I really like the novel. Even though there are somethings that confuse me (such as why he finds people at the foundation realm amazing when that is the 2nd lowest of all cultivation levels and considering he was once near the highest. I mean I understand he was weaker than them as he just restarted but the astonishment I read is a bit too much).

The other reviews hit this pretty well. The only I must say is the complaining on WW site. So many comments complaining about the main... more>> girl and how the MC basically forgives her too much. Just a slight spoiler for anyone pre chap 85.

Spoiler

Basically the man girl wanted to kill the MC. In the end, despite all her attempts, the MC forgives her. So many people whining about how that is unmanlylike and "What the hell man. He even apologized first? About to drop this harder than the trumpet in Freaks".

Jeez, I think most readers are so used to the eyecandy super cool arrogant MC that they forget the good part of human nature. First of all, he is the one who attacked the main girl for no reason and further furled it, even if it be accidents. And I respect the MC for not slapping her face of and making her desperate as he was the one who started the fight and its nice that he admitted his faults, which I mind blowing that others dislike such scenario.

Ok. So editing my old review after browsing the forums a bit.

Pros
The world seems interesting and I like the cultivation nuances

Cons
The characters can be quite annoying and the bipolar main character is the reason I dropped this novel

A few years back, I read this novel on Comrademao. The MTL was decent enough, but there was still some things I could not understand. It was still a good read.

I just finished reading it again on Wnmtl. The MTL was nearly flawless so let me just *shamelessly advertise*. If you ever want to read a untranslated novel or novels with slow release rates, go there. Anyways, I really like the novel.

As many mentioned, there are flaws. The MC's rate of cultivation is exponential and his personality doesn't fit with... more>> what many could consider a reincarnation expert. The plot development is a bit all over the place. The scale of time, the scale of power and realms, it's difficult to fathom and not written well. The beginning (0 - 400) was also... well not the most appropriate I would say. But the author doesn't continue with that.

So I still give this book a 5. I don't give a lot of books a 5 but I give this one. The romance is one of the best I've read. Literally. The portrayal of female characters is actually good. The novels I have read either didn't capture it well or never captured it at all. Of course, there are flaws and some harem members are irrelevant, but the main ones really drives the plot.

It's difficult to engage in this novel because the author puts a lot of details within the last few hundred of chapters. He only explains the reincarnation completely then. If I was to plainly write this off as a cultivation novel, it wouldn't be correct. Instead, I'll write off the main theme of Spirit Vessel that takes time to be revealed: sorrow.

The ending of the book was personally, bittersweet for me. For me, it was a good ending and didn't leave any plot holes behind. But I really wished for a better ending for the MC. Perhaps it was because the author didn't write relationships well enough after all. Perhaps it was just me. But it was still a good read.

This novel is not for everyone. The author is inexperienced and the themes he delivers is difficult to grasp. But if you just continue reading, there is something inside that really shines. I can't say it was deep, but I learned some things. Is this a masterpiece? Lol no. But still better than many webnovels I've read. <<less

I don't know what to say, at first it was very difficult to continue reading this novel but with great perseverance I finally finished reading this novel, fiuhhhhh * sfx sigh

overall I dare to give score 5 because
the way the author makes the characters have their own uniqueness, especially the female characters, the story and finally the "ending"
This novel is not the same as most Chinese fantasy novels, that's what makes people stop reading this novel

what makes me give a score 5 is the whole story that gives a feeling of "extraordinary", if I do not read to the end I do not dare to give a score 5, maybe I will give score 3 or 4 or even 2

maybe there are parts that are confusing but believe me if you read to the end that part will definitely be answered

*sorry for my bad english

Woo boy, I really wanted to like this one after reading the top review posted by Bao, the translator, but this story really is very poorly written. The opening 15 chapters or so were decent, which is what kept me reading until ch 100, but the story really starts to degrade from ch 15 onwards until it becomes a steaming pile of hot shit. There's no continuity between chapters, characters have wild mood swings and act completely opposite to their established characterizations from one chapter to the next, and plot... more>> lines are introduced and dropped wily nily; there's no consistent driving narrative and this novel just seems like a the author was pumped up on LSD and just wrote whatever came to mind after going on an acid trip. Sorry Bao, but this novel is legitly terrible. <<less

I have to say that i've never been this angry from reading a story before. If you can get past ch60-62 without spurting blood from anger then you can read this. Otherwise I dont recommend it. Im aware that in the long run, this novel is might be better than the most but the FMC (ungrateful b*tch) is totally ruining it for now. Maybe I will continue reading this again when my anger subsides...

