I don't know how to rate this novel, up to 70 chapters more or less, I liked it much and it was a solid 4 stars rating. Then the author messed things up with the final chapters. I don't agree with the title "Scum Man Cannot Redeem Himself", the ex-husband certainly acted unfairly to the MC but he redeems himself so much in the end. He realizes how much important the MC was to him when she left him, starting to reconsider his marriage and regretting. I felt for him... more>> and was sorry for him.

The MC isn't perfect, she is brash, stubborn and jealous, she has the courage to give up and exit with pride from a painful marriage. She is also very determined and self-dependent in creating a small business with the help of another man, a local businessman. Their interactions are initially funny and later very sweet.

Then, I don't know what happened in the author's mind, maybe she wanted to be original in subverting the reader's expectations creating this bitter ending which will probably leave you as unsatisfied as I am.

I expected an happy ending for the MC and the businessman, they are such a great couple. Instead, the ex-husband saves the MC's life from a fire which leads almost to his death, with serious burns all over his body. The MC decides to remain by his side out of responsibility and loyalty, not love. The end.

I wasn't opposed to the idea of the MC and ex-husband going back together because, as I said, he honestly repents and wants another chance, but this is definitely not the way I wanted; him disabled and without some additional chapters showing us how they grow in love again after this suffering.


To make it worse, it seemed that in the last chapter the MC kinda of gives up her life (by meeting a fairy/god who appears out of nowhere) to another almost dead woman so that this woman can marry the second lead. And I am like: what is this thing? What I am reading? I am not totally sure because I read the raws and I could be wrong. But if I understood correctly, what kind of non-sense plot twist is it?

The FL is a naive fool who divorces her husband and sets out into the world with no concrete plan. The only reason she survives is because she's the female lead.

Anyways.

This novel was frustrating to read because it is initially about a woman who ends in a disastrous marriage and is smart enough to realize that she cannot force it and so ends it.

... more>> However, the author keeps trying to 'redeem' her shitty ex-husband who REFUSES to acknowledge the divorce despite the fact that he personally signed the paper.

He tries to drag her back with force, uses her mother to bend her to his will, ignore all her boundaries and even sexually assaults her.

By s*xual assualt, I mean he forces a kiss on her right after she says she's going to accept the SL's proposal (and she fulfills that promise)

Despite how scummy he was, I got the feeling that the author was trying to make you pity him. For what? For being an a**hole? For try to paddle two boats?

And in the end, the FL gets together with this steaming pile of shit. I don't understand. After suffering such a terrible marriage for years, she gets back with him because....? There's literally no real reason except that the author says it must be so.

Novels like this make me want to bash my head against a wall. <<less

I read this story in MTL and I really do not know what to do of it.

I love it and I hate it. I cannot say why I hate it without spoiling. So I will state why I love it! The people who believe the FL has been been acting willfully and have given a bad mark based on that are very much in the wrong. The story is MUCH, MUCH more complicated than that. In fact, when the FL spouts all her thoughts about how she is at fault... more>> for everything, it is rather more her finally giving up than her being at fault for anything.

What I deeply love about the FL is that she fought hard for what she wanted, and, as the story develops, you realize that the world, and the people who rejected her the most, made her believe that she was entitled to what she wanted. That, actually, she should have gotten it. She was tricked into believing she had a chance. When she never did. And when she finally realized it, she did not get stubborn about it. She just gave up, moved on and did her best to realize other dreams of hers.

In that optic, she is actually very modern, maybe a little bit too modern, even. This idea that she would and could realize something by and of herself was not exactly ingrained in women of that time. And she worked so hard for it. For her, even making a simple living out of her own means would have been a success.

As the story goes on and one of the two MLs starts digging through his and her past for the first time, you realize that what we believe were her actions and what she willingly took the blame for might not have been her actions.

And finally, the ending. Some people complain about it. I do too, however I also accept it as being maybe the most realistic ending I have seen in my life. This is Ancient China, not Unicorn Socialist Federal Republic where everyone has free healthcare, free education and stable jobs, people. Men were inherently at an advantage, a huge advantage, in Ancient China. Women had maybe ONE chance in their lives, men had millions and millions of chances as per the extra piece of flesh between their legs. Thus, though the ending made me cry, remembering how hard the FL tried to just LIVE the way she wanted, it also made me nod my head and say this is about right.

A definite 5/5 but not for those who want an uncomplicated, fun love story. This stuff will bite you in the bum by the last 20 or so chapters. <<less

C4 So far so good. Not going to be blaming anyone for the divorce bec. The female lead seduced the ML in marrying her but sadly the ML was disgusted by her actions. Yup, that's reality everyone, there's no easy love. I want to see how the romance will bloom in this novel.

