Excellent novel. You can ignore the naysayers as they were just expecting this to be something it is not.

The main character is not meant to be likable but despite that you want to know more. He is an arrogant and cruel bastard but he is not completely heartless. If you want a typical dumb, heroic or skirt chasing protagonist you will not find that here. While the story does certainly have flaws it is interesting and absolutely hilarious at times due to all the quips and one liners. You never... more>> know what ridiculousness will be spoken next. <<less

This is not a 4-5 star novel, quite simply. We are 150 chapters in, for a supposedly 200 chapter novel, and the plot has barely progressed.

Character development? None. The author has used the excuse that the main character was brain damaged in his previous world, so it is hard for his personality to develop, yet it talks about him "changing" a number of times despite him acting the same way as usual the whole way through the novel.

There are no significant side characters.

Enemies? Supposedly, he hasn't even gotten past all... more>> the bottom feeder bosses yet. I cannot even imagine how much content skipping the author is going to be doing to suddenly arrive at confronting the last boss in just the last 50 chapters.

But, at least the action is decent, even if it feels a bit like a never ending Chinese novel at this point where the story is barely progressing despite one fight after another occurring with not much build up. So it is still interesting enough to get a 3, but, this story is simply filler level.

Edit after reading ending: So yea, the ending (lol), as expected, it was extremely rushed, one of the worst endings I have ever read. This edged down to 2.5 stars for me after seeing just how badly the author screwed up finale. <<less

So I was told about this story about a month or two ago and at first, I was skeptical. However, two days ago I was looking for something new to read and decided why not try a few chapters out. Needless to say two days later I am caught up and I am looking forward to each and every new chapter.

I am not going to say this story is perfect since most light novels I read have one or two flaws at least either plot holes or poor character development... more>> ext. However, in my humble opinion, this is one of the best stories I have read since I started reading LN's.

What I love about this story is the MC he is op yes but not to the point where the story is uninteresting. On top of being op he has other good attributes I like though in the story those attributes may make him seem heartless. One attribute is the eye for an eye he does not care who you are a man, woman, nobody or even world leader if you try to stab him in the back then your life is forfeit.

Another, trait that the MC has that people might not like but I think is great is he does not try to be a hero which sometimes can make him look like a villain. Such as he might go save someone he cares and gets them to safety yet he won't just go out of his way to bring all the others he saved to safety. (I know that might sound confusing but if you read the story it will make sense.)

What also makes this story good is the bad guys in the story, a lot of the stories I read are Xianxia and a lot of the times the trouble with those stories are the bad guys. What I mean is, for example, MC has a hot girl with him, MC walks into the city with a hot girl. The arrogant bad guy likes hot girl tries to take the girl and fights MC, next day another arrogant bad guy fights MC over a girl because the first bad guy wanted revenge. This sometimes repeats its self over and over in a lot of Xianxia novels which bugs me. However, in this story which I assume is not considered Xianxia though I may be wrong anyways the bad guys are not so one sided and the fights between them have more meaning and differ between bad guys at least for now that is.

Spoiler

MAJOR SPOILERS: Okay so here is the story in a nutshell so far so read at your own discretion. Woojin the MC was transported to another world in that world he had to survive on his own. He became a powerful necromancer that was feared and revered in that world. In that world a great evil was infesting the world and trying to take over yet the MC only ever cared to fight the evil when they encroached on his domain. After living in that world for 20 years he was able to find away to return home to his family and friends, once he arrives back on earth he finds that only 5 years have passed. Though he has lost his magic he still is stronger than an average human by a lot, he decides to go to where he use to live to find his family yet when he went to the train station Woojin finds out that the world has changed. This change is that now all the subway tunnels are dungeons on earth, and with this discovery Woojin gains some power back yet he has to re-level himself. The leveling in the world is like how it would be in a game and so after finding his mom and sis Woojin decides to challenge the dungeons to earn money and grow stronger again. Because he finds out that these dungeons are connected to the evil being who was taking over the other world. Many things happen after that such as finding a women he cares for, creating his own guild that turns into a kingdom and learning that the evil guy has taken over many worlds in that the taking of worlds is a part of a galactic game where domain lords battle to be one of the lords of a throne. That is all just the main gist of the story if you want to know more, of course, read the story. Hope you enjoy.

