This is by far the best novel I've read, I still remember wang lin when he climb that mountain, so he can get into heng yue sect, and he met his friends, killed teng something, gets his family killed, and so on...

His life is not the same as generic MC, where MC almost always win against enemy, I would say his life is a traedy, heck I even cried when he was talking to his brother (this happens in recent chapter) about his life, about what could he get if he didn't cultivate up till now, about what is he chasing by cultivate, about how he lost every single f**kin things that matters to him. Er gen is really good at touching our hearts. I can't make a long review cause I'm on my phone rn, but I realllllyyy recommend this novel.

Well, so far, this novel hold #1 position among CN i've read. Er Gen surely put a lot of effort making this.. #2 is MoE/MEN, the third comes to DH..

In early series, there are some clues/parts that seems missing, but who knows, Er Gen actually reveals it after long time passed.. The most interesting point for me is the development is reasonable, cultivation world basic principal doesn't swayed from start till now, the same goes to characters building.. Unlike some other novel..

well, I could say that the only thing that... more>> frustrating is the updates.

At early c500, I rated 3/5, because subjective reviews toward the MC's character, but nah, that was too childish.. People doesn't want to read this because they want to have baby-milking protagonist that always got lucky, overpower, oversh*t and a hero that can always save the day, that can have anything he want.. They can't stand a MC that only want to survive, simple man with simple dream, having desire of vengeance & survive, an everyday man, sometimes lost sometimes win.. Just like in reality.. Rated 5.0 for now.

And, for the romance tag, even it's only a sliver, it's still there.. <<less

Reading this novel is like climbing a tall mountain...

Exhiliarating along the way, Interesting while moving forwards... But like a sh*tty steep cliff going up once the story falls from its plot.

My Cons for Xian Ni:

I hate the fact that the writer rushes some scenarios. There are instances where the author could've added a little more scenes (and it would've been fine). There were a lot of open pages (which were fine being left out) but would've made the story packed and full. (I guess the author is trying not to... more>> stay generic, and is saving some plots as reserves)

Once the story gets generic and uninteresting, it's hard to comeback. I had instances where I would like to drop the novel (I would suggest to find an alternative to switch back and forth once this happens).

It's all about the Treasures. Treasure this, treasure that. Don't they have an alternarive term for their stuffs?... like, STUFF?...

My Pros:

This is the only novel where the MC gets killed AF. I know this may sound messed up, but think about it, but I think this was a smart move by the author. The MC got a chance to start over or recuperate from a weak state. And the story had an oportunity to shift and evolve from one theme to another. This makes the story interesting over and over.

I hope to read books as versatile as this. I thank the author and the translator. <<less

To be honest, I skipped a lot of chapters especially the first few parts as I got bored with it and some of it are really unnecessary for you to understand the flow of the story. I was actually about to give up with this but I didn't know the turning point chapter where I started to get interested but seriously things got a lot of better you just have to be patient. I really love the MC Wang Lin because for me he is kind of different in a... more>> good way from most of the mc's of the novels I read. Especially when it comes to the romance part, as Wang Lin is deeply allergic to 99.9% of the girls in the story. Lol. But this is what makes the story unique for me. This is also one of the few novels that actually made me cry so its not like any other storylines that just focuses on increasing strength, having lots of enemies while still weak then come back for revenge, harems and so much more. So it is a highly recommended novel to anyone who wants something different. <<less

One of the better novels out there. The story is MC focused, the side characters give a proper amount of dialogue and not that kind of trash fill-an-entire-chapter kind of dialogue, the story is unique, the MC has intelligence and somewhat of a likable personality. The only downside is that this is one of those stories that has the MC plainly killing because someone insulted him; It seems like the story will go down the same path as ISSTH with just OP hero and MC killing people who insult him... more>> though. <<less

its alright. My only problem is the author keeps crushing his cultivation and we have togo through the same drivel again. The exception being, he changes it up a little so that MC will get a treasure item or some minor technique to help him along immediate future crisis. At time story gets overly dramatic with some weak attempt at poetry. This is also lightly tied to advance cultivation techniques where you have to understand a domain

they have to understand the Dao of their heart and heavens. So like MC is faced a lot of life and death situations so he's trying to to comprehend that in relation to universal (heaven) laws.

But it comes out as tacky to me. There is no huge philosophical depth to it. Author should probably stick to making sick as armors weapons and anything of that nature. <<less

Basically, this is a dark/tragedy xanxia story so far, where the MC becomes more twisted as the story progresses due to a stream of failures. There is 0 romance, there is 0 humor. I've read some of Er Gen's later works, and they are frankly much better, though this isn't terrible, it is very dry and the MC isn't likable at all, the world building is also really fragmented, there is a great deal of "teleporting" to destinations and poor descriptions of them. I'd give it a solid 3... more>> since it is still well written despite these major flaws. Perhaps it gets better later. <<less

This novel has lots of terms, and it’s like reading a dictionary for cultivation and alchemy. It is slow with all the explaining and description, causing you to lose sight of what is currently happening in the novel, but it does gives you an deep insight of its world and its rules. This novel isn’t for everyone and you have to be very patient to enjoy this novel.