I don't recommend this novel.

Here we have hundreds yo old top-notch semi-god cultivator who was reincarnated in the body of 15 yo with all of his knowledge and memories. But instead of protagonist with wisdom and knowledge of old here we have brainless imbecile. Just imagine the most ret*rded things that can do protagonist and in this novel he will do it.

But of course protagonist would just behave how author wants. And terrible level of protagonist actions is just a mirror of terrible level of author writing abilities. In one... more>> chapter author could write one things and ten chapters later - totally different. Story is drowning in random skills and powers which absolutely random and without system. Story is drowning in absolutely terrible actions and idiotic situations. This novel is just plain terrible. <<less

Urgh. The concepts are great. Good translations and potential. But the reason he died in his last life is due to betrayal by his 'love' and the entire goddamn novel he keeps talking about how he's never going to trust a woman again, but here I am at chapter 250... more>>
Spoiler

and he's got like 8 women or something that he's got some kind of physical/emotional relationship with or dropped obvious flags. And making promises about 'protecting them forever' and shit. The first betrayal seemingly shapes his whole personality, but like a year later he's forgotten and down with the hoes.

I really like this story, the translation and presentation is excellent. I feel compelled to defend it after reading all the negative reviews. This is not your typical throwaway lightnovel/webnovel where everything goes well for the hero, where the plot bends itself to make the hero succeed. The word I would unironically use is 'realistic'. Sometimes the hero's plans back fire. Sometimes he makes compulsive mistakes. Sometimes fate is just against him.

The hero's background as being a demon phoenix spirit is a common point of criticism. Normally this kind of... more>> background is used as justification for the MC to know everything all the time but in this story, it's only useful to him to a point. At the end of the day he transmigrated into the broken body of a mongrel halfbreed that never cultivated and the resources he has access to are limited. His body actively works against him, negatively effecting his mentality and will power which subconsciously taints the choices he makes. This becomes more apparent as time goes on and eventually becomes a major plot point as he seeks to correct it. His past as a phoenix demon also undermines his common sense. Humans are apparently capable of way more evil in this setting than actual demons. All indications seem to point to the fact that his life as a phoenix was relatively charmed up until the point he died and this world view/phoenix blood makes him into a kind of well meaning romantic (in comparison to the human cultivators he meets) which constantly results in him being merciful or kind to what end up being his enemies. His body and it's reputation also lead to misunderstandings and conflicts that aren't really his fault. Even when he finally wants to kill someone, they are usually saved by circumstances or by their own allies. People don't just conveniently die for the hero in this story like so many others.

He doesn't randomly mu*der everyone who gets in his way like most heroes in these kinds of stories. He gives people chances, he tries to flirt with women, sometimes it works, sometimes it back fires. Many readers unfortunately expect to read a story about a bad ass reincarnated phoenix demon bad going around around wrecking everyone, and that simply isn't how this story is. After reaeding hundreds of stories where op super lucky super smart never wrong heroes always have things go well for them, this kind of story is refreshing. If you read these stories for escapism/fanatasy I want to say this: honestly, this is what would happen to most people if they ever did truly reincarnate into a wuxia story. Even if you know the tropes, even if you want to be a sociopath in the jianghu, I think most people would make the same mistakes as the hero in this story because their world view and common sense would be tainted by their preconceptions of living in a different world/time period.

This makes the story fun. And since the main character isn't killing everyone he meets, this also makes for an engaging story with memorable reoccurring characters. There aren't new 'arrogant young masters' every 10 chapters like in a common xianxia or wuxia and the women he meets aren't all the same jade faced beauties with flawless bodies. They all have unique personalities, backstories, and purposes in the story. Some are enemies, some are friends, some are enemies pretending to be friends. This is a heavily character driven narrative where more than just the MC matters. <<less

Like many other reviewers, I feel this novel jumps all over the place. Characters are introduced and then fade into the background. The MC's personality is inconsistent, by chapter 50 I am of the opinion that the author took into account the comments by his readers and kept on adjusting until he ended up with a smart-ass character with a loud mouth.

