I was born with an incredibly frail body. When the curtain was about to close on my life at the age of 17, a breathtakingly cute angel with a gentle smile appeared before me and gave me the body of another person.

The owner of the body seems to have gone to end her own life. I got this body because her death was unscheduled, but I don’t intend to follow her path.

Anyways, this is a really healthy body! Not like the weak body I had at all!

Thank you very much! I’ll make sure to live life to the fullest in this body no matter what obstacles come my way!

What!? This girl was hated? Her family shuns her? That doesn’t matter. I can overcome anything now that I have a healthy body! I don’t care that she didn’t have friends. Besides, I didn’t have any either!

All right, I’ll try my best in this new life!

It's okay, but the antiquated ideas of what a female should be like rub at my senses like a cheese grater. If the original inhabitant of the body was a Bad Girl, in a bad way, then okay, cool, another reason for the MC to look awesome. Unfortunately, the characteristics that have been associated with the original being 'bad' are... not cool.

*Warning: rant-y review below.*

It's much like Stunning Edge in that the original owner of the body the MC pops into is a 'Horrible Person/antagonistic character', primarily bc she likes... more>> boys, & isn't shy about it. Chasing after boys isn't a great hobby, but it doesn't explain or excuse the utter loathing/scorn others have for the MC's predecessor. I know the author is trying to make the MC look good with some contrast but...

Not to mention that in this particular series, the original was a high school student. A high school student. I don't know about you all, but I definitely didn't have my priorities in order when it came to my hormones/etc back when I was a teen. My sense of self was as highly influenced by my peers and the social constructs of that time as any other student.

But somehow it's okay to call her a 'loose b*tch' because she wore makeup & showed interest in the opposite sex? First of all, what the flipping figs - sl*t shaming is NOT okay. I mean, I guess females exist to gain approval from the menfolk, but it doesn't count unless the approval is gained passively, right? Goodness forbid the female be active or aggressive in any way while trying to gain that approval. No, no - much too intimidating. So unattractive. Obviously she might as well be a prostitute.

Secondly, makeup shouldn't be some sort of scarlet letter?? I am East Asian & understand why older generations have their qualms about makeup and such amongst the youngins, but really? Makeup helps hide the flaws society is so eager to pick up on, and can boost self confidence. And a hormonal, likely insecure teenage girl with no one to boost her confidence or ameliorate her loneliness but herself? Not even her family members to support her? Not even her own mother who loves her for who she is rather than asking what 'went wrong'? Not even a single friend at school to assure her she doesn't need male approval to not feel alone/to not feel worthless? Not even a teacher who doesn't think of her with offensive slurs? And if she really is making some horrible choices, she doesn't have a single person (friend/family/teacher/anyone) willing to guide her? Hrmmmm. I wonder why ever she would commit su*cide. HRRRRMM.

Honestly, in my opinion, the adults in this situation are The Worst & should turn in their Adulting License asap. Their Parenting License too, if they have one.

*end of rant-y overview on why I think the attempts to portray the original as the terrible alternative to the MC smell of BS and close-minded bigotry*

But hey, at least the MC is pretty much a precious cinnabun.

(even if it comes at the cost of making the body's original owner a foil bc of all the wrong reasons)

Edit (after reading ch13) : ideas like makeup and assertiveness/take action attitude being associated with her being a horrible person and a 'loose b*tch' still rub me the wrong way, but at least her mom seems more supportive, and a little background was given on some of the things she did in the past & why MC thinks the original Aika committed su*cide. MC is also still as adorably green as ever. <<less

My reviews has small tidbits of spoilers, so it's best recommended if you skim through if you want to go into this blind without any spoilers whatsoever. This is also my own personal thoughts and feelings on this story.

There are many other people who gave this high, raving reviews. Unfortunately, my opinions lies on the opposite end of the spectrum. While this is a heartwarming, shoujo-like read with little drama, the characters don't appeal to me, and the atmosphere created is disheartening. I personally prefer darker stories so the summary... more>> really interested me. I love funny and sweet novels as well, but this was still a disappointment when I discovered that the author had no intentions of making this any more complex.

