Still, Wait For Me

Inexplicably reborn in the year 2003, having failed terribly in his previous life, the prevailing concern with Xu Tingsheng, that stands above all else, is none other than her. But alas, he is just months away from entering university, while she is but in her first year of junior high… Regarding this, all he can do is wait silently…for now.

In the meantime, other matters remain. There were quite a few things that went…rather badly, back then. Given the chance to change things, how would it not be the best decision to give that roulette wheel another spin with the odds stacked a better way, to attempt to change those dismal fates? And in some matters, does the alternative even truly exist? Hence flaps the butterfly’s wings…

In Xu Tingsheng’s new ‘second chance’ life, the power of foreknowledge coupled with intelligence pre-empts excellence, and that, coupled with personal charisma and character, begets women. Here he strives for success, while always keeping foremost in his mind that for which he exists, that which his achievements are ultimately meant to protect and cherish. And amidst all this, the season of youth does bloom for the young, deep, complicated romance and spontaneous, hot-blooded fighting never failing to inspire.

Philosophical and deep amidst the great, original tale of modernity it tells, this is a thought-provoking story of life, on life, on living.

Ty for the reviews. I decided to skip this one.

Just leaving a review to say I added Harem tag. Hopefully it stays there. From the comments it made me remember other similar harem novels, where although the title and/or premise hints 1 true FL, ML actually has multiple love interests. So should be fine.

This will at least reduce people who are uncomfortable with this kind of plot to accidentally read this one. And get the right readers reading it.

First things first, you won't be able to find anything revolutionary or mind blowing plot in this reincarnation story. But it certainly is refreshing from all of the cultivating reincarnations as it's set in the modern times. The pacing is ok and won't make you fell like it's rushed or too slow.

The MC doesn't have superpowers or OP brains for revolutionary inventions ect., just his own life experience. Which gives the story a more realistic vibe. And if you're familiar with the Chinese/asian culture around highschool and studying then perhaps... more>> you will able to relate yourself to particular things that happen in the story.

The supporting characters all get an introduction and some background here and there. And although the key supporting characters seem to have their own personalities, they aren't exactly very deep. But that could change as more chapters get translated.

As for the romance, it will not be a harem, (the tag is also not there). The MC only loves this one girl while he does handle the other girls quite good (nothing inappropriate).

The translation is done very well, as usual from Volarenovels. Though it has some minor errors, which is probably due to the mass release.

All in all I think it's a good and solid read. 4/5. <<less

This book is a vivid explication of the life of an ascendent middle class Chinese youth in the first decade of the new millennium, expressed through a fairytale which never loses the haunting sense of the limitations of its own self-avowed aspirations.

The male lead is, on the whole, a sensitive and reflexive individual with a generally likeable manner and somewhat atypical style, viz. The author never forgets that their protagonist is a commensurate blunderer, even when at the heights of posthumous (?) success. Some other reviewers see him as a... more>> hypocrite and a poltroon---and they are right---but he is full of both verisimilitude and ethical adherence to the emotional commitments of his previous life. It is the permanent shadow of his abject failure that keeps the male lead grounded, explains both his vacillating behaviour in face of the many and plentiful temptations of his newfound success and his ultimate fidelity to the (ethical) core of his reborn existence (most obviously his love for the main female lead, but reinforced at various points in his whimsical and sentimental attitudes, his non-optimal business choices, and even his reactions to the least developed but in many ways most charming heroine in Nice).

The main love interests are all attractive and well-developed characters---much of the frustration is in the disappointment that several rather lovely individuals receive because of their love for one far too indecisive to deserve it. In this process the male lead ends up being rather cruel to most of the female leads and is at the same time too emotionally invested in his relations with them to unambiguously maintain that his love for the female lead is uncompromising, at least with any sincerity. Nonetheless it is clear that this does not arise out of his fundamental disdain for the female heroines---as is all to often the case in Chinese novels---or in his almost psychotic refusal to place himself in a network of human relationships---as is the case with the Japanese novels with dense protagonists---but instead arises out of his all too human, slightly inferior, attempts to treat with sincerity those he interacts with, without denying the circumstances of his previous life. Most of the side characters also succeed in transcending their obvious narrative roles and have genuinely human dimensions.