I love this kind of novel where second chances are given. It's more realistic amd surely the build up will be more worthy to read.

waste of time to be honest. So, usually second male leads can spice things up and raise the stakes a bit, BUT I feel the author simply made the second male lead too good and ruined the ending

I was originally going to say "screw the useless and tr*shy male lead" but in some senses it wasn't entirely his fault especially considering he was being thoroughly deceived and he put in effort in order to redeem himself. I still think he's a subpar male lead but taking it from his perspective... more>> I can at least somewhat sympathize with him. I feel that second male lead should have gotten with the MC regardless of her lack of deep feelings

at the end of the day, the MC doesn't even LOVE the ML anymore she just stayed with him because the author wanted to make the ML pitiful and burn his face off. So the MC is stuck with her ex because she feels guilty.

The story really isn't a happy ending if you think about it. Authors, you're ALLOWED to change your mind on the ML. If you have to use a ridiculous plot device/shifty logic to justify the tr*sh ML getting together with the MC after you just made a glorious second male lead spare these poor readers and just let the MC get together with the second male lead.

As for the MC, I feel its kinda unrealistic how she's attracting men like flies and keeps all of them in the dust. I like her, she has the typical "wild but defenseless bunny protag" but honestly, she should have ended up dead in a bamboo basket/or under a rope. She has NO common sense when it comes to dealing with men.

She encountered a gangster and nearly got r*ped (which turned into a weird useless plot twist later) She drank with the flower boss and got felt up for a bit. Not only that she went to drink with him AGAIN and he stayed the night in her room. Constantly hung out with him alone. Nearly got r*ped by the villaness/second female lead Shuangshuang and her schemes. Literally accidentally stole her friend's man by getting kissed by him after depositing herself into his lap.

The author really shouldn't write ancient novels if they don't want to apply to ancient standards and customs unless it's convenient to them. They sprinkle in random tidbits of factual history and just completely ignore it when the MC needs to butter up her secondary ML or needs another plot device to prove the female villainess was wronging her

Regardless of whether or not she did anything with men, the fact she left the house ALONE for months on end would make her "tainted" and the ML would be disgraced for letting her be not only seen with men but staying outside of his household. His parents would NEVER allow him to take her back. The concubine issue was also done pretty unrealistically because how can any major households have their son's family bare so few children without worry? They were married for so long and she didn't even have one child. No matter the reason, she'd be blamed.

Irl NO ONE would think the MC was in the right and even if they were "divorced" if her husband didn't report it to the officials and have it officialized she had no right to do whatever she wanted and her actions would be seen as adultery and she was liable to be killed for her actions.

MC would be seen as a promiscuous women in ancient times none of her actions would be tolerated. It <<less

To be honest.. After fast read whole chapter in half a day, my conclution is, that this story is not to my taste (so im kinda feel to drop it now. Dont wanna to read anymore). I hate FL who act like this. I mean, look at hear bearing. She always act willfull like she dont care of anything. She is really an ignorant naive little girl. Many people advise her but she just brush it off. Not graceful at all.
So im kinda understand why she suffer a set back. She is not clever enough. This whole flash back story up till this chapter only serve as a proof that she really just an ignorant fool.

Well, it just my own opinion due to different taste.
I dont hate the author nor the translation. Thank you for your good work, again this is just me speaking nonsense, so please dont be offended.

I don't really know what to say about this. I'm so confused with the ending. I wish I had taken heed to the other reviews and didn't read it because I'm just left unsatisfied and confused lol.

If there's anything to point out. I like the MC. True she has some faults but her determination and firm decisions, also to not regret of every actions in her life is what makes her survive in this historical era.

There is some drama going on for instance her former husband. I find the drama interesting but also some drama seem rather sad. This only happens on later in the story.

Still it'll be along while for the translator to get there seeing how he/she cuts the chapter.

This story does give me an impression.

Finished the novel with MTL and I can say, I enjoy the novel but confused with the ending. However, I really like the FL. Need to wait until it translated properly so I can understand the ending.

Dazed and confused. That’s the best way I can describe this story. What starts as what would likely be an interesting plot becomes stale quickly. Too much telling. Much too much telling — to the point where I was left confused about what was actually going on at certain points.

2 stars.

But

This is the first time to me to give review, usually I want to make review to but to lazy to registered, about this novel is, the novel is but, it make you frusted, because Yo good, the story' is more realistis than Alot of othter novel. If you read it maybe really really not sactisfied. I not really sure the ending of the FL and the her ex husband I really hope tha they can life happy ever after with alot of baby of course, because I... more>> feel Pity of him.
