Lin Momo hasn’t had a father or a mother since she was very young and lives with the grandmother who picked her up after being thrown away. One day, a person claiming to be an agent approached her and asked her to pretend to be the daughter of a certain star and participate in the recording of a reality show, and she would be given 20,000 yuan after the filming was completed.

Looking at her poor family, Lin Momo thought for 2 seconds and agreed.

This reality show is called ‘Living with Dad’. Dad takes the baby and randomly draws a family background to experience a different life every week.

The night before the recording of the program, Lin Momo had a dream that after the program was broadcast, only the team of the former singer—Lin Cheng—had bad reviews: the daughter is not cute; the father has no fatherly love; and the father and daughter have no communication at all during the whole process.

The audience pointed out: ‘He doesn’t know how to take care of a baby at all’; ‘It’s really embarrassing’; ‘There is no sense of presence’, ‘I hate this pair the most’; ‘It’s not good-looking at all, I suggest you go offline’ and so on…

Later, more black material popped up, Lin Cheng’s career and reputation collapsed completely, and Lin Momo’s 20,000 yuan was also lost. She was forcibly sent to an orphanage with the ‘help’ of Internet celebrities and caring people.

In order to keep her 20,000 yuan, Lin Momo was determined to perform well.

However, the father-daughter combination of Lin Momo and Lin Cheng still became the contrast team and the audience reaction is palpably different:

Other teams: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so cute!
Contrast team: Hey, my daughter is so sensible.

Other teams: It’s great to be a star.
Contrast team: The life of outdated stars is so miserable.

Other teams: This is a parent-child interactive program.
Contrast team: This turned out to be a survival show?!

Other teams: Dad, come on, raise your children.
Contrast team who drew the [Unemployed Families] card: Daughter, come on and support Dad!

Lin Momo: “I have to work hard to make money, otherwise my father will starve to death.”

Lin Cheng: “I have to work hard to make money, otherwise I will have to take my daughter back to inherit tens of billions of property.”

——————

Lin Cheng, who hasn’t ‘appeared’ for half a year, received a call from his agent and was given a contract.

Lin Cheng: “Appearance fee?”

Agent: “None.” The appearance fee is 100,000 yuan, but the backer was invited to dinner for 300,000 yuan, so the remainder is negative.

Lin Cheng: “Script?”

Manager: “None.” The program team didn’t have time to write one.

Lin Cheng: “Draw lots?”

Agent: “Still no.” As the contrast team, there is no right to choose the family background.

Lin Cheng: “Is there a child?”

Manager: “Yes.”

Looking at the ‘fake’ child who looked too much like him, Lin Cheng had a weird feeling.

Heartwarming and cute father and daughter relationship. Definitely recommend to those who like wholesome stories without too much drama. Although I was a bit disappointed at the dad's behaviour in the beginning I enjoyed seeing his character growth. For me it was more mindless fluff and the plot wasn't complicated so it was relaxing to read.

thanks to the translator for translating!

Spoiler

my one caveat would be that at the end of the novel, it kind of became filled with more technical info than relationship scenes. Ex running the farm hotel and the tofu store. To me it was a bit of a drag to read through cuz it was just infodumping but I still enjoyed the story.

[collapse]

The other drawback for me, tho not a big enough flaw to make me drop the story.

Spoiler

the characters are unrealistic LOLOL but I wasn't expecting realism in the first place. But the characters felt so perfect it was a little eerie haha. But the whole point of the story was to spoil Lin momo so the author definitely achieved that.

this story is absolutely beautiful~!

Spoiler

we get to see how LC changes and grows as a father and how LM comes out of her shell!! It's a fun story with face-slapping, drama, fluff, and more fluff!! Although there are parts that felt dragged to me I think it's due to MTL! Otherwise, it's a gem of a story!

i absolutely loved how LM in spite of being a kid tries and succeeds in changing the 'trajectory' of their lives.

it was fun to feel like the audience in the live broadcast and the feeling of raising a kid engulfed me with happiness. Albeit this feeling also left me feeling extremely sentimental in some parts. But it was so beautiful, I can not express it in mere words.

hats off to the author for writing such a masterpiece!! Thanking the TLS for letting me discover this gem!

if you love heartwarming fluff, with hardworking and lovable characters do give this a shot. This is not just a pastime, it will turn into something you will adore for its simple yet heartwarming storyline!!!