A very interesting novel with a very refreshing protagonist. The setting is similar to "Everyone else is a returnee" with dungeons appearing in the world. The protagonist can be described as an anti-hero. He does what he wants and does not have a care in the world, but he is not evil. Years of hardship in another planet has made him adapt. He would repay anything with interest, whether its kindness or enmity. He treats his allies and family with care, and shows no mercy to his enemies. It is... more>> refreshing to see a protagonist not bound by rules and authority and has the power to back up his actions. Highly recommended if you would like to read a story with a badass MC. <<less

Clearly a few reviewer are displeased on his personality, his arrogant, selfish, and a outright a**hole. Well that pretty much sum up his personality however it makes for good laughable moments. He once lived as a man who defied all exceed all expectation. Common sense does not applied to him, and his not too arrogant like people are making him sound. In all honesty, it's more like if he needs something, then he'll get it. He doesn't take people stuff for fun or for greed, but just a few stuff... more>> which he needs. Basically if you don't touch him then he won't touch you however it's just that he might need a few stuff. <<less

This is a decent read but for me not awesome. If you are looking for a story which shows some character development, this is not the book for you. But if you look for some smart, nice MC and minimal adventure. This book is for you.

The writing wasn't bad. MC was nice and all, the plotline was great, interesting. The more you read the more you like the settings of the novel. But that is all it.

MC has a few screws off his head, well given that if... more>> you live in another world for 20 years. But the character development in the story.... Yes, it's almost none. There aren't much about the character in the story apart of going to conquer dungeons and politics. Along with the realistic reactions and behavior the character doesn't develop much.

There aren't much adventure elements in the story too. Not to say there is none but it's like a breeze, lightly describing what MC had encountered, not the heavy description type which brings thrills.

Overall enjoyable. A fine read if this genre is up your alley. <<less

Early chapters might seem like it's an okay read but also with lots of tropes, however, it has so far exceeded my expectations for it, after chapter 13 or so, the story is advancing at a good pace and is a very fun read.

The MC is abit annoying though, and you might not really like him. He seems like a shameless person who picks on gawky teenager, but all in all he is actually a decent person, it's really up to you whether you are able to handle him or... more>> not.

For now I'll leave it at here and wait for the plot to unveil first. <<less

This novel is annoying. There are certain aspects that are really enjoyable and make me wholeheartedly recommend this novel. There are other aspects that are infuriating. Most of the characters are likable. For the first 180 chapters the story is great to serviceable. The MC's powers are pretty interesting; more so early on when they're more grounded and less OP. It's a different enough story that I'd recommend giving it a shot to see if you'd like it.

Now onto the problems. One thing that irritated me is that the MC's... more>> power back on the first planet is continuously retconned to be stronger every time they flashback or reference something that happened there. In the first couple chapters he mentions how he was just a decently strong, high level individual who was able to have a small country under his control because it was so covered in corpses and death energy that no one wanted it, and he was the only living being living there. By the midpoint of the story,
Spoiler

that's changed to he was as strong as, and viewed as an equal to, the literal gods of that world. He was able to take/kill whatever and whoever he wanted, and people left him alone because he (mostly) only attacked others as retaliation for them invading his land. And when he did retaliate, he was strong enough to single-handedly destroy any country that went against him.

[collapse]
That's just far less interesting, because suddenly you question why he didn't just destroy the antagonists the first go around and any suspense is thrown out the window since he's only going to be stronger this go around.

The other biggest issue is the story/ending. There were some extremely vague hints from
Spoiler

one of the gods of the other world he just happened to run into

[collapse]

tl;dr, give it a shot. If you like it and decide to read it, once you reach chapter 184 and things start to be wrapped up and explained, just close the story and come up with your own ending. It'll be more satisfying and even if you do read the ending, you'll just be confused anyways. <<less

A nice and short read that keeps you entertained.

It suffers of the usual problems of gaming elements novels, wherein the gaming elements become more and more vague the more you near the end.

The ending part to me was not very nicely written, it feels rushed and honestly the explanation on what it's all about it's a bit of a stretch.

The epilogue is the worst part, introducing relationships and other developments after an year from the end that really weren't needed and just feel out of place.

