Xiao Xiang Zi, a cloud spirit in heaven, and Chu Kong mess up the red strings of fate by accident during their brawl.

As a consequence, they are sentenced to be a fated couple in the mortal realm for 7 lifetimes as a punishment for not getting along with each other.

I'm not a fan of romance but I LOVED this book. Although it's short, I became attached to the characters quickly and my attention was always held. It's a fun mix of comedy, romance, angst and adventure. 10/10 would reread and would recommend.

I loved this story. I think my favorite life time was the first one. Bittersweet, but it left the most emotional impact on me.

Spoiler

Partly the reason why I liked it because the main guy seemed to be more aware of his feelings after that life time. He definitely chased her first all due to her changing "fate" that the Heavens bestowed on her. She was suppose to "chase the husband" and was suppose to "die first", but due to her not wanting the Heavenly Emperor to control her fate, she changed her fate. Also, if you have to asked me who fell for who first, I think the main guy did first. But he was too stubborn to admit his feelings first and so she had to be the one to give in and make him admit it too. The scene where he finally admits his feelings is very adorable and spicy. XD He sure is tsundere and he's definitely not romantic, but his face can't hide his emotions when he's in love. The ending was adorable and I enjoyed the story better than I expected. I was expecting a lot of heart ache due to the "seven unfortunate lifetimes", so I knew what I was getting into.

I liked that the author put more dept into the characters emotions which brought out lots of emotions for the readers to sympathized for both main leads each lifetimes they had died or lived. Also for those that said the female lead is like a monkey, she's really not. I find her character to be interesting because she actually isn't a "docile" female lead that will follow the whims fate has laid on her. I didn't like the 2nd life story as much as the first because of how her brained worked that life time, but that wasn't her fault. The main guy fed her too much forgetfulness soup, so it resulted her to be a bit dumb that life time. Can't blame her for hating her "s*upid" version of herself that life time. The main girl does have a brain and knows how to use it, she also admits she's not smart in the love department but that doesn't make her dumb. She realizes her emotions and accepts them too later on in the story.
Although she uses her fist on the male lead, she does it for a reason. The main guy says some really hateful sh*t which makes me want to punch him sometimes too, but he learns and changes in a better way after meeting and spending time with her. His heart also softens and he learns to love because of her. Although he doesn't like admitting that he gets jealous when other men touch or talk to her, he accepts that he does love her eventually causing him to not want to part with her every time she dies. I also like that she's pretty straight forward and doesn't hide behind a bush about herself. She's not a fox in sheep clothing and will tell the main guy straight in his face what she really thinks. Also her questioning the guy right in front of his face asking him if he really likes her makes it even more amusing because she knows she's "thick-skinned" trying to get the main lead to admit he likes her. Although he doesn't sugarcoat it, he does eventually tells her in a funny way that makes me even flabbergasted the way he said it (which happens in a scene where it's done in a special way - the scene I said above about the "spicy" scene). Their relationship is a typical bickering couple, but with these trials you see that there's more too just a bickering couple. She's a sly cunning lady (also stubborn) and he's a stubborn man with a bad tongue, but together they make each other. They learn to love through these trials and with time they have bloomed into a cute couple that can't live without each other that was first formed by their hate for each other. I'm glad they got married in the end. Only sad thing I can say after this story ended was that I wanted to read more sweet moments between the two, but because the ending was satisfying I'm okay with it.
[collapse]

If you haven't read this story yet, go on ahead and dwell into a roller coaster of emotions! It's a story you won't regret reading and will love just as much as I did. <<less

This is a beautiful romance..A romance, that is literally a match made in heaven. First things first: The writing might seem amateurish, but that is because the story itself is pretty simple. The plot is paper thin, but this plot is perfect for a 50 something chapter series.

However, I warn you that there is NO misunderstanding between lovers kind of drama in this. It is the story of a couple who grow from fierce haters into a divine couple over a period of 7 lifetimes. It is a good read... more>> as it is short and simple.. Not so sweet though. The 7 lifetimes are inter related so it doesn't feel discontinuous at all. Recommended. <<less

Love, obstracle, romantic, misunderstood, sympathy, hate, misery, grief, sorrow, laughing, humor, suffering, dead, reincarnating, separating, rejoin, depart...