The story does seem interesting, though I get the impression that the author is throwing the MC into various situations and bumping into powerful characters to see what sticks.... more>> The MC runs his mouth off and sometimes digs a deeper hole every time, only to find a way out by coincidence. The initial mystery with of the title name isn't much explored early on, and so the hook is about the MC and a cast of murky characters.

I wonder if the story would be better off as a wuxia, instead of dangling readers with expectations of xianxia. It seems to me the author was trying to veer off the standard tropes of xianxia by incorporating loads and loads of cast interactions, moments of dramatic tension (usually being chased) and avoiding this or that situation or person by a hair's breadth. <<less

I must confess its a tad bit underrated, its a slow development novel which the author wants the reader to get a full feel for the MC and his acquaintances and well as the introduction of rivals, exploiters and benefactors like many out there but gets into its strides as things get on, MC encounters a few unfortunate situations which adds to the comic relief and a few "intimate" situation which I feel more pity towards him more than anything.

Good read altogether, kudos translator doing a grand job

The girls bullying the MC is off putting to say the least. But I like how the focused of this story is not in cultivating for months, even years inside a cave, popping pills. Instead we have an MC who gets himself in situations that makes the story entertaining and fun to read. The translation is very good too and makes it easy to read.

I'll round up and give this novel a 4 even though I feel that it's a 3.5

Like most people said the MC is ridiculously childish and idiotic despite being some great cultivator at some point in time but it would've been tolerable if not for the girl trying to kill him.
Spoiler

She basically starts trying to kill him when he hits her because she reminds him of the woman who killed him which was reasonable but she is often described as not narrow-minded or idiotic but she really is. Whenever the MC saves her it makes her want to kill him even more which the MC is cool with for some reason. He acts all profound but is an idiot because he thinks that since he knocked her down it was repaid when he saved her LIFE a second time even though he already saved her from the zombie monks literally moments before that. Even after he gives her a free ride to escape a haunted temple she still wants to kill him and even stole the treasure that was literally inside of his palm. Even then he acts like it's OK and let's her continue to stay with him even though she just stole his dew drop and he knows she wants to and has the ability to kill him.

[collapse]

Altogether the interactions between the protagonist and the girl is what makes me feel that the protagonist deserves to die again and that the novel is only a 3.5/5

I will start off by saying I can see why this novel has low reviews. This novel is quite slow-paced and a lot of people want to see the MC soar the heavens in under 500 chapters, but the MC stays in the same empire for more than that. Secondly there is a lot of r*pe in this series and we all know how big of a taboo that is for a lot of people in the community hence the low reviews. The third reason is because the MC acts... more>> quite goofy in the beginning of the series and makes himself look like a fool, because he is not showing his cultivation or talents like a hidden dragon, but obviously a lot of people love prideful mc's. The fourth reason is because the MC gets chased the entire series, whether by a jade beauty, organizations wanting to take him down for treasures, others wanting to get rid of him cause his potential is too strong, etc. So he is pretty much chased around the entire series until he finally gets the cultivation rank of a mighty figure. The fifth reason, the cultivation speed is rather slow rather this is more of a nitpick but if the author wanted to the MC couldve gotten resources from so many places but he didn't and that's because he wanted him to be in this state so he can stay in this empire and let the plot cook. It's not like the author has no idea what to do with the series, he deliberately makes the series slow-paced, now to be fair there is no filler really and no repetition, but obviously we want him to soar the heavens and reach the power he had in his past life. But if we ignore all of that the series is pretty good! The cultivation system is fresh, the power structure makes it so every top power can soar the heavens with one opportunity causing lot of friction and lots of cool battles. The main character is very charismatic he made me laugh more than once by himself, the series is also very entertaining, the character interactions are cool. Chapters are lenghty so you got lots of reading material to go through. Read this series if you got nothing better to do for the next week, it's pretty good This is a reincarnation story the MC returns tens of thousands years later in the body of a local young master tyrant. This series starts out pretty goofy the MC makes a fool of himself because he is mature and doesn't care about showing off his power. The MC has a good mentality throughout the series. The main problem with this series is definitly the pacing, it doesn't necessarily feel slowed down, it feels appropiate maybe a little bit slower than what you would want but not intentionally done. But the problem is the fact this novel is only 1150 chapters long and 840 of those chapters are spent in a mortal empire, which is terrible. The world is super vast lots of places he could've went and explored, he could've also advanced by leaps and bounds if he left the Jin Empire like at 500ch mark at the latest but no.. The MC was stubborn and wanted to finish 'unfinished' business. Eventually he does leave the empire and goes into the vast world, the series became more entertaining all of a sudden, new places new people, the MC was the underdog once again but not for long, but once again it advanced at an appropiate pace just slightly faster it was great but, that's where the problem lies in, instead of pacing the series so there is enough time to finish the last arc, the author does it leisurely with no problem and at the final arc the author does a 3000 year timeskip in which he also skips a major war that happened a few other arcs in which the MC does some major things and the world changes as well. The series was great up until that final arc which was super rushed, the final arc wasn't even bad but it was ruined by skipping so many details, in the end the author gave us a very melancholic ending, it gave us a closure to the series main characters but it felt really sad, so sad this emperor even started crying. It should not have been this way all could've been solved easily.. But I guess the author just wanted to end it so that option wasn't an option.