I avoided reading this novel since the reviews pointed in one direction. I avoided reading the manhwa becuase of the novel it was based on. I ended up reading the manhwa out of boredom. Looked cool, its a manhwa, they almost always, look cool. I wanted to read the novel therefore. Get ahead of the manhwa, not worry about waiting for the manhwa anymore. Its bad. It got more and more difficult to read the novel with my full-fledged focus. It's cringy stuff. Some middle school fanfiction stuff.

Great story. This one was a page turner. While it took me a few months to finally finish the last novel (looking at you, praise the orc), it took me about 4 days of power reading to finish this one. I wanted to see what happens next, each time!

The story started out like a typical isekai another world power leveler, but since the beginning, it hinted on a much larger picture. The author is trying to explain isekai in a way that makes sense, which is a bit refreshing. The... more>> characters are well written. MC could be said to be somewhere between chaotic neutral, and chaotic evil. As a mature character with his development already ended, the character development focuses on the supporting characters, how they develop and mature alongside the main character - given the very... particular nature of the MC.

One of the reviewers mentioned disappointing sudden reveal - which I disagree. The author has dropped hints to the end story since page 1.
There are only 2 cautions i'd say about this novel.

1. The ending did not have the 10 epilogues we have now all gotten used to. And, while it did tidy up and finish the story nicely, and did not leave on a STORY cliffhanger, it did leave on some sort of emotional hanger on for some readers.

2. If you are looking for an MC who is nice to the point of fault, this one is not it. If you are looking for an MC who will finally grew up and learn to be nice and kind, this is not it either. As I said, the MC is chaotic neutral-evil. Does that mean he is un-likeable? NO. I love the MC. His matter of fact handling, and the incredulous reaction from his supporting character trying to tidy up his messes is funny.
Think of hiring Deadpool (chaotic neutral) to save a hostage successfully, only to find out that the mission was successful, but he destroyed half the building to do so.

Another reviewer mentioned that MC is incompetent - but I also disagree with this. MC is what i'd call as smart Boss. He understands his business, and his business only. He surrounds himself with smart people who knows how to make things happen. Mind you, he is not what I'd call a smart Leader. A smart Leader works with his people. A Boss orders his people around. Again, this is in line with the MC being chaotic neutral-evil.

My only regret is that it looks like this is the only story the author wrote. I would have loved to read another one.

Spoiler

MC's character is the result of being a highschool student who was summoned to another planet, and had to survive by any means possible, for 20 years. In a planet where power is king, he grew to be a King. This meant, in order to survive, he was one of the worst character in the other planet, all in order to be able to go back home to see his family.
Well, imagine when such a character manages to get back home. While his education is lacking, his character, his solutions and goals is more in line with one who had been a King. Funny and tense situations are created when his supporting characters, who don't know his background, have to clean up after him.

Moreover, as a necromancer, the MC has the capability to see the purity of a person's soul. This has a big impact on the story writing, and MC's treatment of other people. Yes, MC is crash, and callous, and a jerk. Why wouldn't he, when he can see the other person's inner evil? Some reviewer complained about how a young girl with pure soul turned out to be a terrorist - and how MC did not see it coming. LOL. NO, the young girl is not a terrorist, she is simply used by a terrorist. She did not know she was strapped with a bomb.

Following is quite a big story spoiler:

Spoiler

This is reminiscence of the Matrix, and sword art online. Reviewers who are surprised did not read closely. Seriously, in the first pages of the book, the one granting him his return is a dimensional administrator. The big enemy is TrahNET. They are all looking for a Code. The author left so many hints about the reality of this universe that the big reveal was not about what, it was when. The only disappointment is that I think it could have been explained even further. When one meshes VR and Non VR world, there is no way it doesn't go into high fantasy scifi territory. If you are technologically inclined, at the end, you'll prob wonder about one or two things. Like, what, where is the backup system, why is there only one copy of it?

Besides the ending, which is strange, and feel extremely rushed, the story is great. MC is consisted with his character, but we can also see character development. He isn't bland MC that have no change whatsoever. Everything have place in this story. If something or someone is mentioned, you can be sure, that they will play some role in changing the story. Plot twist is unexpected. It isn't anything revolutionary, I saw similar stories before, but I still had this "Ah ha!" moment, when everything cl**ked in place. Ending breaks... more>> this. The last chapter looks like it was written after a year from the previous one, and the author forgot few parts of the story. Great story, there are some pretty funny parts and I like his power progression.

