Amakawa Haruto died before he’d the chance to reunite with his childhood friend who disappeared five years ago. Rio, a young boy living in the slums seeks revenge for his mother who was mu*dered in cold blood in front of him when he was only five years of age.

There exists the earth many know of and there exists an alternate world. Two people, each with their own backgrounds and values. For odd reasons, the memories and personality of Haruto, one who should have died resurrects in Rio’s body. As the two are confused over their memories and personality fusing together, Rio (Haruto) decides to live in this new world.

Along with Haruto’s memories, Rio awakens an unknown but special power. If he’s to use it, it looks as if he can live a better life, but before that, Rio encountered a kidnapping which results in involving the two princesses of the Bertam Kingdom.

After saving the princesses, Rio is given a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy, a school for the rich and powerful. His background being a poor orphan who once lived in the slums, the school full of nobles was rather a detestable place to stay at.

The world and the magic system in this novel are quite interesting, I enjoyed the MC's travel and many characters keep me from dropping this novel (Liselotte in particular) but to enjoy this novel to the fullest, you have to be really really really reallly really PATIENT.

The MC reincarnated into an orphan and has the memories of the orphan. Being a normal isekai novel's MC, he is super cheat and after rescuing the princess from 4-5 adult bandits, he gets enrolled into a noble's school. After enrolling, he is bullied... more>> every day by his classmates to the point that after several years, he is accused of a crime that he did not commit and is forced to quit school. Despite that, he keeps his cool like it has nothing to do with him and starts travelling.

Concerning his love interests, he just isn't interested in anyone except his childhood friend, he has friendzoned every single girl that has some interest in him so far... I don't really get the author at this point, I mean, what's the point of having soooo many girls fall for him if he keeps friendzoning everyone... Besides, some just fall for him for no reason...

Lastly, the author has the habit of delaying the inevitable and this is SO FREAKING ANNOYING. I don't know how many times I wanted to flip my desk at this point because it is just too obvious how it will end but for some reason or another, it keeps getting delayed...
Spoiler

He finally meets his childhood friend (surprise!!! she gets transported to this world) but he gets too scared to reveal his true identity, and despite living together for 3 MONTHS, he doesn't reveal it. After 40+ chapters I just wanted to shout "JUST F*CKING DO IT AND GET THIS OVER WITH!!".

And what is even more frustrating is that when he FINALLY grow some balls and intend to confess to her, this WHOLE confession gets delayed because of nuisances that keeps appearing!!! I tried really hard to not shout when I read this, really really hard...

The last thing that frustrated me even more is that because of all these nuisances, he decides to write a letter to her, informing her of his true identity and that he loves her but EVEN THAT F*CKING LETTER GETS INTERCEPTED BY HIS LOVE RIVAL (who is a hero) AND THIS SAME LOVE RIVAL DECIDES TO KIDNAP HER AND LIE TO EVERYONE!!!!

[collapse]

Sigh, I swear that this novel just keeps getting me stressed... That is the reason for why I said that to enjoy this novel, you have to be extremely patient because even if the end is obvious, there exist too many obstacles, and even if there were no more, the author will keep creating some... <<less

It's shit.

Started out vaguely interesting, with the world's hostility matching the prowess the protagonist (Rio) was showing. Everyone is out to piss on him, so him having super powers is fair. You want to see him excel and overcome in such a situation.

But no, he leaves when the going gets tough again (though I loved the real politik the King and nobles were playing) and then arrives at the indigenous noble savage village due to a literal escort side-quest he does because he doesn't have the spine to just leave... more>> someone behind. The place is apparently filled with creatures of all races just getting along and being kind to one another in a complete 180 to the humans. At this point, I started to get annoyed.

We're told that only the nobles essentially get to learn magic and that their system is limited and restricting while everyone in the Spirit village gets a taste of the Dryad's sap which gives them the basic ability to use their version of magic, which is much more well-rounded and varied. On top of that, the beastmen of the spirit village have stronger bodies, the elves can make better potions, the dwarves can make better armor etc. The Spirit village excels humanity in all regards, it seems.

Yet for some reason the humans seem to be completely dominating the world, with the spirit people only living in a single village, often also getting kidnapped by humans for s*avery? The world building makes no sense.

