Sakimori Kagami plays a VRMMORPG called Ark Earth Online. He is a veteran player with the name and appearance similar to an elderly bearded wizard from a certain book about a ring.

One day he purchases an appearance change item as a last resort to spend expiring currency and gets the idea of choosing what he would want to look like if his character was ever a girl.

Falling asleep should have suspended the game, but Kagami wakes up still online and feels the game has gotten a bit more realistic. Did Ark Earth Online finally get a long-awaited update? Or…

Guy who have game avatar that literaly, combination of Gandalf and Dumbledore. Suddenly had the game turn into Real. With a plot Twist, he become a Loli.
The premise sounds not convincing but it's a pretty good read. It's the adventure of an OP Loli damnit! I mean who wants to read a story of a Gandalf/Dumbledore fusion in another world right? Wait, actually it sounds interesting too... But this is Japanese Novel, Loli comes first!

... This review isn't helping isn't it?
I mean who reads review anyway... Just read... more>> and judge it yourself! I implore thee! <<less

Wanted to like it but...

It's kind of awful. The actual writing isn't very good-looking the story is excessively verbose yet says so little. The lack of anything happening is frustrating, even for a slice of life. 99% of the story is background and, even the parts that aren't, seem to only be set up for the author to launch into another multiple page back story explaining something minor, that adds little to the story at hand. Of course, backgroundis necessary, but this author needs to know that all context and... more>> no action makes an encyclopedia, not a story.

On the topic of "no action"- the characters' emotions are virtually non-existent and the author seems to be going through the motions of what a light novel does, without actually establishing a base for itself. It's just shallow, shallow, shallow. Overall, it's like suffering a slow death. I won't even get into the parts of the story that kinda creepy me out (like the loli obsession) as I've read plenty of other novels with similar themes that I still enjoyed. For this one, it's purely the execution that turned me off.

And then let's move on to the translation. Not too many major issues, but the number of small errors adds up to an annoyance like a lot of water drops add up to make a river. Ex: the fact that the translator's verb tenses continuously switch around, odd word order, and just weird, cryptic sentences make the less than mediocre story painful to read. And then the "witty" chapter titles the translator comes up with just come off as trying too hard and start to get annoying considering every one ends in "..." He's better off just leaving the author's original boring titles.

Now I know you're probably wondering why I bothered to review this story since I clearly hate everything about it, but I really don't hate it. I criticize it so harshly because it could have been a much better story considering the concept, but it seems like everyone involved insisted on making it as bad as possible. I'm simply disappointed in both the author's and translator's efforts, though I appreciate them nonetheless. Overall, I guess this is one of those stories where I recognize that it could be enjoyable or even good, but just happens to hit every single thing I dislike in light novel creation/translation. <<less

This is definitely one of my favorite read, which is why I've took it up upon my group to rewrite the whole series to do it justice. You can read the rewritten version of chapter 1 to 66 on Re:Library (still in progress).

Moving on to the story review, while the concept of finding yourself in another world as your game character isn't anything new, I like how the author make this seem so natural and unforced.

All the players were just in-game one day and everything seemed normal at first, but... more>> before they knew it, they started to experience things that wasn't normally possible, such as the sense of smell or pain. It was so natural that they didn't even think twice they were teleported to another world since that world was the game world itself. They just brushed it off as a new update at first, and that was also the case for our main character, who found him (?) self 30 years in the future with the "ideal female avatar" he created with the vanity case (a cash item that allows character modifications).

She was unsure of what to think of it, as everything suddenly feel so real, the grass, the air, and even the NPC had suddenly gained human emotions. She was left very CONFUSED because everything else was exactly as she remembered, the field, the towns, and even the history (excluding the blank 30 years she had missed out). And somehow, her original male avatar had become a legend?!

As such she decided to set out to find her old friends who had in been this world since the beginning to learn everything from them, but what awaits her was... <<less

Haven’t even finished chapter 7 and can’t go on... so many things that bug me about setting/characters/etc etc. This story is so detached from reality, as in, even for a fantasy work, characters need to act in ways that are relate-able,... as in, somewhat human (logical, or understandable, or emotional, whatever). The characters in this story act like either robots or aliens T_T

setting – because VR tech was developed, all companies *only* exist in VR now. No need for stores, for paperwork, for any hard copies of anything, even service... more>> industries now only exist in VR it seems. Schools don’t exist, and seems people are born, log online, and only ever log off for food and sleep. The s*upidity of the author is astounding... a single EMP will cause society in his world to completely collapse. Tbh, don’t even have a clue how society functions. Since people never meet in real since there is no reason to. Unless of course, they live in the matrix. and the game world is a matrix within the matrix.