There are, however two problems for me. 1) The MC can be a total as*hole for no reason and sometimes get people killed when not necessary. 2) This is the one and only novek in Wuxiaworld that I have read with such a "f*ck YOU PAY ME" reading system, where you can read unlimited up to chapter 20 and then read 3 chapters a day by using regular points and paying for further chapters. Its been a while since a read a good LN. This time the MC is more of an anti-hero. So if you don't like anti-hero stuff and grey morality you may not enjoy this completely.

I am going to address some of the critique I have read here:

First people need to understand the context of the situations and the culture in Korea.

"no better than a villain" ... more>>
Spoiler

well yes, of course he was according to the past 20 years history of MC but the story is him given a second chance to redeem himself and not kill people just because it was an easy path for him

[collapse]

"the personalities of governments are distorted so as to let the MC get his way" :/ It clearly presents the spectrum of politicians with the no so bad ones and the rotten ones that wanted to go against MC. And the most important detail the the reviewer missed is
Spoiler

that MC was King for about 20 years and is still a King, just that the new people or government does not know it yet. He has the power to enforce his will and the urgency to bypass politics bureaucracy.

[collapse]

"MC assaults someone important on live TV and yet he is not taken to prison for assault." The story clearly presents the government bureaucracy and conflict of interest and later how there is so much political pressure that the thing gets drop. Pretty much like in real live.

"enemies and no retaliation?" it seems the reviewer was not paying attention again as this is attempted. It just that they are under protection after things get really heated.

Spoiler

"How MC distinguish the terrorist" Well, 1 he has a power that can torture souls, 2 he can make some undead confess and 3. He can see peoples souls to identify who is guilty and rotten. Does that mean he killed only terrorists? No, but at least no innocents were killed. This is one of the moments were MC shows old behaviors, presenting the internal conflict of trying to do things the right way or his old way.

It's good. but at the same time.. well anyway, There are some obvious flaws in this novel, The beginning was a bit rushed, and as it resembles solo leveling a bit, however, it really has a different premise and I'm pretty sure it came out before solo leveling, their both about a necro sure, But tbh, its really different, one is a restarting from zero type thing, while the other one is zero to hero, Overall, this is a story about the monarch of alandal, Who returns to earth. it's... more>> not a harem, which is good, and tbh as the story progresses, I can see its unique plot. I think the entire thing was a bit rushed, but that's just me, Solo leveling was the same (especially near the end). Too much condesntion but its good they ddin't drag. Now from this point forward, its alllllllll spoilers
Spoiler

For one, the twist with vr was surprising but it made sense, the system, which unlike in most novels, had no real source, or a clearly defined one, made sense with that, so did some things that just seemed random, codes for example. It was nice to see this one take this specific route, and honestly, I wasn;t overally happy, but not too sad either, I hated how the ending went, Wish it at least had side stores!, Butterfly effect with tupper was nice as well, the ending was atrupt but I enjoyed the novel as a whole so that's why I gave it that name. There weren't any huge plot holes, a little suspension of disbelief but hey, its fantasy, I liked how the ending wasn't all the typical, imma a god now shiz, tho the scifi elemtn was.... meh,

First impressions... if you've read Solo Levelling then you probably don't need t bother with this.

(Going to use SL as a referance point throughout because a) lots of people know it and b) it's just so goddamn similar so far)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is a rip-off - I can't remember, but I think this is older than SL - however although the apparent premise indicates that the stories should be different... look, one of these stories lifted these plot events from the other, heck,... more>> maybe there's even a third party behind all this, but either way MC is just starting out his dungeon OPness, and to test his skills
Spoiler

enters a slightly tougher dungeon with a pre-existing team, who then abandon him and one other poor sod and try to PK them on their way out after - at which point MC massacres the humans, after owning the dungeon, and the aforementioned poor sod becomes MC's new scared-shitless simp-dongsaeng, aka MC's private secretary and manservant.

[collapse]
Maybe that's only a couple of things, but it feels like a lot considering I'm not 30 chapters in yet. So far that's two rulers of death (to be) who are utterly badass and untouchable on their own, with a simpy servant sidekick they acquired in the same circumstances. Did I mention they're doing this to earn money for their mother and little sister they have to take care of after cataclysmic events robbed the family of their father?