The sadly inevitable exception is, of course, the main female lead, who really functions as a MacGuffin, i.e. Explains why the main lead does not settle into a relationship with one of the several eminently suitable and rather more appealing love interests, and thus leads to an intensification of the emotional conflicts that are the real substance of the story. Other than the weakness of the female lead (in this type of story it is essentially impossible to avoid this problem), the main problem with this work are the occasional descents into sentimentality and melodrama:

Spoiler

the pistol showdown that ends the final relationship of the male lead's (ultimately single) best friend, the overall conspiracy centred on the reborn music teacher, the destructive self-immolation of the male lead's dorm-mate, the assassination of the business competitor.

[collapse]

No doubt the list goes on; I only name those moments that come to me at the moment of writing this review, some time since I have finished this book.

In a word, it is in this juxtaposition of failure and success---not a contrast of past failure with present success, but the rather uncomfortable realisation of success in someone who remains a failure---that the book develops its most poignant moments and goes beyond the standard fetishes of success achieved via rebirth. For that I alone I would give this book a good rating. <<less

My dear lord how haven't I happened upon this novel sooner? SWFM will make you cry, laugh and all warm and fuzzy inside all at once. Whilst being a second chance story, the story doesn't leap into him becoming a super god due to his prophetic knowledge straight away, instead the romance aspect gives the novel a chance to take in the relationships and life around him.

This novel is not a harem, at least it doesn't seem like it so far. The MC is a super nice guy and because... more>> of this he doesn't want to reject the multiple women who are interested in him. This does lead to him not really being with the female lead a lot of the time, which is disappointing because I was really looking forward to him watching over her as she grows up.

A major disappointment in the novel is that the romance seems way too rushed and easy. All girls fall in love with him, with the only exceptions I can recall being those who were married or already in a relationship. It feels overwhelming at times.

Overall, the fluffiness is definitely there, especially at the beginning but it fades out around chapter 300 due to so much else going on. <<less

Angst. How is that not a tag?

Well, the whole story made me feel emotional. Most of it was frustration or sadness, but there were great moments where I was happy. The author throws in success and comedy, but, damn, the harem.

Okay, it's not really a harem. It's just a bunch of girls that the MC can't seem to completely cut off. He's too much of a nice guy. Even though he's been becoming more and more ruthless, he's still soft. The angst in the story is mostly from the romance... more>> and him trying to guiltily reject every single lovely girl that isn't his love. He loves most of the girls, but he only has one girl in his heart, which causes the angst. Too many awesome girls, one dude who loves his female lead.

Don't worry, the pedo/loli jokes end quickly... refer to the literal translation of the title. He's waiting for her to grow up after his rebirth.

The side characters are memorable, but I feel that most of the development is towards romance. The plot is interesting, and the author doesn't just use MC's cheats. The MC is pretty mature.

I was bored for the first few chapters, but then it got more interesting. It got frustrating eventually, due to too many best girls, but the MC's started dropping them, so I feel less frustrated.

PS: This story is pretty realistic for a second chance story. <<less

Worth reading up till point where the relationship is publicized. After that the author himself admits that he's dug a pit that he couldn't write his way out of. The MC grows too influential and takes a turn from his original personality which is heavily influenced by decisions stemming from desperation. After that the story drops. Honestly some of the best 450 chapters I've read, really enjoyed them. I'd recommend reading whatever is translated. I'd stop once they get together and call it quits. It's 5/5 up to that point.

I have never read a novel that has moved me many times close to tears, made me care so much about fictional characters that I would be willing shed tears for. My heart had never beaten this fast, this heavily when reading novels. You should try it out to see if it fits your tastes. Currently my number 1 novel.

