The life of the old man living in the forest was far from smooth sailing.

In a world where everyone lived by contracting with monsters, the old man’s only partner was a slime.

Making a meager living by processing waste, the old man was getting by day-to-day. But one day, after casually speaking to his slime, he discovered that it possessed intelligence.

Overjoyed as his bond with the slime deepened, the old man, already advanced in age, passed away peacefully in his sleep.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself in his familiar old home. He saw the young form of his best friend, the slime. And he, too, had become young again.

He didn’t know what had happened.

But he resolved that this time, in this second chance at life, he would live it to the fullest, straight and true, together with his slime.
