Gu Shishi, a master of traditional Chinese painting, transmigrated into the role of a cannon fodder in a cliché novel.

The cannon fodder female supporting character was switched at birth. She had barely spent a few days with her biological parents before she was tossed into the wolf’s den by those same parents. Her parents, having no heart to send their fake daughter with a heart disease to live a hard life, forced the real daughter into becoming the replacement. Gu Shishi was sent away to marry the big villain – the rumored evil, cruel, and wife-cursing first young master of the Huo’s.

On the very first day that she had transmigrated, she had to face her fated tragic death….

Luckily, she had also inadvertently discovered the path to altering her fate!

— The more gifts she received from the big villain, the longer she could live and the more cheats she would gain!

The start was pretty good but then there were so many plot holes or more like there wasn't any plot.

The beauty standards shown here is really toxic. According to me such things shouldn't be written about as it can have a psychological impact if someone young reads such novels.

There didn't seem to be any love between the the leads. Everything just happened and seemed kinda nonsensical and forced.

The system itself was boring.

All in all, the plot had some potential but it was wasted by how badly executed it was

I have always been skeptical about the story given the synopsis wasn't really my style. But a good story is always worth taking risks ans this is a wonderful, sweet story.

At the end of the day, system is really just not fun for me. The system here feels very intrusive, however at end of the day I'm not really that kind of person to read or even touch a system novel. Reading this system novel, I just keep thinking about the previous system novel that I have read - 100k Stand-in. Compare this novel to 100K, reading up to 200 chapters here and I feel like there is no distinct goals or ending that we are reaching to. The novel... more>> just feels like a slice of life with no interesting storylines. The beginning of the novel might have been fun but if you sit through 200 chapters like I did, going through the same thing and the same interaction over and over again, you would be bored out of your mind. Honestly this novel is a really forgettable novel. The female lead golden fingers a bit too much and there's really nothing standout for me here. Final verdict, if you have so much time on your hand or you are into this kind of web novel about system then I could recommend. But I reckon for the average readers this novel would definitely feel draggy. <<less

Honestly I just turned off my brain and enjoyed it. Of course there where iffy moments and I don't really believe they love each other but it was good.

  1. The FL just using him to live and he just find her pretty. ML keeps looking at her and even compared a secretary to her.
  2. Tbh the beginning of his like were because she got close to him when everyone else was afraid but his liking for her was mainly because of the system. It made the FL perfect for him and conveniently gave tasks that caused him to like her.
  3. He doesn't really even know her well. He described her as delicate and weak and thought she would be bullied but as we can all see the FL clearly fights back.
But anyways it... more>> was entertaining to read after I tried reading I Help the Richest Man Spend Money to Prevent Disasters because that one was way too slow and boring. It helped boost the 2/3 stars to a 4 <<less

So I like many readers liked this book in the beginning.

I thought the premise was nice if not a little generic, of MC (who's originally a cannon fodder in the book or world) meets ML (who is usually the villain or sometimes another cannon fodder) and they hit it off and live happily while everyone else who was supposed to be good in the original book are actually scum bags. A very generic set in Modern China novel which I'm not mad about because I love these types of stories.... more>> It's a very sweet fluffy book where the MC and ML are in their own little world. And if not a little weird I liked the book at first. There are a couple of things I didn't like but could stand.

Spoiler

These are not in chronological order
1. Painting
How one of her main traits and one of the main things she was excited about (besides getting gifts to live) was the "upgrades" she got in her painting ability. I thought painting as her main thing was cool because in most of these stories it's usually acting or cooking. But the thing is after she got the ability to make people feel things when they look at her paintings (which I think is level 2 on this skill but I can't remember for sure and don't want to go find it), she didn't use her health points to upgrade the ability after that. And one of her main things is or should I say was was painting because they haven't talked about that in forever. Now all she's uses her points for is to upgrade her looks, which would be fine except for it's only that all the time now.

