Modern day rom-com centered around a "mob" character. It has a very interesting premise, the girls the MC used to have in his life were attracted to another guy, the "protagonist" of their little high school story. I won't go into detail because even a little bit feels like spoiling.

On a side note, I've tried to get into the web novel first but just couldn't do it. The character interactions seemed too forced. On the other hand it seems to be more natural here. Hopefully more chapters come out soon.

tbh there isn't enough of the series out yet to write a legitimate review, but this is my 2 cents on the series. It's an interesting premise with pretty good characters and character interactions, but holy sh*t this 'main protagonist' f*cker is so annoying. I realize that he's written with that intention, so in that sense it's good writing, but sometimes it annoys you so much that you don't feel like reading. This is a novel that toys with the idea of "if reality was a story". The MC considers himself a "mob", there's a "harem protagonist" in the same class, and somehow the three girls the MC had a connection with (not a romantic one, just a connection) ended up falling for the harem protag. The thing is, in the MC's perception, there's something fishy about it, as if a supernatural force was making the three girls act unlike themselves. Then there's the "main heroine" of the story, the girl the harem lead is pursuing while being kind to but not really recognising the feelings of the other girls. The harem lead is self-righteously protective of her, one might say yandere, and the MC, by virtue of befriending his main love interest, is forced out of his mob role to be a rival and an antagonist in the harem lead's story.

The main heroine is the one who doesn't conform to the "plot." She has a mysterious ability, some kind of synesthesia, which allows her to hear sounds from people based on their true intentions. The sound she hears from the harem lead is an extremely ugly one, to the point that it makes her physically unwell, so she closes herself off in order to minimise interaction with him. This makes her immune to the harem lead's protagonist charm and an anomaly in the MC's perceived rom com plot. Most other people are the same, though not as bad: boys covet her beauty while girls are jealous of the harem lead's attention for her. On the other hand, the sound of the MC, the mob, is an unusually clear and pleasant one, because he has no designs for her, only pure good intentions. She takes the initiative to befriend him, and only around him is she, a shy girl who has trouble expressing herself, able to show her true self. She's the driving force of the MC's character development, she motivates him to make an attempt to step out of the role of a mob and challenge the harem lead, if only to protect the main heroine from him.

Well, to put it simply, it's a scathing critique of the harem rom com genre in the form of a story, told from the viewpoint of a mob who occasionally dons the mantle of a protagonist (of his own private rom com with the FL) or an antagonist. Everything, every event and character, is seen through the lens of the MC's imaginary (?) rom com setup.

It's quite well written and interesting, with some decent depth and character development for the two main characters (I'm sure the other characters will be developed later on in the story). You just have to be able to take the MC's annoyingly low self-esteem and mob mentality and patiently wait for the character development. He's already making strides within the so far translated chapters, so it doesn't seem to be such a long wait; he'll probably find the courage within himself in the dramatic climax of the first volume. <<less

I really like the fMC, that's it pretty much. She's really cute and makes me smile, but I haven't read enough into the story yet to know enough about the MC. So far, he's still a loner who's stuck with the "im useless and will never play an important role in anyone's life" mindset, but I'm hoping that his personality will change and develop as he gets closer to the fMC, because this is how it usually goes, and this kind of development makes the novel gradually less annoying to... more>> read. Also, you'll have to bear with the antagonist stepping all over the MC because the MC wants to "play the role of a mob" to "protect" fMC, which in my opinion, is a realistic choice since theres nothing else he can do, but I didn't really want to see it in a light novel, which is somewhere I escape to not to just be met with reality again lol <<less
