By coincidence, Li Yunmu found a super machine from humanity’s age of darkness. From that point onwards, his ordinary life would never be the same! Aptitude? Innate talent? What are these? Could they be eaten?

I have neither aptitude nor innate skill, but my shadow can level up using hacks. Experience, Ability points, battle prowess… all of them could be hacked. Even while he is asleep or tired, he could still increase his skills.

[Ding, your shadow has killed an ant, you have gained experience points and ability points.] [Ding, your shadow has successfully killed a dragonfly, it dropped a dimensionality box.] Crap, even killing insects can also increase his experience and get him rewards. What else!

Okay, so here is my first posting a review, pardon my english

i heard this novel from chat group in lnmtl

Someone said there's new novel in qidian, named shadow hack, he/she said this novel is shit, not worth your time reading this novel, so I'm wondering and decide to read this novel

... more>> From the synopsis, my first impression is interesting, awesome, amazing etc

Then I read it from chapter 1 to 20 (there're just 20 chapters because it's new novel)

and my thought "quite interesting"

MC is your average teenager, with average family, average face, average brain, but when he got his new cheat the hack system, yeah he turn 180 degree, suddenly he become very confident, and matured.

There're so many plot hole in this novel and sometime the author forget to mention what use for the treasure he got

Overall I really like this novel, i've read some novels like ATG, AWE, Magus world (leylin), TGD

sorry for horrible grammar <<less

Everyone, please ignore those rubbish review. From the title already written "hack". What is hack? In game-term it should be cheating with some kind of tools and program. Since it's "hack" system off course it's aim to get the host get strongest and easy "farming" as fast as possible. What kind of logic when people said the MC is bla bla bla, wake up, , , this is goddamn hack which aim to get "everything" easy. If you don't like this kind of "easy" hack then f*ck off. Some said... more>> the story is inconsistencies, lack world building and more other, yes it is, but I think the novel considered fast pace ? Why because the early struggle is not the vocal point. I think by the chapter 220+ the story should be more deep since MC create loots of trouble. And here let me tell you why early chapter it seems rushed? Because MC world has many dimension layer, right now MC in 5th layer dimension, there still 6th 7th 8th and might be more. <<less

Well I dont get the low rate on this novel, it's not THAT bad, sure it has some flaws but its nothing major, lets see:... more>>
Spoiler

The MC is too op: Hes HACKING the entire novel, you wanted him playing for balance? Really?! Of course hes gonna blow everyone he can

The MC is not low profile, even when he said he would: Hes father got disabled and frammed, the family were sinking into real poverty, he going true granted money and secured the family

The MC mu*der a welll know fluxer: If you read the novel the dude tryed to kill the MC, he openly used killing arts and the older fluxer who see it expected one of the 2 to die.

The MC is using skills WAY above hes lvl: Hacking? Nah in truth the novel explain most of the martial tech used in the world were partial or really incomplete, but the hack can restore any of the broken arts to the glorious 100% making a B lvl art go to A or even S rank, it can even give the MC lost arts like insect moves from loot boxes wops I mean treasures. Uhm in the end its hacking again then.

No one suspect the MC ultra powers: everyone in the city create from nothing a secret sect and place the MC as part of it, they also say he have a powerfull secret bloodline, about the clan the MC dont even try to dismis it, after all its all good and it make things work better for him, he also reinforce the lie using the shadows as other clan members. Now the bloodline he tryed to dissmiss, but no one belives him and some dudes even think hes blood is a good elixir, hunting him for it every time its possible.

The MC turned into a psycho and started killing everyone who opose him: Until ch 156 the MC only killed people who tryed to kill him, if not he would alread killed the rich group who almost killed him 2 times and become friends with him, the misterious girl who probed hes secrets and lended a monster book in the end, or everyone from the city he come from, who almost 100% lyed about a duel and most keep trying to hurt or kill him, then again hes 1 kill was from this group... And there hes ex who dumped him in front of everyone... Well lets just say hes still on control?