Rio is a half-baked and driveless character. He gets to have his cake ("oh, not gonna do anything, never show initiative in anything I do") but at the same time he gets to eat it (everyone is overwhelmed in the Spirit village is overwhelmed by his kindness and bend over backwards to please him). And then he casually instructs them on sh*t like martial arts, civil engineering and apparently politics as well? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LET SOME WET BEHIND THE EARS KID WHO JUST SHOWED UP ONE DAY DICTATE LAW? What makes the author think that some random college kid knows enough about society to just come around and randomly throw advice around, and have nothing go wrong? The arrogance and sheer ignorance of the author is baffling.

The spirit village is f*cking shit. The main character is a spineless wuss. The "love interests" are all one-dimensional cardboard cutouts who only exists for the sake of some nebulous checklist in the author's mind.

Don't bother with this, it's not worth it. <<less

Initially it was good. The first few chapters, the teachers, the things happening - all good. Not great, but readable and enjoyable. But as we go further down the road, it gets weird, convoluted, plot-armour prone, and just down right boring. It became a chore to read and heck at ch40-50, I was just reading to know what happened next, not for the the entertainment-factor. But yeah, now it is just beyond my comprehension why I tried to read this so much. If you wanna read it, you do you... more>> and I'll do me. I'm reluctant to drop this but I have to. It was a good ride but now it is just getting sloppy. <<less

This novel severely lacking protagonist male character. It become harem as if the only decent male in the world is the protagonist.

It's still bearable if the MC doesn't have an egoistical imaginative thinking like he is haruto or Rio.
Spoiler

It's not as if he could talk with another soul named Rio inside him anyway. He is both from the start and the memory of previous life just 'unlocked' due to an event.

If Rio is Rio and haruto is haruto, then why haruto hate Lucius when the ones who got killed is Rio mother? Isn't Rio mother is just another unfortunate lady who got killed by psycho? Why he go so far just to avenge an unknown dead kid named Rio and dirty his own hand with killing?

[collapse]

Logic is not implemented there.

The only saving grace is side character developed enough and they're helping MC from loneliness. But, just being friend is enough, not the romantic ones. Because it would falls to the first statement, it looks like the MC is the only decent male in the world and other males is just tr*sh or a childish adult.

Yes boys don't like him. Again commoner yet smarter and better with a sword then they are.

Yes he sucks up everything that happened to him but he is secretly an adult and more mature than a kid should be. Not to mention of he starts just beating down... more>> nobles it would take away his goal for revenge. People should think about those things before making comments. <<less

Best novel ever

That's it

I don't get why does many people hate this novel even though this novel teach us about being strong in our lives

... more>> The MC Rio (Haruto) is a cool protagonist and is pretty much perfect in every subject

But look here, I did say that it teaches us about the hardness in life, it is to prove that someone else is having the time where they suffer more then we do

I mean it is very obvious how he was tortured till near death Twice (perhaps)

This novel is a 10/10 for me and that's it <<less

Decided to write this at the 108 mark. I very much agree with Spoon's assessment of the MC and that over a hundred chapters in, he's become a very stunted individual character wise. He maintains an extremely odd and single-minded love to his childhood friend that he hasn't seen or spoken to in over a decade (since he was FIVE YEARS OLD, speaking wise). Of course when we finally do get to see her as a character she's as boring and unexciting as they come - a standard 16 year... more>> old high school purity princess whose defining character trait is that she and the MC are childhood friends in love with each other. She has nothing interesting to say or do, she's just... the girl. This might not be so bad if the series doesn't have several female characters with significantly more substance to them and significantly more interaction with the MC.

As for the MC himself and the story, it starts off with a base of vengeance and giving him pretty good reason to hate nobility (and he does). It just loses tremendous amounts of steam after the first act is complete. Revenge falls to the wayside as he goes on a journey of self-discovery, meeting friends along the way and discovering that the country he was born and raised in has the common courtesy and manners of a bag of dicks compared to everywhere else in the world. MC himself is stoic and filled with too much classic humility to a fault, almost to the point where it becomes insulting. By chapters 50 and onward he's pretty much hit demigod territory and is incredibly skilled in not just combat, but day to day activity and yet tries his damnedest to downplay himself. This is justified in-story by trying to hide his presence and strength from nobility but dear god, he exhibits it in EVERY. SINGLE. CONVERSATION. It doesn't cease, even if the person he's talking to is friendly to him. Expect to see this exchange in almost every instance he communicates with someone:

"MC-kun, you're so amazing at combat/swordsmanship/spirit arts/tea/cooking/etc.!!"

"No no, I'm not that amazing at all."

"No, seriously, you're amazing."

