Anise suddenly gets a message on her phone one day asking whether she’d be willing to lend her their aid. As if responding to her thoughts, it chooses for her and she finds herself suddenly summoned into the world of an otome game. While Anise is dumbfounded at her situation, Hime, the girl who is summoned with her declares, “I’m the Saintess!” As a result, Anise is treated as useless and driven out.

If things were to continue to go on like this, then the general of the neighboring country will die, Hime, as the saint, will take over, and a tragic ending will be met. To avoid that and take her life into her own hands, Anise resolves to save the general, change the scenario, and just settle down somewhere. Rather, that was what she planned, however…

I don't feel like writing a long review so I'll write a short one.

This is a good story. Simple plot. Detail necessities are present. The general is a heartthrob who is reliable and flirty. MC is denser than pound cake, kind and sassy.

Plot: MC is summoned to another world with her friend, the world is just like an otome game the both of them played. The Origlow Kingdom summoned one saint but they got two people, they threw out the "fake saint" and killed her. The "fake saint" is Anise... more>> the MC. MC survived and began to find her own way to live in the world while attempting to cross into the neighboring country Farglow to meet Farglow's General and gain their protection against the "real saint" who is threatening MCs life.

The story follows Anise and her life with Farglow General. The story is a bit slow in the beginning, there is a manga and the pace is much faster than the novel. After the novel picks up, it enters into a new phase of the story where we just sit and chill with Anise and the General and watch their relationship while they wait for the awaited time to arrive.

Why the Farglow General? This relates to the Reverse Harem Otome game. In the game, the player is a saint summoned from another world, who helps the kingdom win the war and bring peace. The player chooses between handsome powerful men (crown prince etc.), and one target was a General from another country. The Saint (player), can choose the Origlow's Crown Prince and defeat the Farglow Kingdom. OR. Choose the Farglow's General and defeat the Origlow Kingdom.

-----Because Anise decided to leave Origlow and wants to live in Farglow, she travels to find Farglow's General and prevent the country from losing to the Origlow Kingdom. BECAUSE. If the Farglow General dies, the Farglow Kingdom will 100% lose the war, and will become a part of the Origlow Kingdom. Anise wants to find the General and protect his life with her powers as the Saint.

Spoiler information about chapters that begin key story points. I will write a short title next to the chapter number avoiding any major spoilers that will ruin the fun.

Spoiler

Chapter 5: Anise got kicked out of the castle

Chapter 13: Anise, Father Austin, and Lolo work at the clinic

Chapter 28: Anise, Father Austin, Lolo, and the Farglow soldier are escorted to Origlow Castle by Origlow soldiers

Chapter 31: Anise & co. arrive at Origlow castle.

Chapter 34: Anise learns the Farglow soldier's identity.

Chapter 41: Anise & co. escape Origlow castle.

Chapter 48: Anise and the Farglow General get married. (I know I just jumped from Earth to Saturn with this title, just read the novel and it makes sense)

Chapter 52: Anise & co. Arrive at the Farglow General's mansion

After ch. 52 till now ch 65, Anise and the General are just chillin at the house taking care of matters and fending off potential threats to the General's life. Not the most exciting but it is still fun to watch Anise and the General battling.... each other. Mental battles. Usually started by the General.

The term "Anise & co." : Anise, Father Austin, Lolo, and the Farglow Soldier.

Spoiler

ML: Lector Rathnan Farglow aka Lek aka Farglow's General aka Farglow's Shield

Fifth Prince of Farglow Kingdom, in charge of the frontline troops of Farglow army.

Actively attempts to seduce his wife Anise to prevent her from divorcing. An annoyingly handsome husband who uses his overflowing s*x appeal in his attempts to penetrate his dense-as-a-pound-cake wife Anise's defense. He wants Anise to let her guard down around him and catch feelings so she won't want to divorce him.

It's not working out because Anise knows he is trying to seduce her so she nullifies his charm magic and turns a blind eye towards his efforts. She agrees that he is a good catch but she does not want to be a princess and get dragged into political disputes.

Skills:

Main Skill: Appraisal. The highest level that allows him to appraise anyone he wants. Appraisal shows the person's stats; personality, background history, skill variety and level, and potential skills.

Sub-Skill: Charm. The highest level that allows him to charm anyone and act inconspicuously. Creates a sparkly effect when using skill to attack attention.