2. Going off of that some of the stuff she gets from the system like the bride halo: which I think basically made it so every time she turned it on she would act like it's their wedding night all over again (aka no experience in bed), basically her acting very inexperienced which isn't really bad but just made me feel a little weird. Especially since in like every chapter they don't forget to throw in how small she is "like ML took her small hand" or "ML patted her on her small head", like I get it you don't have to mention it every chapter. And the fact that they talk about childishly she dresses in regards to her night clothes which again isn't so much a problem but still it's weird.
3. Also going off her pajamas he doesn't want her dressing like that in the house in case other people see her. Fine I get it if you have people who work for you in the house you shouldn't be dressing inappropriately but like it's night time. And besides the butler you dismiss all the servants at night. This is supposed to be her house to and she should be able to dress how to she wants.
4. She's also supposed to have the ability to help with his insomnia with one of the abilities she got from the system. And she even said when she got this ability at first she was going to use it to help him sleep and she's only done it like 3 times and he still suffers from insomnia or did they just forget that plot point? Because even at one point he ask her to sleep with him on the couch because he thought it could help him sleep, so why after they got married he didn't want to sleep in the same room as her?
5. Marrying her because he thought she was depressed, sir get her some therapy if you think she's depressed. He just keeps throwing out mixed signals of he wants to be with her but also stay away from me.
5. His little sister which I like one of her main task was to get ML to get along better with his little sister. But mostly what she did was sit there while ML was rude to his little sister and tell her to leave. And the little sister is sitting there in awe because her brother is doing stuff he wouldn't normally do. And I get that it's his trauma and he's kinda nice to her even though he refuses to interact with her. I just don't think MC should've gotten points for that because besides the introduction she didn't do much

6. Her being drunk is the most annoying thing

7. The system getting more involved in her life. She is doing the most ridiculous (sometimes hard to understand pointless things) because the system is giving her more specific task instead of general ones like before. For example her having to do those 3 weird kisses, what was the point in making them that specific when ML didn't even realize 2 of them?

[collapse]

Save all the things I listed above the book is pretty good. Except when we got the wedding. I don't know if the book changed the author but from the wedding on wards it felt like a very different book to me. Just like a bunch of scenes they thought would be fun to throw together in a book and the plot while flowing is secondary.
'Example

Spoiler

During their wedding night she has to say no to him three times and then sleep with him like why? Also she was very drunk sounding the whole scene. I couldn't even enjoy their first night together because it felt so incredibly forced instead of natural. Also because of that SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET TO ENJOY HER WEDDING, I was looking forward to the wedding scene so much. And all I got was a disappointing 1-2 chapters about it. Like describe the venue, her dress, what they looked like at the altar, SOMETHING instead they just said they got married and then she gets drunk (which she didn't want) 2nd we move on the very awkward in my opinion first night (which they also didn't detail enough)

[collapse]

I will say what I did like about it and made me feel like it was back to original style was the face slapping scene when they came back from the wedding that was good. She definitely needed to say that and I'm glad it was there.
So overall it is a good and fluffy book and I am looking forward to more face slaps in the future also the two of them finally figuring out their in love, but it is getting hard to read. <<less

I didn't really like how after she chose marriage, Huo Shishen proposed. It seems slightly unreasonable even if we are looking at it through his perspective and feels forced. 4.5 stars rounded to if it weren't for a few problems I'd like to give 7 stars out of 5

Let's start with the good points. This novel is hilarious. It hadme smiling and laughing until my face hurt. The MC is a gem, you just want to see what she and the ML get up to next. The ML is fantastic a real joy to read. The supporting characters are all very good or at above average. (Biological mother being the one exception but she's not around much)

Why it... more>> gets deductions

1 It's not completed and doesn't look like it ever will be. The last chapter ends in the middle of what looks like a new arc

2 Keeping track of who's who is painful. The names are all too similar and the author usually winds up with 5+ ways of referring to a character