10/10 once again!

This novel is about a child protagonist Lin Momo and her father. Her father is a singer that is not popular anymore. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Momo was thrown away by her biological mother and she was found by a kind grandmother. At 9 years of age, she's found by an entertainment company representative to join this show about fathers and kids. That's where she meets Lin Cheng.

It's a novel that focuses on the livestreaming aspect with fan commentary. I would say slice-of-life but it has a lot of... more>> elements of the entertainment industry involved. The entire novel is occuring in a span of ~few months. In it, Momo and her father's relationship gets stronger as they partake in the show challenges together.

Momo is a cute 9 year old kid that has low self-esteem initially due to her previous background. She's often afraid of being abandoned, so she will do her best to be a good child so that Lin Cheng doesn't abandon her.

Lin Cheng himself, used to be a cranky bad tempered guy, who after living with Momo and being charmed by her, slowly changes to be a reliable father. This story focuses on their relationship.

Pros:

  • The weekly challenges by the Father and Baby show is very interesting and it's fun to see how Momo and her father solves the problems that pop up.
  • Heartwarming scenes with Momo and her new family are plenty.
  • Momo is a cute kid and it's not boring when reading about her antics.
Cons:

  • Why does Momo even have dreams about a supposed bad future? So Momo has a nightmare about how the show failed, her father is framed and she is sent to an orphanage and suffers. Momo is frightened by these "visions" and she wants to make sure it doesn't happen that way. BUT! I don't see her doing things any differently? Like, author doesn't mention anything about Momo doing anything extraordinary that changes her life trajectory. Why did the "bad future" occur in the first place? If Momo had acted the exact same way? I don't understand this part. Momo doesn't do anything differently. So why did things change this time?
  • Lin Cheng is... quite boring imo. He is a reliable father. His love language is definitely acts of service. He does his best to make Momo happy. He actually does his best for the show. But his personality is just: quiet stoic man with good business acumen. He'll be the type of dad, who is quiet, cuts fruits up for child, and then doesn't say much. I do wonder what he did this lifetime that changed things for the both of them too. He found out about Momo's real parentage earlier on and is able to counterattack the antagonists better. But why? How? I don't think author elaborated on this well.
Basically a nice quick read. <<less

To be honest, I was only here to pass the time because I recently finished my stock in my library. But when I read this piece, I found that I suddenly want to read the whole thing, persisted reading throughout the night (there's no classes the day after anyway), and finally finished this super heartwarming piece. I love it! It's so realistic, although there are some fantasy elements such as the dreams the kid got or just how rich their family is (maybe I'm just limited by poverty?). But all... more>> in all, it was a piece worth reading.

Finally, got a father who's useful and don't need to be dragged around by the baby!

Can someone tell me how to edit the ratings? I was supposed to give it a four star, I promise! It's a slip of a finger! <<less

There is a lot to love in this story, but there's also so much heartache. The poor child has gone through so much, and then has to bear the weight of her "Bad Ending" nightmares.

I will say, I love the "premonition" setting. I find it way better for this kind of childcare novel than a regression. Rather than an adult in a child's body, it's a child feeling the responsibility of an adult.

Spoiler

She believes that her nightmares will come true if she doesn't do a good enough job on the show, but she's not a professional entertainer. She's literally a child. All she can do is give 110% effort to everything she does.

Cute bun and dad story. Cute enough for 5 stars if I didn't have a pretty peeve against the strong sentiment many of these have about the Magical Powers Of Blood TM! The mysterious attraction between blood relatives, as though blood relatives haven't had a long history of being just as, if not more, bloody than any other relationships.

Liked this story enough to MTL it. Cute and rather slow-paced. I enjoyed the character depth in the father. Kinda wish there was a bit more growth in Momo, but wasn't really expecting it. Some face-slapping and rich family drama, which is typical of this sort of story. All-in-all, nice.

Loose-end that frustrated me: ... more>>

We never really know why or how Momo was able to dream the future.

Still don't really like Grandpa, even though he's cute. A part of me wanted more groveling or a clearer distance from the scum portions of the family. <<less