In just the short 54 chapters, the writer could put all these emotions in, and ended happily ever after.

What you expected more before start reading the 1st chapter?

I really like the characters, they're both so cute together. The girl is a tomboy and kind of dumb, but she doesn't really develop much. The guy on the other hand develops throughout the entire story, and he slowly becomes so much more.

I think this is more of a tragedy though--if not for the ending. The entire story is super uplifting on the long run, but the title really says it all: "Seven unfortunate lifetimes."

U-N-F-O-R-T-U-N-A-T-E

I thought it'd be more comedy of them fighting, but it gets sweeter and... more>> sweeter. It's 7 beautiful tragedy stories combined in order to make one happy ending at the end, with interludes in between that are absolutely hilarious.

The love they have slowly blossoms...I totally cried in my head a lot, but I knew there was another chapter after so they all stayed in my head! It was not disgustingly fluffy-it was the perfect amount. <<less

So sweet! The 7 lifetimes were so heartbreaking but also heartwarming...

I love how they developed their hate slowly to deep love... AHHHHHH the MC (female) is very interesting regarding personality! And the MC (male) doesn’t speak what he really thinks and is unexpectedly shy.

5 STARS THE STORY WAS AWESOME!

Review + Recommendations (at bottom).

This book is extremely satisfying. Read it multiple times; definitely one of my go-to books for a romance expresso-shot.

The key informations/details required for the sensical flow in the makings of a good story (plot & character development) are all present. E.g. How long they take to fall in love and when they do actually fall for each other, the timing is perfect and falling in love as a plot directional flow actually makes sense - not that logic comes into play with emotions, but like in... more>> terms of actually having proper reasons or factors that results in love.

Also the pace for this story is refreshingly "fast". There isn't a time where I decide to half-read and quickly scroll down because of slow development that tempts my boredom into place. Like everything is being string up smoothly one after another, yet you don't feel like you can't catch your breath.

Definitely worth a check out, unless romance genre isn't your cup of tea.

Another book that is so similar to this one, where both stories could possibly be in the same dimension or world, I would say Sansheng, Wangchun Wu Chang. Also, a very satisfying romance novel with another pair of lovers. I would say that the epilogue chapters for the Sansheng are more than this one. Thus, may be a little bit more fulfilling or enlightening to their readers, who would have grown to love the characters so much that they would wish to have a longer peek in the epilogue.

Other romance recommendations: I would say the following books have slower pacing and longer plot-line. But the pacing is suitable for how the author is trying to story-tell. That's why I would say that 7 lifetimes and sansheng are like romance expresso-shots while these I would probably call them romance mug (s) of coffee.

1. Reborn as my love rival's wife (Complete)

Has some PG13 scenes, but the overall feel is still a fluffy romance story because of the adorable, simple MC.

2. I refuse to be a supporting character (incomplete)

Touches some darker/negative feels e.g. When MC thinks about previous life, when MC deals with cannon-folders or when cannon-folders schemes.

3. The beloved imperial consort (incomplete)

Warning: Has smut. Overall feels is definitely not the usual light/fluffy, innocent romance. Like it deals with practicality of being in a harem. Though there are cute, fluffy moments, which readers look out for.

4. To be a Virtuous Wife (Complete)

Same feel like no.3, but no smut.

I may edit to add more to this list, depending if I feel the books are satisfying enough to be worth comparing to these + strong romance plot line. I feel that the other novels I read, though include romance, but is not a key plot development or just one of the key plot developments in the story. Like most of them, similar to number 3 & 4, deals with how the MC survives in their given environment/situation, but with subtler or slower romance plotline. Number 3 & 4 has stronger romance feels to make it on the list because of their MCs' given situation of being married right from the get-go or within the early phase of the novel. <<less

"I told you that you aren't allowed to sleep in the snow! You're not allowed to close your eyes in the snow!"

Damn right. Who dares sleep in the snow! Do you like snow? Me, I love snow.

