Amakawa Haruto died before he’d the chance to reunite with his childhood friend who disappeared five years ago. Rio, a young boy living in the slums seeks revenge for his mother who was mu*dered in cold blood in front of him when he was only five years of age.

There exists the earth many know of and there exists an alternate world. Two people, each with their own backgrounds and values. For odd reasons, the memories and personality of Haruto, one who should have died resurrects in Rio’s body. As the two are confused over their memories and personality fusing together, Rio (Haruto) decides to live in this new world.

Along with Haruto’s memories, Rio awakens an unknown but special power. If he’s to use it, it looks as if he can live a better life, but before that, Rio encountered a kidnapping which results in involving the two princesses of the Bertam Kingdom.

After saving the princesses, Rio is given a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy, a school for the rich and powerful. His background being a poor orphan who once lived in the slums, the school full of nobles was rather a detestable place to stay at.

The Start of this story was a big turn off..... so much so I dropped it right away. However having nothing left to read I picked it up again. Glad I did.

Story is about a guy who dies and finds himself inside the body of a 7 year old boy in another world. Their mind merge into one having memories from both worlds. Rio is the name of the boy whom will hold both personalities, however Haru is the main guy who is the dominant and leading character here and... more>> makes all decisions, while Rio is just a background influence allowing him to remember and understand the world.

Rio had a tragic life and is full of hate and vengeance while Haru is a Japanese who is a pacifist. No killing under ANY circumstances... a clash of two extreme personalities. Who will win out? Can Haru maintain his no kill rule? As said Rio is in the background and is only giving off emotions, his memories and feelings, while Haru controls the body and decision making. There is no struggle for control in that sense as Haru took over the body, thus the adventure begins.

The Author has made it extremely hard on the MC so much so you will feel unease and sick to your stomach at times. You wonder why the MC must endure such hardships and the wrongs that are thrown at him so that others may save face. AND you will also feel anguish when those you thought were beholden to him as he saves them turn on him without a second thought.

The story is not all anguish and betrayal, but it sets the mood as you go forth into the story. There are also good times as well and lightheartedness. After chapter 10 things begin to settle down a bit and the story begins to progress in a positive manner, but the first 10 chapters are all bad imo. Get passed them to finally get to the real story.. The first 10 chapters are just to set up the “Humans are bad” story.

One thing that does bother me that does not pertain to this novel alone is the fact that the Japanese try to portray themselves as people who cherish life above all else, simply stating they can not kill, when in fact their history is filled with violence and killing on equal grounds compared to any other nation. The author is trying to say the Japanese have no thought of killing another human, and that may be true for today in SOME cases, but one can not disregard their past 1000+ years of history, that we the western viewers have come to see and in some cases even admire that history. Every person of every nation is capable of killing if the need arises, the question is what does it take. Some in rare cases can not even at the cost of their families life while others can kill without a second thought. This is not limited to the Japanese or any one nation, it pertains to us all. So when an author such as this writes “we Japanese who cherish life above all and can not kill” I find it hypocritical of him writing such when looking at their history as a whole. No country has a clean history...........

First 10 chapters 1/5 stars, the following chapters 4/5 and enjoyable. I will give it an overall 4/5 so others may enjoy the story as well. <<less

This is just poorly conceived.

Characters: Male characters hate the protagonist, often without even meeting him. Female characters like him for no reason, except when they hate him for no reason. Main character is a high school japanese boy who's apparently perfect, but he gets reincarnated into a commoner child and he's still perfect.

Setting: The world is messed up. It's a bit hard to explain, but the situation really seems custom-made to be hard on the protagonist. I mean, it almost works, but the author forces the situation too far for... more>> me to take it seriously
Spoiler

like after the duke pins the blame on the commoner, it's revealed that he made a beastgirl daughter with a s*ave, and he ens*aved the daughter, and all for the sole purpose of using her as an assassin. And then he uses this assassin to track down and kill a commoner whose death doesn't make a difference to the duke...

[collapse]

Story: For eighteen chapters, it's about a boy being bullied, framed, attacked, and hated wherever he goes, no matter what he does, no matter how he looks, no matter how he acts. At the same time, he looks down on everyone and is apparently stronger than elite soldiers with his background of... being a high-schooler who did martial arts. And the body of a child who never trained martial arts.