*in the most flowery way imaginable* "No, your graciousness is too flattering, I'm really not that amazing. I'm barely a beginner. I've only learned a few things along the way as a necessity."

REPEAT. SOMETIMES IN THE SAME EXACT CONVERSATION. <<less

This series is so full of shitload damsel in distress pile of garbage that should just be burned..... No? Well I just summarized the novel in one sentence..... Isn't that great?

Like seriously... The character, plot, world building all feels too much artificial to read... If you can have a CringeFest this is the perfect novel to read..

Edit: As of c179 srsly..

Everytime the MC does something "deserving" the reply would always be ad infinitum "I am undeserving of such praise".... Like I know JP novels have such over-the-top humbleness japanese... more>> morals, but this guy have such a ridiculous amount of it.

I think this is the best novel I ever read. The story is about Amakawa Haruto who regains his memories from his previous life in Rio (In another fantasy world), A five years old boy in slum. In his previous life he had only one regret. He couldn't convey his feeling to his childhood friend. Despite one day, the disappearance of his childhood friend. He continued to live, and train such as martial arts and housework. Rio suffers from hunger. By chance he encountered a kidnapping which results in... more>> involving the two princesses of the Bertam Kingdom. After saving the princesses, Rio is given a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy, a school for the rich and powerful noble. Because of his backgrounds, he is detested.

What is the best of this story is MC life is full of hardship, but he never give up. After he quit the Royal Academy, He travels to many places to find clues about his parent and help other peoples, deepen bond with others, and grow more as capable man. He then find true friendships.

This novel is full of details and consideration. I often check details and characters in the previous chapter. There are many heart warming and impressing scenes such as when Rio said goodbye to his teacher. Also outsmarting and comedy. This novel present harsh reality but optimistic looking, a way of life that could be better and be declined, and the MC decision that doesn't seek for perfect solution. Somebody might find it heavy drama. Somebody that don't like the good MC might find MC is really annoying. But if you are not, this novel is the one you should pick. <<less

I'm going to be perfectly honest. This wasnt a bad novel (at least not at first) despite having a huge checklist of over used tropes and a MC who is kind of a Mary Sue. No, I'd say this novel was slightly above average. The characters, while not being amazing, are likable enough to keep one invested. I also kinda like how the novel handles magic though, once again, there's not anything super original or standout about it. The setting, standard, and the interactions between characters are good enough to... more>> get some investment from the readers.

Where this novel falters is in how fricken annoying the MC is. You know those novels where the MC kills everyone and everything over the smallest of annoyances? Yeah, well this one is the exact opposite. The MC gets stepped on over and over and over again but does Jack s*** about it. In most novels the MC gets some kind of revenge against the people who have wronged him/her but in this novel, there is very little to no pay off at all. I can't stand how da** tolerant this MC is. I almost feel like the author is trolling us readers with this stuff. It's gotten to the point where, like others have mentioned, it's almost unreadable to me now from the sheer annoyance at the MC not doing anything to people how walk all over him on a seemingly daily basis.

IF you can bare with the the crappyily made, stereotypical, aristicrats sh****g all over the MC again and again then this novels could be considered slightly above average. It's good enough to garner a recommendation if you have nothing else to watch or read and can stand all the previously mentioned.

For me it gets a 3/10

I give it 2/5 stars on this site because I did get some initial enjoyment out of the novel.

For people who don't mind all the annoyances, it gets a 5/10 or maybe a 6/10, an average to slightly above average novel. <<less

This is nothing but useless rambling so feel free to skip :)

It is sad when you realize the series you were looking up to becomes a mess of over-used tropes. *Sigh*

This is the case with Seirei Gensouki, which sounded promising at first but it slowly carved away the interest, especially on the latest arcs. I know I read pretty much everything before dropping the series, but it was an entertaining ride, even when MC-kun is not likeable, nor even you can relate his situation

My personal main problem is the... more>> MC, he is too god-dam-n PERFECT. Yes, he is too perfect, he fights at a whole other level when compared to anyone in the world, while also keeping masterful control over his every move and reaction, and he can do housework above people who have done it they entire lives (which includes cooking, as the author has been so explicit about it). I know isekai MC are supposed to have cheat abilities to compensate for whatever will happen in their future, but with this (and other isekai LN) I think we are going to the extreme where is not even funny anymore. A (pretty much natural) genius reborn as an even more genius in another world.