3. The power of Chinese Ink Painting gets to be a bit much.

Despite the small flaws it's a must read <<less

This is actually quite cute! There's not too much misunderstanding or any angsty thing going on! I like how cute the relationship between the 2 is. Although there are some times where I had a difficulty in following the event because elf it's suddenness but maybe because of the MTL part or the translation cause I only had a problem with his when I read the MTL but overall it's really good! You can MTL this novel! 😊

I don't know why I like this one so much, but I'm on my way to reading it for the third time. I would say it is the typical face-slapping dogblood novel, but for some reason the face-slapping is particularly satisfying. The "cheats" the MC unlock during her adventure are pretty funny. The ML is a hardcore tsundere who says one thing and does the complete opposite sometimes only seconds later. It's objectively not the best novel but I find that I keep coming back to it.

2.5/5

The VERY beginning was good because it had tension and the very real threat of dying quickly because of the system's unorthodox way of letting her earn more time alive. Then she got to OP and the story lost its luster.

What should've been an interesting idea quickly had its potential crushed because the author couldn't handle making the MC suffer even the slightest hardships.

MC herself is a 5/10 to me. Not bad but not particularly good. She doesn't make me want to die when I read the novel and... more>> that's pretty good already. Her only talent is drawing and it makes sense because she was a painter in her old life and devoted her entire (short) life into honing those skills.

ML is fairly generic. 3.5/10. Cold, powerful, friendless, rich, handsome, and has 0 EQ. Don't particular like him but I don't hate him. He's a serious germaphobe with insomnia and an even more serious adversity to getting close to people because he thinks he'll curse them somehow. He gets bonus points for caring about his sister though.

The relationship between MC and ML leaves much to be desired. I don't find it appealing or interesting honestly. Its development hinges on the fact that the MC is constantly under threat of death or harsh penalty if she doesn't make him spend money on her or make him like her, the system warns her of the consequences several times when the MLs affection for her dropped several levels, so she HAS to make him like her and spend time with him. ML is obviously flattered and developing feelings for her because he thinks she's doing all these nice things for him because she wants to. How sad.

Side characters are decent. 6.5/10 for not being entirely brainless and for at least having some personality and the (extremely rare) ability to better themselves instead of suffering some unrealistic punishment.

The system is a 2/10. It has no personality and is simply a lifeless interface for the MC to use. (Not a bad thing. I like systems like this.) It forces her to get things from the ML in order to live. Why? Who knows.* It also has an upper limit to how many days she can earn in total. Why? Who knows.* Too many OP halos and whatever almost right off the bat. 'Rose perfume that never smells bad with magical abilities to stop insomnia' 'Hair as black as ink, skin as white as snow halo' 'Perfect body hair removal halo' 'Super sexy when drunk halo' 'Perfect skin potion' 'Halo to make you be able to paint masterpieces' etc.

*We all know it's to force her to be around him and interact with him whether she likes to or not.

The plot is slow and boring. It mainly focuses on MC and MLs relationship and MCs system mandated tasks of making people like her and gaining recognition for her talents. No focus on MLs curse beyond talking about how everyone is scared of him for having it, no focus on MCs family drama, no focus on MLs brother (the BF of the sister) or the MCs sister (the main antagonist of this story). So slow

Some small points I didn't like:

    • MLs insomnia problem was forgotten maybe 10~ chapters into the story. MC thought he died because of it in the novel but never really brought it up again.
    • The fact that MC is in a novel is never really mentioned again. She seems a bit too comfortable living as someone else. Did she have nothing to live for in her previous life? We'll never know
    • ML being successful (or even being) in the business world doesn't make sense. It's all about connections and meeting people. (Things he lost and doesn't do because of his curse) And he's infamous for being cursed and spreading misfortune to everyone around him. So why on earth would people work with him at all?? Why would HE choose this kind of work in the first place???? Just being around people makes him sick, so he decides to choose the one job where he HAS to interact with people to make a living?
    • The Chinese beauty standards are STRONG in this novel. Side characters remark on how weirdly white she is at some point.
    • ML nose bleeding over MC for being sexy (tf ?)
    • The system makes MC into MLs perfect girl who doesn't have disgusting pores, is never caked in any kind of makeup, doesn't wear icky perfume, or drops hair everywhere

Basically he likes that she's not a normal human and idk how to feel about that. He never gets the chance to love her for her real appearance, and I think that's sad. It's like he's been robbed of the character growth he could've had.