Conclusion: If the foundation is rotten, you can't expect what's built on it to stand very well. Even if someone says "but it gets better" or "chapter 100 is amazing!!!"... it would have to undo all the worldbuilding and character development so far, and at that point it should just be tossed into the garbage and rewritten. <<less

Eh this is so far at ch 13, MC is "too mature" and gives 0 f*cks about everything (he is super bullied like I can understand not feeling any kind of discomfort by being alone, but daily he recieves verbal abuse for 5 f*cking years), he chooses to stay in the academy for no reason since he had nothing to gain other than minor sh*t (obviously for plot)... still is it weird I want the MC to kill someone? author made the MC the "ideal japanese" cant hurt people, super... more>> good person, etc as if a normal person could survive that kind of abuse without any kind of trauma - 2 stars

Ch - 26: Well the MC keeps having misfortune and doing nothing about it and not holding any kind of grudge.. im not a great man, I get grudges from the simplest matter so I cant really sympathize with this buda/jesus christ/allah reborn, keeping the 2 stars.. <<less

Punching bag main character without any personality, with every woman who crosses paths with him instantly fall in love with him. No redeeming traits to this novel, every character is rather flat, the MC is boring, there is no badass action, there is no badass magic, there is no politics... I could go on, this is just a half baked novel, none of the events feel interconnected.

Spoiler

author just had to waste 100 chapters about him saying how much he loves his childhood friend to make the shitty hero snatch her away saying to MC that they are already going out and the MC just be like "that so? Okay, congrats then, see ya", this happens in chapter 110 and as you can see in the others reviews, 80 chapters out and he still didnt go see her again to confirm any shit

It's lame and boring for me.

It keeps giving you rage, rage, rage then an unsatisfying normal chapter, then rage, rage, rage, another unsatisfying happy-supposed-to-be again, and so on.

While it's true that I can see the author throws so many hints about a happy ending, he/she failed to keep me stay, and that's what important.

... more>> Maybe the author wants you to really feel that ending after countless rage chapter, but unfortunately many people fall before they could reach the end.

The boring mainstream dialogue and unimportant descriptive paragraphs makes it even worse.

Not recommended at all. <<less

It was kind of good at the beggining. But it absolutely has no progression and the main character is a pushover. Firstly for the first 70 chapters he has an irrational love of somebody he knew when he was 8 and has not seen in years. He even comes to a different world where she doesn't exist but just keeps going on and on about that. And for no particular reason since they never actually gave a reason behind his love. When she finally arrives in the story he's too... more>> scared to show his identity and makes absolutely no progress. He drops way too many hints including giving the actual name from his original world but the other characters are to oblivious to realize it. When he finally does decide to make a move 50 chapters later, He hands the letter for the heroine to his one and only love rival, who OFCOURSE reads it and disposes of the letter. He then tricks the heroine into coming with him through a scam, and tells the main character that she decided to come with him. At this point you would think that the main character would argue and chase after her from all his monologues about how much he loves her. But nope, he calmly accepts it and wishes them a good life. This marks the beggining of a new arc where we won't even get to see the heroine for at least 50 more chapters (keep in mind that the chapters in this novel are very long and 50 chapters would be arround 2-3 novels). All the buildup is just thrown out the window. In general the story is a absolute train wreck. <<less

That's it, I'm officially fed up now. At the beggining things were interesting and it had an actual plot that was advancing at a slow but steady pace. However sh*t completely went sideways when the supposed main heroine, who for some reason all the readers were greatly anticipating, shows up and the story turns into some forced romance shoujo bullshit. Its like a dating sim written and designed by the worlds most boring person who also suffers from insomnia. The worst part has to be the mc's recent cringy personality... more>> thats jam packed with scripted flattery, excessive and unnatural politeness and overbearing modestly. I literally just skimmed through the latest chapter and all that happened is they arrived at the mansion, MC complements the mansion, cliche doting parent nobles talk about their daughter and ask MC to be her friend. Mind you these chapters are fairly long for a wn.

Edit:

So I came back to check this out as it's reached chapter 116 and the first thing I find out is that some other dickface has NTR'd the mc's childhood friend and little sister...

PURE GARBAGE. <<less

Hum, this novel is a bit interesting, everything was all good and fun until there's some NTR mixed in it, completely ruined a great story. The NTR is just someone else's guess so by some chance it's not NTR I might go back and read it.

Okay. Don't be fooled. Although there is a Seinen tag, this is actually very close to Shoujo, with male lead instead. If you've read Shoujo before then you should have known that there are tons of forced nonsense drama and logic inside that wretched tag.

But.. There is one positive aspect from it, which is a strong yearning of love between the male lead and the female lead, so much until the male lead sees nothing but only one girl in his heart, although his harem are trying so hard to... more>> get his D*** hard. Joking aside, this is probably the very first light/web novel that I've read with such strong love between the main couple, which is both very refreshing and annoying to read, because the author is trying very hard at making them to be separated at all cost, with the nonsense and forced drama to prolong the story of this novel. Add some of the usual fantasy and isekai theme, and that's the entirety of this novel.

