Interesting premise at first but the quality of the story declined over time.

Some things I that irked me the most :

Spoiler

Story Progression

At first, he quickly begins his revenge in the Tutorial by destroying one of his target's plans. This really caught my attention since the story isn't dragged out before reaching the start of the revenge plan. The problem was that to complete his revenge, it took too long. Why is that the case? Well it's because his goal was to kill those who indirectly of directly killed his brother, which encompassed nearly the entire Tower. And with so many people to take revenge against, it naturally needs to take a long time. Which is the problem since the author decides to explain nearly every fight and doesn't bother skipping the more irrelevant ones. In addition, even after nearly completing his revenge, he finds out the most important target has ascended to godhood... which means it's going to take a while before he even faces her. Honestly, it took way too long than it should have.

Spoiler

Game System

Like many other fantasy novels, a Game System is used which includes stats, skills, storage, etc. But as the story progresses, the majority of the system fades into obscurity leaving skills the most used aspect of the Game System. And even then, the skills just make things a more stressful read. With every skill learned, 4 or so chapters are dedicated to explain how the skill is formed and how it can be utilized. Basically, the chapters that are dedicated to skill creation are your typical wuxia novels where the protagonist ascends to the Great Heaven Defying Jade Dragon of the Dao Realm or some gibberish like that. That's how unnecessary those chapters are and can be shortened down to 1 chapter. On top of this, the naming conventions are horrible.

Spoiler

Manipulation

It's understandable that the protagonist uses manipulation to take revenge against the large clans. After all, there are many opponents while the protagonist only has a small force with little influence. But what isn't acceptable is how he manipulates the gods/demons. While manipulating the large clans, he's a mastermind hiding in the shadows watching his schemes create chaos. But with the gods/demons, he's like an adult who is offering candy to children. Compared to manipulating the large clans, manipulating the gods is just a piece of cake. Mind you, these gods/demons are omniscient as they look down from the 98th floor as well as having long lifespans. With these two combined, you would expect them to be harder to manipulate compared to the large clans. But unlike what one would expect, that is not the case as the protagonist just so happens to have an item that makes all the gods/demons want to suck his toes and clean his foot fungus immediately just to obtain a small yet useless part of it.

[collapse]

I would recommend reading the beginning and maybe a part of the middle but nothing beyond that. Leveling with the Gods was much more enjoyable with a similar premise without revenge but most of the chapters are untranslated. <<less

Actually very interesting read... If you are bored of routine wuxia novels, you can give it a try.

Starts same as dungeon novels, but grows into a powerful story. Interesting world building and every character has a story...

Some will like it, some don't... But give it a try before rejecting

It's both great and horrible novel. I had no complaints for the plot and characters. It's written very well. But aside from that concept and translations had quite a problem.

Firstly, it's not much but I kinda hate the names of the skills/items most of them are just so lame and s*upid, it's a turn off for the novel. It's probably from chunni translators inventing/changing the names of those things.

There's also so many korean words chiness words thay wasn't explain at all, even if you try searching for them on the... more>> net, there's nothing coming out. You might as well learn those languages since translators are lazy to give explanations for the words they didn't translate. Like for example there were words like bianbyeokdokbiblahblahblah f*ck what the f*ck does that even mean?! Jesus.

And also the power system is very unsatisfying. MC receives lots of power-ups that he didn't deserved. There's so much skills and items, some are already forgotten. Most powers were borrowed from Gods, MC keep saying he worked hard this he worked hard that but I can seriously see how lucky and so much plot armor being given to him. There are parts where I can see the hardwork of the MC at early chapters, I enjoyed how he's actually using his brain but past 200-300 chapters those hardwork was turn to garbage, he keeps receiving powers and favors from gods. Among his stats and skills only 1% is from his own hardwork and 99% is not his own power. The author didn't even dare to show Status Window of the MC to the readers anymore because even the author is lost and doesn't know the skills and items he gave to the MC. The Stats window and game elements is basically a disaster.