I liked this novel, it was a quite fun read. The characters are ineresting and the plot moves fluently, you dont get confused by the characters names or what is happening with who. However, I felt that sometimes characters where forgotten and just appear because plot reasons, this novel has a straighforward narrative so dont expect plot twists or difficult situations. Its enjoyable overall.

A complain I have is that the System made the MC wayyyy to overpower, it literally made her perfect in the story, she never does wrong and its beautiful in every sense, also I felt that the romance between the MC and the ML was quite... dubious. The MC literally just has to act quite to obtain the money of the ML and continuos to do so all through their relationship, and the ML falls for her in grat part for misunderstanding.

This serves as a pretty good example for a self-indulgent, Mary Sue work -- AH I'm not saying this sarcastically! LIKE, this novel is really that, and it's pretty good! It has hints of satire and lots of well-placed face-slapping, making it a very satisfying read. I wasn't expecting much because the summary was enough to make me feel anxious XD. In my mind, I was already conceptualizing a really unlikeable heroine. But, it turned out different from what I thought. She's definitely a Mary Sue, for her story was... more>> a fun one.

Summary: The FL, Gu Shishi, transmigrates into a modern-day novel with a "real vs fake daughter" focus. Her role was the real daughter of a wealthy family that had been raised far away. Said real daughter was picked up only after she had grown of age. Meanwhile, the white lotus fake daughter (who was the original protagonist of the original novel) had been living in the wealthy family this whole time, being doted on because she had a heart disease. When the FL trnsmigrated, it was after her real family had forced her into an engagement with the so-called, cursed first son of the Hou Family (the ML, Hou Shishen). She transmigrates with a SYSTEM, but that's more of a plot device to push the romance between her and the ML, who is struggling with insomnia and other psychological issues because of his horrible childhood.

Read this novel if you're looking for something fun and simple! I mean, as a modern day, it doesn't do anything completely out-there. In fact, it borrows a lot of elements from other similar stories. Which is why I call it self-indulgent. If one is looking for complex development or intricate settings and plot, this is not the place to look for it! Regardless, if it just so happens to hit the right mood for you, it's worth the try! I personally enjoyed it, and for that reason, I'm giving it a 3.85/5 star rating. Hehe, Sounds like its not high, but for me, that's pretty high already for a modern day novel. <<less

If you’re looking for an mid length, easy read with plenty of fluffy then this is definitely a novel for you. It has its comedic moments especially as MC tries to complete her assignments from the system. There is the typical drama from both families of the MC and ML, but mostly the Gu family’s fake daughter but everything is easily overcome and is never to drawn out.

The ML once he realises his feels is your typical possessive, wife loving CEO - cold to everyone but his wife.

Overall a gentle... more>> read and if your looking to avoid you typical love triangle, constant plots and surprise twists in your plot, then this is a novel worth trying.

Spoiler

Ok now onto my own personal opinion. I did find myself growing bored when the MC stopped receiving system assignments as that was were most of the comedy came from for me and kept the plot going forward.

This was also true for character development, I didn’t find that the MC or ML really grew as characters. Yes the ML over came his psychological issues but it came as more of a side note once the system stopped being active. As for the MC a lot of the art focus seemed to be missing and I had enjoyed the scenes of her streaming and the ‘gifting’ of her art became moot early on and was made completely redundant with the ML always buying it, which the MC found adorably but I found frustrating.

The whole reveal of the Ink Painting Guru was - anti climatic.

Her friendship and fondness for those around her seemed superficial and more like a chore to her than genuine care.