By the time I wrote this review, I've read the web novel raws up until certain arc that made me rather furious with it's obvious nonsense drama, around 150~ish. Dropped this, and probably won't pick back up until the author updates the web novel and fixes that.

TL;DR : A Shoujo manga/your local TV drama being written like the usual mainstream light novels <<less

Terrible. The MC is ridiculously overpowered for no apparent reason:

  • Regardless of his age in his previous life, he never faced life or death situations yet his mind state is abnormally stable during them
  • Regardless of his training in his previous life, his current body is that of a starving 7 years old kid with no training. His current body shape should be horrible and yet even after being tortured, he's able to dodge the sword of a skilled knight without resorting to magic (which he magically learned how to use for the sake of overpowering the MC)
All the world in this novel can be resumed by "Everyone except the MC is bad. Very very bad. The MC is not only the reincarnation of Jesus, but also the reincarnation of Chuck... more>> Norris so he can accomplish everything he wants. Once the bad, bad people are saved by Jes *cough* the MC, they will start loving and worshiping him" <<less

first this is rant review.

THIS IS DREADFUL FOR ME

I'm okay with NTR novel, im okay with betrayed novel even im reading most underworld exciplit s*x novel (1-2* rating novel). But this, this novel drag the reader and feeling like 50 chapter and ended most dissapointed way. After that I goes skimming. The MC are japanese reborn person, WHO are desperated find her beloved childhood friend to find in previous life and his new life. And when he find her..

Spoiler

he act cowardly, didnt reveal he is looking for her in his whole life. As beta MC japanese im already expecting this, but this is whole new level. I mean they meet at 60-ish chapter and yet he giving up after rejection when he not even revealed he is the same person aft 50 chapter (arround 110+). NOT MENTION THIS NOVEL CHAPTER ARE LONG

[collapse]

Other else, world building, character, relationship is usual japanese. Pace just.. Its good at start until MC meet childhood friend and the pace become slow af and full of filler. MC keep raise flag yet he giving up on his target flag. Dude the author want to play with our feelings, my thought are bleak now, i hope the MC su*cide since he is giving up easily, to end his miserable life. That may fit the end of this novel.

Ah aside for my ranting, im only cant enjoyed the chapter due the pace feels dragged and act of MC who merciless undefeated OP yet coward about his feeling, for the early part its actually interesting. After his giving up, idc about incoming arc, skimming arround until.. I just want to see which chapter he gonna meet her childhood friend. 2/5 since the author clearly drag this on, in annoying way. But hey once more the novel start really good, its really questionable why lately become like this.

I need to cool my head.

I thought the set-up of the initial plot was interesting, but then a harem was forced in. Worse yet, the MC is extraordinarily chauvinistic. When training others, he is extremely harsh on the boy and extremely light on the girl. He doesn't even realize how incredibly disrespectful and biased he is being. Not to mention, he is this ridiculously OP Gary Stu with a secretly amazing heritage and vast knowledge of machinery and agriculture. Even though he doesn't have passion for much of anything, he can do everything. Not to... more>> mention, he can easily speak most languages in this world. His culinary skill is world-tier. I think he's also supposed to be fantastically handsome, too. He is a jerk and clearly showed that he has no romantic interest in most members of his harem, but they still yearn for his affection years later, even when they haven't seen or heard a word from him during all that time. Of course, all of the girls get along, too.

Of course, everyone who isn't part of the MC's harem or his friends and allies can be considered to be petty villains.

There isn't any real challenge or threat. No excitement. No character growth.

This WN could be saved by side characters, but even they are no good. Their personalities are even flatter and more minimal than the MC's. I cannot think of any winning points for this series. <<less

Grammar: 1.5~3/5 (Starts off around a 2.5 in the early chapters, makes it up to a 3, before nosediving to a 1.5 in the later chapters)

Writing: 2/5

Story: 2/5

... more>> All in all, below average.

The grammar for this series is all over the place, but the later chapters hit rock bottom with very simplistic, almost toddler-ish English. The writing throughout the entire series is a bit below average in that it makes its point (most of the time) but still lacks flavor or even consistency. The story is a bunch of generic cliches slapped together without anything original.

I was enjoying it up until the English started to go "Baby-talk" on me, but I personally like cliche stories.

Not a recommended read if you don't want your characters devolving into Baby-talk mid-way through the series. <<less

It seemed to start off well, but the dude is too flaky, then too unrealistic... then what happens later on just made me angry. I don't like stories where the main character is 1) an idiot when it comes to the most important thing in his life, 2) an herbivore when it comes to a harem, and 3) completely forgets every relationship that isn't immediately in his face at the moment. It's completely unrealistic, forced drama that I tried very hard to like, but I just got completely fed up.