Real plot holes for me:

How the hell can you absorve a dead monster in the "real world" go to virtual or inner world and dump it? I now its a "dimension thing" but explore this a litle more? If anyone dominate this thing they could absorb any atack and release it in the virtual world, or even clone the naruto last batle, moving body opparts and atacks trough worlds! Thats wrong dude.

About the family, they dont even suffer pressure from all the hapenings in the 156 first chapters, really? theres a massive hunt for the MC, there is a dude with world power after him wanting to literally drink hes blood, but no one is evil enough to go after hes friends and parents?!

The tower magical announce that he got lvl 15, but when he got lvl 20+ he can choose AFTER finish it to not let anyone know, why the tower didint show it before?! Yeah plot armor!

The author keep going on how awesome the MC is but dude, just let he do awesome things, its better than "they fell the shame from they actions..." no one die from shame! And you dont need to revenge every litle thing in your life, otherwise theres no time to live!

[collapse]

Then again not perfect, want perfection? Go see Clannad and cry like a litle girl, its worth it! <<less

I'm not one to believe all the bad reviews I read. I always decide a novels fate after reading between 20-100 chapters. Novels that already have 2000+ chapters released are usually the ones I wait until chapter 100 until I review.

Enough about that. This novel has some very s*upid plot-holes, and I have only reached chapter 21.

I'm too drunk so I decided to give one of the biggest plot-holes I just read in the story.

Spoiler

The MC entered the 5th dimension to "train" and for some reason, never bothered to gain XP from his 'Shadow Hack System' during the whole month he was there. His excuse was something about not knowing any of the areas in the 5th dimension to train in, but from what we know at the beginning of the novel, the "System" is able to find suitable training grounds by itself.

Of course the MC encounters a situation where he is going to have to train somewhere in the 5th dimension, only to discover that it takes a couple days for his 'system' to acclimate to the 5th dimension.

[collapse]

I think the author of this novel has read Swallowed Star.

The cliche with getting medicine to heal a family members legs, and that only virtual reality thing.

Great start (as always) butthe choice made were wrong moreover the MC is s*upid. Let me explain myself, firstly his device isway toooooo op he literally has no use to move and fight by himself however he choose to go in the vanguard and use the same skill as his clone in the virtual world (truly smart), secondly the people around him are totaly mentally deficient he's straight outa nowhere ant seems to take out skills equipement cultivation ressources out of his ass but no one seems to realize it,... more>> thirdly like I said his device is just the more op I ever seen but he is soooo s*upid to use it properly a little question for you reader you have a clone that doesn't look lile you that couldn't die that can hide in the darkness what will you do?

-go in the wilderness to kill monsters to get cultivation ressources in a team using your strongest skill long lost by humanity

-f*cking steal to others with your shadow cuz you can't be found and staying in hide in a tr*shy team using tr*shy skill or don't go out at all creating a network for information with his shadow (intel is what the MC lack the most but he don't care because he's s*upid)

To conclude (the bad side) this story lack sense generally when you try to put game settings in a story with cultivation it's a failure. f*cking how can you master a skill without training it? Just put skill point... nah you don't need to be used to it I told you just put skill point!

one of the most frustrating story out ther

BUT BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS A BUT (APS TO MARK THE CHANGEMENT)

the author try to show te social ascension of a family (5 chapters) it's not really well done and it's short but it's here. He shows us the relationship between the MC and his adopted sister. I may have forgotten some good points but for some I deliberatly don't point it out because it isn't new in the novels industry. <<less

DO NOT READ.

First half of the series was bearable, but the second half was a just a ridiculous joke. It became entirely different that it was so hard to follow. Not just the MC, but every character built up on the first half became different all of a sudden.

It was truly a new novel. With a different storyline, plot, and premise. It changed from a cultivation novel to a parody novel without any transition or whatsoever. I mean, just imagine that.

It is so ridiculous. So I beg of you, please... more>> do not read this. The author plays around with not just its readers but also the novel itself. <<less

Meh novel, Meh MC. But well that just makes it ur usual cultivation novel.
Shor explanation:
if u intend to read it. Read it its not bad. If you are wondering weather to read it or not and thats why you are in the comments, just start the novel and see if you like it or not.

