I possessed the body of an extra character, the stepmother who was torn to pieces at the hands of her devilish stepson on the first page of the novel. Because she was a witch’s illegitimate child, Sinclair was ab*sed both by her half-siblings and her father, the Marquis. She was handed over in a political marriage to Grand Duke Gerald Vonzeyer.

And then, she was given a task: Capture the heart of the Grand Duke and mu*der his nephew, the young prince, before he turns into a demon!

‘I should escape the death flag at all costs to avoid ending up like Sinclair in the original.’

Hard to say at this point.

The translation is very good. No blatant errors and good use of idiom. The writing is clear and concise, rather nice to read just on it's own.

The problem is that so far there;s no grab in the story. Nothing hooks the reader in. There's not enough backstory to make you care about her life on earth, and the new world is as generic as it gets. European ambiance, a Duke, a cute moppet doomed by s curse.

Maybe the writer can take it up a notch,... more>> just have to wait and see <<less

I had no ambition to write a review so soon, but I feel the need to add a different perspective

This is rofan for geek ? It's comedic, and it's both brainy and brainless

nothing is too original true, appart from the MC being a chemist/physicist with high iq and it's a bit more than a gimmick, you have bits of science every now and then and a big part of her endeavors are to related her knowledge. The other focus is food (again) , it suffers from the same ridiculous prejudice... more>> but well it's a fiction. She's very hyper (sometimes too much) and again, knows the book far too well. She's all over the place, bossy and shaking things like she own the place but at the same time, she's a relationship idiot. She comes up with the word divorce on her wedding day, not knowing her husband as a person, no knowing the culture of the world, and that lack of commitment is a huge source of misunderstandings. As her husband will also mention why would she get so involved and raise every one's hope when she's planning to dump them all ?

So is Gerard bad ? Personally I dont think so. In this caricature of a word the current king family fearing for its legitimacy has been threatening him, his estate, his nephew, and put his mother in jail. She is the woman he is forced to marry, she should be the emperor spie (actually she's commissioned to kill the child) . She's also full of weird and lies and bad things started to happen as soon as she came. Honestly it would be surprising if he didn't doubt her when she enter his personal space, dig his forbidden book, make some strange changes everywhere, with a plan to live ? It's not making sense, she's totally inconsistent ! Why does she get involve ? Not only is he perfectly legitimate to wonder, I think he's pretty soft in his reply - btw the annexe is his own mother residence and obviously she can move as she please with a single escort

So is he good ? Well not entirely; He support her as his wife and covers for her perfectly, let her do as she please despite how suspicious she can be, but he obviously he has very bad communication skills : the guy is on the edge, he doesn't know how to ask nicely and even less to clarify his doubts - that's beyond the lack of confidence, that is a ridiculous lack of social skill (it will be blamed on the love brain I suppose)

But let's makes this clear the communication and the romance are the brainless part : why would he fall for her ? Why would he get jealous and imagine a lover (she does the same) - why would they both talk about different thing every time they interact ? The double dialogue between what's said and what's heard is certainly fun, but there's a lot, and I mean a LOT of useless misunderstandings - let's hope it doesn't last

The pace - ah, it feels quasi hysterical (she's hyper :seriously don't add sugar) - but not much happen plot wise - maybe not much is to be expected

is it worth reading ? Well, it's not deep it's pretty fun?the translation is awesome

(Historical divergence : no ancient time food were not bland, they knew plants and wild edibles are everything but tasteless - spices were used as preservatives since antiquity at least - also yeast as been documented in ancient Egypt - note : Middle Ages wine was nothing like today's wine (low alcohol) and it was used cut with water for disease prevention, it should only have had very low alcohol content :p) <<less

This story could be a fluffy little geeky romance but they have no communication.

She's terrified of him finding out she has witch blood and continually does misleading things without bothering to explain herself to him. And when he tries to find out she acts so suspicious he thinks she's having an affair

At this point this story is barely worth 2 stars. The author has made someone who supposedly has a genius level iq and eq into an idiot. It's annoying to watch.

What a disappointment... The plot is so interesting and had so much potencial, (especially because I love stories where the main character must be a stepmother) the characters also looked interesting and I tried my best to see how the outcome would happen but I couldn't stand it!!! I couldn't continue reading no matter how hard I tried.

The main character is INSOPORTABLE, she is one of those FL hate the most, she is impulsive, first she acts and then she thinks, immature and not smart at all. An example:... more>>

Other than that I hate the narrative, it goes too far off topic when it comes to explaining the story.

Also because I think the author wanted to give it a touch of comedy with the main character's thoughts at times, but I think comedy doesn't suit the type of story she's writing.

Another thing that does not fit is that

we are told from one moment to another that the protagonist knows martial arts.... Yeah right, the whole story explaining that she was a chemistry teacher and Pumm! Suddenly thanks to the script she knows martial arts.

I think it was a desperate attempt by the author to put a "cool" trait to her protagonist that in the end was forced.

If only the plot had been treated more seriously and the protagonist had a few more brain cells the story would have been merely interesting and entertaining <<less

This guy gerard is a mess lol.

Point sword toward her neck

Treat her like crap

Confine her into a separate annex duh

Question everything she does and not even bother listen to her, not that he let her answers or explains lol lmao.

And yet he wants her to fulfill her duties as a duchess so hypocrite.

I don't blame Sinclair, she has to be ruthless and savage toward him to protect herself.

She don't treat the kid badly, she tries her best and think of the best for the family and people in the estate but all she received were scorn and spites from her husband duh.

In short, Gerard is tr*sh.

There's no trust between them, not that the guy willing to establish one. She should just think of plan B for escape already, and ignore him.

Oh BTW, their first night is a mess, he ordered her not touch him like duh wtf. Clearly it was a messy and a bad experience for her (she drinks before the act cuz she don't want to remember it). Like wth she even did to guaranteed that shitty treatment? Is it because she was from an opposition noble family that he was forced to marry? Or is it because she was the empress sister? <<less