It's strengths lies in its simplicity and characters. The prose is nothing special or descriptive, and its translations are fairly nice to read (though the later/current translations have lots of side comments). However, the characters (especially Aika #2, our main protagonist) are something that I especially dislike about this story. Her overwhelming naivety annoys me more than it endears to me. I might prefer cool, smart leads, but I have no problems against an airhead. There is a difference between a character that makes me laugh and support because of their denseness (like the protagonist in Destruction Flag Otome), and a character that makes me want to punch and yell "Read the mood!" at every other chapter. Aika #2 falls under the later category.

Kimchi759's review fully discuses my main problem with Original!Aika's portrayal pretty well: slut-shaming. Judgecutioner's comment is something I disagree with, since being a "full-feminist" is not why I agree with Kimchi759's words. This obviously seems to contrast greatly with the general idea of a heartwarming story, but it's the main cause of her problems with literally everyone around her new life. If I had to chose which character I'd prefer between Aika #2 and Orginal!Aika, I'd happily chose the later if only because there's more potential of depth and because I have nothing against gyaru-like girls. This doesn't excuse Original!Aika's faults, but the author seems intent on making her a bad character to contrast with our ever-pure MC. Just because a female is hormonal teenager, proactive, and outwardly beautiful, it doesn't mean that she's a "loose b*tch". All I can think about is how narrow-minded everyone in the school (and the author) is. If you want another example, switch out Original!Aika's gender. Imagine how popular Male!Aika would be.

This doesn't mean that it's all bad. The plot, while shallow, is relatively stable as Aika #2 tries to make the best of her life. There are some moments where her optimism was endearing, and the characters are supportive (though the way they changed from outright hostility -> supportive besties was not a process I liked either.) Some of these positives are why I'm still reading this. All in all, if you like bubbly protagonists and a short, relatively simple plot, try it. If you have problems with shallow characters, the distinction between what makes a "good" and a "bad" female, and a lackluster plot, just skip this. <<less

This story is so fantastically sweet it gave me diabetes. The MC is just so extremely high on life, it's amazing.

I think it might have been dropped though, the website went down today. This absolutely deserves more.

If it was a mystery series focusing on the MC trying to find out why the original owner killed her self, I would give it a higher rating.

To be honest, I don't really care for the MC. She is too much of a "generic ideal of what a Japanese girl should be", a concept that I pretty much dislike. Its the average happy go lucky girl with no real character of her own. No depth. Nothing interesting.

The real Aika, yeah she had a tragic life but interesting and mysterious past.... more>> The replacement Aika boring slice of life.

In fact, if it was more of a mystery, that would be more interesting. The "old" her who died, as in the original owner of the body and what happened to her seemed 100000 times more interesting than the current main character. In fact, I only trudged through this C-rate novel to find out what really happened to the original character. And in fact, I honestly think that's what is keeping this story being remotely interesting. All the other characters are bland archetypes.

If the mystery of why she killed herself was solved, this story would lose everything that was interesting about it. In fact, I probably would have preferred reading the tragedy of the original owner of the body. That would be 1000 times more interesting to read, than a story with a bland character trying to be friends with other cookie cutter bland characters.

I mean seriously, the more you read it, the less it makes sense that the real Aika would kill her self. Unless the author goes into an in depth exploration of the psychology of what makes people commit su*cide (I really, really doubt the author would make it that interesting), you are just stuck with a generically sweet story without plot. Honestly, if you wanted to read something sweet and cute and lovely, there are plenty of others out there with better characters and better story. <<less

It's sweet and heartwarming story, with a naive protagonist. Author's main character is sympathetic and very easy to cheer for, and you will get to see sweetness overload moment.

But there is certain possible problem, that is inconsistent background of girl whose body our protagonist has taken over. While it is possible that author just has some explanation he prepared in advance for difference how girl who commited su*cide was perceived and how she really was, I am afraid of it being just author being inconsistent.

Also discard anything that Kimchi759 said.... more>> He/she simply wanted to feel offended, so he/she decided to interpret characters not explaining their anger, as them being angry because of make-up. This is, children, why you never go full feminist. <<less

I had high hopes for this from the description and the first two chapters, but I'm really not enjoying this by chapter 13.

