Possessing memories of being born, raised and died in a country called Japan… the young boy Hercule was born in the imperial household of a declining empire.

This empire that once was a super power that reigned over the world… is now a country nearing it’s end. The public finances are in bankruptcy, the military strength declined to the point that barbarians are able to wreck havoc in their territories and the neighboring countries squeezed the Empire for tribute payments every year.

And the young Hercule is forced to take over this empire!

“Eeh!? I can’t run away!?”

“You can’t.”

Thus, the 12 years old Hercule ascends to the throne.

Using the knowledge from his previous life, Hercule struggles to rebuild the empire… reforming the tax system, revolutionizing the industry, reorganizing the public finances, rebuilding the administration and reforming the military system.

This will later be known as the story of the young emperor who restored the Lemurian empire, which would later carve it’s name in history as the great monarch of the three continents, the “Divine Light Emperor” Hercule the First.

The poor man's Kingdom Reform Chronicles. Same idea, paper thin execution. Most of the chapters so far are about worshipping the child prodigy MC, while the actual reformations are implemented in a scant few paragraphs. It's almost laughable how half-assed this is.

This story can be simplified with "What if Justinian I, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire an Elf and have a longer lifespan than a human? Can he reconquest and capture then build the Nova Romanum like in the past or not?"

If you want to read earth history with some kingdom/empire-building and fantasy race in it, then I suggest you read this one. But beware sometimes later the story can really get annoying and you'll be like "wtf dude? Are you s*upid or twat?" just shrug it off then shut... more>> down your brain and that's why I only give this novel 3 stars + 1 for my favorite genre (kingdom building)

oh, and idk if this makes you all get a bitter taste when reading, basically MC subordinate or his godfather got the worst story, I mean really worst even I feel bad for him when reading it.

Edit: I forgot this novel should have Netori tag. (I mean MC have s*x with enemy fiancee in front of him, damn bro I laughed when reading it.) <<less

Very Interesting. I like it personally as the kingdom building doesn't focus too much on so many wars at the first few chapters. The character interactions give the feeling of being light and having a good subtance.

The novel is extremely enjoyable.

I love how the MC only comes out with the ideas and asks the experts in their fields to try and implement them or researching ways to produce them instead of him suddenly turning an expert in every field and teaching blacksmiths or crafters of new inventions from modern time that he mostly had a passing knowledge of.

Personality wise the MC is very likable so far as well.

I have to get this out of the way first.

This isn't really an isekai!

An isekai is when a person of our values and knowledge gets transmigrated or otherwise reborn into another world. In this story, the person's soul gets sent to another world and destroyed by the arrogant and bullish MC of the fantasy world. In their words, the weak soul, was overwritten by the protagonist, but he keeps the memories.

He gets a large amount of knowledge. Doesn't inherit any of the values. He's basically just a slightly more relatable... more>> fantasy character with second-hand knowledge of modern times. But yeah man... dude actively promotes s*avery to get more money for his country. His values are a stark difference from actual isekaid humans like the MC of How a Realist Rebuilt the Kingdom.

===

Now with that out of the way, I have to make another qualifier.
I like Kingdom building stories. I also like assertive girls, and the reason I checked this manga out was the Reverse r*pe, Genius Protag, and Hard-working protag tags.

If you are like me. Just leave now.

I'll start with the le*d element.
Usually the Reverse r*pe tag means you'll get assertive heroines. Take Against The Gods for instance. It has the tag. Most of the girls are proactive badasses. Protagonist is amazing but he doesn't fully overshadow them (and this is in a xianxia btw.) Same with Modern Weapons in Another World... so on and so forth. It's usually a good indicator at heroine personalities and s*xual predilection if you want le*ds.
The exact opposite is true in this story. The girls are fully and completely passive.
The protagonist is an outright sadist, and the girl that attacks him is reversed and dominated in the same scene which she obviously likes.

The protagonist is pe*verted, and lecherous. He makes the girls in his mansion dress in miniskirts. He makes his childhood friend wear one, and then asks her to pick up something from a high shelf all while basking in the humiliation she has.

Now regarding the main story.
It's kind of all over the place. The protagonist is introduced as a guy that would do anything to run away from his responsibilities for freedom. He has dreams of exploring the world. That is completely abandoned in literally 1 chapter and all of his personal desires ignored for Kingdom Building which he takes on proactively.

The Kingdom Building honestly just feels like a rehash of How A Realist Rebuilt A Kingdom. It references Machiavelli in the exact same circumstance even. Unlike that one though, which took its time to build the inner circle and actually rebuild the Kingdom, I'm in Volume 1, and the Kingdom rebuilding is already almost done. Facing problems or unexpected issues? Not really a thing. It's not bad though. There are some interesting unique ideas here, and the world is very well realized.
What I really like is how the Fantasy world's history is slowly drip-fed to you, and it's surprisingly brutal, yet realistic.