World building is bad. It's also not detailed enough. It feels so rushed, it lacks details and quite hard to picture the scenes in your head, I don't know why the author is rushing this story.

Other than these annoying things.. The main plot is still great, the schemes is very good, some drama here and there made me cry a bit and also the badass moments is chill, and character growth is fine too, from Bad to Good MC. Although it's a bit off-putting to see MC massacre people then the next chapter he's acting like some family guy.

Great start but it's sad that it plummeted in the middle since the power concept become garbage I just find myself skipping the action scenes because I don't even understand what the f*ck is happening because skills he's using I don't even know anymore it's just confusing and chore to read, the author doesn't know that there are parts where he should skip when it's not even interesting. The plot is great so I want to know more I'm curious of what will happen next but I don't think it's enough to keep the novel running with just that.

At one point I was comparing it to one of the best KR novel here— SCOG but SLR becomes worst and worst as I read on, so much plot holes, unexplained skills, rushed explanations. The whole novel is tormenting to read. I planned to drop this so I read as much spoiler as I could at 350+ chaps and I don't think it's worth wasting more time for me. My end conclusion is that this is some f*cked up family drama of the gods lol. Definitely overrated but still doesn't deserve the 1 star reviews. It's at most 3/5. <<less

Let me just say that the author is really a creative writer with tons of imaginations. This webnovel is so weird from the middle of the story as it goes everywhere from the very first objective. It can be fun if you can close your eyes for every inconsistencies that happened here though I'm pretty sure its gonna be hard for some people.

Great idea, to be honest. But author could really use some time to polish it further/create better details instead of just rushing everything until there's so many inconsistencies.... more>> I'm pretty sure even the author himself/herself forget some of the powers the MC gained cause there's so many.... and there's really no reason to use stats system if author was just going to use it for like... 5 times? in the entire 862 chapters. <<less

I want to tell people to read this, because despite all the (accurate, but sometimes overblown) negative reviews about plot inconsistencies or power level adjustments, this novel is still a really great read. The reason being, for me at least, that it never once stops engaging the reader and pulling you in to read more. The transitions between arcs are well plotted out and, despite the novel being about progressing through a tower from floor 1 to 100, you're never left with long periods of poorly used downtime between each... more>> arc since there are usually 2-3 arcs prepared to start at seemingly any moment. Sometimes you're even having to wait 50-100 chapters before previously mentioned conflicts are brought up again.

If I had make and original complaint, the author does frequently (especially in the later half of the novel) state that the MC has already prepared for ___ situation retroactively. For example, moments where a side character pops out of no-where to save the day and says something like "thank god MC-hyung told me to prepare for this moment a week ago!" However, these moments too much since they are mainly used to prevent breaks in the action, and none come as a surprise as they are all things that the author states the MC plans to do earlier on, we just rarely get to see the MC actually DO it before his plans come into play.

I'm only just now realizing how much I could keep talking about the specifics... but overall, while it's not perfect, it's a lot of fun and hard to put down since the author's focus always seems to be on the pacing of the action. Well worth the time it takes to read.

OH, and other than for 3 chapters, the MC's romance basically doesn't exist. Just FYI <<less

The translation is great. Definitely one of the better translated webnovels out there. Other then that it's a fairly mundane webnovel. There's a ton of filler and needless details that don't need to be repeated, yet they are repeated constantly. It's fairly painful to read through. Like there are webnovels out there that just hook you instantly whether it's due to the characters, the plot, world building or how well it's written. This one just doesn't do any one thing well enough to get you hooked. The characters are so... more>> unappealing and boring, that it's hard to really get invested in them, especially the MC. The author has a bad habit of not explaining the world until it's required to progress the plot. A lot of important plot points are rushed and have no buildup that it takes away the anticipation readers would build. Seems like all the major arcs aren't planned out and just come out of no where.