Spoiler

The premise of the story is that a super cute and innocent girl who is in love with life transmigrates/reincarnates into the body of a girl with a horrible personality and who has done really horrible things. There is so much potential in this premise! The way I wish it would have gone was that the moment the main FL realized how horrible the original body's owner was, she should have done her best to fix things... But it was never her priority.

[collapse]

In fact I'm not really sure what her priority was. She didn't seem to have strong motivations, which frustrated me. I'm not here for a paper-clip adventure.

Spoiler

I was most frustrated with the weird residual chemical reactions that her body's brain had upon seeing the Ichinose character. It actually scientifically makes sense, but... I'm not for that... Apparently in the past girl's life, these feelings ruined her and everyone around her, so like... she's better off without these feelings.

ALSO, if the original girl was seriously so horrible, people's reactions to her were not negative enough, in my opinion. More people should be like Yuuya. She should have made friends with new people, people who never knew of her. But it was weird that people who knew her quickly believed in her amnesia (despite their couple of lines of cruel skepticism in the beginning). ??? Is it cause she's good looking? That's not enough for me as a reader...

[collapse]

I wish that the main FL was MORE in love with life. I wish she had done more weird and cool things like quitting the student council committee for the environmental committee.

Two other way better versions of this plot premise are: 1) Reincarnated into an Otome Game Villainess with only Destruction Flags and 2) Kenkyo, Kenjitshu. They're also former villains, but they are so much more interesting. <<less

I loved this one. It was nice reading from the point of view of someone who was so happy to be alive and healthy that nothing could get her down, without being a complete idiot the way many other happy-go-lucky protagonists are. Here's hoping someone else picks it back up.

It's alright. I was quite okay with reading it but honestly after the translator changed twice it became too unbearable :/

My biggest problem with the story itself is probably the naivety of the MC. It's cute and I really like the whole "appreciate everything" thing, but it was a bit too much. Also, I think the author tried too hard to make it seem as if the old Aika wasn't actually bad, but just misunderstood. I think it would've fine to make her the mostly terrible character that the story... more>> would suggest if not for the forcefulness of the author. A lot of commentors say people didn't like her because of slut-shaming, but you can clearly see it's not just that. It's the forceful and oppressive way she went about it; although he is friendly with her and there's some implication he could have liked her too, he himself says it's a bad memory being called out by Aika since she was so forceful.

Anyway, that's that. <<less

Soshite Shoujo wa Akujo no Karada o Te ni ireru presents interesting initial premise. A sickly girl was transported into the body of another healthy, albeit hated, girl. It was bittersweet, looking at how she relentlessly tried to be accepted. We also started to suspect whether the former girl was actually misunderstood by her surroundings, instead of simply evil. However, the novel contained half-hearted drama; the narratives and characters were somewhat weak and felt too artificial at some points. It was like it has to be this way because the... more>> plot will go that way, or so I guess. The MC overly naive attitude is also increasingly tiresome to see. Although, it could also be considered as adorable and heartwarming. Still, it may be something you want to read if you are looking for second-chance-in-life plot and cute female lead among slice-of-life genre. <<less

From the description, I expected a darker atmosphere and universe than what it actually is. It feels a bit like "Reincarnated into an Otome Game Villainess", the MC is dense and full of joy. Even if the character development in itself is not bad, it's not really realistic. After spending 17 years in hospital, I don't believe someone would be able to adapt so quickly in a new home, new background. The MC doesn't question her existence, her background is really shady, we don't know a lot, such as the... more>> thoughts she had while she was sick, or how she used to get along with her surrounding. Only the tip of the iceberg is scratched, so it feels like something is off. Same thing goes for the characters reaction. They just accept the fact as it is. Althrough it is a good slice of life novel, since the characters are bland, -1 star. <<less

I'm feeling rather sad that the long awaited update on this great series turn out to be a deleted information. The story itself wasn't reverse harem type like destruction flag otome, nor a dark one like eliza. It's a sweet feeling story that can lift your spirit. When she died, she got transported into a new body whom also a girl but hated by everyone around her. With her... more>> pure and adorable personality, she mend all the crack (at least all the crack until chapter 14) and striving her best to live in her new body. <<less

I like the vibe this novel has, both in the sense of giving a bedridden girl the chance to experience life and about uncovering the mystery of the MC's su*cide.