It's an action series that the plot is moving forward with it's romance. Over the course of the series the MC is being bullied and wronged almost all the times, that is until girls somehow flocking over him and becomes his companion. It seems it will become a harem series, but the MC denies any possibility of romance with these girls since he loves only one girl.

The thing is, the MC is as dense as Ichika from Infinite Stratos and he's prone to misunderstanding that could be easily solved... more>> if only he asked like a man (the author is a girl so sometimes it feels the MC acts with female mindset...) The netorare vibes comes from him letting the girl he loves goes with another guy just because he's fidgeting like a girl and the guy who tried to steal the girl acts very shitty that you want to punch him but the MC takes no actions.

If you don't like a prolonged romantic misunderstanding that maybe will only solved at the end of the series this will be hard to read as the series goes. The misunderstandings will stay there and the MC won't take actions to deal with it. <<less

As usual, the story started out in a really nice way-and quite a dark one. However, later on it all became a typical sparkly harem with an op MC. The dark story basically got pushed out of the main focus of this novel. Still, I would continue to read it, if not for the translation, which at the later chapters is mediocre at best (it was good at the beginning). I'd say it's not worth reading.

For those whom are interested in this novel and thinking whether it is worth reading or not.

I will personally say, it is worth reading, and advise not to get discouraged by the bad reviews.

I won't say the novel is amazing/legendary, nor free from plotholes, therefore no 5* from me, however, it is an extraordinary read. While it is plagued by some stereotypes from your common-everywhere isekai novel, the author approach to the novel is unusual.

If I am to give my opinion, I think it is most likely a factor that... more>> because while the author is a female this novel is catered more towards male reader, however at the same time also catered towards some female readers. DON'T get me wrong, and think I went "HAHAH" just because it is a female author. I'm implying here that; most isekai novel oriented towards male reader are written by male author. Therefore this author through her differing perspective and point of view (most likely due to differ between male and female POV), the author managed to deliver reader isekai novel with a differ than usual approach.

==================

Now some of you might ask "Why the haters?" If you noticed, most of the reader who came to hate this novel, they have a very common point, which is:

"WN CH.105~CH.109" and "I can't tolerate the MC anymore"

From these points, it's easy to tell that this WN CH.105 is a turning point for the novel. Now the next question potential reader need to know is "what happen at WN Ch.105?" The answer is "Culture Shock".

I won't spoil what happen on WN ch.105 here, but I will elaborate that most haters here "DON"T agree with the MC (or Author) action, and can't understand why the MC (or the Author) choose to do so."

The next important point is "Why did this Culture Shock happen?" This will brings back to my earlier point. Simply said "If this novel is written by your dime-a-dozen isekai novel male author, WN CH.105 will have happy ending, the Culture shock won't happen, and the haters won't appear." Analytically, the culture shock happen because most of this novel reader are your typical shounen-manga (/ shounen isekai novel) reader, but then the reader are given a content/conclusion not typical to what a shounen-manga (/ shounen isekai novel) reader would like or expect or usually encounter. Which eventually results "haters" appearing and giving abyssmal rating for the novel.

Is Seirei Gensouki bad? Is WN Ch.105 bad and should not have come as it had happened to be in Seirei Gensouki? For the haters, yes is bad, Seirei Gensouki become a dirt in their eye. After all it is a betrayal to their belief/expectation/stereotype. In addition, the MC had been repeating the same problem from considerable chapters back, which lead to build up stress from the readers, which finally explode at WN CH.105

But, for those readers with more reading experience and wider genre of reading, what the author did at Seirei Gensouki is something understandable, and in fact what should had made Seirei Gensouki differ from dime-a-dozen isekai novel out there. To help reader like this novel, reader need to understand the following factor: 1. Author is Japanese, 2. Female Author writing a isekai novel catered more towards male reader, 3. Reader might not be a Japanese and is living a far different culture from Japanese 4. Trap and Downfall of Isekai Novel. Understanding 1, 2, 3 would help clear you from Culture Shock.

For point no.4, it is easier to imagine the following IF scenario:
"What if WN Ch.105 is a happy end instead, where MC by OP means solve every problem and safe the day?" I imagine there would be significantly less haters, however try guess for yourself for this IF scenario, for their next 30~60 IF chapters, what comment would you put for this novel. FYI, If I guess correctly, SeireiGensouki by the time of Ch.105 is most likely 20% at least or 35% at max from completetion. From my experience so far, I dare to say, most likely readers will put negative comments.

This is easy to see if reader follow the current state of LN version of Seirei Gensouki, which is more of your usual Stereotype Isekai Novel (luckily the WN still had yet to follow that route). <<less