TLDR Don't read it unless you really like game element webnovels and can suffer through lazy plots, world building and characters. <<less

ITS GREAT

No but the people saying this as "copied" and comparing to various other novels, ITS A GENRE CHILE there are thousands of same setting as this novel. Like The world after the wall, tower of God, SSS class su*cide hunter, MC hides his strength etc. I can accept all criticism towards writing and story building since that depends on different perspective one reads. But copying is just not it.

World building wise for me was great. Not fast paced but yeah plot Armor for him was thicc lol. Legendry pet,... more>> not one but 2, op shadows, op teacher, op FL possibly, op friends, and op himself n BG too.

But overall if u enjoy reading op MC with a back story and tower setting this is to go for. <<less

Lmao people blasting this novel should just stick to Shakespeare, it's a really great novel, superb world building and decent stuff to keep you hooked. Loved it and will recommend it to all. The protagonist is kinda bland near the end (too op) but hey he had his weak moments let him have his glory near the end.

This is an action korean novel that I still keep reading because of the many conflicts and crazy plots. I've read several other Korean novels, such as Solo Leveling and Nano Machine, but I didn't finish it because I was quite "bored" with the plot at the end of the novel. However, SLR has a story with a very wide world setting and many creatures in it are diverse, so it makes this story very interesting when an event occurs, especially the events that Yeon Woo experienced are getting higher... more>> and higher, so it's very fun when reading this story and watch yeon woo grow and carry all creatures under his feet. BTW, I really like Yeon Woo's character! He was never satisfied with the state he was in so his strength never stopped and was always growing. He cares deeply about his family, friends, and those who are important to him, even though he is very cunning with his enemies, he has a reason why he does it all. Ah, I really want to continue reading Yeon Woo's journey to the end. ≪3 <<less

I have been reading this religiously and waiting for updates every day (because I'm poor, lol). This is my most favorite LN so far since I discovered it. I am just enamored with the plot and its twists and turns and also the characters. I love how I get anxious, laugh, and cry at the same time because of one novel, and it just takes my expectations to a higher level. The development and the way it's written is beautiful. It has a very good start for a fantasy novel. With element like climbing a tower, it reminds me of "Tower of God". However as the story goes, MC only grows stronger and hardly ever encounters really really bad situation. Mishmash of myths and legends are interesting at first but somehow gets pretty predictable as story somewhat follows what actually happened in those mythologies and legends, instead of borrowing ideas from it and giving more twists/changing some things about it. It gets somehow boring when you reach chapter 400+

I'm still... more>> giving a high rating as it really made me read it for hours straight because it was just that interesting <<less

Anyone saying this is a casual novel based of other novels are those who dropped it in it's starting days just like those who don't like One Piece cuz it's "LONG". It's not by a lightyear shot a casual novel, it's a masterpiece. Everything is revealed in the later chapters, as to why the dungeon (TOWER) exist (which is pretty significant, very much so), how his little brother who isn't on the top of the hall of fame but still knows every thing (uh that's a great mystery), it has... more>> gods and demons from every mythology playing a very important role, his revenge plot, his history that isn't know even by him, the side characters. It's the best sandwich you can have but you just have to make it through the crust, and then voila, you'll enjoy a whole new delicacy.

Spoiler

For instance, there's 72 demons of Soloman, Olympus, Asgard, Niflheim, Devas, Chan Sect, etc. His power of death isn't something he just stumbled upon coincidently but something that was destined to happen, why his brother got into the Tower and was gived OP abilities and skills was also something that was predestined and due to their ancestors. Everything is connected, and diverse.

[collapse]

So don't fall off the ride right at the start and progress. It's great. <<less

Eh, It's a good one. I would give this a 7.5/10. Rounding it up to 4 stars.
Anyways, I see this one getting a lot of hate. The "tons of plot holes" people mention are usually trivialities mentioned a single time or something that's not really a plot hole but actually a major mystery of the novel.
The truth about Heaven Wing's success/defeat, the mystery of the pocket watch, what happened in Africa, etc.
The author never forgot about those things.

In other news you have plot holes that aren't plot holes and most people simply seem to skim through the novel.
But I can't fault them too much. Because the writing feels so messy at times.