Long explanation
is it bad? Not really it has its own charisma such as always making you wonder to what high can the system support the user. I like the whole idea of MC being able to travel between

worlds

as in many other cultivation novels they usually return for like 10 chapters and then we forget about it.

Is it good? Not really. At times the story just feels like a bother to read. And I am saying it as someone who uses tts to listen to the novel and it still feels, bothersome. Author usually doesn't you some charactars for 300+ chap and then makes you wonther who the hell was this again? I feel like the world buiding is not as bad as other similar novels but could make some improvement when it comes to symplifying the cultivation level, because its a mess untill chapter 400+ where we finally get a decent explanation of the cultivation layers and so on. So far the whole idea of family in the novel and some of his subordinate are kinda just useless. Unnided for the story on my opinion.

In short, it gets bad really fast.

In a few more words, GLC suddenly gives no more f*cks and starts doing whatever comes to his head and seems cool enough to use, then uses lots of dialogue that come from nowhere and for no reason to explain stuff. And if you think that you are okay to go with one explanation of 2 lines-long paragraphs, well nope, you'll get that explanation another few times more per chapter, gl.

It's become so dull and blank that GLC starts feeling up useless information that... more>> you would normally see in 'lifehacks' of yt, fitting huh. <<less

Bad news: it's a meh novel. Good news: it's nowhere as bad as some reviews make it out to be, having judged it prematurely. Though perhaps I, too, have done so (with 300 chapters instead), but I can't be bothered to read anymore.

The protagonist is indeed rather bad. His personality, I mean. He also doesn't really have any special charisma (in other words, he has no particularly likable points as far as I am concerned as a reader). The things I can acknowledge about him are his tendency to develop... more>> each aspect as a warrior (ie. speed, power, stamina, defense, and so on) without leaving any out and the fact that he isn't as dumb as many protagonists, and conducts himself smartly (at least at times).

Other characters... let's just say they're neither good nor bad. They're mostly boring in the first 300 chapters imo, but there were some promising ones (yet it also feels as though it'll take literal hundreds of chapters for various important character-centered developments to take place). The only real complaint I have are those "buddies" MC makes early on. Why are Chinese male leads' friends always some silly ret*rds? Will it really threaten the wish fulfillment if the protagonist's close friend is a strong, capable, and not ugly dude (I mention the last point coz they're usually fat or ugly to make the MC stand out...) ?

The plot is boring in the first 50-150 chapters (sorry, I can't remember exactly), but it picks up with time. However, it also feels pretty boring. The ever-present "going to a higher-lvl world" trope wasn't executed in a typical way here, nor even a way I anticipated, but it seems to lead to a boring filler mega arc, so I dropped this novel soon after it began. It just feels like it's going to take hundreds of chapters for the novel to get interesting (if it even happens), and I can't be bothered to waste my time.

Setting is okayish, I suppose. I mean, it's a bit original, but it's nothing special. The system is overly convenient.

Alright, like I said, there were some points other reviewers exaggerated (partially because they didn't read on) :

  • although the system allows MC to simply farm exp and skill points without fighting, MC only does it at the beginning, and actually risks his precious bu*t a lot later on (well, okay, he does it mostly after being 100% sure he won't die)
  • the MC did overreact about his childhood friend, but it's also okay imo, because if you are rejected by a girl, then you either keep trying or move on, and he moved on in his own way; not like he hated or destroyed her after
  • the MC did pull a dck move on his friend in the first 100 chapters, not to mention the friend got forgotten; I kind of want to emphasize this was no exaggeration
  • MC killing his classmate was okay since the latter wanted to kill him "by accident, " but yeah, it was s*upidly glossed over
  • i didn't really notice any racist parts, but then again, I only skimmed through quite a few chapters
Alright, I can't be bothered to defend a story I didn't enjoy any more than this.