The romance doesn’t start until mid or late 100s (since I lost track) but it’s very subtle, and the way is done is... more>> not exactly what you would expect. Well they start acknowledging it until they meet again in 211 I believe. Honestly, it such a small part of the story that the romance tag can be neglected or remove. <<less

Remove romance tag! This starts as pretty good novel but becomes but dull after MC leaves initial sect. Its still enjoyable but there is rarely any interaction with other people and its mostly monologue about cultivation etc...

This is kind of story that you mostly keep reading because it started pretty good, and after while it became ok.

Basically MC is super loner! And about 1/20 words is "sneer" :D

At the beginning of the novel, I didn't like what and where and how the chapter was developing and going. Then I slowed down reading this chapter but didn't stop. Later one slowly my interest started increasing and I started reading 20 to 30 chapter a day. Now I don't want to finish this fast.. So I am going slow I love this chapter you can call me crazy for not finishing this chapter. HE HE HE

Out of all the xianxia novels being translated right now, this is one of the best. The MC isn't very talented but thanks to his intelligence and a mysterious treasure he manages to become a cultivator. The MC isn't as comically clever as some other Er Gen MC's like Meng Hao (ISSTH) or Bai Xiaochun (AWE) though and the novel is very different from ISSTH or AWE because of that. The story and characters are interesting and nuanced. Overall I would say that Renegade Immortal is a very enjoyable read... more>> and I would highly recommend it. <<less

Extremly good novel, started reading it after finishing ISSTH. Could not stop reading and cought up in about three days. The storytelling is of the charts and it shows you how a common youth transform and becomes the current cultivator he is. After traversing the treacherous path that is cultivation. Love the MP and is by far one of my favourites of all time.

Honestly So far I did read ISSTH, A will eternal, And many other random novels yet this one is just perfection!

for me at least the MC is'nt a *hungry for harem* or *Kings Pride* kinda guy, starting off as a weak average guy with strong will and something that's lacking in most (Brain!) and walking to imortality, the slight romance.. the slight comedy the blend is just nicely balanced!

I think everyone should atleast give it a try, surely the best novel I read so far...

The story starts off slow and dark but trust me it'll all be worth it as you keep on reading.

The plot is so deep!! Like every little thing that happens is crucial, every character the MC meets is crucial, none of that random rumbling OP BS. It's all about building the plot and characters.

You'll love it.

Initially I was not interested in reading this novel due to low review's. Found out reviews can't be trusted as it is.

After finishing I shall seal the heavens, I wanted to read more of Er Gen and I decided upon A Will Eternal. I caught up with the release then came to this novel.

It's a really great novel. Sure it's different and the MC is more ruthless. But that adds to the character and the story is really good.

I have read a lot of xianxia novels filled with cliches and whatnot but this is the first one that truly felt genuine. Renegade immortal doesn't have good or evil or hero or villain, it's like an entire world so meticulously build that you feel like you are not reading the novel you are living it. The protagonist in this world doesn't always win and every action comes with a consequence. All in all a masterpiece.

This novel is pretty refreshing to read since there's not many well written (at least for a web novel) novels where the main character is completely alone without any friends/teachers. Wang Lin doesn't have any connections or treasures, other than one. Although people say this novel is dark, its just because they have only read the happy go lucky novels where everything is handed to the main character and nothing bad ever happens to them.

I came to this novel because I wanted to know more about the "god" wang ling mentioned in ISSTH, and... I was shocked.

The protagonist seems a lot more real to me than a lot of other ones, the way he is gradually becoming a demon even though he was but a child at the start and the way the characters interact between them.

It has clearly marked arcs, so you probably can remember a general outline of the entire story, something I can't do with ISSTH, so you miss a lot... more>> less of details (and there are a lot of them, spicing up the story)

Of course it has cliches but ¿What novel doesn't? <<less

This novel is quite different from many of the others; the story is very dark and continues to be that way, and that's what makes the story stand out from a lot of the others.

The story is also unpredictable at times because of this dark element, which makes the series take turns you wouldn't expect (a welcome change). What I especially like about this story is that there aren't many "stupid" things that happen with the story being so vicious and dark. The story is also slow paced at times,... more>> but that's Er Gen's style, slowly building up to a climax of an arc.

I do sometimes wish that Er Gen didn't make it so tragic, but that's the appeal of the novel, and it makes sense why everything happened.

All in all, it's definitely a novel worth reading. <<less