Character – so many inconsistencies... the char has apparently played the game for 4 years, and despite it being a learning game, his gear+stats+skills have not changed in 4 years. people like him disappeared for 30 years, but he still expects the old players to do the exact same things they were doing when it was still a game. wut? as in hey look I got transported to the future and everything became real, my best friend likes to play basketball... so of course he is you know, still playing basketball, who needs to even know what the hell happened to us anyway?

The 1st thing he notices when he gains consciousness is the smell of grass... so the 1st thing he does,... is pull it out then eat it... wut o.O? then he notices the taste of his drool... But despite his apparently godlike observation skills, he doesn’t notice that his gender has changed lololol.

the char is complete opposite of The New Gates char – no foresight, no planning, no sense of danger, no sense of caution... in fact, the char is “special”... from putting grass in his mouth to staring at butterflies to completely not noticing people talking to him and just blanking out... dude doesn’t even try to log out, and when he finally notices he can’t, no biggie.

game settings – people are pretty much forced to join a country because not doing so has several disadvantages like... complete item box lost on death, 24 hour death penalty, etc etc. Just based on that, its obvious that the game is a complete kuso-ge (sh*t game). w/c is quite understandable since the game has only been updated 2x in 4 years... which is a pro for the players...

players trapped in this world for 30 years, and there has not been any improvement in technology... like log horizon where everyone is a caveman...

So many more things... the details are what makes stories like this enjoyable... so...

2/5

then I think this is really ridiculous so

Raw reader here. I wouldn't quite put this series in my favorites, but maybe one rank below that?

Basic summary: VRMMO players get transferred to another world identical to the game. Not all at once, though, but rather here and there over a course of many years. The MC shows up decades later. In the game the MC RPed a summoner character who was basically Gandalf. Due to an accident in the transfer, he wound up in the body of a young girl instead. In the game his guild had created... more>> a player-run nation that's in trouble now that it's real life. The main McGuffin driving the story is the MC searching out her lost companions to save the country.

What's notable about this story is that it really takes its time, going over every detail and carefully building the world. It's been 4 years since it first began, but in the raws the MC has still only found a few of her companions. This means it can kind of drag a little bit at times, but at the same time it gives a real sense of going on an adventure I've seen few series match.

I'll give special mention to the MC's abilities. She's a summoner who occasionally uses a sort of magic kung-fu, and the author does a good job of making it interesting as she explores what she can do now that the game is real. The fight scenes are usually pretty fun and interesting.

I will say that I think the first parts are some of the weakest of the series, but that it gets more interesting later IMO. Hopefully someday the translation gets that far.

On that note, it's a bit of a difficult series to give a good translation to. The MC has a way of very explicitly talking like an old man in Japanese that's difficult to translate to English without sounding stilted. <<less

I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good gender bender OP character. The story is nice and most certainly enjoyable when people see the MC power.

That being said, I do not recommend reading the UndefTrans translations of ch48-57. The reading is so difficult to comprehend and it ruins the joy of reading. So I suggest waiting for properly translated chapters after this to read. It's kind of slow now but still worth the good read!

Much too wordy, too much circle jerk of the MC, and overall the story lacks focus without a concrete goal.

MC is kinda cute though.

I Was hesitant to touch this because it's genderbender but oh boy im glad I did. Decided to take the plunge after she anime was greenlit and enjoyed it quiet well. It gave a new perspective after the world has assimilated the otherworlder and many of them are rulers of their own kingdom. Our heroine's bff is the king was a nice touch. He can govern while our heroine go adventuring. The tr*p jokes are there but it's insignificant enough to ignore and not important to the overall plot.

Note: The... more>> MC is a Class A pe*vert land is not above using her appearance to cop out feels or oogle. She's still kind and won't hesitate to help people and genuinely cares about others. But she does have this character flaw.

Plot is better than I expected from the title and premise. The illustrations are beautiful. A chef's kiss to the illustrator.

The main plot revolves around Mira going around the world searching for the other Wiseman exploring different places and noting how different they are compared to the days of gaming. On thr journey she discovers that they is a group kidnapping the human friendly and benign spirits for unknown purposes. And another mysterious religious group fighting them.

Shme the anime was a doodoo, duck that Studio and the publishers. It opened my eyes to the genderbender Isekai and I learnt I actually like them. They are the secund best thing to female OP Isekai MC. The other alternative is Otome Isekai. Only Sense Online and A Last Wild Boss Appeared and Hero's Daughter are some of my favourite Isekai. Reborn to master the blade trailer looks good, fingers crossed they don't mess that up. <<less

Spoiler

I have caught up with the raw. I would say it's a solid novel, sometimes too long-winded at some point. The explanation and lore are great usually too much on trivial that you would forget in a few minutes. The worst part was the thief arc. They were talking so much that I could skip 20 chapters without missing a thing. Logic is also solid and I rarely find any plot holes to complain about which is commendable for a Fantasy JP novel. MC's power level was kept in check all the time and the fights are fun and exciting. Most characters are meaningful and will show up again from time to time, with the uniqueness of their traits, making them comfortably memorable.