Yep, this story is about snow... Not really. But the innocent snow somehow played a crucial role in this funny and hilarious story with a little touch of achy-breaky tone.

... more>> Sigh... my heart... Here, take my 5/5.

STORY:

Right. This story is not about snow. It's about a cloud and a star (surprise!).

With the given description, it looks like the story would be a funny one. But as for me, I've been putting this one off because of this. 'Fated couple in the mortal realm for 7 lifetimes'..? —With this alone, it was already a big "Hmm..." for me. Mentioning that the other party retains her own memory after reincarnation did not help either. I was like, "Oh boy, this is going to be messy". I was discouraged, but the curiosity (and boredom?) won over me. And to my surprise, the unpleasant concern I had prior reading this was completely melted away.

The narration in the MC's POV was extremely funny! I really love the humor. I find the main characters hilarious and a little annoying sometimes, because of their endless bickering. And what I really love about the story's construction is, after the author make you taste tears from laughing, she readily offers you a spoonful of tears caused by a shared heartache for the main characters. I don't know if the excellent English translation has in any way contributed to this tear-jerking vibe, but for someone like me who have already read some of her/his writings, yes, this is really her/his style. Do you know the novel Accompanying the Phoenix? Yep, I cried a river while reading that. But compared to that, this one is lighter. The plot is not too complicated.

The story's pacing is just right, I think. To be honest, while reading this, I just let myself be drifted away because I didn't really know what to expect. The description is very stingy. You know, I'm solved just by knowing it's going to be a happy ending in the end.

Nothing much to criticize here, really. Just read it and be the judge *wink*.

CHARACTERS:

Ah, the characters. Since this story feels like a little short, aside from the main characters, no other characters from the mortal realm, where they spent their 'lifetimes', was remarkable for me. But from the Underworld and Heaven realm, I have lots. I just love the gambling high officials, lol.

The FL, Xiang Zi, is your wild girl. Really wild and free, simply won't back down in the battle of exchanging harsh words with ML. Nothing much negative to say about her, but I really wish her powers is a little more powerful, not just her power mouth. But I truly admire her courage and fearlessness. And she's smart too.

And the ML, Chu Kong, is the same. He nags a lot, and a big, big tsundere. But oh boy, I love him to the core! His personality and actions moved me very much. A true blue tsun. He's capable of hailing the super ninja-cutting-onions. Despite his uncontrollable mouth, he's a real 'Prince Charming' for me. What a guy.. *sigh*

Even though the interaction of the two most of the time includes quarrel over petty things, but as the story progresses, you will see how great their tandem is, especially when solving mysteries. But how did they end up together? Well, ask the tsun who hated the snow~

OVERALL:

Overall, this is an enjoyable read. Kind of a light one, funny, and heart-warming. The latter part of the story made me "What the f*ck!" a little because I didn't know what the hell was happening, and it made me worry a bit. Thus, I jumped chapters! (lol). But I backtracked after confirming that the field is clear (hehe). What a cruel author. How dare you play with my heart...

Worth reading? Definitely! I highly recommend this. <<less

I haven't enjoyed a couple like this in a long time, and it's mainly because, individually, the male and female leads are both frankly annoying, hot-headed, selfish, and emotional cowards with communication issues. And yet together they are perfect. They might argue all the time, but it was obvious how devoted they were to each other. I was sad we didn't see more of their happy-ever-after.

The plot is a little weak, but the relationship between Chu Kong and Xiao Xiang Zi more than makes up for it. Their interactions are... more>> at times ridiculous, at times laugh out loud funny, and once in a while so touching I was moved to tears.

Also features probably the funniest depiction of the underworld (and the heavenly emperor) that I've seen so far. <<less

This was a good one, everything was fine: the romance between the main characters, their developments in the story, but I think some things the author rushed to end up. A great start but a rushed ending.

Personally the best of this story was Chu Kong. I love him and his seven past lives.

I really, really miss this nivel so much! I'm currently finding a novel like this but I can't find anything good as this novel!

This story has a hilarious set up and even in the darkest lives they live, it's still pretty funny. I will say the general characterization, world building and pacing are all weak. However, the imagination of this author and what they created is wonderful. I reread this whenever I want a sweet laugh wrapped up in an epic odd couple adventure.

