I absolutely love this novel y'all. It's so refreshing to see a protagonist, not even one who was isekaied from modern times, actually have their entire goals in the world revolve around abolishing s*avery!! The protagonist is such a fun narrator for the story, someone who I can unabashedly cheer for without restraint in his adventures. The way he reacts to reuniting with old friends who have forgotten him is so compelling and warm to me, I don't know how to say it.
More importantly, I just really need to get off my chest how much I despise the antagonist here. Holy shit. I don't know what it is or how the author did it, but the villain in this novel, the fella who our protagonist swapped bodies with, actually pisses me off so bad. Like, buddy's entire purpose in this story is to maintain the status quo of mass s*avery. I'm so mad every time we jump over to this mfers perspective and he's doing anything better that living in utter squalor. The fact that an antagonist can inspire such sincere vitriol in my soul without even having much of a presence on the story (at least as of chapter 100ish, when I'm writing this review) along is worthy of getting five stars.
Man I love a story with an anti-racism moral! Also, I highly recommend checking out this author's other underrated work, Death King Karnak, for more fun and dynamic characters based in empathy and compassion for humanity xoxo