This novel is superb.

From the beginning till the end, the author kept the novel very realistic. MC is down to earth, before his rebirth, he was a common man, after rebirth too, he remained a common man (in terms of talent). He didn't go super saiyan mode or some split personality mode after rebirth (like what is depicted in most novels, 180 degree flip in attitude). The only unrealistic part is the number of women deeply in love with him (don't worry, he will only marry one of them, this... more>> is not a harem), still, I liked the way the author balanced it.

Overall, if you ask me, in terms of Romance novels, this novel will easily come in my top ten. In case of Rebirth novels, it will be in top three. (I am not overexaggerating! The novel is very good!)

My suggestion: If you are looking for some unreasonable, domineering MC, don't read it. This is just not made for you guys. Sorry :) <<less

First time I've reviewed a novel.

I have to say, the novel is really a tear-jerker - the conflict between the MC and his harem is truly well written and the conflict plays out really well. The ending, although a bit badly is written, still nicely ties up all the things in the novel.

Definitely recommend.

I remember reading this all the way back, at around 400 or so chapters out at the time to somewhere around ch 300. It got boring around then, too much business stuff, and hard to understand, so I dropped it.

Ahhh... Now it's ended... reading the end and afterword, I felt nostalgia. Though I couldn't remember who most of the characters were, I could still remember the general plot.

This is basically a coming of age cdrama's novel version, except stretched out for a super long period of time, and with a... more>> sort of harem.

It's been a wild ride that I wasn't on until the end. From highschool to middle aged man, it's been a ride for certain. For the author, the translators, and the readers. <<less

a well written and translated read

reincarnation slice of life romance story in high school/university where the MC has multiple love interests but is only interested in a middle schooler and becomes her tutor

basically the same plot as dragon king's son in law minus the cultivation. Instead his goal is becoming rich with nonsense knowledge of the future. He's a pretty average MC and is nowhere near as smart as the MC in god of money

also, dragon king's son in law is far better because it actually becomes a harem and the best girl, xie yujia, is accepted by the MC. In 'still, wait for me', the main relationship is with the middle schooler and the best girl, apple is rejected. Why make the best girl someone who the MC won't accept and why do these authors make the main love interest a middle schooler with a shallow character? The best girls are always the same age or older. If you want to do this type of story, it has to be a harem or else it's just pointless in including all those other girls. The MC is also incredibly dumb for the large part and never has the situation in full control. As dumb as hao ren is in dragon king's son in law, he has his good moments whereas xu tingsheng is just a dumbass past a certain chapter.

spoiler: how the f*ck does xu tingsheng says he cares about apple and wants to pave the way for her when he ignores her and lets her sign a bad entertainment contract where they are just trying to milk her for all she's worth. The MC is actually so useless and I think he actually cheats on Xiang Ning (main love interest) later on too. Just make it an actual harem where the MC takes care of all the girls well.

I guess the main takeaway from this is for the author to stop making the main love interest a middle school girl when the MC is in university. How emotionally developed can a 14 year old be? It's just plain dumb and that's why I always skip the interactions between the MC and the middle schooler. Talk about cringe. I would highly recommend dragon king's son in law although the ending was bad and rushed. This novel was pretty good, but I just can't stand the author's direction for it.

Great plot.

Great character development.

The main issue, personally, is that I can see the MC intends to break off and reject all the girls he's made fall in love with him. Which to me, is one the douchy-iest things anyone can do. By C66 he's technically 32 yrs old, and should be able to read people better, and know how to put a limit to relationships if you know you don't intend to further them. Not that I have anything against a non-harem novel. I just can't stand the way this... more>> particular MC handles it. Which is a pity, because the translation site is the best, Volare has amazing QC, and the writing is also fantastic. Which is why, my reading of this novel, must come to an end, before my heart breaks for all the ladies. <<less

Firstly this novel is about a guy, who was given an other chance in life to do the right things and to made up the mistakes he did to his one and true love.