Obviously I can't say right now how much or little the plotline varies from hereon out, and I know SL isn't for everyone either - but if you don't like SL, don't bother with this, if you've already read it, then this will probably read as repetitive, and if you haven't read either... SL is probably the better option of the two. Although that's just my opinion. Although I'm probably biased, I say that because there's actually room for development in SL, no matter how poorly you think it's executed, considering MC starts off as the underdog of all underdogs, while in SSN the MC is like the MC of SL at the beginning of the bad end of SL. Try saying that five times fast. Naturally SSN could go from sociopathic to non-sociopathic, but as that would go against the image of super tough ironclad manly manliness the author is trying to build I can't really see that being a probability. If you think I'm exaggerating, just know simp-dongsaeng has a starstuck moment when the dong pops out, and it's not gay, it's just that he's awed by the manly manliness of the manly man. We haven't even met the cute girl yet. How much you want to bet there's a shredded shirt scene up ahead?

I specify cute, because we have met the girl who had and obviously naturally of course still has a crush on him, who is labelled as a skank, acts like a skank, and is treated like a skank, by everyone from MC to her own mother - and then he calls her ugly to her face and she goes and makes him coffee with a smile like he didn't just treat her like dog sh*t he found on his shoe. Now bear in mind, as far as I can tell, this girl is really only mildly tr*shy. Like she calls his mother ajumma, and is probably not very polite with her mother's employees in general, but, like... other than that all we know is she was annoyingly clingy in high school. That's it. I mean, sure, not the kind of person you'd expect anyone to like, not at all, but most people would give higher regard to tr*sh in the street than MC gives to her, and it's just off. At least he doesn't actively beat her up, unlike the phone salesman who scammed him, but that's probably just because she's a girl and manly men don't do that. And while we're on the subject of the salesman... apparently beating him up was the right thing to do. He gets his fancy phone, and it's all fine and dandy; no police are called, no "Roused" law enforcement - which there must be to maintain order in a world full of suddenly superpowered humans to prevent them from forming gangs and beating up civilians for the shits and giggles, or, more likely, money and valuables. You know, like what MC just did. Because MC is OP compared to regular folks, but he's not truly OP yet. But still, no retribution, nothing. Intimidation is the way of the righteous people! Did I mention I'm just 27 chapters in?

It's not that there's absolutely nothing to be had by way of entertainment here, but all the parts you want to read can probably be found in other works with better pacing and morals. If this was original at any point, it's uniqueness doesn't hold up now. <<less

Well, what can I say. My opinion is pretty similar to the ones already posted -- it started off AMAZING, but took a downturn towards the ending.

It has been a fantastic ride. I like the MC and the story and the world. It's fun, it's hilarious, it's cool. But perhaps starting from the dimensional battle and stuff onward, I gradually lose interest in the story. I don't see the point of that battle at all. And towards the ending about VR world and stuff, god I totally lost it. I... more>> do have to admit that since I binged too many stories I didn't put in too much effort to really digest the information scattered, but tbh I really don't understand what's going on in the novel. I didn't sign up for a sci-fi genre at the very least, so I guess I have the right to be confused.

I don't know what to think about the story anymore after the ending. But I'll still give it a 4 star because it had given me a lot of joy and entertainment along the read. I'd say it's worth a shot, just don't have great expectation of the ending. <<less

It's an okay read: just to waste time. Too many plot holes, dumb choices etc. Just be ready to turn your brain off.

The MCs view of what happens to the world in a major crisis is the only realistic part. For example: he says things like 'laws are only usefully if there is a country to back it up or if the police/military even have power to arrest the criminal. But he goes on to do s*upid things all the time so... There is some disconnect there.

This is a story that is good for the 2/3 first half. Then the things that are added on just make it plummet to being a clusterf*ck. There are a lot of loose plot holes and some things don't make any sense. But the only thing you need to care about is, if you want to read a good story with a good ending or you want to read a good story with a bad ending. That basically means if you can just enjoy the first part of the novel... more>> and look past the ending, go for it. But if you are someone for whom the ending plays a big role in liking anything. You are better off not reading this. <<less