I stumbled across this novel a couple times when I was searching for something to read, and for some reason, I always overlooked it, but I happened to read another story by the same author, and it was sooo good that I decided to give this one a try. And now I can tell for sure, this author is really good. Even tho bickering couple isn't really my thing, I could really enjoy MC and ML together. And unlike other reviewers here, I really liked the MC. Some may think... more>> that she's too impulsive, but man, if a stranger talked to me the way the tsundere ML talked to her before, I would also be pissed. So I could empathize with her, and later, even the tsundere ML grew on me (I'm inclined to the pampering kind). I guess this is the power of a writter that knows how to create good characters.

I recommend if:

 1. You like when the Romance is the focus of the story
 2. You like tsundere males.
 3. You like fated romance with bittersweet moments
 4. You don't mind bickering couples. (It happens almost every chapter)
 5. You like lively, honest and simple Female protagonists. (The main couple is given almost the same amount of time in the plot, but we read thru the view of the female)
 6. You like slow romance (kinda, not too slow)
 7. You're tired of characters without much personality that feels exactly like 100 others that you've read.
I don't Recommend if :

1. You want a quick romance

2. You like complicated plots with a lot of intrigue and such

3. You like OP characters or physically Strong Female protagonists.

4. You're expecting this big tragedy novel (this isn't it. The novel has some sad moments, but mainly, fluff, comedy and they growing as a couple)

5. You care a lot about world building (For me this wasn't a issue, since they (the protagonists) are always going too the neverworld or the earth, we don't get to see much of any of those, but, the main point is the relationship so for the plot the world building wasn't that relevant and I didn't feel that I hadn't enought

context)

This author has already won my heart, I will for sure keep an eye for his/her storys. He/she Knows how to create insteresting characters, cute yet real. Also the plots always ties together and nothing too nonsense happening, the ones i've read were xianxia novels, yet despite being a fantasy it stuck within its limits and was very mature compared with other novels.

Never felt boring reading, not even a bit, never felt like taking a pause or reading something else, even tho I'm reading this dor 2 days in a row. <<less

Love this novel! It made me laugh one second and feel the sadness of the moment the next. It's pretty short and the chapters aren't long, plus it's super addicting! I finished it in one night! The story isn't too complex, but I think Jiu Lu Fei Xiang still writes in some nice nuances and raises some good questions. When you reincarnate are you still the immortal you, or are you a completely different person as a mortal? If you fall in love with a specific reincarnation of a person,... more>> does that mean you love the immortal them (even when they have a different personality?)

As expected, the characters are all lovable! Our MC Xiao Xiang Zi was super cute with a whole lot of personality and humor! Reading things through her POV was so fun and made the novel as a whole lighter. Although I do wish she had more powers so Chu Kong wasn't always saving her at the end I do like how she wasn't afraid to physically fight him and wasn't a wallflower. She does grow and develop as the story progresses, especially during the 7th lifetime.

Chu Kong was an awesome ML, with a great growth arc! Gotta love tsunderes who get all shy, and it's always great to see male leads who don't feel like they have to be all macho guy power around everyone. He and Xiao Xiang Zi had great chemistry throughout, and reading their journey of falling in love was amazing :').

Overall imo the first two lifetimes were the strongest, especially the first lifetime (Maybe that's just because I love Lu Hai Kong so much XD). The ending does feel a little rushed, but that doesn't take away from the wonderful story! Also Yanwang was super cute and deserves some more entertainment down there! Thank you Jiu Lu Fei Xiang for another amazing novel (it is similar in some aspects with Sansheng, Wangchuan Wu Shang) ! Thank you volarenovels for the awesome translation! Wouldn't have been able to read it without you! ≪3 <<less

This was so cute!! I mean it wasn't all fluff but because of the comedy and the style the author wrote it made all the angst bearable. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to deal with all the deaths.