There's a lack of cohesive worldbuilding (no power system to tell you whose stronger or weaker) (no magic system).
And there's way too many f***ing powers. Instead of making an interesting ability and exploring the possibilities of each ability, the MC just stacks everything together at once, and gets so many cheat abilities like a flood.
Most fights have no tension to them because the MC literally has too many trump cards, to the point you can't even count them or describe them in a single page. It's ridiculous.

Initially, first 100 chapters or so, the side characters feel one-dimensional or simple. But the author improves on this at around the 200-300 chapters mark. Side characters are more fleshed out, they get motivations and everyone has their own goals as well as character development. Which is nice.
At times, the novel is pretty wholesome when the cold-blooded MC opens his heart to others.
Overall, this novel is objectively not that good, but I enjoyed it a lot after turning my brain off at the constant powerups and simply enjoying the stakes at hand rather than the battles themselves.

so uhh seeing how alot of people are talking about how the pocketwatch got sent to him
Spoiler

it is explained in later chapters that there was an item that allows you to exit the tower into any dimension or to the dimension your from and how one of the friends that his brother had, apparently used this item not to return to his world, but to earth to send the pocketwatch over to MC

[collapse]
and alot of plot holes everyone is talking about is explained in later chapters, yes we know that the power balance is kinda off, but you never know, that person might have been carried to those higher floors, but overall im giving it a 4, because no matter how good it is there are still some parts where its either confusing, has a plot hole, or the power balancing is just broken

This was great in the beginning, a good balance of manipulative character, growing friendships, and power ups for the MC.

Later, the manipulation part seems to be toned down, and that's a big disservice to an otherwise great story.

Extremely good webnovel with good pacing and characters. Protag is not a d*ck nor a blithering idiot but instead is a calculative guy who doesn't make you think "why didn't he do that" every chapter. One of the better Korean novels and does not contain many character tropes, along with original (somewhat) worldbuilding and premises. The character development of the protag is refreshing and there is always something not fully explained, which is very satisfyingly resolved sooner rather than later. The constant manipulation is also quite fun to watch.

Very good. Has its omg moments with very good character growth, but has its moments that make you want to watch eye bleach youtube videos to make you feel better from all the sad. Especially in the mid to new 270-310 range there is a lot of feels bad moments for all of the main cast. The ways the story sticks a knife in you and twists it makes it even better to show just how good it is to you. The characters change a lot throughout the story, mainly... more>> the MC and a few of the villains and allies. The training isn't bad either, as it interests you with new abilities to test. The plot could use some work, like with the rules of the tower and tutorial, but otherwise, it works well for a revenge novel turned into a self-finding novel. Worth the read for the manhwa as well. <<less

I've seen all these bad reviews and all, and honestly? I quite agree with some of them. But if you just ignore all of those things, including the contradictions, mistakes and nonsensical things, thid novel is a pretty good read, fairly interesting in the plot, specifically the 98th floor, and something to look forward to everyday with its daily updates.

Read it a couple of years ago, one of the best novels I ever found. The ending was kind of unsatisfactory as the author could have written a little bit more chapters to explain a couple of details about MC's situation.

I mean MC was finally going to marry the FL after eons.. No countless years it took him to complete his exuvanation and start transcending (for those who know what exuvanation and transcendence means; no, it's not because MC's weak but rather because he's too strong that it takes so much time) and then he had to go on another ride to actualize his ambitions (idea of happiness)

[collapse]

Well overall the part one that the author has written is great, and I mean really really great.

I have been waiting for the author to start serializing the part two which he was gonna start in Nov.23. But, I haven't seen it anywhere; not even the raws in Korean.

If there is anyone who has any news about it do let everyone who is waiting like me know.

I think the rating of the novel is a little low as compared to what it deserves. Well, its everyone's own choice so I can't say much, but for those who haven't read even half of it you shouldn't judge it until you see the true big; no humongous, picture that the author is trying to portray. <<less