The side characters are done quite terribly. The side characters aren't very memorable in my eyes. Major events have happened and none of them have really contributed. You'll remember the MC and the Waifu, but that's really it. MC's relationship with others is also sterile. I don't personally like him as a person so I can't get invested in his relationships with other people. He's got some good relationships that give me some hope for the side characters involvement in the story, but the author sucks his d*ck so hard, I literally feel weird having any expectation for other characters at all.

Definitely not moving past Volume 1. <<less

IT'S REVIEEEEWWWWW TIMMEEEEEEE!!!!

Seeing as only a few chapters have been released, I'm not going to rate it. However, my tentative rating is: 4 stars.

The Good:

... more>> The translator is generally grammatically correct.

The story has it's comedic moments

The Bad:

MC has a penchant for getting dragged along with the flow, as long as his childhood friend eggs him on

Quite a bit of timeskipping

Lack of worldview so far, we only know a bit about the current country, and a neighboring enemy country

Some faulty logic going on at times, but nothing gamebreaking yet

Childhood female friend already has MC henpecked

The Ugly:

MC is reincarnated, but lacks the maturity that comes with it (story says at one point he has the maturity of a 12 year old)

The MC is described as being in a dying country, but they are apparently still well off

The MC is a king, and only has all of 3 adults and 1 childhood friend supervising them, when they are like a 12 year old king.

Welp, let's see where this ride goes from here. I'll update this as the story progresses. <<less

A decent kingdom building/army management story. With the story based on real world history, the story easily sets up its world building, and since we and the author already know where this story is going to end up, we don't need to waste time setting up any meaningless obstacles for the MC we know he would overcome anyway. The thing I appreciate most about this story is its personality. Halfway through volume 2, we get introduced to a character who seems like they'd be important. That character disappears after a... more>> few chapters though and doesn't show up again until a few chapters into volume 3. The story is self aware about this though, following up with dialog like, "Wow, it sure does feel like it's been a long time." "What a coincidence, I was thinking the same thing even though I eat lunch with you guys every day."

What I appreciate most with this historical telling though is that the MC isn't going at the world with a modern Japanese mindset. Religion plays an important part in this time period, and he isn't just disregarding it or forcing religious tolerance because it doesn't make sense to him. He isn't obsessed with recreating Japanese culture or food and introducing the "miracle of rice" to the nation, thus fixing all the country's food problems. The MC actually inhabits the world he lives in and isn't just trying to change the world to more closely resemble a modern Japan. <<less

This novel is by the same author as Otherworld Nation Founding Chronicles and as such it's very much in the same vein as the author has kept a similar premise, it's worth a read if you enjoy nation building novels just do not expect anything spectacular. (Think Release That Witch, just with a less knowledgeable and experienced author whom is still gaining experience, whilst it is certainly worth a read, just try not to gauge it too deeply.)

Others have said what can be said about this LN already, I just want to give my 2 cents.
    • It's a worldbuilding LN with mature elements (the MC has s*x, but no h-scenes - I guess there's maybe one but I can't remember if it's graphic s*x or just a bl*wjob) ;
    • The story is heavily influenced by the romam emperor Constantine I, to a T. While this is not a problem in itself, this influence sometimes amount to narrating the exact same events of Constantine's rule but changing some names;
    • Some events seem to be just too convenient (I don't know if something like that happened in Constatine's history tho)
      Spoiler

      In vol 2 a princess of a neighbour enemy kingdom was just taking a stroll in the capital, completely alone, without guards and the MC happens to meet her, figure out who she is and peacefully capturing her to be a future part of his harem

      [collapse]
      and this feels like extreme generic harem LN bulls*it;
    • The MC is stripped of the typical LN herbivore japanese male mentality (thou shall not kill unless it's extremely necessary, thou shall not f*ck absolutely anyone nor do anything pe*verted, thou shall bow politely and behave like a model japanese citizen at all times). Hercule feels a little like a Marty Stu at times, but it's a more enjoyable read than most other LNs.
It's still being translated, it seems like one chapter is released every week. I like kingdom building LNs and LN MCs that have a backbone, so I'll keep reading.

It is light on the kingdom building, army tactics, reforms, character building of the supporting cast, but not to the extent that I would hate it, I would willingly give it a 4 star, but

They had to make the protagonist fall into a s*upid honey trap for whatever reason and not commit with making him do the wrong things for the glory of his nation (split apart a country, sacrifice "allies"). After this, they tried to justify it and make it all alright, but I woulf much rather commit amd... more>> make this him reform mass media or brainwash people, rather than make him a vain prideful lord. <<less