The Beginning was really good, it hooks me from the first chapter. I couldn't stop reading, because I was so curious what will happen next.

XT used the information he had form his first life to improve his family background history, getting out of poverty. So he can give his Love a chance. Also he helped... more>> his friends to avoid miseries of broken heart or accidents. playing cupid here and there.

After some chapter I noticed. oh hell that s a harem novel, that kind of genre I hate the most. but I sill give it a chance because the MC XT, who is different from any Kind of Harem MC I ever read. He KNOWs, who his heart belong and even he has to wait for her, he was willing to wait.

Spoiler

his REALYTIONSHIP with the other gender, who he has the most contact or still in contact with:

Fist we have Xiang Ning: the girl he 'claims' to truthly love her (I doubt that because of some of this decision. like really boy ??? how the hell could you do that if you really love her??!! rage. and facepalm) She is 5 years younger than him, even though it isn't a really big age gaps, but a the time he turn back she is still underage. so he couldn't directly approach her. so he could only watch her by far and protect her in the shadow. she is still a young. so still looking at the world with innocent and naive eyes. I find her character really sweet and out of the female interest one of my most beloved Charakter. I am curious how her character will develop and how slowly she going to fall for XT.

Then we have APPLE. I like her. I rooted for her love. Behind the mask of confidence and aloofness, is a lovely girl with so much love. She love XT condition-less, she would do anything for him to make him happy even thought it would bring her pain and despair. so my heart really hurt for her as he push her back and drive her to do something s*upid.

but not at least the cold and genius business woman LU ZHIXIN. well I don't know what I should feel about this girl. she is maybe not my most hated female character, but still I couldn't warm up for her. Even so I like the practical and logic thinking of her, also her ability in handling a company. but I don't know she got on my nerv.. maybe because she gives me the feeling that she s looking down at other, because she is better than them. Or maybe the way she treated TX, like she know about his weakness for weak girls and his over righteousness feeling, so used it for her good. and even TX know about it he still let her do that to him. what a s*upid pig... hahaa. well don't know I don't like her at all. I want him to say in her face that they only have a business relationship, well but that will not happen because TX is a PIG. a Big PIG!!!

[collapse]

That was kinda acceptable for me, even if he is sometime shaken from other female interest, Well also even he sometime flirting and make dirty jokes with them. But he Still puts XN on the first place. (Well is a HAREM.. so I am not too strict about it)

He s intelligent and kind, well sometime really manly and cool. so I could understand that many are interested. But he is kind to everyone.. like really EVERYONE.. if the girl looks good and cry a little bit, he would play the hero for them. throw money, unneed concerns, overprotecting blablabla shit. GIVE them F hope used excuses like 'i am so kind, I am so softhearted, I should do something for them' and then got cold feed and push them away with ' no I only love XN, she is my true love' Gosh shut the hell up you hypocrite!!

Somehow I still can put up with this, even though I find his action really questionable.

But up to volume 4, I am burning with rage..... boy are you s*upid. where is your brain/heart. or does the long time of restrain, push all you brain mass in your g**ital ?? !!

Spoiler

really I thought it not gonna s*upider after the m*sturbation act with LU ZHILIN, but of course it got even better. WELL he meet that damn woman once and because his superman disorder he helped her. so of course she fall in love with him. blablabla after a long time later. (gosh girl know your place, you re damn 10 years older than him, even though his soul is old you shouldn't have called him again after he said 'nope I don't want you') and she called him, play out the damsel in distress game. i am alone, I am so lonely, come to me and help me kind of shit. (really SHE is at most my hated character till now. irritating, s*upid sooooo sooo s*upid) and of course our hero have to help his little princess. He helped her to get out of china to move to Milan, and because he has business to attend there, he traveled with her. AND she misunderstood that, believe he did all that only for her in name of love (WOMEN YOU HAS DULU go the a doctor!!) after she found out he isn't gonna stay with her there, and believe he only want her to be his mistress. she put up a show. like ' no I never want to be only a lover, I have my pride' and only after some hours she turned 180°and tried to seduce him, because IF SHE GIVES HIM A CHILD, HE GONNA STAY WITH HER!!!!