Another problem I personally have is the world where the story takes place. Pretty much the world turns around the MC, whether it is to shower him with help or to shower him with insults. I mean, there is no need for the whole continent to bend backwards just because MC happened to be there., but this is the case. It is especially obvious since the supposed setting is a "a place that shows no mercy on those without status" but I can't really relate to the story anymore.

Bottom line is, you can enjoy this series (since no one can really prohibit you from doing so), but with other better series out there (ones with more substance and less tropes) why should you even bother? <<less

Wow I'm appaled at how bad the review is, first thing first, all the people that said the MC are punching bag that won't resist being wronged by noble and completely cold and disinterested by anything clearly didn't even finished the opening arc

Though the one that said MC are OP for no reason except plot, can't refute that

i can't really say anything about the romance, there's people that prefer that he stay to his original love (and completely disregard any other girl like a douche) and there's people that prefer... more>> he try to open his heart more and look at other girl a little (because the girl effort totally deserve it)

The action are actually pretty good, rather than the MC that too strong, it's his surrounding that are too weak, his amazing magic are simply because human suck at magic, when he's in spirit village, what he did are all child play for other spirit warrior

In fact, the main antagonist, the reason they need to summon the hero, the demon, the concurrent villain definitely has a huge leeway, that he keep laughing while teasing and provoking the MC midfight, treating him like an annoyance at best

The girl that fall for him didn't fall out of nowhere either, there's at least an entire arc to build their feeling

In the end, I don't really understand the majority of the reason people stated to drop this series, he keep being polite and flatter people? It's noble society, what you expect? A s*upid hero come out of nowhere taking the heroine so it's tr*sh? It's a f*ckin drama, the story need that, or else it's gonna become all too smooth for the MC, the MC too good like all "japanese" to even retaliate and hurt somebody? Dude chase his mom mu*derer across 4 countries before blast him to pieces after totally trample over him

The only thing I can't comment are the romance, though for me, some of the girl definitely deserve some happiness after all their troubles and effort <<less

I used to love this novel so much. It has great heartwarming scenes. And even though MC is a Gary Stu his life is not perfect. But now, when I realized what the direction the author is writing, and I loathe it.

This novel, like kuro no maou, likes to build hope, then throws it to the ground, smash it, then step on it.

This moments occurs always when something good happens to MC.

Spoiler

1.) On the very first start of the novel MC was separated from sweetheart but promises to wed in the future. Although this is not a bad thing as it actually builds a plot, this promise becomes a curse, more on that later.

2.) MC is popular he rejects every confession since he loves sweetheart and he's a Gary Stu. When MC become a freshmen highschool, he got very happy to know that his sweetheart is in the same school he'll attend. But when he tries to approach her she saw a guy chatting happily with her. Several rumors that they were dating certainly didn't either. So MC goes home heartbroken.

3.) The next day (I think) MC even though heartbroken, is satisfied that their separation is over, prompting many chances to meet up with her. This was wrecked since sweetheart (alongside others) disappeared and was never found.

4.) MC now a university student, still chained by a promise that will never be fulfilled, rejects advances from women since he will only love one person. Though his kindness never fade, his bad luck never did either. Died full of regrets in an unfortunate accident that wasted all of his life for nothing

With the main chracater starting out reincarnated into the body of a child who died but he still retains his memories, transforms that premise into bland school arc, the MC has a trend of being shunned by society for being a commoner, proceeds to being shunned for being a human and then for being an "outsider", it never seems to end, he of course is massive overpowered having memories of being a master... more>> kendo practicioner or somenthing from his past life, has all the girls loving him, has a dark past on where his

, and in the middle of all these events, the author tries to make a social commentary on the nature of humanity and its ability to do great things and how we must not fall to the dark animalistic instincts we all have, which comes out as condencending, bland, you'll feel like a grade schooler being taught about philosophy.

It tries to teach us about some sort of good and evil struggle inside all of us and falls flat, because no character in this polarised world feels human, they're either cartoonishly good or evil with no one in between, no one has any depth here, the main character is a saint and the one time I saw him with mu*derous intent affter a rapist goes affter a girl close to him whom he of course, saves before anything horrible could be done and right affter he chastises himself for sucumbing to the dark side, right affter the girl distances from him due to fear from his "other persona", they later make up but the execution of this scene, which portrays his anger, bloodlust and any dark emotions makes him distance from her. So all emotions that ALSO make us human in this novel, are also shunned... I wanted to like this novel, I blazed through the first 30 chapters of the novel, ignoring all of its faults because it has an interesting world and premise that I wanted to like, but everything that isnt those two things falls completely, it starts out well but it becomes bland, boring and predictable with the author touring the MC around the world so he gets stronger to later come back and have his revange (Which the main character from what i've noticed adamantly shouts "Revange brings nothing! and its an empty goal!" and later on chapter 44 decides to kill him anyways because reasons?, no hard feelings its just somenthing he "ought to do".