My main complaint about the novel is that, similar to other works in this genre, the high school feels completely unrealistically savage. The MC will ask people about her past, she'll learn about how terrible she acted, and she'll come to the conclusion that she clearly wronged a lot of people. But then, 5 chapters later, she'll get told by a... more>> usually new character that, in fact, the previous people were lying to her, or wearing a mask, or just about anything to make nice people seem just the worst. The story went from the MC being a girl who pushes others down stairs like sacks of rice, to the guy she likes confessing to another girl, to that being a fake confession, to the story about it being a fake confession also being fake, to the MC actually being the bullied girl in the school, to I don't even know. It's tough to follow a novel when the plot progresses by constantly telling the reader to disregard what they were told before. The MC also has meets with the people she needs to question about her past almost every day on the student council, so I'm not sure why she doesn't just ask them about her past. Although the novel unnecessarily pads out the plot, it does keep me generally interested in figuring out the real timeline.

I'm honestly not sure why other reviews say that this is about gender constructs? The MC's old self was disparaged for reasons entirely beyond her attraction to boys or her makeup. She was hated because she talked behind others' back, threatened people with blackmail right and left, and pushed people down stairs. She also broke up a loving couple because she wanted to date the guy (in the public perception at least), and her makeup was supposedly atrocious despite multiple people telling her that she'd look better with lighter makeup. I don't think this novel tries to affirm any gender constructs - in fact, the new MC's childishness is even called out for being inconvenient many times. She's childish because she's never seen many things before, and just because our ML Tanaka likes her purity I don't think the novel is trying to comment on gender relations as a whole? <<less

Ahhh... I don't know how to feel about this one. I guess I just find her too innocent and naive. At first it was endearing because I understood her past. But as I read more and more the more I grew tired and annoyed at the way she was portrayed. The story kept pushing this idea of what a girl should act like.... like frickin innocent doll. Her actions are like that of a child, it's cute when it's a child but if I met someone who acted like her.... more>> I wouldn't exactly want to hang out with her because this teenager acts like a kindergartner. I get that she couldn't do a lot due to her health in the last life. But still... so yeah its fluffy and she's sweet. But not my cup of tea for a protagonist. <<less

It's alright. Like other reviewers noted, it would be interesting to see the MC slowly figure out why Aika committed su*cide rather than see her adjust. And the story does slowly shift over to that. Going by the hints we have so far, Aika was a very unhappy girl that few people tried to understand and she didn't really help her own case by frequently reacting to everyone with hostility. She dressed kind of tr*shy and was aggressive in pursuing the boy she liked, but seemingly not the point that... more>> the boy or the girl he liked actually disliked her. In fact, they seem to have been two of her only friends and the boy might have liked her too. Her reputation is also a little confusing because it seems to have been entirely rumors with no substantiation.

So that character arc and exploration is fine. We'll probably get more, including an explanation for why she was genuinely pretty shitty to her family. The real trouble is that the story just has this kind of inherent blandness. The MC is cute and it's kind of interesting to see her explore what happened with Aika, but in the end I'm not really very invested. It's kind of hard to actually care about the cast. <<less

It's a very sweet story where the main character is overly optimistic and naive to the extent that you'll actually laugh! Being accustomed and not accustomed to things, the summary is somewhat of a fib but it truly shows off her her determination and optimism.

The sincerity is refreshing and her appreciation for everything and little mistakes are just adorable. Fret not about the plot either, the romance is paced and as far as drama goes, the main character is embroiled within something she doesn't understand. Relationship clarity will probably only... more>> come later, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

"Wicked Girl" "Villainous character" are overstated terms. As the previous "Akia" was villainous because of the acts of other people, with malicious intent or benevolent thoughts but she did play her own part to her terrible reputation.

Recommended as a bittersweet Slice of Life, romance comedy.

Only downside is the recurring scenes of dependence where she is too helpless to help herself. Stories realistic otherwise.
