I have a problem with Hinami Asuka. Because I returned to the modern world from another realm, I’ve become an outcast at high school. And then, my girlfriend next door—Fumizuki Sakuya—comes into my room through the window. Sakuya is my classmate and was once a witch who fought against me as an enemy in another world. She still holds a grudge over losing to me and continues to antagonize me. My wish is to attain a peaceful everyday life. To achieve that, I must defeat her once more so that she won’t bother me again. I begin another battle with Sakuya—and in the process, I uncover her secrets and the true reason she came to see me. This is the story of how we, who had the worst possible first meeting in another world, come to experience the best of our youth.

I very rarely take the time to write reviews, but for this story, I feel like there is so much to talk about it.

First is the concept. A weird-sounding concept that's somewhat creative isn't really uncommon, and 90% of those light novels turn into tr*sh that gives no justice to the creativity of their concepts. I even assumed this story would just turn into a normal indulgent school life romcom with the two main characters having some magical powers. I was wrong, and the fact that they had been summoned... more>> to the other world has been keept relevant to the story for the chapters I've read. Its consequences have been explored very well so far, even though we know basically nothing about that world they came back from. (I also find it hilarious that both of them describe that entire world like a black company. Truly a Japanese classic.)

Second is the characters. The characters are so unexpectedly fleshed-out. The ML and FML both have unique and reasonable personalities (at least to their circumstances). They both have their recognizable flaws (ML with his lack of self care, FML with her fake personalities and a bit of impulsitivity), and those flaws make them who they are. The side characters have been given distinct personanility with a recognizable voice in their dialogue. There was even a debate over the righteousness of whether you should eat the syrup soaked cherry before or after finishing the drink. It's interesting, I swear.

Third is the writing. I don't know Japanese and therefore, cannot read the raws. But for what I could read, the sentence structure and the emotional flow are conveyed excellently. The actions and settings are described vividly and remarkably well for this medium. Though there aren't any diallogue tags, and I can't even tell if some POV switch tags are missing. It was a really confusing read that made me reread it multiple times, but I reckon I would get used to it after a moment. <<less