I will put it like this: try to read 150-200 chapters. If you can't read on, just drop it because it likely won't get more enjoyable. If you can, then good for you. This novel is something you can read to kill time at least. <<less

I have to ask the following question, did the author change towards the end of the novel? The author is dead so someone close to replace him? Because the story from when you come back to your Earth sucks. Seriously, the story, the world, the universe, all of that was passable, but it went from passable to catastrophic.

This novel had the potential if not for the fact that the author always forget some sh*t he introduce some chapters before which is apparantly noticeable at the later chapter:

This novel was put into hiatus by the author, should have stayed as it is.

If you skim some chapter you feel like you did miss anything but if you read those chapters now you'll see missing something.

Introduction of a greater world and merging of other world dimension is great but it is already to late and the execution is how DCEU... more>> will handle flashpoint story

Not as bad as you would think with how it's reviewed.

My observation is it's an okay read, but you can't hope the MC will think like you, he's doing his own thing so don't set yourself up, just watch. Don't guess what's next.

I remember when this novel was in its beginning stages and I got really happy every time a new chapter came out.

I really liked the concept of shadow hack.

But then stuff happens and he stops using shadow hack as much as he did before and it becomes an usual cultivation novel with a slightly unique power to help the MC.

Although I dropped it because I couldn't be bothered to wait for more chapters to see if it got better, I might continue reading it once some more chapters are done... more>> since it's been quite a while and I can't really remember much about it anymore.

I might or might not recommend it. <<less

Wow it has been a long time since I've written a review here. Plus with a new username. I've been mostly focusing on reading raws from jjwxc, but now I'm back to read through some novels on Qidian bc I kind of want to read some English and rest my brain from MTL for a bit.

Shadow Hack has been in my TBR list for quite a while just bc the dude seems to be OP and Qidian seems to love this story. I have ofc seen the horrible ratings on... more>> here and the horrible reviews, but since I often give a lot of leeway for accepting OPness, I decided to give it a try and write my own horrible review afterward.

And yeah, the OPness was totally fine for me. What wasn't fine was the MC's like zero IQ. Possibly negative IQ. Why is it that whenever LNs don't have a genius protagonist it has to have a literally s*upid protagonist? Can't we just have a normal protagonist who has common sense? The number of contradictions and plot holes and s*upid things that the MC did was absolutely mind-boggling. If in the beginning you decided to stack and focus on defense, pls do not 2 chapters later say ignore that all along I wanted to be an all-rounded warrior. Also any reasonable person would want to improve and learn about all possible functions of the system ASAP, literally this dude wasted so much time not hacking when he could have become even stronger. He's dropping crystals and resources into his world when it barely improves his defense when he could drastically improve it by cultivating. Literally you need all those crystals to cultivate! Then he keeps on trying to improve his weapons by going through literally probably the most dangerous place instead of safely trying to raise your frickin cultivation first in your safe area! What is this dude even doing. Also he's all like stay low key I don't want to be captured and then boom he kills strong people with backgrounds and shows off his skills and barely manages to keep his shadow avatars secret.

I actually do enjoy the premise and the OPness of the shadow hack, but this could have been so much better if the author had sat down with every arc and even had a skeleton of a plan on what he was going to have the MC do. Dropped. <<less

Story has potential and MC personality is likable, but I have some serious issues with the plot. MC is completely protected by the plot-armor! His luck is seriously overrated and the way he handle things he would have died a million times already if this was reality or the novel actual has some competent people with a decent IQ. MC keep saying he want low key but he literally does everything with his main body like it is no big deal just because he think he got stronger. If you... more>> are in for the action then maybe this is your cup of tea, but if you are for the plot then you should spare yourself the effort of reading it. Basically here you have a story that has a system that came out of nowhere and can solve all your problem if you just quietly train yourself, you might even have a good and relaxing life without any trouble, but instead like any typical hot blooded person the MC just keep getting into trouble. <<less

For now I shall rate it as 3 star as the story is still building and nothing much can be said. At most, I would say it's getting interesting like how a typical novel should be in the beginning stage. The translation by Qidian international as usual, would be describe as top-notch. I love their translations as it's flawless in my opinion.

Would review more once the chapters translated is more than 100.