I did find the novel enjoyable but I wished that it went deeper into relationships outside her one with the ML. As the system was supposed to be based off the ML’s fondness and the fondness of others within his social circle.

This novel was very interesting. I liked the story, I really liked the MC, so I kept reading it; hoping in time Huo Sishen (ML) would somehow redeem himself. My patience ran out around chapter 300, and decided to drop this at 314.

The author formed a good story, good characters, but failed to add redeeming qualities/scenes to keep me reading the story.

Spoiler

ML is shown as a damaged/broken person. We are shown how he grows up, and understand why he is like he is. We are shown (not tell=props to the author) how he is not a bad person, and deserves our love, and pity. But then everything is told from the ML point of view, author did not spend a single thought on the pov of MC. Author formed the story as she is forced to be with him otherwise she dies, but then left it there. Why would anyone stay with a person like him unless they are forced? We had to receive some crumbs, some scenes to justify it, but for me, there were no such scenes.

ML is jaded, cold, and guarded. He treats everyone as enemy, out to get or trick him, after his money. But he literally has nothing else than money to offer. I felt author went so deep in writing him, that they could not find a way up, could not write a scene that shows he opens up, heals.

We are shown some scenes where he slowly starts trusting MC, but these scenes are ALL internal, nothing shows on the outside. MC has a system where she could see the numerical changes, and even then she was confused most of the time.

ML kept getting these fits of jealousy, fits of warm feeling, fits of anger.. And it all is internal. All others see are his cold, unfeeling face.

It is torture for everyone who stays with him. ML is written as childish, tsundere, but generally when you write a character like that you also include some bonuses, some pink. Here its all money. And the way he uses it is shown as unfeeling. Thinking from the side of MC, I honestly couldnt find 1 reason why she should stay with him if she is not forced (would not die if she leaves him)

[collapse]

Obviously this is my personal opinion and not an attack on everyone who liked this story. <<less

OK. I need to start by saying that I liked this novel, I even started it with the intention of genuinely liking it, because I love novels in which the theme of money is very present and the synopsis seemed very interesting and relatively innovative.

However, a few things bothered me, and the relationship between the protagonists was one of them -... more>>
Spoiler

there was a moment when the ML (male protagonist) compared his secretary to Gu Shishi, thinking Gu Shishi was way above her, but that was in terms mainly in appearance. The main problem with this comparison is that pretty much all of the favorable traits he cited of Gu Shishi, she only has because she has a system that manufactured and gave those traits to her, and they are all beauty goals that are literally unattainable for a normal person (as NEVER having oily skin, pimples, blemishes and pores - which I recognize would be wonderful, but is literally impossible for anyone to have in the conditions the system has put you in). This made it seem like he would never have paid attention to her without the system making these modifications and that therefore he would never have really fallen in love with her unless she was artificially conditioned to meet all his standards, practically a doll. Aesthetically perfect.

[collapse]

Another thing that bothered me was his possessiveness, and I have to say that I LIKE a little bit of possessiveness in men, but that level already made me very upset.
Spoiler

There was a moment in the story when Gu Shishi was choosing her wedding dress, but he barred EVERYONE she liked because he thought she looked too pretty in them and didn't want anyone else to see her like that. He ended up buying the ones she wanted, in the next chapter, because he saw that she had even lost heart in choosing dresses and was upset, but it was still a scene that genuinely pissed me off.

[collapse]

Another thing that bothered me happened at the wedding party, but it wasn't because of the MC.

Spoiler

One of the halos the system gave the protagonist caused her to blush beautifully when she drank, but the side effect of this was that there was a high chance she would end up extremely drunk, to the point where she even had trouble walking. Behold, she takes a sip at her own wedding and this halo is activated against her will so that she can't enjoy the wedding party because she needs to go to her room and have her wedding night. It wasn't treated as a problem in the story and the protagonist herself wasn't too upset, but it was something that bothered me.