It's a little too early to say whether this story is good or not. Chapter 10 barely gets you up to what's covered by the description. However, what we have so far is:

    • Premise shows itself as a decent setup for some sort of revenge story.
    • Quality of writing is passable up to this point.
    • Quality of translation is good.
    • MC up until now shows herself as being proactive and reasonably intelligent - we'll have to see if this continues when the ML shows up.
    • I checked out the start of "The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent" for comparison. The quality of writing is a notch higher (probably due to having been edited into an LN) but I like the premise of this one better. It also makes more sense that a country would try to make use of a second summoned person rather than just give them a room and let them sit around, bored.
Update: As of c34, I've become increasingly disappointed with the series. Part of it is the protagonist going from an active to a passive role in the plot, and part of it is the current arc where it seems like she and her party are pointlessly putting themselves in the hands of the enemy for no good reason. It remains to be seen if this can be justified after the fact or if the author is just railroading the plot.

I'll continue to keep an eye on this since I'm at least a little bit invested in this story.

Maybe it's been a while since I've read a Japanese novel but this is so incredibly typical of the genre. There's a certain lack of polish in characterisation and story flow.

MC is generic "wronged-actual-saint" who can do incredibly powerful magic with barely an effort. She's ordinary looking with a sprinkle of inferiority and not very smart. MC acts first without consideration and when things go wrong starts to panic.

Side characters are pretty one note especially the so called villains who are comically evil.

Story starts of okay but the longer it... more>> continues the more juvenile it feels from the narration and plot. There's a distinct feeling that everyone is kind of just acting out a trope of the genre. <<less

It was fairly decent at first but now the MC is just being s*upid. And by that I mean s*upider than usual. There is really no reason for this except to force the plot to progress in a certain weird way. It is one thing if a character was made/born s*upid for the purpose of making 'that one guy'.

However, it is a sin if someone who is supposed to be 'intelligent' (or at least not brain dead) to suddenly and conveniently become brain dead when the plot demands. Our... more>> MC here is one such person. She is smart enough to avoid a death trap at the start of the series but is now dumb enough to fall for every s*upid ploy made by her friends definitely not friends. <<less

I thought this would have a different way to solve it. I'm wrong

The premise is interesting: two possible Saints were summoned. The problem is that it quickly devolves into the usual "fake Saint usurps real Saint, gets in trouble for it, real Saint ends up with some prince"

The early chapters have the heroine exerting brain power to do something, but after that the story devolves into a generic "dense commoner learns how to be a noble for her doting prince" and she stopped exerting brain power

It's OK to spend time... more>> on, but not much else <<less

This story was actually not bad and the premise was quite interesting. The characters also weren't that boring. MC was a bit timid but she didn't back out in front of the challenge. ML wasn't a cold and indifferent prince but a charming, a bit flirty, and a gentle man. And Father Austin successfully livened up the story with his hilarious actions.

The flow of the story was also quite smooth, starting from MC's banishment, her efforts to be recognized as a famous healer so she could go to Farglow Kingdom,... more>> her encounter with ML and her life after that as his wife, and lastly, her showdown with Hime.

But, idk, I felt that the ending seemed unfinished?

Spoiler

We didn't get to see the ending of ML and the queen's feud considering the queen tried to kill him multiple times. We also didn't get to know Hime's POV after she was exiled and forced to marry Loire. Her facade was also never teared down so many people still worshipped her till the end.

And worst of all, there's not much lovey dovey moments between MC and ML after they confirmed their feelings (not even a real kiss).

A cute romance story with a basic but interesting enough plot, a good translator, common tropes.

The characters are generally all likable, the FL is extremely oblivious (both actually and on purpose. Like, she doesn't understand that ML's trying to thirst-trap her by showing off his abs all the time, but she does eventually understand that he's interested in her, but chooses to ignore it because she's not sure how genuine he is. Stuff like that.) but otherwise cool.

Even though she's oblivious to the reasons behind some actions and dialogue I... more>> like that she always sees the ML for who he is - a tricky, charming bastard. I also like that she gains a protective father figure.

There are hints that the ML is kind of yandere.

It's an enjoyable read, I just wish we had gotten more fluff of the main couple after they confirmed their relationship. Hoping that the author will write some more extras 😔. <<less

Love the story! It might seem a bit generic, the plot certainly isn't anything new (in fact, it shares elements of several other webnovels from this genre) but, I don't think it should be held against the story. The writing is clear, Whimsical Star-gazers did an amazing job translating, and most of all the main characters are endearing. The female lead doesn't act like a Saint or a pure person, she holds grudges, is skeptical of others and has anxieties about the role she doesn't really want and has been... more>> forced into. Which (in my opinion) adds believable drama between her and the male lead. The male lead's interactions with the female lead are endearing and funny, and the priest is a great audience insert character.

It's nothing new to the genre, but it is a fun read, especially if your not looking for anything too heavy. <<less