Gave it a try because the translator praised it, but it really sucks. It's a 2/5 for the most part, but because the main character is a piece of sh*t and the ending is unsatisfactory, I'll give it a 1/5.

Decided to drop this because of:

MC is acting like a fcking child. Like how he hated the beauty that looks like the one he fell in love with and wanted to take revenge. I mean come on HE is said to be a peerless master. Can't he even conceal his emotion???

And what the fck is with him being surprised every chapter? Does he still have a dignity of a supreme existence in the mortal world? Even though he reached the 'APEX' he gets amazed to those small time elders?

In total... more>> really gets me down as the story has many contradictions to what it says about the MC. A peerless expert who gets tempted for treasures that is only worth so-so. I thought he would nonchalantly glance at them because he WAS once a top existence. And a "PHOENIX" nonetheless <<less

In my honest opinion,

If you were expecting the MC to be like Li Qiye from ED, then go and read Emperors Domination.

The MC isn't all knowing and the strongest of all since the start but I more like the Underdog who is "Invincible at the same level" and can defeat people of one level higher than him with his treasures.

... more>> He is definitely flawed, possesses Demon Blood which they use to justify his rapist nature, which I do not condone.

The reason I am so hooked to it is because of the great writing/narration and twists which the MC encounters.

Then Again Your Mileage May Vary. <<less

Pretty interesting and stuff at the start but then it started becoming worst and worst the cultivation system/items he is suppose to be a phoenix with thousand years knowledge but he doesn't know a lot of things in the novel which makes me wonder is he pretending to be s*upid or is he really s*upid ? When he had the chances to remove that woman (dont remember her name dongfang something) he let her leave and im wondering why are all the xianxia/xuanhuan novels the same the enemies become lovers... more>> pretty annoying and illogical in my opinion the characters are pretty fake the plot messed up I don't even understand what is going on. A fatal problem in the story mentioned above is that the MC was a patriach of the phoenix demon clan but he doesn't know treasures and stuff makes me wonder wtf he was doind thousands of years in his phoenix life the only thing he is commented is the cultivation techniques of the phoenix clan but I really don't understand this novel. This is a great novel, But it's also one of the most hated novels and the reason for the hate is that, people say that the Main Character doesn't act his age (he's over 1000+ year old), But he's childish because he as a Phoenix spent over half of his life in seclusion to cultivate and rarely had any interactions with people, apart from the cultivation related things that he remembers from his previous life he's basically a normal 16-17 year old just starting his journey.

The Main Characters luck is... more>> truly bad in this one, one obstacle over another but he still manages to get through them in the end.

The novel starts getting better and better after the first 100 chapters.

I think this novel should be given a chance, at least try the first 100 chapters before giving up. <<less