MC was funny but ML was the best! He did have a unique personality. Not a serious Alpha male but an arrogant guy whom you want to hit first but after seeing his cute side you can't help but love him. The side characters were really funny too. Those gods were just... more>> too nosey and having fun in MC and ML's misery. Lol

Also, the thing I really liked was that there were no second male/female leads. I wouldn't have been in the whole "them liking someone else while not having their memories" drama. So I'm really glad we didn't get that. No matter how many life times, how much sadness, they only felt for eachother. ❤ Definitely recommended!

Thank you Author and Translator for your hard work! ❤ <<less

The emotions I felt while reading this really took me for a ride. I laughed like silly at times, cried like crazy at times, and my heart full the other times. This is definitely something I'd love to read over and over again. It was very entertaining and I simply couldn't stop once I started, only a few works has made me feel like that, ones I finished in just one sitting.

Overall this is something a lot of suckers for romance would definitely like. The leads are just adorable, very... more>> easy to love and some of their interactions are totally hilarious for me and some are totally emotional it actually made me tear up.

At first I felt weird reading because this was written on first person POV (our FL, Xiao Xiang Zi) I was so used to only reading in 3rd person maybe thats why. But it eventually it didn't matter because it was written well, it wasn't weird or awkwardly written so it was cool.

Anyways this was a treasure find for me. I didn't expect much from 54 chapters but it was totally worth it. It paid so much in return. You should definitely check it out. <<less

What a lovely read this was!

Each lifetime had a purpose for the story, and it's not all about silly heart plots either.

The ML, wasn't stereotypical (although he is one of those "I'm much stronger than the FL" types), he accepts his own feelings remarkably fast, and while he's terrible at expressing them with words, his actions are rather loud and it's cute. His hate of snow is what first made me fall for him as ML completely.

The FL holds her own and though she sometimes seems to be part of... more>> the "dense" class of heroines, I don't think she really is. She's not s*upid about herself, she knows her own mind, she's just a bit unaware of her surroundings and hasn't got much life experience to fall back on, something that is highlighted by the ML much broader wealth of knowledge. But she's a quick study and not the type to be dependent on the man at all (although she dreams of a life of doing nothing but spending her husbands money), and the last lifetime has her show remarkable progress.

Yangwang is a favorite character of mine, that's because he's part of the peanut gallery, so very relatable for any reader. He speaks to our heart XD

Zihui is the sweetest heartbreak I have ever felt, that man was a sweetheart all along, and he deserves all the happiness in the world.

Highly recommended, it's a shortish and well written/translated story, I smiled, shook my head and roll my eyes, maybe shed a few tears and at the end I thought "I wouldn't mind reading some more, but this is just right." <<less

I loved this story so much. The feelings of the characters were so palpable, and you could truly empathize with the characters whenever a particular scenario occurred even though you knew it was gonna happen. And the angst man, the angst. If you're a fan of angst like me, boy is this the story for you.

I really liked the straightforward nature of the main character despite how much trouble it could get her into (but hey plot development). The main lead was tsundere af and what can I say, I'm... more>> a big fan lmao I like what I like. However, they each had their own strengths (either physical or through a witty tongue), and you could see how each reincarnation would affect their personalities and allow them to grow in their own ways. The main lead went from an arrogant, immature boy to a thoughtful, capable man and the main character from a stubborn, petty, and inconsiderate girl into a woman that could understand the feelings of others and the value of a human life.
Spoiler

ugh and the way he had to chase after her each time until the last time when she chased after him but then she understood she couldn't control him and left the final decision up to him ugh my heart I can't take it character development ugh romance argh everything I wanted how could you end this story any better cries in end of story happiness

[collapse]
Each reincarnation was as good as the last and served a particular purpose. No fillers thank god. I also appreciated how the novel explored different kinds of reincarnations from animal reincarnation to even gender swapping. I was also a fan of how the worlds of heaven, earth, and the netherland were integrated believably. Really recommended if you're into romance. <<less

What a great story. Many didn't like the female lead, but I did. Her maturity was later than the male lead's, but nonetheless, she did grow more as a person. She also put her trust and love in the male lead to the test which allowed both to have a HE.

I cried a little tbh because there's some tragedy in this, but was satisfied with the ending and the extra stories.

Who knows, I might just reread this when I need something to make me cry and lift my mood.
