The novel feels like it was written for 12 year olds. The sense of "cool" is childish, and that reflects in the writing and flow of events. A bad case of "Perfect Protagonist" syndrome is exhibited, and the universe really bends itself to paint the MC in a good light.

Ch 74.

This is really similar with shura’s wrath. The MC, the chain quest, the world.. Just a bit less hyperbolic. About your all powerfull MC that walk the mmo world like a xianxia character.

Certainly doesn't have any intriguing plot. Just loot p*rn and easy to read, enjoyable fun. Not the best for sure, not even in its genre, but well, it's still a good read I follow.

I won't talk much about the outside world of the novel, as the base of this novel is about his journey in the VRMMO he is playing, Kismet. The MC though, who is supposed to be retired, can't seem to put his title of King of Assassins down.

We are constantly reminded how he is, in fact, The King of Assassins, pretty much every time he has an inner monologue. It's as if he forgot that he retired at all, since he can't put the past behind him.

The MC, who has... more>> a luck stat of 8 by the way, seems to be the chosen protagonist of Kismet. Despite being not even close to the first player to join the game, the MC (who is the King of Assassins if you haven't heard) gets two super special snowflake skills for being the first player to have two of his stats at max'?' for the initial scan.

With those two skills, the system begins its downfall by constantly smashing the MC with the perfect skills he needs, all dropped skills being perfect for his character, mobs dropping just the piece of gear he is missing. Loot Tables? Not for the king! He gets what he needs.

Everything the game does screams of imbalance. The MC or should I say, The King of Assassins, blazes through the levels like a comet, soloing bosses like nothing while all the other players are still barely group fighting wolves. The MC is already broken while still in the beginner village, I can only imagine how much worse it will get later. <<less

An early review.

Not much to go on really, this is your typical vmmorpg Chinese story, you either like it or hate it. Yes there are the usual cliches, but so far there are one or two small twist that are a pleasant suprise.

Spoiler

examples:

He is a at 99% exp and needs one more mob to level up and he meets a BOSS level monster, but unlike other novels he does not go to fight it, and just goes back to town to get prepared.

Or the mandatory street thugs that harass the pretty and poor food stall owner, but instead of playing with them for 100 chapter, he kills them the next chapter + their entire gang.

[collapse]

But the translation quality is awful, after 6 chapter I switched to Google translated raws. I feel the translator was half translating and half making up the story.

Some big mistakes I found:

The names of 2 characters are horribly wrong. One is a girl named Tian'er, but since the tian means "sweet", when people call her, it is translated as "Oh sweet little girl". The other is a player named Ye ZiFeng, he is translated as Yezekeal.

And the biggest mistake, when the MC trades the sword he got at the start for the gauntlets, he translates the gauntlest with 1% drop rate increase and even explains why that 1% drop rate increase is good, when it is actually a 1% crit chance increase.

Also the name of th game is actually something like "Heavenly Fate", but Kismet also means fate so I guess its alright, I just don't like it when translators change the names of things in novels.

So story is nice so far, cliched but also somewhat refreshing. If you don't mind all that falsly translated information, then you can read from the translated chapters (chapter 1-48 are done by the same transator) or do like me and use Google translate <<less

I like game settings very much. That the MC can relate his in game avatar to his former profession as an assassin helps a lot and is nice twist.

The other reviews spoke about the main points. But with the latest chapters, 49 and 50, the quality drops. This sentimental stuff which is bearable in earlier chapters get out of hand. It feels like he is starting shedding tears like a 10 year old girl anytime soon, because of a game and NPCs. That feels borderline s*upid.

I don’t know why the... more>> author tries to drown the reader in repetitive inner monologues. It does not help to advance the story and is simply annoying. At least you know quite early when to quit and it’s not like e.g. Zhan Long that you realise at chap 200 or 300 the story itself isn’t worth it anymore.

I still hope the bad story (telling) development was not the main and real reason for Japtem to drop it, but the next chapters will tell and I can decide for myself.

--------

Oh, I read another 4 chapters and it gets even worse. It's a clear drop now. Does the author still remember he is writing about some ingame content? I had to be some kind of masochist to read any further.

What a waste of interesting story potential... <<less