[collapse]

The story also has several unnecessary points. There was a moment when I skipped 2 chapters just to see if the story had already reached a certain point, and not only did it seem like it didn't get out of place, I was able to continue reading normally, because nothing important had happened in those chapters.

A few more things bothered me, like the various points of the story that were left unresolved and were even forgotten by the author, in addition to the misunderstandings but I don't want to spend all the characters available in just one review. Overall it was a fun story to read and good to pass the time, but it still let me down a little bit.

It was also quick to read, considering that I managed to finish it in two days, which is also a good point.

Sorry for any mistakes in English, this is not my native language and I used google translate to make my review in the language used on this site and a little easier to read. <<less

This novel really portray that money can buy anything.

The novel I read use money to kill, to buy wife/husband, etc. This time it use to extend life.

Anyway, its fun to read if you don't put yourself into the novel. If you do, you won't like it because you will think that MC is not that smart.

it's a nice novel. Nothing breaking trough but enjoyable and entraining. Some face sleeping, some dog food, just to pass the time. The couple it's very cute and they clearly care about each other and they have well round ending, also the secondary characters are very well developed and got their own motivations - except Chen Kexin, she was a complete cannon fodder.

tbh I don't found the beauty system too bad at all. I don't see any problem with "no hair loss" or "no body hair" "pretty eyes" "kissable lips" "good skin" "pretty eyebrows" "pretty when drunk" "smell like roses" we can get all these things with money and genetics. Besides she never changed her face shape or others characteristics. Same mechanics as using make up. It's not that bad.

Utter nonsense, s*upid, childish, potholes.

There are just too many things. The reason I give this on two is because it really made me smile at times. Some jokes and dialogues are good. But other than that, the plot and characters just makes me roll my eyes.

I don't know how people liked it but as someone who has read lots of fluff novels, this fluff wasn't that sweet. There were face slap after face slap through the entire story 🙄.

Of course this one is lacking common sense too. Well, many novels... more>> does so it was bearable. But honestly, I couldn't connect to the characters or plot.

Mc's character is questionable to me. Although author tried to show that the MC is independent and stuff but at the end she is relying on the system for her beauty and drawing skills. She looks more like hidden white lotus to me.

As for ml, at one side he berates his little brother to helping the villainess but at the other side he buys a company for FL to play with? OK I got it that you got money but is it necessary to berate others?

It's like “Your love is s*upidity, while my love is true love”

Around 80% of the novel, I find myself rolling my eyes, again and again.

I stickied till the end wanting the explanation about the system but after FL Got full lvl, the system suddenly disappeared without any explanation.

Also FL never told the ML about this transmigration. <<less

This novel genre was really like a junk food for me. I know those weren't healthy but I couldn't help to keep eating it because it was addictive. It could pretty much describe how I feel about this story. I know there will be many cliches and overused plots in this story but I still somehow enjoy it so much and even manage to finish it in 2 days.

Both MC and ML were a bit too good to be true because they're too perfect. Even when ML still had a... more>> phycological issue, he was already an elite whose assets was almost unparalleled. And of course he was super handsome too. One thing I like about him the most was the way he treated his son. Other ML from similar novels often got jealous over his own son because he took away most of his wife's attention. On the contrary, ML was a good father who doted on his son so much.

Another thing that I like was how the villain/villainess in this novel didn't always stay like that The author gave them a chance to repent themselves and many of them even became MC's best friends. This, of course, didn't include MC and ML's parents and Gu Wushuang.

Of course I still feel uncomfortable with several things in this novel, such as:

Spoiler

I don't like how MC's life span depended on ML's dottingness on her. It's kinda forcing MC to suck up to ML just to stay alive for another day.

I also don't like how the system rewared MC with superficial looks each time she was done with her quests because MC was already good enough but the author seemed to want to make her a more perfect woman by altering her looks again and again.

This novel is very light and fluffy. There’s not too much drama and is a typical romance story with a cold ceo and beautiful female lead.