The good thing about this novel that I like very much is the actual scrutinizing of the skills MC has. MC takes time to analyze his old and new skills, combine, edit, improve, and explain the logic to the reader. It's not something that popup immediately like many many mediocre novels, instantly knows how to use it.
The plot is straightforward. As of c463, The treaty hasn't ended yet but at least most of the Wis**en were found.
The entire novel is quite laid back and not recommended for readers who want an action scene every other chapter. The novel also has an extra positive vibe. There will be no backstabbing, no betrayal, and no one dying in the scene. Pretty good if you ask me, I don't have to use my brain and fully immerse in the story and lore without care.

if you already get used by light writing style then this series maybe wouldn't fit with you, cause almost every detail described by writer, if I should make an example maybe goblin slayer will be similiar, but with less comedy and more detail.

In the end I think this series have it own advantages that made me still reading it even with long and solid chapter, so rather than rate it without even read single chapter but just see those bad review I think you just have to read it a... more>> bit and rate it by yourself <<less

One of a few nice isekai novel with a real story, and no harem or cheesy love story ever hinted. However from chapter 47 above the translations are horrible it gave me brain hemorrhage; so I dropped this novel.

The story progression is kinda slow with the author tried to build the backstory, as the MC apparently skipped 30 years; so it's kinda understandable.

The fighting are cool with the MC using combination of summoning and close-quarter combat which is his/her signature.

Putting the general premise of the story, video game isekai stories are horrible because of the shoddy world building with the “it’s a game excuse”. However, this one is different. It develops the world over time, bit by bit, making the world feel fleshed out but not overwhelming. Different areas have their own feel, from robust cityscapes to peaceful villages or tense military camps. Also, the MC develops as a way person splendidly throughout the story. The only downside are the sometimes encumbering descriptions of how cute he/she is. Overall... more>> though, I’d you’re looking for an OP MC fantasy story with good character development, fleshed out characters and a healthy dollop of mystery and action, check this out (also Re:Library’s translations are top - notch). <<less

TLDR: Starts out as a solid 4+in the beginning, once she gets traveling it becomes complete gibberish

It was sad reading this. There were all kinds of plot threads being opened up in the opening. You had potential romance, crises, kingdom/tech building, the whole issue of her identity, revive her class, all got shelved for an incomprehensible travelogue. Even the manga winds up being a headscratcher

Very fun novel, terrible translation. One of the main aspects of the MC is the way he/she talks (think a bit antiquated english with a sound of grandeur fitting of a wise old noble man). Sadly this aspect is completely removed during the translation, making her interactions with the characters a lot less fun due to the lack of gap moe between her speech and her actions.

There is no story, It is all exposition and scattered thoughts of a girl (or before man or sage) till this point.

All the things that happened and conversations together till this point (chapter8) will not amount to a single chapter, It is only filler and explanation of not much important stuff.

if you want something engaging, steer away from this one.

The translation is very good and smooth. (+1 star)

This series is pretty interesting. A guy role playing as Gandalf in a mmorpg gets trapped in the world, but the last thing before he got trapped was play around with a cash shop 'cosmetic change' item which changes him into a beautiful silver haired loli.

This series is a bit on the slower side and feels more like a slice of life. It is quite enjoyable because the author is good with little details and the interactions he has with people are very organic.

When you get into the 80s for chapters, the translator made some odd choices, the hiddens names are code names, however the translator used the Japanese instead of English translation, Hebi, is Snake, Sasori is Scorpion, so there may be other names they might have done this with, even one chapters titles is affected, "Sasori Of The Hidden", should actually be "Scorpion of the Hidden".

This series is a hidden gem. A good, decent and well fleshed-out setting. However it's too much verbose, redundant and unrelatable. Also sadly to say that the MC is incomprehensible as you get started from the first chapters, it's cringy. Not what you expect from a person that lives in a far future from ours. His hindsight is too shallow. Its like the human logic of reasoning has been removed from this series. And what do you usually expect from a jap. novel?
.... jap beta MC

Although aside from that,... more>> it's a good read for someone who waits for their fav. novel to update. <<less

its a a pretty fun story but my gripe is how the MC behaves.... even though its premise is guy in a girl body, it just doesnt really click it but rather the feminine actions of the said guy feels natural and the male actions feel forceful, rather than that its a pretty enjoyable series, for someone who roleplays as an old man there should be alot of habits bound to develop but from all ive seen its just his figure of speech thats stuck. honestly just wish the cute... more>> loli would behave as an old man making the said character more excentrics in the eyes of others... <<less
