish OP MC, , yes he was incredibly OP but I loved that anyways

... more>> ML WAS SO LOVABLE he's a cutie but he's not weak at all I absolutelyyy loved him an his bear form!!

The 'main' antagonist was such a jackass but he made for good comedy

It took me half the book to realise 30 percent of it was food p*rn but I'm not complaining at all.

Overall cute fluffy and an easy read with no real obstacles but a bunch of good feels! <<less

A pretty good story 4.5/5

I very much like it when protagonist's main goal is peaceful living. But unfortunately most novels I saw Op MC got involved sooner or later and have to work hard for peace. Even TCF novel. But this novel is not

Unlike some reviews I find Xy character not shallow. On the contrary it has some depth he is a simple, straight forward and primitive man yet he is hungry for feelings and love which is something out of the place in his era. Even his supposed mate... more>> didn't share his thought. When given a hope that his ideal / unrealistic dream can be reached he got a bet impulsive and chased it. He is still very young and reckless and new love can heal a broken heart.

The author actually made it obvious that they found warmth in each other company till truly falling in love. Even more in the extra when

Spoiler

Steady old xy that spend many years with his ex-mate take a while to accept zj even if his feeling for his past mate already faded.

[collapse]

Sl also has depth. The author could have made him a good character yet she/he chose not to. In the end like zj said, SL like upstart which dicpite hating his lover for being uncivilized in his eyes and cheating on him with others, he got angry when his lover moved on and had good life. SL is fickle. if you flatter him all the time he will look down on you if you are better than him it will trigger his inferiority complex and will hate you..... So it is not an empty antagonist.

More importantly, I love how zj was relaxing most of the story and pretty much got his freelancing blogger-like job at the end of the story lol. The point is despite him enjoying the relaxed life to the fullest he contributes a lot to the tribe and his lover. I also like how his abilities adds to his luxurious life.

Every thing is actually realstic, the settings and characters, yet simple. It is light hearted because of how lucky they are and beacuse the author don't emphasize on the losses and killing happening

What I don't like is how the author writes romance. Through reading you read how they are intimate and close yet it lacks emotions in the writing itself. It feels more like facts with flat tone. There really isn't heart beating moments between the couple. The author.... Just don't conduct the supposed feeling. for me at least. <<less

Honestly I love these kinds of long novels with lots of lore, that have their own little world, and then you basically see the wordbuilding from scratch from the perspective of a transmigrated character put into this world. i'll be frank I had never read a.. Pre historic bl novel? And I had a little bit of prejudice, but I was soon proven wrong.... The world was very interesting, and I liked to see it develop and also loved the various chapter centered around slice of life and cooking too.... more>> The pacing was nice, and even though there were lots of slice of life chapters, it didnt feel repetitive or annoying. Translation was also super good. I like ML, he's portrayed as energetic and passionate (also cute by MC standarts) but never dumb thank god. And also like MC... I though MC was kind of iffy, but then he grew on me, and I like how he solves problems, and has a very relaxed worldview, also that he has genuine ptsd and it isnt a problem that is easily solved for him.

So I was very satisfied, I put effort into reading this for days, was loving the war arc... And then s*avery happens.

This turned me off instantly and I was like wtf. I kept on reading since there wasnt frequent mentions of it but dude... <<less

Honestly if you're looking for something with heavy world building or the dark and gritty way human nature manifest, you won't find it here.

It's a very easy going story that doesn't require you to think hard on who's plotting against who and what not. While the MC is very OP, the author managed to balance it out. It's more slice of life than any kind of political intrigue or heavy world building.

The simplicity of it adds to the charm and the MC and ML are very adorable. They respect and... more>> dote on each other. No creepy possessiveness or hard to stomach non-con elements thinly disguised as romance. The mains are pretty clear about how they feel about each other and resolve misunderstandings very quickly. <<less