AND NOO that not the end, HE SAID OKEY, I want you to to bear my child!!!!

HA?!?! SORRY BUT HA?!!

at that point, I want to punch this as*hole in the face. didn't XN concern him a little bit. he used excuse like. ah she is in Milan so XN won't know about it. and XN is still young so he have to wait till she is 29, to bear his child. HELL NO that even isn't a good excused, even with both eyes closed, I cant put up with this SHIT!! COMMON what happen with the my only and truly love XN. damn he doesn't deserve SN's pur love.

sorry for my outburst of anger, but I can't take it anymore. that is one reason I don't like harem story

[collapse]

SOO at chapter 300, I am really consider : if I should trop this novel or not.. maybe I read till the last edited chapter and put it on hold. Waiting for the the last chapter to get translated and only gonna read the last chapter to know if he could win XN over, or did he get together with another girl.

STILL I give this one 3 star, because the beginning it was really good, some secondary characters are really likable. the plotline about how he push his business to the top is really interesting and satisfying.

the MC is believable to the beginning with. cool, clever and generous but still flaws, so really human like. but he develops to an PIG as the story goes on.

AND mostly because of the Translator and Editor of VOLARENSNOVEL, they always do really good job in translating. <<less

I painstakingly finished the chapters despite it being almost 700 chapters. The ending was not very satisfactory though. Too many characters with no closure. In the end, the author had to devote 2 afterwords to explain what happened to them. I don't like that their ending was told in 1-3 paragraphs at most.

One thing I don't like the most is stealing brands such as Weibo, Plants vs Zombies, Happy Farm, Kartrider and even song titles. Author should just create an imitation of those under a different name.

This is a slice of life novel focused on romance, and there's no powers whatsoever except for the rebirth phenomenon. This is usually not my genre but the author did a good job in fleshing out the story and their characters. I basically binge read this the past week and barely had time to do my work in real life!

After MC's rebirth, he was able to right some past wrongs and of course, tried to get rich from his foreknowledge of the future. The best things in this novel is... more>> his interactions with people and the worst thing is him being entangled with so many women but leaving them hanging. This is also something that caused many reviewers to give this novel a low rating but this is basically what drive's the novel. Otherwise, it will just be another novel about some random loser going power hungry and getting rich and then turned into cultivation powers.

I highly recommend this novel because it does leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. <<less

Read a quarter way through and stopped to read the comments here before committing to reading the rest of it. Good thing I read the comments and stopped. The biggest thing that bugs me the most is how the MC makes so many “intimate” relationships with different females and leads them on. He says he is committed to his one true love but goes around with other girls giving them false expectations and leading them on. These females are doomed for an unrequited love but the MC is still setting... more>> them up for failure despite knowing he will reject them in the end regardless. He does not give off the characteristics of someone devoted to their one true love. Dude is a weak willed hypocrite. This obvious in the first chapter with how spineless and pathetic he is. Instead of taking self responsibility for himself, just blame everything around you. <<less

The story involving in realism, with a lot of emotional experience. The characters in this novel is very memorable to each own where it invoke certain depth.

Certainly most impactful novel ever read.

The characters building.. the plot are differs in every arc.. wow and the realism of the philosophy and the perspectives shown in human growth are scary to be read as it is contact to reality in very much sense of the real world...

The strategy and planning is very wise in one of the arc where its explain the essence... more>> of the strategy and how it is implemented is so much replicate with the MBA tactics in the business world applied in this novel by the MC..

It is clearly the writer is filled with knowledges, and able to transfer it into this novel.. And furthermore, the entirety of the novel, the writer using the same strategy essence to complete the novel to the end.. the ending is prophesy full-filling but the plot that actually is the gold.. truly one of the best I've ever read..

Thanks to the writer.