Summary:

If you want to watch this novel, do it while not having high expectations, it rellies on your spirit of adventure to make you keep on reading and does not deliver on it to any significant degree, with the main character meeting every single fantasy race like elves and dwerves and other 3 at the same time and proceeds to japan fantasy nation, I do not know what the strong point of this novel is, its not the message that misses the point, its not the characters, and its not the world, there is nothing new or interesting for you here that you havent seen before. <<less

Emm.. So this is my first time writing an opinion on a light novel. And also sorry for my bad English-- cuz im Indonesian.

After reading till 103chapter, im not recommend this novel to someone who love "Action or Romance or Revenge plot like Tate no Yuusha/Nidome", this novel has slow pace, boring, inconsistence, and lame as fck. The MC is really naive person, even *SPOILERS* after 30+ chapter-since Miharu-tachi first appear, Rio still not told'em that he is her childhood friend Amakawa Haruto, just because a shitty reason like "I... more>> dont want to disturb her feelings". WHAT A NAIVE..

And second, what I expecting from this novel is "A nice revenge to the person that killed his mom". But what I got is "Yeah, I will definitely kill that guy"-- but the progression isnt increasing (not a percent) after 103 chapters. What the hell is this novel.

SO MY FINAL SCORE IS 2/5. WHICH IS BAD.. (Honestly I rlly dont know the reason why I still read those chapter) <<less

I really don't quite like it... From a person who's devoted to a harem... From gaining skills but not using them much, the protagonist lacking in decisiveness on other matters except revenge, thus lacking in depth, lacking in tension and climax and all the other components that need to be present in a story. Although it does not need to stick to the Freytag's pyramid, do have something different once in a while won't you???? I had expectations, but it all went down the drain later on....

I do not like the whole childhood friend thing. Simply because there is no point in a range of potential love interests if that role decided. My opinion of the Childhood friend romance may change later but for now am against it.
How IMMORAL.

As for the character he's despite too passive and lacking ambition.

If you came here from the anime, I will advise reading this first.

It does have some flaws in it so far from first few chapters. Like. MC automatically knowing how to use magic just out of nowhere (I call BS on that, but whatever I guess.)

Besides that, the story moves differently from that of the anime that is airing right now. The events are different chronologically as well. Plus, the start is much different too. I don't think this is much spoiler heavy. In the anime it starts with... more>> him with the guys. In the novel he ends up coming across them and what they were doing.

Right now I will rate later as I read more of this. But this is a heads up if you came due to anime like I have and wanted to see. (Yes, again events are fully different in almost all regards so far with first few chapters.)

So read bit further after anime or what had been aired since the posting of this (Anything after EP4.)

Well. Anime kinda has the baddie already in it. The WN you don't know who baddie is. Which is something I hate when things get adapted to animes. It takes away elements of suspense, but I guess they trying to cut as many corners as possible there.

But back to the novel. The novel is... Well.. A bit bland. It is better than the anime (well to me) but it still has faults. As some folks already mentioned how unbelievable MC is at the start, despite being a starving child, he can still one up folks. That and again way he so quickly learned magic out of no where without even two chapters in. Like what was that?

It is just boring. If anything, this is a good novel to pass time with to read if you wanting to sleep. I found myself getting tired as I continued to read through one chapter to the next. It is just.. Very boring. I liked the concept and otherworld thing, there are some things I like about MC, but honestly MC isn't really that realistic or believable of a character. At the end of the day, it is just another typical OP Isekai story that doesn't bring much to the table in terms of originality or characters.

As for rating, it is pretty obvious.
One star filling up story, plot, characters, harem, world, etc.
The other star? Yea, the other star goes to it being a good read if you want something to help you sleep. <<less

Started off good, then went rock bottom, I hoped it would get better but I won't be waiting for it anymore. A waste of time and not in a good sense. I can ignore a lot of dumb stuff in novels (MC here is one of them) because I read them for fun but this one is a chore to read. Plenty of the chapters later on are dedicated to expository on mundane things that doesn't add to or enhance the story at all.
